The incident happened when the family was eating breakfast and pallets dropped from aeroplanes and careened towards the displacement area, the grandfather of the boy, who is also named Sami Ayyad, told CNN.&nbsp;

Several family members tried to take cover inside their improvised tents, however, the falling aid killed the three-year-old on the spot.&nbsp;

Ayyad's aunt and cousin were also wounded on their foot and face respectively.&nbsp;

“I was sitting here with the boy, and the moment I left him…the package fell on him,” Ayyad said. “There was only a second between me and him. I carried him and started running.

“We have no hospitals. I ran like crazy, but the boy died instantly. I couldn’t save him. Blood started coming out of his nose and mouth,” he added.

Several countries have been air-dropping aid into Gaza, including the United States, Britain, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).&nbsp;

Hamas said on Monday that it had accepted a Gaza ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar, and later accused Israel of trying to undermine the truce talks taking place in Cairo by mounting the offensive.&nbsp;

The ground invasion began a day after Israel warned Palestinians in the area to evacuate. More than one million people sought refuge from months of Israeli bombardment in Rafah, and the military's thrust was said to be catastrophic amid a deteriorating humanitarian situation.&nbsp;

People took refuge in Rafah. They were living in tented camps and makeshift shelters. On being ordered by the Israeli side, many are trying to leave. But they have nowhere safe to go.&nbsp;

Rafah was also rocked by heavy bombardments overnight, with the Kuwaiti hospital saying that 23 people were killed. The Najjar hospital said another four people were killed, AFP reported.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Israeli tanks and planes also attacked several areas and houses there overnight. The Gaza health ministry said Israeli strikes across the enclave had killed 54 Palestinians and wounded 96 others in the past 24 hours.

The Israeli military said a limited operation in Rafah was meant to kill fighters and dismantle infrastructure used by Hamas, which governs Gaza.&nbsp;

The White House said that United States President Joe Biden spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (Mar 18) and discussed the situation in Rafah. In the first call between the two leaders since February 15, they talked about the efforts to increase aid to war-ravaged Gaza.&nbsp;

The talks come amid rising jitters between Israel and the US over the escalating tensions in the West Asian region. The West, including the US, often backed Israel's rights to defend itself in the aftermath of Hamas' deadly October 7 attack, but now it has started to criticise Netanyahu's handling of the war.&nbsp;

"President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to discuss the latest developments in Israel and Gaza, including the situation in Rafah and efforts to surge humanitarian assistance to Gaza," the White House said.&nbsp;

According to the Israeli Prime Minister's Office readout,&nbsp;Netanyahu said: "We talked about the latest developments in the war, including Israel’s commitment to achieving all the goals of the war: the elimination of Hamas, the release of all our hostages, and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel – while providing the necessary humanitarian aid that helps achieve these goals."&nbsp;

This comes after US President Joe Biden announced during his State of the Union address&nbsp; that the US military will build a temporary aid port on Gaza's Mediterranean coast to provide humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinian enclave via sea.

General Frank S. Besson left Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia "less than 36 hours after President Biden announced the U.S. would provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza by sea," CENTCOM said in a statement.

The logistics support vessel is "carrying the first equipment to establish a temporary pier to deliver vital humanitarian supplies," it said.

There is no port infrastructure in Gaza. The US plans to use Cyprus initially, which is offering a procedure for screening of cargoes that will include Israeli officials, eliminating the need for security checks in Gaza.

An Israeli official said Tel Aviv "fully supports the deployment of a temporary dock" on Gaza’s coast and the operation would be carried out "with full coordination between the two parties."&nbsp;

Meanwhile, in a continued effort to secure the release of hostages still held captive in Gaza, the Israeli spy chief met with his US counterpart on Saturday (March 9), Tel Aviv said.

"The head of the Mossad, David Barnea, met yesterday (Friday) with the head of the CIA, Bill Burns, as part of the ceaseless efforts to advance another hostage release deal," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement on behalf of the Mossad.

"Contacts and cooperation with the mediators continue all the time in an effort to narrow the gaps and reach agreements," said Mossad.

The statement comes amid mediators scrambling to secure a new ceasefire deal in the Gaza war before Ramadan which could begin as early as Sunday, depending on the lunar calendar.

"At this stage, Hamas is entrenching its positions like someone who is not interested in a deal and is striving to inflame the region during Ramadan at the expense of Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip," it said.

Mossad also stated that Hamas was aiming for unrest in the area to worsen during Ramadan.&nbsp;

A convoy of 20 trucks, carrying humanitarian aid, entered the Gaza Strip from Egypt through the Rafah crossing on Saturday (Oct 21), confirmed the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in a statement.

It stated that the trucks were filled with medicine and food supplies meant for the people of Gaza Strip. "The relief aid convoy that is supposed to enter [Gaza] today includes 20 trucks that carry medicine, medical supplies, and a limited amount of food supplies (canned goods)," said Hamas's media office, in a statement.

The Egyptian state TV, trucks which were seen waiting for days to enter the area of border crossing from the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt entering the gate after the war between Israel and Hamas entered the 15th day.

<h2>Rafah crossing – the only route to Gaza not controlled by Israel</h2>

Gaza Strip has been incessantly bombed by Israel since the massive attack was launched by Hamas on Tel Aviv on October 7.

The terrorist group had entered Israel from the Gaza Strip and killed around 1,400 people, who were mostly civilians on the first day of the attack, according to Israeli officials. The people were killed, mutilated and burnt to death and 200 others were taken hostage.

After the attack, Israel announced a total siege on Gaza, and stopped the supplies of electricity, water, food and fuel, which created chronic shortages in the region.

Rafah is the only route inside Gaza which is not under the control of Israel and through which it was agreed to allow entry of aid from Egypt after a request was made by its top ally the United States.

As per an AFP correspondent, 20 trucks sent by the Egyptian Red Crescent, which had been given the task of delivering aid from different UN agencies, entered through the Egyptian terminal. On the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, 36 empty trailers were seen entering the terminal and moving towards the Egyptian side, where they were to be filled with incoming aid, reported AFP.

Two Red Cross vehicles, two UN vehicles and four ambulances were also seen moving towards the terminal.

Reacting to the entry of 20 aid trucks entering Gaza through Rafah crossing, UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths said that the first truck "must not be the last".

"I am confident that this delivery will be the start of a sustainable effort to provide essential supplies... to the people of Gaza," stated Martin Griffiths, adding, "This first convoy must not be the last.”

Trucks, filled with humanitarian aid, enter Gaza through Rafah crossing

A Russian drone attack hit three industrial warehouses, which are believed to be storing humanitarian aid, in the Ukrainian city of Lviv on Tuesday (September 19), media reports said.&nbsp;The attack resulted in a massive blaze at the warehouse, footage of which is doing the rounds on social media. The shelling has resulted in the killing of a police officer while two civilians on a trolleybus sustained injuries, Reuters reported quoting the head of the city's military administration.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said, "In the morning, a 49-year-old police sergeant was killed by Russian artillery fire in Kherson."&nbsp;

As per emergency services, the attack at the three industrial warehouses took place at about 5 am (0200 GMT) following which the firefighters rushed to contain the blaze.&nbsp;

Giving details on the Lviv attack, the mayor of the city Andriy Sadovyi said the&nbsp;body of a man, who used to work at one of the warehouses tha came under Rusian attack, was found under the debris.

He also specifically pointed out that these warehouses were not holding up any kind of military ammunition but were rather storing windows, household chemicals, and humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, regional govenor Maxim Kozitsky in a post on the Telegram messaging app said, "I want to emphasise that these are ordinary industrial warehouses. Nothing military was stored there."&nbsp;

<h2>Russian drone attacks&nbsp;</h2>

Kozitsky said that out of a total of 18 drone attacks that Russia carried out against Ukraine, seven were directly over the Lviv region. He added that Ukraine was able to successfully shoot down 15 of them.&nbsp;

Russian attacks continued to rock Ukraine. The country's air force said Moscow launched a total of 30 drones and one Iskander ballistic missile on Ukraine overnight. It added that 27 of these drones had been shot down.

<h2>Ukriane claims breaking through a Russian line of defence</h2>

Ukraine on Monday (September 18) claimed its forces had broken through a Russian line of defence near the eastern frontline city of Bakhmut amid fierce fighting. Kyiv earlier said that it recaptured small clutches of land from Russian forces along the southern front and Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region.&nbsp;

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, on Saturday (July 15) made an unannounced visit to Ukraine for a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and pledged additional military supplies and humanitarian aid to the war-torn country. Yoon also visited the Ukrainian cities of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/bucha-killings-are-fake-propaganda-says-putins-ally-dmitry-medvedev-468582">Bucha</a> and Irpin.

<h2>South Korean president’s sudden visit</h2>

According to the South Korean president’s office, the visit before a summit with Zelensky was an <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/south-koreas-president-yeol-makes-sudden-ukraine-visit-to-meet-zelensky-615960">unannounced one</a>. “The president first toured the Bucha city massacre site near the capital Kyiv and the city of Irpin, where missile attacks were concentrated on civilian residential areas,” said his office. &nbsp;

It added, “President Yoon will visit a memorial for the war dead to lay a wreath, and hold a summit meeting with President Zelensky.” The surprise visit comes after Yoon attended the NATO summit in Lithuania and visited Poland this week.&nbsp;

The visit is seen as significant as very few Asian leaders have visited Ukraine, said the Korea chair at the Brussels School of Governance research organisation, Ramon Pacheco.&nbsp;

“If he’s going it’s because Zelensky allowed him to go, because he feels Korea is doing enough to warrant it,” said Pardo, as quoted by Reuters, adding that it might suggest that South Korea might be offering more support behind the scenes.

It remains to be seen if the visit will change South Korea’s long-standing policy of not giving weapons to zones which are involved in conflict.&nbsp;

A United States ally and the world’s 9th biggest arms exporter, as per the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), South Korea due to its policies has only provided Ukraine with aid and non-lethal military supplies but no weapons.

<h2>Yoon pledges more aid, to help with reconstruction</h2>

South Korea plans to provide "a larger scale of military supplies" to Ukraine this year. Notably, last year Seoul&nbsp;provided materials such as helmets and bullet-proof vests. South Korea will also increase humanitarian aid to Kyiv from $100 million last year to $150 million, in 2023.&nbsp;

It will also help rebuild Ukraine by cooperating with Kyiv on infrastructure construction backed by concessionary loans. Yoon also spoke about how Seoul has supplied safety equipment and humanitarian aid that Ukraine needs, since two months ago, including mine detectors.

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in a statement, on Friday said South Korean companies and entities in Ukraine and in other countries signed agreements to help with reconstruction.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Zelensky thanked Yoon for “the meaningful talks” and “strong support”. The Ukrainian president spoke about how the two leaders discussed “everything that is important for the normal and safe life of people".

He also thanked the South Korean president “for your new initiatives to provide financial, technical and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine” without going into detail.&nbsp;

Sudan’s warring sides, early Friday (May 12) signed an agreement and committed to protecting civilians and the movement of humanitarian aid, however, have not yet agreed to a ceasefire, said the United States officials. This comes nearly a week after US-Saudi Arabia brokered talks between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary faction Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began in Jeddah.&nbsp;

What have the two sides agreed to do?

A report by the news agency AFP, citing a US official involved in what has been dubbed as “pre-negotiation talks”, said that the two sides have signed the agreement on a “declaration of commitment to protect the civilians of Sudan”.&nbsp;

“We affirm our commitment to ensuring the protection of civilians at all times, including by allowing safe passage for civilians to leave areas of active hostilities on a voluntary basis in the direction of their choice,” the declaration stated. The two sides also signed a declaration that they would work towards a short-term ceasefire in further talks, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

The agreement in question largely implies that both sides will let in humanitarian assistance, to allow the restoration of electricity, water and other basic services. Furthermore, the two sides will also withdraw security forces from hospitals and arrange for “respectful burial” of the dead.&nbsp;

“The two sides are quite far apart,” a US State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters. The official also said that the negotiators are working with Saudi and US mediators and set a goal of reaching a ceasefire deal in up to 10 days.&nbsp;

“This is not a ceasefire. This is an affirmation of their obligations under international humanitarian law, particularly with regard to the treatment of civilians and the need to create space for humanitarians to operate,” the US official told AFP.&nbsp;

She added, “We are hopeful, cautiously, that their willingness to sign this document will create some momentum that will force them to create the space,” to bring in relief supplies. Hundreds of people have been killed due to the conflict which suddenly began on April 15 and has triggered a humanitarian crisis. 
 
Situation in Sudan

The two sides have been fighting for nearly a month and as of Thursday, the fighting has rocked Halfaya, an entry point to the capital city of Khartoum. Meanwhile, the residents, as per Reuters, also heard warplanes circling over Khartoum and its adjoining cities of Bahri and Omdurman. However, the fighting reportedly seemed calmer than the previous day.

According to the World Health Organization, over 600 people have been killed and more than 5,000 injured in the fighting. The country’s Health Ministry said at least 450 people were killed in the western Darfur region alone. This comes as many UN agencies and NGOs announced temporary suspensions of their work in Khartoum and Darfur due to the intense fighting.&nbsp;

Dzhaparova took to Twitter to post her thanks on Tuesday post the meeting. Her tweet read, "Had a fruitful meeting with @M_Lekhi. Briefed Minister on #Ukraine's efforts to fight unprovoked aggression. Discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in various fields, in a particular culture. Bookshelves and audio guides under the patronage of @ZelenskaUA will be available soon in India."

Dzhaparova spoke with Secretary (West), MEA Sanjay Verma in-person over the course of her three-day trip. International issues of shared interest as well as topics in the economy, defence, and humanitarian aid were on the agenda.

The deputy foreign minister of Ukraine informed Secretary (West) on the situation there as the conflict with Russia heated further.&nbsp;

The Inter-Governmental Commission between New Delhi and Kyiv will meet again at a mutually agreed-upon time in India, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs. During the discussion, both parties decided to hold the following round of Foreign Office Consultations in Kyiv on a later date that would be agreed upon by both parties.

The MEA statement said, "The Ukrainian Deputy FM also proposed that rebuilding infrastructure in Ukraine could be an opportunity for Indian companies. Secretary (West) shared that India has provided medicines, and medical equipment and would provide school buses, etc. to Ukraine."

Following a visit to the Manohar Parrikar Institute of Defence Studies, Dzhaparova spoke at the Indian Council of World Affairs. She emphasised Ukraine's aim to forge a stronger and more enduring relationship with India during her visit.

India has also sent a 30-bed medical facility to Turkiye, with 99 personnel and medical equipment, including X-ray machines, ventilators, and ambulances.

Speaking to WION on Tuesday, Türkiye Ambassador to India Firat Sunel said, "PM Narendra Modi gave immediate instructions to build a crisis centre and all relevant Indian authorities had a meeting. I was also there for cooperation, and this is an example of good friendship, and we really appreciate it so much."

Besides Turkey, India has sent over six (6) tonnes of relief material to Syria, including emergency use medicines and essential medical items. The relief supplies, transported on a C130J aircraft, also include general and protective gear and equipment such as ECG machines and monitors.

The Syrian Ambassador also spoke to WION and appreciated the Indian support. "The fast, good, generous response by the Government of India is really unique.”&nbsp;

India’s junior foreign minister V Muraleedharan had visited the embassies of both countries in Delhi and extended condolences on behalf of the Indian government.

India's quick response to the crisis highlights its commitment to supporting disaster-stricken communities and providing crucial aid to those in need.

Sources told Reuters last month the&nbsp;frozen&nbsp;funds&nbsp;amount to more than $3 billion.

The money, held in Venezuelan-owned accounts overseas, was&nbsp;frozen&nbsp;by US&nbsp;and European banks after the United States ramped up sanctions under the administration of President Donald Trump, designed to pressure President Nicolas Maduro to take steps toward free elections.

Talks between Maduro's government and its political opponents resumed in Mexico City on Saturday, mediated by Norway, after being on ice for more than a year.

US&nbsp;Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed the talks as "an important step toward restoring democracy to Venezuelans.

"We will look to the parties to achieve lasting agreements that set the course for free and fair presidential elections in 2024," he said&nbsp;on Twitter.

Maduro also posted a statement on Twitter, saying: "We will always strive for dialogue with all Venezuelan society. We continue to take important steps for the well-being of our country."

Following the announcement for an UN-administered fund, the US&nbsp;Treasury Department issued a license for Chevron, the second largest US&nbsp;oil company, to expand operations in Venezuela, allowing it to import Venezuelan crude into the United States.

The government's delegation was led by congressional leader Jorge Rodriguez of&nbsp;Venezuela's&nbsp;ruling United Socialist Party (PSUV), and the opposition group was headed by politician Gerardo Blyde.

Maduro had said&nbsp;the aim of the talks was to recover the "kidnapped" resources for public investment: "Then we will see what other issues can be discussed."

The&nbsp;funds&nbsp;are set to help stabilize the country's electric grid, improve education infrastructure and deal with the impact of this year's deadly rains and flooding.
