Following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists, a joint team of Army, Jammu and Kashmir police conducted a search operation on Thursday evening in Dadsara village which led to an encounter.&nbsp;

Within minutes of firing, Al-Sindh, an al-Qaeda media outlets asked people to help Musa escape, as he was trapped by forces. During the overnight gunbattle that followed Zakir's body was recovered from the encounter site. &nbsp;

Sources said Zakir tried to escape from the house and was shot dead in a nearby orchard.&nbsp;

"Zakir had a long history of terror crime records since 2013. He was initially associated with proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). Later he floated new terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH).&nbsp;

He was wanted for his role in a series of terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities," J&amp;K police said in a statement.&nbsp;

Fearing violence, the administration imposed curfew in parts of Kashmir valley and curfew-like restrictions in Srinagar city. Security forces were deployed in strength and barbed wires were installed in major roads.

&nbsp;At some locations, police asked people to stay indoors. Amid tense situation, authorities ordered to shut schools, colleges and universities in the region.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Protests erupted in several districts of Kashmir valley including Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama and other places.&nbsp;

"Post-encounter security scenario was managed well. There hasn't been any law and order incident reported so far. There have been some areas where restrictions have been imposed," SP Pani, Inspector general of police Kashmir range said.&nbsp;

Who was Zakir Musa?&nbsp;

Zakir Musa, a top wanted terrorists, who was associated with Pakistan backed HM from 2013. He was made commander of the group and succeeded Burhan Wani after his killing in 2016. But in 2017, he left the group after rift with the leadership.&nbsp;

Later, he founded Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Zakir openly threatened Hurriyat leadership for their pro-Pakistan idea and criticised people for raising Pakistani flag. Instead, he stood for the global Islamic movement of al-Qaeda, the idea of which was criticised by many in Kashmir.

He was declared as a proclaimed offender by NIA special court Mohali, Punjab in NIA case involving serial blasts at Jalandhar, Punjab in September 2018. Several members of his group have been eliminated in the past while others have been arrested in several areas.&nbsp;

Two other terrorists identified as Irfan of Wadoora Payeen in north Kashmir's Sopore and Muzaffar Sheikh of Tahab Pulwama were killed. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the spot of the encounter.&nbsp;

Security forces also engaged terrorists in a brief shootout during the pre-dawn hours in Dehruna area of Anantnag. Although the forces widened the cordon, according to sources terrorists, at least two of them managed to slip away.

Clashes between protesters and security forces were also reported from Pulwama and Anantnag during the encounter.&nbsp;

Later in the day, based on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the Indian Army and the CRPF in Hathlangoo village of Sopore in north Kashmir.&nbsp;

While the searches were going on, hiding terrorists opened fire on the forces, triggering an encounter. One terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved at the encounter spot.&nbsp;

The slain terrorist has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Naik, a resident of Udipora Barsoo in Awantipora. Sources informed that Waseem was missing from his home in March after which his family had filed a missing report with the police.&nbsp;

The deceased were identified as BSF's assistant sub- inspector Boro, and constables Ramkrishnan, Someshwar and Ishrar Khan, he said.

Soon after being alerted, reinforcement was rushed to the spot, he said, adding that a search operation was underway in the area.

The bodies and the injured personnel were brought to the BSF's Mahla camp later, he said.

The worst attack on the security forces though took place in April 2010 when 76 CRPF personnel were killed in the Dantewada district.&nbsp;

Both Kanker and Dantewada fall in the Bastar division, which makes up southern Chhattisgarh.&nbsp;

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel had said in January this year, after his Congress party won the state elections, that his government would address the Naxal problem by holding talks with "affected people" including villagers, intellectuals and journalists.&nbsp;

"We will not take any step on... anti-Naxal action... without taking people into confidence," he had said then.&nbsp;

Thursday's encounter comes exactly a week before the general elections.&nbsp;

Polling in the state will be held on April 11 and 23; Kanker itself will go to the polls on April 18.&nbsp;

Chhattisgarh: 4 Border Security Force jawans killed in encounter with Naxals

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces on Friday morning in Nowgam area of Jammu and Kashmir, said police.

According to the police, both the terrorists were identified as Ali and Idrees, affiliated to Jaish-E-Mohammad (JeM), the banned terrorist organisation.

Police said that they were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including the attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

"Several terror crime cases were registered against both terrorists," said the police.

Security forces have recovered arms and ammunition including rifles from the encounter site.

Citizens have been requested not to get inside the encounter zone until the area is completely cleared off all explosive materials.

Police and security forces in the morning undertook a search operation and cordoned the area to trace terrorists in Sutsoo Kalan of Nowgam in the outskirts of Srinagar, based on credible inputs.

Meanwhile, the security forces were fired upon by the hidden terrorists. The security forces retaliated in which both the terrorists were killed.

Further investigation is underway.&nbsp;
