Previous events of Quran burning held in Sweden have angered the Iraqis and the protest held in Baghdad on Thursday was organised by the turbulent religious leader Moqtada Sadr's supporters.&nbsp;

According to an AFP correspondent, smoke was seen rising from the Swedish embassy building and many demonstrators were still present on the scene after the torching of the embassy as authorities deployed a large number&nbsp;of Iraqi riot police.

"We are mobilised today to denounce the burning of the Quran, which is all about love and faith," said protester Hassan Ahmed, while speaking to AFP. "We demand that the Swedish government and the Iraqi government stop this type of initiative," he added.&nbsp;

A few protesters were holding up copies of the holy book while some were holding up images f Mohamed al-Sadr, father of Moqtada Sadr and an important religious cleric.

"We didn't wait until morning, we broke in at dawn and set fire to the Swedish embassy," said a young demonstrator in Baghdad, while speaking to AFP on Thursday while chanting the name of the leader.&nbsp;

The &nbsp;AFP correspondent stated that many fire engines were present on site to extinguish the blaze.&nbsp;

The Swedish foreign ministry on Thursday said that the staff in Baghdad's Swedish embassy are "safe" after the building was set on fire by the protesters.

"We are aware of the situation. Our embassy staff (in Iraq) are safe and the ministry is in regular contact with them," stated the ministry, in an email.

<h2>Iraq calls for urgent investigation&nbsp;</h2>

The torching of the embassy was condemned by Iraq's foreign ministry which directed the security forces to identify those responsible.

"The Iraqi government has instructed the relevant security services to conduct an urgent investigation and take all necessary measures to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify the perpetrators," said the ministry in a statement.

"What has happened is completely unacceptable and the government condemns these attacks in the strongest terms. Iraqi authorities have an unequivocal obligation to protect diplomatic missions and personnel under the Vienna Convention," Minister&nbsp;Billstrom said in a statement.

Iran on Tuesday (June 6) reopened it embassy in Saudi Arabia for the first time in seven years. The move has reaffirmed a Chinese-brokered rapprochement between two formerly antagonistic powers in West Asia. The rapprochement is likely to change the equations in the region greatly. The Iranian mission has opened its embassy in its former premises in Riyadh's diplomatic quarter. The location is near Syria's embassy, the reopening of which is expected soon following Saudi outreach to Damascus.&nbsp;

"We consider today an important day in the relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Alireza Bigdeli said at the flag-raising ceremony.

"The cooperation between the countries is entering a new era."

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restart their respective embassies in the month of March this year. Both countries resolved to work towards resuming ties. In 2016, Saudi Arabia had&nbsp;broken off relations with Iran following Iranian protests.

Iran reopens embassy in Saudi Arabia seven years after closing it over diplomatic rift

In a disheartening state of affairs, Alaweya Rishwan, the disabled wife of an 85-year-old Brit died of starvation when the UK embassy in Sudan failed to rescue the family even though they lived just across the road and had contacted the mission multiple times calling for help, as per reports.&nbsp;

The London hotel owner Abdalla Sholgami and his&nbsp;wife apparently requested the UK embassy in Sudan to fly them to the airfield from where the evacuation flights were departing.&nbsp;

Not only the embassy did not provide any help to the couple, but it also urged them to make it to the airfield on their own. The airfield, as per reports, was 40km (25 miles) outside Khartou, the capital city that has seen intense fighting in the recent past as the rival factions, the Sudanese army and the paramilitary forces, remain engaged in a power struggle.&nbsp;

Even since the conflict broke out on 15 April, the family started making calls to the embassy for support in evacuation. Their calls went unheard as Britain's Army and Royal Air Force continued with the evacuation of the UK's diplomatic staff from conflict-ridden Sudan.&nbsp;

When the situation saw no change and Sholgami's wife was starving and had no water to drink, the husband had to make a decision to go find help for her. But instead of finding help, he came under gunfire and was shot a total of three times. After being taken&nbsp;to a family member's house in another part of Khartoum, Sholgami survived however the sniper shooting inflicted&nbsp;him with injuries on his hand, chest, and lower back.&nbsp;

The family continued to seek support from the UK embassy but unfortunately, Sholgami's wife was found dead by an official from a Turkish embassy and her body still remains at the house.&nbsp;

Sholgami's granddaughter, Azhaar, said, "I was informed they had 100 troops who came and evacuated their staff. They could not cross the road? I'm still very disappointed in them."

This comes amid fears that the fighting could break the fragile United States-Saudi Arabia brokered weeklong ceasefire deal. Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IMO) said that more than a million people have been displaced within the country since the fighting began over a month ago.&nbsp;

At a time when Lebanon's economy is in shambles and the country is hit with economic collapse along with a rising humanitarian crisis, a lavish US embassy complex that is under construction is piquing the interest of commoners in the Middle Eastern nation.&nbsp;

The compound is located about 13 kilometres (about 8 miles) from the centre of Beirut. Stretching across a 43-acre site, the massive US embassy compound in Lebanon can be taken as a city of its own, as per CNN.&nbsp;

The compound which lies in the Beirut suburb of Awkar is almost two-and-a-half times the size of the White House land.&nbsp;The huge building is over 21 soccer fields in size.&nbsp;

Twitter is flooded with condemnation of the monumental building. Lebanese are raising questions over the need for this expansive complex. On February 1, a US travel advisory cautioned its citizens to reconsider travel to Lebanon due to crime, terrorism, armed conflict, civil unrest, kidnapping , and the Beirut embassy’s limited capacity to provide support to US citizens. It said that some areas have increased risk.&nbsp;

In view of the risks, not many Americans travel to the Middle East nation. However, there is a substantial population of Lebanese American residents in the country. Lebanon is home to about only 6 million people.&nbsp;

Areawise also, the country is small. As per reports, the country is stretched in an area of only 10,452 square kilometres (4,036 sq mi). It is even smaller than the US state of Connecticut which has an area of 13,023 square kilometres.

‘Let them eat concrete’: Massive new US embassy complex in Lebanon draws ire of netizens

The United States plans to open an embassy in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, the State Department said on Friday, in Washington's latest move to boost its diplomatic presence in the Pacific to counter China's growing influence.

"Consistent with the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy, a permanent diplomatic presence in Vanuatu would allow the U.S. Government to deepen relationships with Ni-Vanuatu officials and society," the department said in a statement.

"Establishing U.S. Embassy Port Vila would facilitate areas of potential bilateral cooperation and development assistance, including efforts to tackle the climate crisis," it said.

The United States has diplomatic relations with Vanuatu, which has a population of 319,000 spread across 80 islands, but is currently represented by diplomats based in New Guinea.

The United States States reopened its embassy in the Solomon Islands this year after a 30-year absence and the latest State Department announcement follows a visit this month to the region, including Vanuatu, by U.S. Indo-Pacific coordinator Kurt Campbell.

Other U.S. embassies are planned in the Pacific island nations of Kiribati and Tonga.

Despite the diplomatic push, the Solomon Islands announced this month it had awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to a Chinese state company to upgrade an international port in Honiara.

The United States and its regional allies have held concerns that China has ambitions to build a naval base in the region since the Solomon Islands struck a security pact with Beijing last year.

Washington has also been working to renew agreements with the Marshall Islands, Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) under which it retains responsibility for the islands' defense and gains exclusive access to huge swaths of the Pacific.

The Biden administration is seeking more than $7 billion over the next two decades for economic assistance to the three countries, the State Department said last week, funds seen as key to insulating them from growing Chinese influence.

US to open Vanuatu embassy in latest move to counter China in Pacific

After escaping police custody in the Indian state of Punjab on 18 March, Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh has now taken cover in the neighbouring country of Nepal and has hidden himself from the authorities, as per reports by The Kathmandu Post.&nbsp;

As per the latest reports by the media outlet, the Indian mission in Kathmandu has reached out to Nepal government urging it to not let fugitive Amritpal Singh slip into any other third country as he could be vying to evade arrest.&nbsp;

“The esteemed ministry is requested to inform the Department of Immigration not to permit Amritpal Singh to travel through Nepal for any third country and arrest him if he attempts to escape from Nepal using Indian Passport or any other fake passport under intimation to this mission.”

This transpired on the same day when a picture of Amritpal and his friend Papalpreet Singh purportedly appeared on social media. The picture has gone viral alongside those that the Indian authorities earlier released of the fugitive in order to seek help in nabbing him. In the viral picture, the&nbsp;individuals are wearing sweatshirts with Amritpal&nbsp;wearing a maroon turban and holding a beverage can.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Azerbaijan president further shared with WION his suspicions over what happened after the attack. "The terrorist was interviewed by Iranian media which demonstrates that the terrorist was sent from the Iranian establishment," he told WION.&nbsp;

And another strange thing that happened after two days, the president said was that "he (the suspected attacker) was declared as a mentally unstable person. How can they tell this so quickly? It is an attempt to protect him."

He urged the Iranian government to conduct "a transparent investigation."

After the attack, the Azerbaijan&nbsp;government had said that a security official was killed when a gunman opened fire at embassy grounds. Local police had claimed to have arrested a suspect and launched an investigation into the incident.

The diplomatic relations between Russia and Estonia were downgraded on Monday after the latter's ambassador was ordered to leave Russia, as the country was accused of "total Russophobia".

As the Estonian ambassador was expelled, the Russian foreign ministry announced on Monday that the charge d’affaires will head the diplomatic mission of the country.&nbsp;

"The ambassador of the Estonian Republic will have to leave the Russian Federation on February 7," the foreign ministry said in a statement, adding that the diplomatic representation of Estonia will also be downgraded from now.&nbsp;

The ministry added that the step was taken in retaliation for Estonia’s “new unfriendly step to radically reduce the size of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn.”

“In recent years, the Estonian leadership has purposefully destroyed the entire range of relations with Russia. Total Russophobia, the cultivation of hostility towards our country have been elevated by Tallinn to the rank of state policy,” read the statement issued by the Russian foreign ministry on Monday.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, the Estonian foreign ministry asked Russia to cut down the number of staff present in the embassy to eight diplomats and 15 technical, service and administrative staff members to “reach parity in embassy staff” by February 1.

Two unidentified gunmen had attacked Charge d’Affaires Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani while he was strolling in the compound of the Pakistan embassy. His guard suffered critical injuries in the attack.

The injured guard was lifted by the helicopter and is now receiving treatment in the hospital. Pakistan had summoned Afghanistan’s Charge d’Affaires on Friday and had conveyed to him its concern over the attack on the embassy.

According to Mercedes Gonzalez, a representative of the central government in Madrid, the letter that had been sent via ordinary mail detonated as the guard opened it on the embassy grounds. "Fortunately it was not serious, the person has a small injury to his right hand. The letter was addressed to the ambassador," she stated in an interview with Telemadrid TV.

According to a police source, the individual "went himself to a hospital" for treatment after suffering "light" injuries. The explosion at the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid was reported to Spain's National Police force at around 1:00 pm (1200 GMT), the source continued.&nbsp;

The source claimed without going into further detail that police had started an inquiry "which includes the participation of forensic police." Police established a security perimeter around the embassy, which is situated in a quiet neighbourhood in northern Madrid.

A resident of the area in front of the embassy who wished to remain unnamed told AFP that after going outside to walk his dogs, police were now stopping him from going back inside. He claimed, "I heard it, I thought it was a gunshot, it was not too loud."&nbsp;

Kuwait said it handed the charge d'affaires a memorandum stating its rejection of what was published and stressing the need for the embassy to respect the laws and regulations in force in the State of Kuwait and the obligation not to publish such tweets.

Homosexuality is punishable by law in a number of majority Muslim countries, includingKuwait.&nbsp;

But in February Kuwait's constitutional court overturned a law that criminalises "imitation of the opposite sex" in a move Amnesty International said was a breakthrough for transgender rights in the region.

The US embassies in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates also shared similar posts marking Pride Month.

The U.S Embassy in Saudi Arabia published on June 1 a tweet that included support for the LGBTQI+ community, saying: "During #Pride2022, @StateDept celebrates the contributions members of the LGBTQI+ community make to our nation. We are committed to ending violence, discrimination, and stigma against LGBTQI+ persons worldwide".

"We wanted to make a small, symbolic statement in support of Ukraine," Taylor told Fox 5. &nbsp;

"The President Zelensky Way street sign is just our way of peacefully protesting Putin's atrocities and honouring Ukraine," Taylor told the Hill. &nbsp;

In 2018, the DC Council named the street 'Boris Nemtsov Place' in remembrance of the outspoken critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose killing the Kremlin denies having any part in. &nbsp;

Earlier, the department had told the families of US Embassy staffers in Kyiv to leave the country. But it had also left it to the discretion of non-essential personnel if they wanted to depart or not. &nbsp;&nbsp;

A limited number of diplomats of the US may be relocated to Ukraine's far west, along the border with NATO ally Poland, so that the US could retain a diplomatic presence in the country, the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said. &nbsp;&nbsp;
