The UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), in a post on X, also appealed to the companies to look after their workers'&nbsp;health and safety.&nbsp;

The Emirates Schools Establishment announced that additionally, the schools will continue to hold online classes and distance learning due to the weather.

<h2>How ‘Ahlan Modi’ event has been affected by rains?&nbsp;</h2>

The ‘Ahlan Modi’ (Hello Modi) event, which will be addressed by the prime minister later in the day, has been scaled down due to bad weather and the officials have been forced to reduce participation strength from 80,000 to 35,000, as reported by PTI.

“Preparations for one of the biggest diaspora events of Prime Minister Modi at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi were going fine, but the participation was reduced because of the weather,” said community leader Sajeev Purushothaman, while speaking to PTI.

The officials have received around 60,000 registrations for the interaction. However, now 35,000 to 40,000 people, which include those who will present cultural programmes, are likely to attend the interaction.&nbsp;

<h2>PM Modi's UAE visit</h2>

The prime minister's UAE visit will be his seventh visit since 2015, and his third visit in the last eight months.&nbsp;

As per local residents, a crocodile was sighted at Alapakkam, New Perungalathur, Chennai. Pictures doing the rounds indicate that the crocodile was lying by the road, in the vegetation adjoining a compound wall. Within a few hours, the police, local authorities and Forest Department personnel are said to have been alerted and they arrived at the spot. As word spread about the crocodile in the area, a crowd had gathered there. It was suspected that the crocodile belonged to one of the nearby water bodies.

Commenting on the earlier video of the crocodile crossing a road in Chennai, Supriya Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment Climate Change &amp; Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu, mentioned that there are few mugger crocodiles in several of the water bodies in Chennai. "These are shy and elusive animals and avoid human contact. This one has come out as the water has overflown due to massive rains under the impact of Cyclone Michaung. Please do not go close to water bodies. There is no possibility of harm to humans if these animals are left alone and unprovoked." she had said in an X post.&nbsp;

The Southern Indian city of Chennai and its adjoining districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur have been witnessing very heavy rainfall and gusty winds over the last 12 hours, owing to the impact of Cyclone Michaung, in the Bay of Bengal.&nbsp;

According to Dr Balachandran, Head, Regional Meteorological Centre (under the Indian Meteorological Department), Chennai, the cyclonic storm lay around 100 kms East-northeast of Chennai and it is expected to move Northwest direction and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm around Monday (Dec 4) noon.

Dr Balachandran added that the storm will move parallel to the coast of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast. It is expected to cross between Nellore and Machilipatnam around Tuesday noon. He warned that heavy rainfall and strong winds in Chennai and adjoining districts are to continue well until Monday night, urging residents to undertake necessary precautions.&nbsp;

Many parts of Chennai and adjoining districts have received around 25 cm of rainfall, thereby causing severe water logging and water entering homes in low-lying areas. Since Sunday evening, the rainfall has been continuous, with very few breaks and gusty winds of speeds ranging between 40 kmph to 85 kmph.

Multiple teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are deployed across Chennai and adjoining districts&nbsp;to carry out search and rescue when the need arises. Primarily, the NDRF has been evacuating people to safety from low-lying areas where water has entered homes.&nbsp;

While there are multiple instances of water logging on arterial roads and residential areas, there is no overall risk of flooding (due to overflow) from the major reservoirs that supply water to Chennai and nearby areas. Authorities have constantly been releasing excess water from the reservoirs in a controlled manner. As of Sunday, based on data from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Chembarambakkam Reservoir is at 76 per cent capacity, Thervoy Kandigai Reservoir is at 97 per cent capacity, and Puzhal Reservoir is at 84 per cent capacity. However, there is the risk of localised flooding in low-lying areas and those near smaller bodies, where the outflow of water is not regulated.&nbsp; 
 
Chennai arrivals closed for over&nbsp;12 hours

With Chennai city having borne a significant impact of the cyclone, the city airport has been shut for 14&nbsp;hours&nbsp;for arrivals.&nbsp;

Operated by the Airport Authority of India, the Chennai airport announced the suspension of arrival operations on Monday&nbsp;from 9:17 am&nbsp;until 11:30 pm (local time).&nbsp;

At least two killed, 500 houses inundated after floods hit central Vietnam

Nearly 30 people have been killed after heavy rains in the region triggered landslides in the Cameroon capital city of Yaounde, according to media reports citing officials&nbsp;on Monday (Oct 9). This comes after heavy rains led to a section of a hillside covered with precarious houses to collapse.&nbsp;

Several local media reports citing officials have said that at least 27 people have been killed while dozens of others are missing. Meanwhile, rescue efforts were hampered by floods but continued on Monday after a landslide in the district of Mbankolo, northwest of Yaounde, on Sunday evening.&nbsp;

A report by BBC citing a local radio station said that the death toll could be as high as 40 since many people are still missing and residents have been forced to pull bodies out of the debris with their bare hands due to the floods.

The poor neighbourhood of Mbankolo is said to be among the worst affected by the disaster. According to public broadcaster CRTV and a local official, torrential rainfall caused a dam containing a man-made lake situated on higher ground to burst.

As per AFP, Paul Atanga Nji, minister of territorial administration, who was at the site said that the death toll has risen to 27 after rescuers had previously reported 23. He also said that the houses were built “in a dangerous area”.&nbsp;

“Yesterday we pulled out 15 people who had died and this morning we have found eight,” fire service official David Petatoa Poufong told reporters. He added, “We are still looking.” &nbsp;

Housing and Urban Development Minister Celestine Ketcha Court told BBC that the team of rescuers would “work all day long to continue finding people”.&nbsp;

An AFP journalist reported that a couple of exhausted-looking local residents were seen holding corners of a large sheet carrying what one said were the bodies of two children.&nbsp;

The local police have cordoned off the site as rescue operations continued. Images broadcast on TV showed an entire section of a hill had collapsed with parts of the houses that remained apparently constructed from wood, dried earth bricks and metal sheeting, reported AFP.&nbsp;

“A man died after a wall collapsed near Volos city, probably due to bad weather,” a fire brigade official told Reuters. The Athens News Agency identified the man as a cattle breeder who was trying to reach his animals.

Fire brigade spokesperson Ioannis Artopoios told Skai television that a man was missing from Volos, a port city on the Pagasetic Gulf after his car was swept away by the rainstorm. “His son came out (of the car) but the father was carried away and there is a search operation under way right now,” said Artopoios.&nbsp;

Multiple cars in Volos were seen being washed away by torrential rain onto muddy shores, reported Reuters, citing footage from the state broadcaster ERT. Officials have also restricted traffic in the wider area of Volos due to the floods.&nbsp;

The heavy rain-triggered floods were reported just days after deadly wildfires ravaged areas in northern Greece. The “megafire” blaze in Dalia has destroyed more than 81,000 hectares of the forested area, protected by the European agency Natura 2000, as of Monday (Sep 4).&nbsp;

“According to the latest information from our firefighters, the Dadia fire front is on its way to being completely under control,” said government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis.&nbsp;

A day earlier Greek officials said they were making headway in bringing the wildfire which experts have classified as a “megafire” in Dadia National Park, also in the northern part of the country. “A man died after a wall collapsed near Volos city, probably due to bad weather,” a fire brigade official told Reuters. The Athens News Agency identified the man as a cattle breeder who was trying to reach his animals. Fire brigade spokesperson Ioannis Artopoios told Skai television that a man was missing from Volos, a port city on the Pagasetic Gulf after his car was swept away by the rainstorm. “His son came out (of the car) but the father was carried away and there is a search operation under way right now,” said Artopoios. Multiple cars in Volos were seen being washed away by torrential rain onto muddy shores, reported Reuters, citing footage from the state broadcaster ERT. Additionally, flash floods also occurred in the village of Weiziping, situated in a narrow ravine two hours south of Xian. The&nbsp;national public radio CNR also reported that two houses were&nbsp;swept away with&nbsp;damage to&nbsp;roads, bridges, electricity supply and other infrastructure.&nbsp;

A hundred soldiers as well as firefighters were mobilised for the relief operations "which are continuing" on Sunday, added the media report.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, no deaths or injuries were immediately reported in neighbouring southern Austria, where some villages were disrupted due to floods.&nbsp;

<h2>Slovenia on ‘red alert’</h2>

The Slovenian environmental agency issued a “red alert” – the highest level&nbsp;– after a month’s amount of rain fell within 24 hours in the capital Ljubljana, along with Maribor and Celje. “Three people have died over the last 24 hours in weather-related incidents,” police spokeswoman Maja Adlesic told AFP.&nbsp;

Among those killed&nbsp;were two Dutch citizens in the mountains surrounding Kranj affected by the storms, reported Slovenian news agency STA. The third person was said to be an elderly Slovenian woman who&nbsp;died in the flooded town of Kamnik. 
 
However, the exact circumstances of their deaths remain unknown and are currently under investigation, said the police.&nbsp;The Dutch officials also confirmed the deaths but not the cause. 
 
According to the country’s meteorologists, heavy rains will continue for at least the next 24 hours. Officials in Slovenia, on Friday, also warned of more floods in other areas because of swiftly swelling rivers.

<h2>Damage and evacuations in parts of Slovenia</h2>

Authorities have ordered the&nbsp;evacuation of several thousand people in parts of the town of Celje along the surging Savinja River. This comes after the same river swept away houses and caused landslides in the town of Ljubno.&nbsp;

According to Slovenian media reports, flooding has caused the closure of the highway connecting the capital Ljubljana with the country’s north as well as some railway lines. This comes after rivers in the nearby areas have overflowed, and bridges as well as several houses have reportedly been destroyed.&nbsp;

So far, around 16,000 households suffered power cuts and several villages were reported to be inaccessible. “Some areas are completely cut off and communication is also difficult,” said the country’s civil protection chief Srecko Sestan.&nbsp;

This comes as rescuers, on Friday struggled to reach flooded areas and issued a public call for rubber boats in parts of the county which had been cut off because of road closures and impassibility due to landslides.

The administration for civil protection and disaster relief recorded more than 1,000 weather-related incidents within 12 hours across the country, reported STA. Additionally, over 100 buildings including a sports hall were flooded in Skofja Loka where roads were also blocked.&nbsp;

“The situation is serious,” Defence Minister Marjan Sarec told reporters, adding that the army had joined rescue and firefighter teams to help citizens in the most affected areas. He also urged people to stay at home and not drive anywhere.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob returned to the country after&nbsp;cutting&nbsp;his vacation short and&nbsp;met&nbsp;with civil protection staff on Friday afternoon.

<h2>What’s happening in Austria?</h2>

Similarly, in Austria roads to some villages in the southern state of Carinthia were blocked, reported the local authorities, on Friday while the district of Volkermarkt, bordering Slovenia particularly badly affected.&nbsp;

Residents in St. Paul in the Lavanttal Valley of Carinthia were also asked to stay on the upper floors and avoid basements and bridges. As of Friday morning, around 4,000 households were without electricity, as per the utility company Energie Steiermark.&nbsp;

<h2>Croatia and Bosnia next?</h2>

Forecasters in Slovenia also warned that the heavy rain and floods are expected to spread to neighbouring Croatia and Bosnia further to the south.&nbsp;

Images and videos from Beijing show streets transformed into rivers overnight, affecting as many as 358 roads across the Chinese capital where cars were seen submerged while others were swept away in the floods.&nbsp;

In Beijing’s western suburbs, Mentougou district, rescuers found two bodies in a river during an emergency patrol and reported that hundreds were pulled to safety.&nbsp;

“This morning it was crazy, the water overflowed the Mentougou river and the whole avenue was flooded,” Guo Zhenyu, a 49-year-old resident, told AFP.&nbsp;

The average rainfall in Beijing reached 176.9 mm between Saturday night and Monday afternoon with the maximum recorded rainfall in Mentougou hitting 580.9 mm, according to the state media.&nbsp;

More than 4,000 construction sites were halted in Beijing, and almost 20,000 buildings were inspected for damage. Beijing residents had been asked not to go outside unless necessary, leaving the usually buzzing streets mostly deserted over the weekend.&nbsp;

Both airports in the Chinese capital cancelled more than 200 flights on Monday afternoon, with close to 600 delayed, said a report by Reuters citing data from flight tracking app Flight Master.&nbsp;

The heavy rains due to storm Doksuri, which was downgraded from a typhoon, also led to the issuance of alerts in Beijing’s neighbouring city of Tianjin as well as Hebei province. According to reports, three of the five rivers that make up the Hai River basin rose to dangerous levels on Monday.

Additionally, some houses washed away in the Yongding River while&nbsp;at least 55,000 people were evacuated from their homes in Baoding City, as per media reports. A driver was also reported missing after two trucks fell off a collapsed bridge in Baoding city, on Sunday.&nbsp;

Chen Hong, a resident of the southern Fengtai district, shared footage with AFP that showed a parked van half-submerged in fast-flowing muddy water on Monday morning.&nbsp;

“Once it starts raining the road turns into a drain, and there's water on the first floor inside houses,” Chen told the news agency. He also spoke about how since the houses are old they have raised concerns about safety.&nbsp;

Chinese forecasters also warned about the approach of another storm named <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/china-doksuri-downgraded-from-typhoon-beijing-residents-brace-for-heavy-rains-asked-to-stay-indoors-620805">‘Khanun’</a>, which is expected to rapidly gain strength and strike China’s densely populated coast&nbsp;next week. China: Doksuri downgraded from typhoon, over 30,000 evacuated from Beijing

The Chinese weather agency issued a red alert for torrential rain in the capital city of Beijing, on Saturday (July 29) this comes as parts of northern China were flooded due to typhoon Doksuri, one of the strongest storms to hit the country in years. The storm has also prompted thousands to evacuate in Beijing after pummelling the Philippines and Taiwan as well as China’s coast.&nbsp;

<h2>Alert in Beijing and surrounding provinces</h2>

According to China’s national forecaster, a broad area that also includes the capital city of Beijing and surrounding provinces may witness a medium to high risk of rainstorm disasters in the next three days, while thunderstorms in the capital were forecast to peak on Saturday.

This is after Doksuri pummelled into southern Fujian province, on Friday morning, while its “influence” is now being felt in the country’s north, said China’s meteorological service, on Saturday.&nbsp;

“Doksuri’s intensity continues to weaken but the impact is far from over,” said the China Meteorological Administration. The warning asks the people to be vigilant and avoid high-risk areas in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Over the weekend, the levels of rivers in southern Beijing, central and western areas of Hebei, eastern Shanxi and northern Henan, could also swell, said officials. Additionally, flash floods and geological hazards could occur around mountainous areas.&nbsp;

The red alert will go into effect from 8:00 pm (local time) and covers provinces that are home to several hundred million inhabitants including the Chinese city of Tianjin and provinces of Hebei and Shandong.

A report by AFP citing experts said that Saturday’s downpour could lead to worse flooding than the one in 2012 which led to the death of nearly 80 people and prompted the evacuations of tens of thousands.

In India's Himachal Pradesh, the recent flooding and heavy rains have resulted in a death toll of 91 people. Additionally, as many as 14 individuals are reported missing, and the northern state has suffered losses amounting to approximately Rs 4,000 crore ($487 million), said its education minister Rohit Thakur on Thursday (July 13).

The state emergency operation centre reported that as of Wednesday night, the death toll stands at 88. As per an official of the emergency operation centre, a total of 1,020 roads remain blocked, and transportation services, including bus services, have been severely disrupted.

"A total of 1,020 roads were still blocked in the state, while 2,498 transformers and 1,244 water supply schemes have been disrupted," said the official on Thursday, as reported by news agency PTI.

The meteorological office has issued a "yellow" alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in the region from July 13 to 17. The wet spell is expected to continue until July 19.

<h2>Monsoons in Himachal Pradesh</h2>

Since the onset of the monsoon on June 24, the Indian hill state of Himachal Pradesh has been severely affected by heavy rains, which triggered landslides and flash floods, leading to road blockages and damage to properties.

As of July 12, according to the emergency centre, the state has incurred a total loss of Rs 1,312 crore, and further estimates of losses are being reported.

<h2>Evacuation efforts</h2>

As per the PTI report, rescue workers have successfully evacuated 256 tourists who were stranded at Chandertal in the Lahaul and Spiti district for five days due to heavy snowfall blocking the roads.

This comes as authorities work towards shifting a total of 60,000 tourists to safer areas in the state over the past four days.

However, around 10,000 tourists stuck in places like Kasol, Kheerganga, and adjoining areas are refusing to trek to safety as they do not want to leave their vehicles behind.

To facilitate the evacuation, expert drivers were arranged to drive the tourist vehicles in the snowbound area. Food and medical supplies have been provided to the stranded tourists at Losar before taking them to Kaza, and the rescue operation is being supervised by the Lahaul and Spiti Deputy Commissioner.

Chandertal Lake, located in the Spiti valley, is a popular tourist destination where visitors often stay in camps. The evacuation from Chandertal has been described as a challenging task by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas. The Chief Minister has appointed Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, who is familiar with the harsh topography of the region, to assist in the rescue efforts.

Reportedly, as the weather had somewhat cleared on Friday, flattened houses and corrugated iron roofs jutting out from beneath thick layers of mud were seen, while haggard-looking survivors stood outside a wooden shed in which Red Cross workers placed bodies on top of each other.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Archimede Karhebwa, the assistant administrator of South Kivu’s Kalehe territory, which was also hit by the floods, told AFP that about 100 people had died, adding that several villages in Kalehe, which lies west of Lake Kivu, were submerged when rivers burst their banks after heavy rains.&nbsp;

Speaking to AFP, the official also said how the floods “surprised vendors and their clients in the markets” as they swept away hundreds of houses. The heavy rains, as per officials, began late Thursday afternoon before the “river carried away villagers”.&nbsp;

An elected official from Kalehe territory, Vital Muhini, speaking on local radio said that the floods have caused “devastating human and material damage.” According to Karhebwa, deforestation in the area has contributed to the flooding problem as the rivers have burst their banks and caused disastrous flooding on four previous occasions.&nbsp;

He added, “We are sending out an SOS to people of good will and for urgent humanitarian aid,” as quoted by AFP. However, floods and landslides are not uncommon occurrences in South Kivu.

The recent floods come nearly a decade after heavy rain destroyed more than 700 homes and more than 130 people were reported missing at the time, reported Reuters, citing United Nations. Additionally, just a month after at least 21 people died and several were reported missing in a landslide in North Kivu province.

Vanuatu is spread across 13 principal islands in the south-western Pacific, which had already been battered by Cyclone Judy that hit the capital city of Port Vila on Wednesday, prompting evacuation&nbsp;for hundreds of people across the nation.&nbsp;

According to reports, Cyclone Judy had torn off roofs, flooded roads, and uprooted countless trees. Additionally, several parts of the capital city have been without power for two days now. Cyclone Kevin passed over Port Vila late Friday and moved to the country’s southern island province of Tafea early Saturday. The wind speed was recorded at 230 km per hour, as per the meteorology department.&nbsp;

“It's crazy, Vanuatu is used to natural disasters, but I think this is the first time it has had two cyclones back to back,” said UNICEF’s Eric Durpaire to AFP. He added, “Medical centres, hospitals and schools will have been affected. Some children may not be able to go to school for weeks, maybe months.” According to the UN agency, at least 50,000 children may be affected by the cyclone.&nbsp;

On Friday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the first 6.5 magnitude earthquake, off the island of Espiritu Santo in the north at a depth of 10 kilometres. Subsequently, an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.4 struck the island.
