<p>A soldier and three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed today in two gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir&#39;s Kupwara district, police and Army officials said.</p>

<p>Security forces launched a search operation at Magam in the Handwara area of Kupwara district in north Kashmir following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.</p>

<p>He said the militants were asked to surrender but they opened fire on security forces.</p>

<p>The troops retaliated and in the exchange of fire, which lasted over an hour, three Pakistani militants of the LeT were killed, the official said.</p>

<p>Later in the afternoon, another encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Zirhama in the Trehgam area of the district.</p>

<p>The police, CRPF and Army strengthened the cordon and tried to flush out the militants. The ultras opened fire, killing a soldier and injuring two other jawans, an Army official said.&nbsp;</p>

J&K: Security personnel, 2 terrorists killed in encounter in Bandipora

<p>The two Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force who were killed during <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/kashmir-2-terrorists-killed-in-encounter-with-security-forces-in-bandipora-21254">a counter-insurgency operation in Bandipora district&#39;s Hajin area</a> in Jammu &amp; Kashmir were members of the first batch of 28 Garud Commandos who have been inducted for a six-month long &ldquo;live situation training&rdquo;.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is the first time IAF personnel have died in counter-insurgency operation in Kashmir.</p>

<p>The 2016 terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force station is what ostensibly prompted the move to get IAF commandos join Indian Army personnel in counter-insurgency operations in the conflict-ridden state.</p>

<p>Sergeant K Milind Kishor and Corporal Nilesh Kumar Nayan were part of the 14-member Garud squad which was accompanying a team of the 13 Rashtriya Rifle on this mission.</p>

<p>In an official statement, the Indian Air Force said that intel was received on the night of October 10 by the Army conveying that 5-6 terrorists were hiding in a house in Hajin village.</p>

<p>&quot;The joint team laid a cordon around the house today at 0400 hours,&quot; the statement said.</p>

<p>&quot;Terrorists ran out of the house lobbing grenades and firing indiscriminately towards the cordon party. Two terrorists firing indiscriminately ran towards the position of Garuds who challenged them and killed two terrorists. In the intense operation two IAF Garuds&nbsp;(Sergeant Khairnar Milind Kishor and Corporal Nilesh Kumar Nayan) sustained serious multiple bullet injuries and were evacuated to Base Hospital, Srinagar where they succumbed to the injuries and were martyred,&quot; the statement added.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Hajin is a hotbed of terrorist activity. There was a specific input about the presence of terrorists in that area and the operation was launched in the wee hours. Once contact with the terrorists was established, they attempted to break contact and while doing so they sprayed bullets indiscriminately,&rdquo; army sources told WION.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The Garud commandos had cordoned off the area of operation. And while trying to escape, the terrorists ran into a buddy pair of Garud commandos,&rdquo; sources added. It was then that the terrorists fired on the&nbsp;two commandos killing them. Two terrorists were also killed in the encounter.</p>

<p>Sources said IAF&#39;s Garud Commandos are being made to undergo a six-month-long training&nbsp; - two week of induction training and five-and-a-half months live situation training.</p>

<p>The mortal remains of both the martyrs are being brought to Chandigarh for onward transportation to their respective native places in Maharashtra and Bihar.</p>

<p>A wreath laying ceremony will take place in Chandigarh Air Force Station on Thursday morning.</p>

<p>Raised and trained on the lines of Indian Navy&#39;s MARCOS and Indian Army&#39;s Para-Commandos, the Garuds are primarily tasked with guarding critical Air Force Bases. They are also trained to conduct airborne and counter-terrorist operations.</p>

Gunbattle ends in south Kashmir's Shopian district, militants escape

<p>Several videos have surfaced -- and troubling questions arisen -- following the killing of eight escapees from a high-security jail in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.</p>

<p>The escapees were all undertrials and accused of being members of the Students&#39; Islamic Movement of India or SIMI, a group that was&nbsp;banned in India in 2001. The escapees faced different charges from sedition to murder.</p>

<p>The eight men escaped from a jail in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, on Monday. They left behind one dead prison guard, whom they allegedly killed with knives fashioned from steel plates and glasses issued to them in prison.</p>

<p>A few hours&nbsp;later all eight undertrials were dead.</p>

<p>WION cannot verify the authenticity of the videos.</p>

<p>The one below shows apparently dead men lying on the ground. A man in plainclothes is seen recovering a large knife from one of them. Then a&nbsp;voice in the background says,&nbsp;&ldquo;Zinda hai, maaro.&rdquo; (He is alive, kill him.)</p>

Bhopal encounter deaths: Videos surface, questions arise after all eight 'escapees' from Indian jail are killed

<p>A day after eight suspected SIMI activists were killed in an alleged police encounter following a daring prison break here, their families have decided to approach the Madhya Pradesh high court seeking a CBI probe into what they dub &quot;cold-blooded murders&quot;.</p>

<p>&quot;The families of the deceased have come to me and are weeping inconsolably for justice. We are going to move the MP high court for a CBI probe into the entire incident,&quot; lawyer Parvez Alam told PTI.</p>

<p>&quot;It is surprising that the authorities are claiming that the accused climbed the 32-feet boundary wall of the jail. Is this possible?&quot; he asked.</p>

<p>Police have claimed that the escapees were killed yesterday in an encounter hours after they escaped from the high-security Central jail where they had slit the throat of a security guard and scaled the wall using bedsheets between 2 AM and 3 AM.</p>

<p>Alam described the encounter as &quot;fake&quot; and said, &quot;The TV grabs show police and ATS firing. There is no evidence that the accused fired.&quot;</p>

<p>&quot;This is a fake encounter and (these are) cold-blooded murders,&quot; Alam claimed.</p>

<p>He said Inspector General Yogesh Choudhary had last night told media that the accused made keys from toothbrushes and used them to open their cells.</p>

<p>&quot;Can someone open the keys of high-security Bhopal Central Jail that has earned an ISO certificate with keys made of toothbrushes?&quot; he wondered.</p>

<p>&quot;What lie these authorities are speaking,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>&quot;Our first course of action after the funeral of the accused killed in the encounter is to move the HC for justice,&quot; he added.</p>

<p>The kin of seven accused have already reached Bhopal to receive their bodies and take them to their place for burial, Alam said.</p>

<p>He said that no one has yet claimed the body of Mohammad Khalid, a resident of Solapur in Maharashtra.</p>

<p>Family members of accused Sheikh Mujeeb are taking his body to Ahmedabad, while Abdul Majid&#39;s mortal remains are being taken to Mahidpur area in Ujjain district of MP, he said.</p>

<p>Bodies of the rest, Amjad Khan, Zakir Hussain, Mohammad Salik, Sheikh Mehboob and Aqueel Khilji, all hailing from MP&#39;s Khandwa district, are being taken to their homes, Alam added.</p>

<p>Yesterday, the police had dismissed criticism over the encounter killing of the eight escapees near Bhopal, saying there was heavy exchange of fire in which they were killed after which four country-made guns and some other sharp-edged weapons were recovered from them.</p>

<p>Also, IG Chaudhary repeatedly maintained that all questions raised over the encounter were a matter of investigation as the series of events over seven hours between their escape and killing were still being probed.</p>

<p>This came soon after a controversy raged over the police action following the daring pre-dawn jailbreak, as TV channels showed footage purportedly from the encounter site in which a policeman is seen pumping bullets into a man from close range after some unidentified person takes out what appears to be a knife said to be in a plastic cover and places it back.</p>

<p>Besides the veracity of the video, police is also probing how the SIMI terror suspects could lay their hands on weapons after their escape.</p>

Bhopal encounter: Families of killed escapees to move high court seeking CBI probe

<p>Two militants are believed to be holed up in the area, according to Indian media reports.</p>

<p>Indian army and the police have a launched a joint operation to weed out the militants, NDTV reported.</p>

<p>The attack comes amid escalating tension between&nbsp;India and Pakistan.</p>

<p>There has been a spate in attacks in Kashmir since September 29, when India said it had conducted&nbsp;surgical strikes against suspected militants attempting to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.</p>

<p>At least seven security personnel have been killed in cross-border firing with Pakistani troops in the last few weeks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bilateral relations deteriorated further when the mutilated body of a soldier was found in Machil sector on Friday (October 28). Militants allegedly attacked the soldier under the cover of firing provided by the Pakistani Army, and escaped into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.</p>

He said terrorists opened-fire on the police team, and that constable Muhammad Javed died while sub-inspector Muhammad Tariq and frontier corps personnel Muhammad Sajjad sustained critical bullet wounds.<br />

They were shifted to Peshawar for treatment.&nbsp;In retaliation, he said, police shot dead a terrorist identified as Anwar Sayed wanted in cases of terrorism.<br />

According to a local, the gunfight between the militants and security forces did not last too long after the area was cordoned off on July 8.<br />

&ldquo;We heard a few gun shots, and within 10 minutes, the three were killed,&rdquo; he said, asking not to be named. Fearing a further backlash, the villagers are living in dread. Others hope to reason with the protesters to not damage properties further.&nbsp;<br />

Ghulam Qadir, along with many other locals, however, confesses no one in the locality had any idea about the presence of the armed militants in the area and said that people should wait until the facts are laid bare.&nbsp;<br />
