Analysts and experts have said that taking control of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium would require "the largest special forces operation in history". The Wall Street Journal quoted US and Israeli security experts in a report, who said that more than 1,000 military personnel would be needed on-site to successfully retrieve all the uranium Iran possesses. When three key Iranian nuclear sites were struck last June, the country reportedly had 440 kilograms of 60 per cent-enriched uranium. Iran is also believed to hold almost 200 kilograms of 20% enriched uranium. Notably, 90%-enriched uranium is needed to build nuclear weapons. Former NATO commander James Stavridis told WSJ that, given the conditions and scenario, it would take "the largest special operations forces in history" to seize all the uranium Iran has. Also Read: Military facilities near Iran's Chabahar Trade Zone hit by US fighter jets: Report
Where is Iran's uranium?
Talking about the location of this uranium, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi recently said that nearly half of the 60% enriched uranium was at the Isfahan nuclear site inside a tunnel complex. The recent suspension of oil-loading operations at the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Port of Fujairah following a drone attack and subsequent fire has sent ripples through an already volatile global energy market. Last year, the port exported an average of more than 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and refined fuels - a staggering 1.7 per cent of daily global demand. Also read: Who is making decisions in war-torn Iran after Ali Khamenei's assassination? The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has arrested 19 Indians for sharing "misleading and fabricated content" amid the ongoing Iran war. They are a part of a group of 35 people who have been detained by the authorities for posting videos on social media. They are separate from the 10 people who were arrested on Saturday. The UAE has been telling people not to share videos of interceptions, attack sites and unverified footage and photos. Such acts are considered a criminal offence and are punishable under the law with imprisonment of at least 1 year and a fine of at least AED 1,00,000. Their arrest was ordered by UAE attorney-general Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi on March 15. Authorities have said that the suspects will face an expedited trial after an investigation found them guilty of circulating manipulated footage and narratives linked to the ongoing Iran-US-Israel war on social media platforms. Also Read: Massive fire near Dubai airport after drone strike, fuel tank hit; flight operations suspended - VIDEO
Social media activity monitored in UAE
Shamsi said digital platforms are being strictly monitored to prevent the spread of fabricated information and artificial content that could trigger public disorder. US Strikes on Iran's primary oil export hub have increased supply risks. The escalation has set the stage for another week of uncertainty in global oil markets. Late last week, President Donald Trump said that US Forces had attacked Iran's strategic Kharg Island, and warned to hit oil facilities if Iran continues to obstruct shipping in the narrow Strait of Hormuz. Since the war started, traffic through Hormuz has nearly come to a standstill. In response, Iran's supreme leader said that the strait will stay closed for enemy ships as long as the war persists.
