Two back-to-back explosions were heard in a Ukrainian court in the capital Kyiv on Wednesday, leaving one dead and two injured, local media reported.

Ukraine's interior minister Igor Klymenko said that a man blew himself up on the court premises during which two law enforcement officers were also wounded

"An offender died at the scene. According to preliminary information, he blew himself up," Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said on social media.

Two law enforcement officers were wounded as they stormed the premises, Klymenko added.

The explosion took place at 5:20 p.m. (1420 GMT) in the toilet of the court, the Kyiv city military administration said.

Ihor Humenyuk, the suspect, was linked to the deaths of four Ukrainian national guardsmen in 2015 and was attending the court in that case.

Reportedly, following the hearing, Humenyuk barricaded himself inside a bathroom and threw an explosive device at two guards. Their prompt actions prevented him from escaping the building.

As law enforcement officers fired into the air to contain the situation, Humenyuk retreated into another room within the courthouse. Refusing to engage in negotiations with officials, he further resorted to violence by hurling another explosive device, injuring two officers in the process.

Unfortunately, the altercation ended with Humenyuk losing his life. An investigation is now underway to determine how he had come into possession of the explosives within the courtroom premises.

One killed, two injured after multiple explosions rock Ukrainian court

An explosion was heard in a building in Shimbashi district of central Tokyo on Monday (July 3). Media footage showed flames and smoke emerging from a second-floor business. The city's fire department has said that four people have been injured.

"The sound of an explosion was also heard. A total of 32 fire trucks are at the scene," a fire department spokesman told AFP, declining to be named.

"Four people are injured, three of whom are conscious," he said, adding no details were yet available on the fourth person.

It is not yet known what caused the explosion and the fire. But a gas leak is suspected. There was no immediate confirmation of this from the officials.

The fire started at 3:20 pm (0620 GMT).

"The sound was deafening. It was as if something huge was dropped from the top of the building -- it was an incredible bang," a male eyewitness told public broadcaster NHK.

"Pieces of paper were scattered all over at the nearby intersection. From the way they were scattered, I immediately knew it was an explosion," he said.

Local media is reporting on the incident. It has been reported that the explosion occurred in a bar on the second floor of the building. Those injured include a man and a woman in their 50s.

NHK reported that the manager of the bar told the police that explosion occurred when he lit a cigarette in the smoking area of the bar.

The building is reportedly eight stories tall. At the time of the explosion, the bar was preparing to open for the evening.

A gas leak?

NHK quoted a fire prevention expert who said that the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak at the bar.

"Judging from the situation at the scene, some kind of gas leaked into a room on the second floor and triggered an explosion," said Professor Sekizawa Ai of the Tokyo University of Science

"It seems there is no damage on the other floors and the explosion is not believed to have filled the building with gas."

The professor reportedly warned people to not approach the site until exact cause has been ascertained.

Six days after a massive blast destroyed a 17th-century building in France, injuring 58, a body was found in the rubble on Tuesday. Emergency services, looking for a missing woman after the blast, stumbled upon the body, an AFP report stated.

The missing person was a teacher at the Paris American Academy fashion school on the city's touristy Left Bank. French media reports claimed that she had been teaching at the academy for 20 years and was on the third floor of the building when the blast took place.

Apart from the woman, Peter Carman, the head of the academy, is among the worst hurt in the accident. Carman had reportedly rushed to cut off the power supply when the smell of gas spread through the building.

Notably, the search operation of the destroyed building was briefly halted over the weekend, while a neighbouring building, which was on the verge of collapse, was stabilised.

In a concerning revelation, email exchanges obtained by the BBC expose the repeated dismissal of safety warnings over OceanGate's Titan submersible by the company's CEO, Stockton Rush. The messages, involving renowned deep-sea exploration specialist Rob McCallum, reveal a heated exchange in which McCallum cautioned Rush about the potential risks faced by clients and implored him to suspend the sub's usage until it received independent classification.

"I think you are potentially placing yourself and your clients in a dangerous dynamic," McCallum wrote to the OceanGate boss in March 2018.

Gas leak caused explosion One of the witnesses told The Paper, an online news outlet, that she heard the blast about 50 metres (164 feet) from the restaurant. The woman, identified only by her surname Chen, further said that she saw two waiters emerging from the restaurant after the blast, one of whom collapsed immediately, even as thick smoke billowed from the restaurant and a strong smell of cooking gas permeated the area. 🔴Çin'de barbekü restoranında patlama: 31 ölü Patlama Çin'in Ningxia özerk bölgesinin başkenti Yinchuan şehir merkezindeki Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant'ta meydana geldi. Three killed in Israeli drone strike as violence escalates in West Bank Local reports say that such accidents are common in China due to poor government supervision, corruption, cost-cutting measures by employers and little safety training for employees. During the country’s May Day holiday, nine people were killed in an explosion at a Chinese petrochemical plant, and three others died in a helicopter crash. In February, 53 miners were killed in the collapse of a massive open pit coal mine in the northern region of Inner Mongolia, leading to numerous arrests, and four people were detained over a fire at an industrial trading company in central China in November that killed 38 people. The central government has pledged stronger safety measures since an explosion in 2015 at a chemical warehouse in the northern port city of Tianjin killed 173 people, most of them firefighters and police officers. In that case, a number of local officials were accused of having taken bribes to ignore safety violations. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE

Another explosion near Golden Temple in Punjab injures 1; bomb squad reaches site

A worker who was previously missing after a powerful explosion at a pharmaceutical chemical plant in Massachusetts, US, was found dead hours after the blast tore through the building, on Thursday (May 4). The incident in Newburyport has since prompted Democrat Senator Edward Markey to demand accountability from the plant’s owners.

The body of the worker was found by the search-and-rescue crews around 5:25 pm (local time), hours after the explosion took place in the morning, said acting Newburyport Fire Chief Stephen Bradbury who did not identify the victim. Bradbury described the blast as a “seven-alarm hazardous materials” event and said that the body was recovered from the building.

According to a local media report, the worker who passed away was a 61-year-old man. Images of the scene show the roof of the building destroyed and debris lying across the field around the plant.

The search and rescue operation was also hampered after given the plant’s structural integrity following the blast and high flames. Furthermore, four workers were taken to the hospital as a precaution but were found uninjured.

While authorities had assured that the plant will not affect the local population, one woman, as per the Associated Press, said she could taste chemicals on her lips. “I could smell chemicals in the air. I could taste it on my lips,” said 58-year-old, Nancy Gero, who works next door to the plant.

The explosion took place around 1:00 am at the Sequens/PCI Synthesis plant, said the officials. The blast blew a vat from the building 30 feet into a parking lot, Bradbury said in a news release.

According to the fire chief, five workers were inside the building at the time of the blast. “It was a very violent explosion,” said Bradbury. After the incident, PCI Synthesis in a statement said, “All our attention is focused on the situation of our employees.”

After the incident, Democrat Senator for Massachusetts took to Twitter and wrote, “This morning’s explosion at the Seqens pharmaceutical manufacturing plant is horrifying—and it's just the latest avoidable disaster at this facility, following years of serious violations, fines, and explosions.”

The cause of the explosion remains unknown including which, if at all, chemicals were involved. According to the officials from the state Department of Environmental Protection, the smoke from the fire blew over the industrial park and into a largely unpopulated area and reported some runoff from firefighting foam.

However, this is not the first time that the chemical plant has come under scrutiny as a fire in 2021 sent smoke pouring out of roof vents and prompted a hazardous materials team to respond, reported AP, citing a fire department statement released at the time. The year prior, authorities said a chemical reaction caused a series of explosions at the plant.

US: Worker killed after pharmaceutical plant explosion in Massachusetts

At least 16 people, mostly policemen were killed by multiple explosions caused by fire in an ammunition store, at a Pakistan police station. Around 50 people were found injured. Pakistan's PM says, the nature of the blasts is being investigated.

A massive explosion at a dairy farm in west Texas state has killed more than 18,000 cows, making it the deadliest blaze for livestock on record in the United States.

According to USA Today, the figure is almost three times the number of cattle that are slaughtered every day across the US.

One person was also critically injured in the explosion at South Fork Dairy near the town of Dimmitt at Castro Country on Monday.

Mayor of Dimmitt, Roger Malone, described the number of cow deaths as “mind-boggling”, adding that it was a “real tragedy.”

Officials believe that a fire broke out in the machinery, which may have ignited methane gas.

Castro County’s top executive, County Judge Mandy Gfeller, said that a piece in the equipment malfunctioned at the farm and may have caused an explosion that led to the fire, reports BBC.

Texas officials are still investigating the real cause of the incident, she said.

It took almost a whole day for fire rescue officials to douse the blaze, which is said to have spread rapidly through the holding pens where thousands of dairy cows were crowded together and waiting to be milked.

One dairy farm worker was rescued and taken to hospital. As of Tuesday, the worker was in a critical but stable condition. There were no other human casualties.

Pictures of the incident shared on social media purportedly showed a large plume of black smoke billowing out of the facility.

A massive explosion at a dairy farm in west Texas state has killed more than 18,000 cows, making it the deadliest blaze for livestock on record in the United States.

Mayor of Dimmitt, Roger Malone, described the number of cow deaths as “mind-boggling”, adding that it was a “real tragedy.” Officials believe that a fire broke out in the machinery, which may have ignited methane gas. Explosion at South Fork Dairy Farm in Dimmitt Texas last night.
An explosion occurred on Friday in the gas pipeline between Lithuania and Latvia, while no immediate evidence of the attack was found after an initial assessment. The “investigation will cover all possible options,” said the Lithuanian gas transmission operator Amber Grid. A video posted by the local media shows fire raging at the blast site in northern Lithuania’s Panevezys County, near the Latvian border. However, it has since been put out by the firefighters who immediately arrived on the scene, said the gas company.

The Chief Executive of Amber Grid, Nemunas Biknius, addressing the media, ruled out the possibility of sabotage and said, “We do not see signs of any potential impact from outside.” He also confirmed that the supply of gas was cut off, at first, after the blast as it damaged one of the two parallel pipelines sending gas to Latvia but was restored hours later. Reports suggest that the repair work on the damaged pipeline will begin on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Latvian energy minister, Raimonds Cudars, said that the explosion has so far not affected the country’s natural gas supplies and added that he has been informed that the reason for the explosion was a technical accident, said local media reports. According to the Baltic news agency BNS, the flames initially rose at least 50 metres in the air and were seen from a distance of up to 17 kilometres, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.

However, Latvia’s Defence Minister, Artis Pabriks, took to Twitter and said that the incident must be carefully evaluated and that the possibility of sabotage cannot be ruled out. On the other hand, Amber Grid’s Biknius, said that the pipeline which is over four decades old recently had gone under some maintenance work and the officials are also working to determine if that contributed to the blast.
