Weinstein -- sentenced to 23 years in prison for sex crimes in New York, as he stands trial on 11 more charges in Los Angeles -- once frequented the halls of the New York Film Festival, where 'She Said' premiered this week.

But five years after his career ended in disgrace it was Ashley Judd, the actor and activist who was one of the first figures to publicly accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment, who received a standing ovation at Manhattan's Lincoln Center.

In the film by German director Maria Schrader, Ashley Judd plays herself: an actor who rejects the sexual advances of a powerful producer, and pays the price over the course of her career, before years later coming out against him.

"It's so important to be in our truth and to have our righteousness to our story," Judd said during a panel at the film's screening in New York, paying tribute to her "sisters" who were also victims of Weinstein.

Like 1976's 'All The President's Men'&nbsp;about the Watergate scandal, or 2016's 'Spotlight,' which centred on the Boston Globe journalists who broke hundreds of stories about paedophilia in the Catholic church, 'She Said' focuses on the dogged, patient work of investigative journalism.

"Part of the reason me and Megan are so incredibly honoured by this film is that it encapsulates so much of what we believe about journalism," said Kantor. "We have both been journalists for a long time, but the Weinstein story sort of underlined everything we believe and put exclamation points on it."

He was dismissed from his production company, suspended by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and banned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. &nbsp;Georgina Chapman, Weinstein's wife, said on October 10, 2017, that she was leaving him. Their divorce was not finalised until 2021.

Allegations against Weinstein, which date back to the 1970s, opened floodgates in the American film industry and launched the #MeToo movement. Under the proposed fashion bill, management agencies will have to compensate models within 45 days of completing a job or assignment. The agencies&nbsp;will also have to provide a copy of the work contracts to the models so that predatory practices such as mystery fees and overcharging of services could be avoided.

In the case of agencies receiving royalties for a model or a creative they longer represent, the act will ensure that the said models are duly notified.&nbsp;

The commission for agencies will also be capped at 20 per cent to ensure that models are not exploited. The bill, however, has received stiff resistance from groups such as&nbsp;Artist Management Association and American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA).

"Despite agencies being a middleman between a brand client and a creative management company, the bill imposed a blanket requirement that agencies render payment to creatives (hair stylists, makeup artists, casting directors, etc.) or their representative management companies no later than 30 days after the completion of services," AAAA argued in a statement released.&nbsp;

The proposed bill was introduced in the Spring session last month. it&nbsp;nearly passed both houses of the legislature, but lawmakers ran out of time for a final vote. Reportedly, the bill will be tabled once again in the 2023 legislative session that starts in January.&nbsp;

Harvey Weinstein is facing trial in the city where he was once a towering presence at the Oscars, five years after the #MeToo movement erupted in response to women's claims about sexual assault and harassment by him.

The 70-year-old former movie magnate is already serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault in New York, but he is also accused of a number of other crimes, some of which, according to the prosecution, took place during an important Oscar week in Los Angeles. Monday marks the start of jury selection for an eight-week trial.

Five women, who will testify as Jane Does in court, filed complaints with charges&nbsp;of four counts of rape and seven other counts of sexual assault by Weinstein. He entered a not-guilty plea.

In order to demonstrate jurors that Weinstein had a history of committing such crimes, four more women will be permitted to testify about sexual assaults that occurred but did not result in charges.

Adiala told Page Six, "This isn`t about whether [Weinstein] is innocent or guilty, but if he got a fair trial or not a fair trial. It`s about whether the trial judge followed the law". 
 
Page Six further reports that the defence claims that Harvey was never charged with the actions that Aidala said, "a number of witnesses testified to". 
 
She also added that during the jury selection process, one juror lied about having published a book about sexual predators. 
 
All paperwork from both sides will be submitted by early next year and oral arguments are likely to begin in spring next year.

The latest hearing in disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein`s sexual assault case was delayed recently due to flooding. According to Variety, a flood caused a lockdown at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, the Los Angeles prison where the convicted rapist is currently behind bars. Mark Werksman, one of Weinstein`s attorneys, told members of the media who were sitting in the courtroom, "Just a routine delay."

Judge Lisa B. Lench stated that "It is my understanding that there was a flood at Twin Towers where Mr Weinstein is housed. It is now 9:40." Originally the hearing was scheduled to commence at 8:30 am. It was the latest court date, leading up to Weinstein`s long-awaited Los Angeles sexual assault and rape trial.

The hearing has now been pushed by Judge Lench to August 10 but first dealt with a few matters regarding the defence`s subpoenas to witnesses.

Variety reported that earlier this week, in another hearing for the case, Judge Lench ruled to limit the amount of information that could be obtained by Weinstein`s defence team for the upcoming trial. She approved the prosecution`s motion to quash subpoenas from four witnesses for their correspondence, including personal emails and texts dating as far back as 2004 with one of the alleged victims.

However, at that hearing, the judge said she wouldn`t prevent the defence from serving future subpoenas to victims and would not ask them to notify the prosecution in advance of their attempts to serve.

On Friday morning, discussions got a bit heated with the prosecution objecting to Weinstein`s attorney, Alan Jackson, who argued that the defence has the right to subpoena witnesses without giving advanced notice to the prosecution.

Weinstein is scheduled to go on trial on October 10 in LA. He faces 11 charges of rape and sexual assault from five women, reported Variety.

A New York appeals court on Thursday upheld Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 conviction on felony sex crimes, increasing the likelihood that the disgraced movie producer will serve a significant portion of his 23-year sentence.

Since last summer, Weinstein, 70, has been awaiting trial in Los Angeles, where he has been charged with several counts of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation, as well as other counts related to sex crimes. A trial date is expected to be set this month.

The New York decision had been hotly anticipated by the state’s legal community, particularly after oral arguments in December, when members of the five-judge panel that heard the case seemed sceptical of some decisions made by the trial judge.

But the decision Thursday was unanimous — and clear.

“We reject defendant’s arguments, and affirm the conviction in all respects,” wrote Judge Angela M. Mazzarelli, the opinion’s author.

An attorney for Weinstein said his legal team would ask New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, to review the affirmation. That court will not automatically take the case.

“We are obviously disappointed in the court’s decision and look forward to asking the Court of Appeals to review what we believe are substantial meritorious legal issues,” said the attorney, Barry Kamins. “Mr. Weinstein will continue to pursue all available legal remedies to establish that he did not receive a fair trial.”

Reports of Weinstein having sexually abused women appeared in The New York Times in the fall of 2017, leading dozens of others to speak about their own experiences and eventually igniting what became known as the #MeToo movement, a global repudiation of sexual misconduct by powerful men.

The Weinstein case led to a cascade of accusations against other prominent figures and widespread discussion about the ubiquity of sexual harassment and assault, and the harm such behaviour caused.

Less than a year later, Weinstein was indicted by Manhattan prosecutors and charged with sex crimes.

His trial began in January 2020, and late the following month, a jury found him guilty of two felonies: a criminal sexual act in the first degree and third-degree rape. He was acquitted of two charges of predatory sexual assault. In March, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

The former Manhattan district attorney who charged Weinstein, Cyrus Vance Jr., said Thursday that the decision of the appeals court was a “relief,” but added that he had always been confident in the strength of the evidence.

“The trial court issued balanced rulings and by any measure provided the defendant a fair trial,” Vance said. “Most of all, I am grateful that the appeals court credited the testimony of the women in framing its legal analysis.”

His successor, Alvin Bragg, added that the appeals court had upheld “a monumental conviction that changed the way prosecutors and courts approach complex prosecutions of sexual predators.”

Weinstein’s attorneys appealed his conviction in April 2021, arguing that three women who had accused Weinstein of sexual assaults for which he was not charged should never have been allowed to testify and that prosecutors had “tried Weinstein’s character not his conduct.”

But Mazzarelli said the women had provided “useful information” and that their accounts had been key in showing Weinstein’s pattern of behaviour. They demonstrated, she said, that Weinstein did not see his victims as “romantic partners or friends,” but that “his goal at all times was to position the women in such a way that he could have sex with them, and that whether the women consented or not was irrelevant to him.”

She said the witnesses had helped the jury understand the dynamic between Weinstein and his victims, particularly because the women whom he had been charged for assaulting had continued relationships with him afterward.

Rose's comments comes days after one of Oprah`s past interviews with Dolly Parton went viral over the weekend.

Social media users discussed Oprah`s questions, including one in which she asked the country artist, "You`ve been open that you`ve had some work done, some tucks and pulls and sucks."

Dolly jovially replied, "Yes, I have and I`ll have some more when I need them." 
 
The two women also discussed Parton`s experience with depression, with Oprah remarking that she heard Dolly went into a "huge depression" when she turned 40.&nbsp; 
 
"That wasn`t cause I turned 40, it was cause I was fat and 40," the `Steel Magnolias` actor joked, before adding, "I really had a lot of problems at that time, a lot of female problems. Just hormones... But I`m okay now, it was one of the best things to ever happen to me because it made me take inventory." 
 
A Twitter user remarked, "I feel like Oprah wanted her to be embarrassed but ms dolly said nope." 
 
The clip sparked a wider discussion of Oprah`s former ties to Weinstein and Russell Simmons, who have both been accused of sexual misconduct. In January 2020, Oprah announced she would no longer be an executive producer on a then-untitled documentary from Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, which highlighted the stories of Simmons` accusers. 
 
She cited her opinion that "there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision." 
 
"I have great respect for their mission but given the filmmakers` desire to premiere the film at the Sundance Film Festival before I believe it is complete, I feel it`s best to step aside," she continued."I will be working with Time`s Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment," she added at the time. 
 
From 2017 to 2019, Simmons was accused of rape and sexual misconduct by at least 15 women. Jennifer Jarosik accused the producer of rape in a January 2018 lawsuit but she and Simmons filed a joint stipulation of dismissal with prejudice in April. 
 
At the time of Jarosik`s filing, Simmons issued a statement, saying in part, "This allegation is absolutely untrue. I look forward to having my day in court--where, unlike the court of public opinion, I will have the ability to make use of fair processes that ensure that justice will be done and that the full truth will be known." 
 
A Jane Doe went on to accuse the producer of rape in a separate lawsuit. However, the case was dismissed by the judge because of the statute of limitations.&nbsp; 
 
In a previous statement addressing Doe`s accusations, Simmons said, "I vehemently deny all these allegations. These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relations have been consensual." 
 
Regarding Oprah`s prior friendship with Weinstein, the talk-show host said she "didn`t know" about his alleged behaviour toward women, including Rose, who accused the producer of rape, but acknowledged knowing about his notoriously aggressive style. 
 
"I was in Chicago, in my own little world, but what I knew about Harvey was that Harvey was a bully and that if Harvey`s on the phone," she explained in 2018, "you didn`t want to take the call because you`re going to get bullied in some way." 
 
Harvey has since been found guilty of rape in the third degree and criminal sexual act in the first degree. He`s currently facing additional charges in a Los Angeles court and has pleaded not guilty.&nbsp;

On Thursday, a Los Angeles judge again rejected one of 11 sexual assault counts in an indictment of Harvey Weinstein, reports said.

 
Two weeks ago, Judge Lisa B. Lench dismissed the count of sexual battery by restraint as ‘too old’ and outside the statute of limitations, but had allowed the district attorney’s office to amend the allegation against the 69-year-old former movie tycoon and convicted rapist.

 
But on Thursday, the judge found that neither of the two attempts at an amended complaint from prosecutors solved the problem, and so she rejected the count again.

 
However, the judge gave the prosecutors something to work with on the dismissed count situation, saying that if they reconvene the grand jury and get it to return a new indictment for it, she may accept it. But no specific instruction—as to how the approach should be—was offered by her.&nbsp;

The rejected count dates back to May of 2010. And Harvey Weinstein was first charged with it in January 2020, before the statute of limitations had expired. Prosecutors then got an indictment from a grand jury on an identical count six months later, when the time had lapsed.

 
“The people are grasping to try to save something that is unsalvageable. “They did it, they blew it, they can’t fix it,” Weinstein attorney Alan Jackson said in court.&nbsp;

 
The judge also agreed with that the grand jury indictment was a new prosecution, and therefore was coming too late. 
However, the prosecutors argued that it was a continuation of the same case.

 
The counts maybe a small part of the case, as reports call it, but dismissing the same removes one of five accusers from Weinstein’s forthcoming trial.

 
“Today’s a great example of why we need judges with a backbone… and juries with a tough spine to stand up against false accusations,” Weinstei’s &nbsp;attorney Mark Werksman reportedly said outside court.

 
In a statement sent to an entertainment portal, Weinstein’s representative said, “We are pleased that the judge agreed that one of the charges alleged was barred by the statute of limitations. It remains dismissed and, given the statute and the fact that Harvey maintains his innocence of the charges, it never should have been brought in the first place. We consider this a partial victory, but know there is quite the road ahead. Harvey remains optimistic and hopeful, and must focus on his health right now.”

 
Still intact are four counts of rape and six other sexual assault counts. Weinstein pleaded not guilty to all of them last month in his first court appearance in the California case. Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein's bid to have two charges of sexual assault against a woman thrown out was rejected by a Los Angeles judge Thursday.

Weinstein, already convicted of rape in New York, was extradited last week to the California city where he once towered over the movie industry, but now stands accused of the rape and sexual assault of a total of five women.

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was extradited from New York to Los Angeles on Tuesday to face trial on rape and sexual assault charges. 
 
Weinstein was convicted in New York in February 2020 for sexual assault and rape and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. 
 
In Los Angeles, he is wanted for trial on 11 charges of attacking five women from 2004 to 2013. 
 
The Los Angeles charges include forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual battery by restraint, and sexual penetration by use of force. If convicted, Weinstein could spend the rest of his life in prison. 
 
Los Angeles police said Weinstein had arrived in Los Angeles and "after being medically cleared for booking, he will be booked into custody with LA County Sheriffs." 
 
No date was given for his first appearance in court. 
 
Weinstein, 69, is appealing his New York conviction and sentence, and has denied having nonconsensual sex with anyone. 
 
He had been fighting extradition on medical grounds, citing diabetes and cardiac, back and eyesight problems. 
 
"We will be fighting so that Harvey can receive his needed medical care and of course, so that he can be treated fairly. Due process, presumption of innocence and a fair trial are all still his right," his spokesman Juda Engelmayer said in a statement on Tuesday. 
 
Weinstein was one of the most powerful movie and TV producers in Hollywood before allegations by more than 80 women of sexual misconduct in 2017 led to criminal charges and fueled the wider #MeToo movement. 
 
He co-founded the Miramax film studio, whose hit movies included "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction." His own eponymous film studio filed for bankruptcy in March 2018.

Following the allegations of sexual assault and misconduct by several women, Chapman, a designer by profession, announced in 2017 that she would be divorcing Weinstein. The former couple has two children together—daughter India and son Dashiell.&nbsp;

 
The pair got married in 2007 and reached a divorce settlement in 2018 wherein Weinstein had to pay USD 15 to 20 million (approx). Chapman also got the primary custody of their kids.&nbsp;

According to a news report by an international media organisation, on June 15, a judge in Buffalo (New York) has approved to move Weinstein to Los Angeles and the transfer is expected sometime in July. But Weinstein, who is in prison in upstate New York, has been fighting this extradition since April this year. His lawyers have continued to object the extradition move, this time in Los Angeles.

Weinstein’s lawyers have mentioned in a petition last month that the movie producer is suffering from a massive cataract in his right eye and an active lesion in the left. They mentioned in the petition that in order to prevent him from going blind, Weinstein needs to be treated and it could take anywhere between six to nine months. His team of lawyers have also asked that the extradition should be delayed until after the treatment is over and once the medical staff gives a go-ahead for him to be transferred.&nbsp;

 
The report also said that as per the law, Los Angeles prosecutors have 120 days to bring Weinstein to trail once he is transferred. However, his lawyers argue that the District Attorney’s office knows it cannot bring Weinstein to trail within that time frame because he is not medically fit to stand trial.&nbsp;

 
Reacting to the content of the petition this week, prosecutors said that the L.A County Sheriff’s Department can provide adequate care to Weinstein and that the District Attorney’s office has no problem with the 120-day deadline to start with the proceedings of the trail.&nbsp;

Jailed ex-filmmaker Harvey Weinstein, who is serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault in New York, can be transferred to Los Angeles, a judge ruled Tuesday, paving the way for a new trial on additional charges.

Lawyers for Weinstein, who was found guilty last year in a landmark verdict for the #MeToo movement, had been arguing for weeks against the transfer, most notably on medical grounds.

However, Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case rejected the arguments, giving a green light for the transfer during a video hearing.

While no date has yet been set, Los Angeles prosecutors expect to remove Weinstein from the Erie County prison sometime between late June and mid-July, a spokeswoman for the county prosecutor said.

At the end of the hearing, Weinstein plunged his head into his hands.

The 69-year-old former Hollywood mogul is accused in Los Angeles of rape and sexual assault against five women, which would make him eligible for up to 140 years in prison.

Weinstein denies all charges, and has always maintained that his interactions with the women who brought the New York and Los Angeles cases against him were consensual.

Weinstein filed an appeal in April in New York against the rape and sexual assault convictions.
