If you are looking to book a cab on BluSmart and it shows 'no slots,' it might be because of something bigger than a technical glitch. Hailed as a 'reliable' option for many, the future of BluSmart is under scrutiny following regulatory action against its promoters.
SEBI has initiated action against Gensol Engineering promoters Anmol Singh Jaggi and Punnet Singh Jaggi for multiple violations, including diversion of funds meant for EV procurement to buy a luxurious apartment in Camellias, Gurugram. BluSmart is a related party to the company in question.
The regulatory body has barred the duo from the securities market and from holding any management positions until further notice.

SEBI's notice

The market regulator received a complaint in June 2024 related to the manipulation of share prices and the diversion of funds.
The notice cites a statement made by Ratings agency ICRA, which said, 'certain documents shared by GEL with ICRA, on its debt servicing track record, were apparently falsified, which raises concerns on its corporate governance practices, including its liquidity position.'
Upon inquiry, SEBI revealed that funds availed by Gensol between 2021 and 2024 as loans for procuring EVs, amounting to Rs 978 crore, were partly utilised for buying a luxury property.
A regulatory filing in February 2025 revealed a gap of Rs 262 crore. The notice also revealed that some of the loan amount was transferred to Capbridge, a related entity that paid money to DLF for another apartment purchase.
The company shares have plunged 5 per cent on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Has BluSmart suspended operations?

The related EV-based ride-hailing app has reportedly suspended cab scheduling services in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore. While reports suggest that the app is actually facing a technical issue and will be fixed soon, the timing has led many to voice their concerns over the future of the company.
The company is also reportedly under financial strain. Multiple media reports suggest that the company has delayed salary payments for March. According to an internal email reported by IANS and sent by co-founder Anmol Singh Jaggi, 'Due to current cash flow constraints, there will be a short delay in processing salaries. However, we want to assure you that all dues will be cleared within April itself.'
BluSmart is yet to respond to Wion's queries regarding these allegations.

For emerging powerhouses like India, the ongoing US-China trade war brings a unique opportunity. As global businesses look to diversify supply chains, India stands to gain as a manufacturing and export hub. But this silver lining comes with a cloud. The real fear is that India could become a dumping ground for Chinese goods…exporters in China look to offload excess stock they can’t sell to the US and early signs of that risk are already surfacing.

China, for the first time in more than a decade, convened an unusual Central Conference on Work Relating to Neighbouring Countries on April 9, raising eyebrows as it comes right after Trump began its tariff war.
As US President Donald Trump singled out China from its "mercy list", imposing higher and higher tariffs, Beijing has been making efforts to stabilise its territory and strengthen ties with the neighbours.

How tariffs went from 34% to 245%?

The trade war begins with Trump imposing 34% tariffs on China on its "Liberation Day". Following this, Beijing retaliated and imposed 34% tariffs on the US.
Of course, Trump did not like it, as he slammed China in a Truth Social post, saying, China panicked and they should not have done this. "CHINA PLAYED IT WRONG, THEY PANICKED - THE ONE THING THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO!," the US president said in a post on Truth Social.

The tariff war kept on intensifying as both nations did not back out and kept on imposing higher and higher tariffs. The US then warned China, saying that it will impose a 50% tariff if China doesn't back down.
However, China being brave and unbothered, didn't back down, which led to Trump announcing a whopping 104% tariffs on Beijing. China again retaliated with 84% tariffs on all American goods.
This annoyed Trump, and he imposed 125% tariffs on China while showing compassion to other 75+ nations, which according to him have contacted the US representatives for trade talks. Trump did not stop here, and on Tuesday, the White House announced 245% tariffs on Chinese goods.

'Amicable, secure and prosperous neighbourhood'

Coming to China's new in-making friendship with neighbouring countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping, during the neighbourhood conference, pledged to strengthen China's ties with neighbouring nations by "appropriately" managing differences.
He also noted that China’s relations with neighbouring countries were at a "critical phase” amid global uncertainties.
The ongoing trade war between China and the US has also pushed and made Beijing realise to mend ties with the neighbouring countries, showing it a "sense of urgency".
Despite China's differences with multiple neighbouring countries, including Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam and India, Jinping's statement claimed that ties with neighbouring countries were “at their best in modern times”, while entering “a critical phase of deep linkage between the regional landscape and the world changes”.

How it flipped for India?

During the "rough phase" China is going through, it also flipped towards India. Despite the growing issues between the two nations, China shockingly turned all friendly towards India on April 9.
A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in India said that the two "largest developing" countries should "stand together" to overcome the difficulties brought by the ongoing trade war.
Even after many clashes, now China has emphasised mutual benefits, saying that the China-India economic and trade relationship is based on complimentarity and mutual benefit.
"Facing the U.S. abuse of tariffs, which deprives countries, especially Global South countries, of their right to development, the two largest developing countries should stand together to overcome the difficulties," Spokesperson Yu Jing said earlier this month.
Even though Trump has been imposing higher tariffs on China, and not letting this war take a pause, he also showed openness to strike a deal with China, saying that "the ball is in China's court."

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has taken a strong objection to comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act enacted by the Parliament of India and termed them baseless and motivated while pointing out Islamabad’s own abysmal record on protecting the rights of minorities.
In response to media queries regarding comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Bill, the MEA’s Official Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said, “We strongly reject the motivated and baseless comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act enacted by the Parliament of India. Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on a matter that is internal to India. Pakistan would do better to look at its own abysmal record when it comes to protecting the rights of minorities, instead of preaching to others.”

The rebuttal came days after Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan criticised the changes in India’s Waqf laws and said that the legislation was an infringement on the religious and economic rights of Indian Muslims.
“The passage of this discriminatory legislation is also reflective of the growing majoritarianism in India. There are serious apprehensions that it will contribute to further marginalization of Indian Muslims,” Khan was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Earlier, during the debate in the Indian Parliament, BJP MP Amit Malviya had hailed the legislation aimed at modernising the management and administration of Waqf properties in India, and while providing global comparisons, he pointed out Pakistan governs Waqf properties through multiple provincial laws, including the Sindh Waqf Properties Act (2020) and Punjab Waqf Properties Ordinance (1979).
He also pointed out that Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan do not have women members on the Waqf governance board.

Meanwhile, in yet another provocation, an anti-India march is being organised in Bangladesh by radical Islamists in response to the Waqf Amendment Bill passed in India.
The Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis has announced a march and memorandum submission to the Indian Embassy in Dhaka on April 23. The group’s leader, Maulana Mamunul Haque, accused the “Hindutva BJP government” of killing Muslims across India.
