The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a U-turn on India batter <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/kl-rahul" rel="dofollow">KL Rahul</a>'s potential participation during the upcoming home white-ball series against England.
Rahul had&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/kl-rahul-to-skip-england-series-but-remains-available-for-champions-trophy-2025-bcci-8608133">requested not to be picked</a> for the series but the board has now asked him to play the ODI leg of the series.

The BCCI may want Rahul as the the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter option for the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/2025-champions-trophy" rel="dofollow">2025 Champions Trophy</a>. Hence the need for some match practice. England are coming to India for five T20Is and three ODIs. The T20Is begin on January 22 and Rahul is almost certain to sit out the five-match series.
As for ODIs, the matches are scheduled on February 6, 9 and 12 &nbsp;and a week after Champions Trophy starts - on February 19.
The squad for the England ODIs and the ICC Champions Trophy is more or less expected to be same and hence the board's decision to ask Rahul to play.
The batter also played the role of wicketkeeper in ODI World Cup 2023 for India when the first-choice option Rishabh Pant was out of action for months, having been injured after a major car accident. During the ongoing fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, Knight stated that Root's dropped catch changed the course of the series. While the English cricketer stated that Ben Stokes' underperformance was also a big factor, and Root's catch changed it all.

Having pulled up sore in the morning, the team management decided to hand Padikkal his debut Test cap. He becomes the 314th player to represent India in the red-ball format and was handed his debut cap by Ashwin, who is also playing a landmark contest. Padikkal’s inclusion in the Indian side Test side saw him return to the international fold after nearly three years, having last played in a T20I series against Sri Lanka in July 2021 under Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy.&nbsp;

The 37-year-old became the first-ever outfield player (non-wicket-keeper) to claim 60, or more, catches across all formats when he caught hold of Mark Wood's catch off R Ashwin's bowling. India ended the day's play in a commanding position, trailing England's 218 by 83 runs with nine wickets in hand. Captain Rohit went to stumps unbeaten on 52.&nbsp;

Needing 29 runs to join the elite club before the start of the Test match, Jaiswal reached the feat on the third ball of the 15th over. The youngster needed 16 innings to reach the accolade, a record only bettered by fellow Mumbai batter Vinod Kambli. He bettered the likes of Sunil Gavaskar (21 innings), Cheteshwar Pujara (18) and Mayank Agarwal (19). He, however, did not last long after bringing up his third fifty in the series and was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir.

While Gasvakar did it in 1971 and 1978, the young Indian is all set to break his record. At the time of writing, Jaiswal has 712 runs and needs 63 more runs in the second innings to break the record. He is already a prime candidate to become the Player of the Series having also scored two double tons.
