This development comes days after Justin Trudeau stepped down from the post of Canadian Prime Minister and Liberal Party leader. Shortly after his resignation, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, saying, "Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this and resigned. If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Trump on Wednesday also shared a distorted map of the United States, which showed Canada as part of America alongside the caption "Oh Canada!&rdquo;

'Girl, you’re no longer governor...': Musk slams Trudeau for rejecting Trump's Canada-US 'merger' pitch

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Wednesday (Jan 8) that the billionaire owner of social media platform X, Elon Musk "openly attacks our institutions" and "stirs up hatred". The statement came during a speech for the start of official commemorations on the 50th anniversary of dictator Francisco Franco's death.
This came after France called on the European Commission to take a strong stance and safeguard its member states with "the greatest firmness" against interference in political debates, specifically from Musk.
"Either the European Commission applies with the greatest firmness the laws that we have given ourselves to protect our public space, or it does not do so and then it will have to agree to give back the capacity to do so to the EU member states," Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told France Inter radio.
This came after several European leaders expressed growing frustration against the tech mogul. The leaders included French President Emmanuel Macron, who said that Musk was "directly intervening in elections".
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also condemned the Tesla CEO for backing an extreme-right party.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store expressed concerns saying that it was "worrying" that someone wealthy and influential was involving themselves in European politics.

<h2>Meloni defends Musk</h2>
While most European leaders were lashing out at Musk, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has come out in support of the billionaire.
Calling him a "genius", Meloni said that Musk is a "gifted man" and that he has been unfairly portrayed as a &ldquo;monster&rdquo; due to his ties with US President-elect Donald Trump.
&ldquo;Elon Musk is a gifted man and it is always very interesting to meet him,&rdquo; Meloni told Corriere Della Sera. &ldquo;He is a great figure of our times, an extraordinary innovator who has always had his gaze fixed on the future."
&ldquo;It makes me laugh a bit that there are people who used to praise him as a genius but today depict him as a monster, just because he has chosen the &lsquo;wrong' political camp, as they see it,&rdquo; she remarked.

Elon Musk's father, Errol Musk, urges Brits to ‘ignore him’. Here's why

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?title=meta" rel="dofollow">Meta </a>CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday (Jan 7) announced that the company will be making some changes to the moderation policies and practices, citing its aim to embrace free speech.&nbsp;
The company will be altering the way posts, videos, and other content are moderated online. It will be getting rid of fact-checkers and will replace them with user-generated "Community notes", which is similar to Elon Musk's X.&nbsp;
This comes just weeks ahead of Donald Trump takes office. US President-elect Trump and other Republicans have been slamming Meta CEO for what they view as censorship of right-wing voices.&nbsp;

&ldquo;Fact-checkers have been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they&rsquo;ve created,&rdquo; Zuckerberg said in a video on Tuesday.&nbsp;
&ldquo;What started as a movement to be more inclusive has increasingly been used to shut down opinions and shut out people with different ideas, and it&rsquo;s gone too far," he added.&nbsp;
However, he acknowledged a "tradeoff" in the new policy, noting more harmful content will appear on the platform as a result of the content moderation changes.

He further pointed to the election as a major influence on the company's decision and criticised "governments and legacy media" for allegedly pushing "to censor more and more."
"The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards, once again, prioritizing speech," he said.

World, science & tech: Meta will be altering the way content is moderated online and will be getting rid of fact-checkers, replacing them with "community notes".

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday (Jan 7) announced that the company will be making some changes to the moderation policies and practices, citing its aim to embrace free speech. The company will be altering the way posts, videos, and other content are moderated online. It will be getting rid of fact-checkers and will replace them with user-generated "Community notes", which is similar to Elon Musk's X. This comes just weeks ahead of Donald Trump takes office. US President-elect Trump and other Republicans have been slamming Meta CEO for what they view as censorship of right-wing voices. However, he acknowledged a "tradeoff" in the new policy, noting more harmful content will appear on the platform as a result of the content moderation changes. After Germany, France accuses Elon Musk of 'direct intervention' in elections; Norway PM terms it 'worrying'

A strange conspiracy theory has been debunked that an account on the social media platform X claiming to be a fan of Elon Musk is actually the billionaire himself. A journalist named Jacqueline Sweet revealed in her article published in the UK magazine The Spectator that the account belongs to a man living in Fiji.&nbsp;
Just after her claim was published, Sweet said on Sunday (Jan 5) that her account on X (platform owned by Musk) had been suspended.&nbsp;

It was revealed that the account under the name Adrian Dittmann belongs to a man of the same name who is a businessman in Fiji and an admirer of Musk. Dittmann regularly posts in favour of Musk and even has a similar voice to the Tesla CEO. He also has been engaged with Musk on conservations on various X "Spaces" and has said that he does not desire to reveal much about him, fearing people will come after him for posts praising Musk.&nbsp;
After Sweet posted a link to her story on X saying that Musk was not Dittmann, the billionaire replied strangely, saying, &ldquo;I am Adrian Dittmann. It&rsquo;s time the world knew." It was Musk's sarcasm or he was serious, nobody knows.&nbsp;

Sweet informed about the suspension of her X account on a rival social media platform called Bluesky. She claimed that her post was taken down and the account has been suspended for 30 days. She further posted some screenshots of the message she received from X that claimed the reason behind Sweet's account suspension was her post that violates X's rules. The platform said the issue is related to "Posting Private Information.&rdquo;
"I think Elon is mad I ruined his stupid game of laughing at his critics who believe Adrian Dittmann is his alt and took his toys and went home,&rdquo; Sweet said on Bluesky.&nbsp;

UK PM Keir Starmer slams Elon Musk for spreading 'lies and misinformation'; X boss reacts

Elon Musk has called for Nigel Farage to quit as leader of Britain's right-wing Reform UK Party in an abrupt withdrawal of support by the US billionaire for the Brexit campaigner.

Elon Musk withdraws support for Nigel Farage, says he should quit as Reform party leader

Elon Musk on Sunday aimed his trigger at <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/nigel-farage-ready-to-work-with-peter-mandelson-to-secure-trade-deal-with-trump-786621">Nigel Farage</a>, saying he &ldquo;doesn&rsquo;t have what it takes&rdquo; to lead Reform UK. Musk's comments came just hours after Farage refrained from condemning the X boss for controversial comments about Keir Starmer and Jess Phillips.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote, &ldquo;The Reform party needs a new leader. Farage doesn&rsquo;t have what it takes.&rdquo;
Recently, the two men reportedly met at Donald Trump&rsquo;s Florida residence amid speculation that Musk might contribute $100 million (&pound;80 million) to the Reform party. It is not unclear why Musk has reversed his stance on Farage&rsquo;s leadership.

Before Musk&rsquo;s comments, Farage appeared on BBC One&rsquo;s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, where he hailed Musk for promoting free speech on social media since acquiring X.
Farage said, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t agree with everything he stands for, but I do believe in free speech. I think he&rsquo;s a hero.&rdquo; He added, &ldquo;Free speech is back. You may find it offensive, but it&rsquo;s a good thing, not a bad thing.&rdquo;
Musk had previously referred to Jess Phillips as a &ldquo;rape genocide apologist&rdquo; and accused UK PM <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/musk-vs-starmer-x-boss-wants-king-charles-to-oust-uk-govt-amid-grooming-gangs-row-8590618">Keir Starmer</a> of being &ldquo;complicit in the rape of Britain.&rdquo;
Earlier, Farage described Musk&rsquo;s comments as &ldquo;very, very tough terms&rdquo; but argued they were only problematic if they incited violence. &ldquo;In public life, tough things get said. The left has made similar attacks on the right for decades and will continue to do so,&rdquo; Farage said.

Farage defended Musk&rsquo;s criticism of Starmer, pointing to the Labour leader&rsquo;s time as director of public prosecutions (DPP) before entering politics. &ldquo;What he&rsquo;s referring to is that in 2008, when Keir Starmer had just been appointed DPP, a case involving the alleged mass rape of young girls did not result in prosecution,&rdquo; Farage explained. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know the full details, but if you believe in free speech, people are entitled to their opinions.&rdquo;
Farage also dismissed suggestions that his reluctance to criticise Musk was linked to the possibility of Musk donating to Reform UK. While admitting that Musk &ldquo;may well&rdquo; offer financial support.

Also read: ‘Don’t feed the troll’: German Chancellor Scholz dismisses Elon Musk’s attacks and AfD endorsement Farage defended Musk’s criticism of Starmer, pointing to the Labour leader’s time as director of public prosecutions (DPP) before entering politics. “What he’s referring to is that in 2008, when Keir Starmer had just been appointed DPP, a case involving the alleged mass rape of young girls did not result in prosecution,” Farage explained. “I don’t know the full details, but if you believe in free speech, people are entitled to their opinions.” Farage also dismissed suggestions that his reluctance to criticise Musk was linked to the possibility of Musk donating to Reform UK. Nigel Farage's 'hero' Elon Musk thinks he 'doesn’t have what it takes' to lead Reform UK

German Chancellor <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/germany-accuses-elon-musk-of-trying-to-influence-elections-with-afd-endorsements-8578786">Olaf Scholz</a> has dismissed recent insults directed at him and other German leaders by Elon Musk, calling the X boss a "troll." In an interview with the German weekly Stern, Scholz said, "Don&rsquo;t feed the troll," when asked about Musk&rsquo;s comments.
Scholz said, &ldquo;You have to stay cool. As Social Democrats, we have long been used to the fact that there are rich media entrepreneurs who do not appreciate social democratic politics &ndash; and do not hide their opinions.&rdquo;
<h2>'The rule is: don&rsquo;t feed the troll'</h2>
The chancellor also made it clear he had no intention of engaging with Musk. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t believe in courting Mr Musk&rsquo;s favour. I&rsquo;m happy to leave that to others,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;The rule is: don&rsquo;t feed the troll.&rdquo;

Musk has publicly endorsed the far-right Alternative f&uuml;r Deutschland (AfD) party ahead of Germany's federal elections in February and is set to host a live discussion with the party&rsquo;s chancellor candidate, Alice Weidel, on his social media platform, X.&nbsp;
&ldquo;What I find much more worrying than such insults is that Musk is supporting a party like the AfD, which is in parts right-wing extremist, which preaches rapprochement with Putin&rsquo;s Russia and wants to weaken transatlantic relations,&rdquo; Scholz said.
Musk has been vocal in his criticism of Germany&rsquo;s leadership, referring to federal president Frank-Walter Steinmeier as an &ldquo;anti-democratic tyrant&rdquo; last month.&nbsp;

Scholz responded to that comment during the interview, saying, &ldquo;The German president is not an anti-democratic tyrant, and Germany is a strong and stable democracy&mdash;never mind what Mr Musk says. In Germany, the will of the citizens prevails, not the erratic comments of a billionaire from the USA.&rdquo;
The billionaire has also taken aim at Scholz personally. Following the collapse of Scholz&rsquo;s centre-left coalition in November, Musk called the chancellor a &ldquo;fool&rdquo; on X. More recently, Musk said, &ldquo;Chancellor Oaf Schitz or whatever his name is will lose.&rdquo;
Musk argued that the party was unfairly labelled as extremist, pointing to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/german-president-dissolves-parliament-national-election-expected-on-feb-23-8570685">Alice Weidel&rsquo;s</a> personal life as evidence: &ldquo;The portrayal of the AfD as right-wing extremist is clearly false, considering that Alice Weidel, the party&rsquo;s leader, has a same-sex partner from Sri Lanka! Elon Musk calls for Keir Starmer's resignation over rape gang scandal

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/uk-litmus-test-for-starmers-leadership">Sir Keir Starmer</a> has been accused of being "as guilty as anyone" for not addressing grooming gangs during his time as director of public prosecutions by the whistleblower who helped expose the abuse scandal, The Telegraph reported.&nbsp;
Maggie Oliver, a former detective with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that she had no faith in the prime minister&rsquo;s commitment to uncovering the truth.&nbsp;

In the past few days, Musk has posted a series of comments claiming that Starmer failed to prosecute child rapists during his tenure at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) between 2008 and 2013.&nbsp;
Musk also criticised safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, alleging she rejected Oldham Council's requests for an inquiry to shield Sir Keir.
Musk, in a post on X, suggested that Jess Phillips &ldquo;deserves to be in prison&rdquo; for opposing calls for a national inquiry into the Oldham abuse scandal. On Friday, Musk also backed the idea of holding a UK general election, despite the most recent one being only six months ago.
He reposted a post that urged King Charles to dissolve the government, &ldquo;The King must step in. We can&rsquo;t have Keir heading the country, while he was the one heading the Crown Prosecution Service [CPS] while all this was happening.&rdquo; Musk replied to the post with a simple &ldquo;Yes.&rdquo;&nbsp;

These gangs, composed mainly of South Asian Muslim men, abused thousands of vulnerable girls in towns such as Rotherham, Rochdale, and Telford. Investigations have previously revealed that authorities, including police and local councils, failed to act, fearing accusations of racism or Islamophobia.
There are increasing demands for a statutory national inquiry to probe broader systemic failures. During Keir&rsquo;s term as director of public prosecutions, the CPS dropped a case against a rape suspect despite strong evidence. Sir Keir has since admitted that vulnerable girls were let down under his watch.

Musk vs Starmer: X boss wants King Charles to oust UK govt amid grooming gangs row

American automobile major, Tesla, reported its first annual sales decline on Thursday. This is the first time the company has reported a full-year drop in its sales since it went public.&nbsp;
<h2>Sales numbers</h2>
In the fourth quarter, Tesla sold 495,570 vehicles, a two per cent increase from the previous year. However, this figure fell short of the 595,413 EVs sold by Chinese EV manufacturer BYD during the same period.

Tesla retained its position as the world&rsquo;s largest EV maker in 2024, delivering 1.8 million vehicles&mdash;24,000 more than BYD's annual total.
Despite its leading position, Tesla's annual sales dropped 1 per cent compared to 2023. This marked a significant slowdown from its earlier growth, including a 37 per cent rise in 2023. The company previously reported annual sales growth rate at nearly 50 per cent.
<h2>Rising competition</h2>
Tesla is currently facing rising competition from both Chinese automakers like BYD and traditional global players, including General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Kia.&nbsp;
While these legacy automakers remain focused on gasoline-powered vehicles, their increasing investments in EVs are putting pressure on Tesla.

In response to declining demand, Tesla has reduced vehicle prices in key markets such as the United States and China. However, the company remains more profitable than its competitors, who are still incurring losses on their EV offerings as they scale production.
Overall EV sales continue to grow globally but at a slower rate than previous years.
Tesla shares fell by over 4 per cent following the weak sales report but ended 2024 up 68 per cent. Much of the gain occurred post-Election Day, as investors speculated on favourable policies under the incoming Trump administration, supported by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The wife of Matthew Livelsberger, who blew up a Tesla Cybertruck packed with fireworks outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday (January 1), broke up with him six days ago before he killed himself inside the truck, American media reported on Thursday.&nbsp;
Livelsberger, a Green Beret (member of US Army special forces), shot himself in the head just before detonation. The explosion caused minor injuries to seven people. Livelsberger was 37 at the time of his death.

Sources said that Livelsberger's wife told him that she knew he had been cheating on her. The two (Livelsberger and his wife) were parents to a baby girl.&nbsp;
The report said that with this development, investigators were now probing whether the 37-year-old's motive was personal rather than political as previously considered given the location of the detonation and the choice of the vehicle.
Earlier, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had been looking into the possibility that the bombing was political as the explosion happened outside President-elect Donald Trump's hotel and inside a vehicle made by Trump's close ally Elon Musk.
But, this would not be the case as Livelsberger was a staunch Trump supporter.&nbsp;
<h2>'If Livelsberger had used a normal vehicle...'</h2>
Sources also told the New York Post that if Livelsberger had used a normal vehicle (instead of a Cybertruck), the explosion would have likely taken out the glass doors of the Trump International Hotel and possibly the lobby- potentially killing innocent bystanders.

Following an argument with his wife, Livelsberger rented the Cybertruck and bought the fireworks and weapons.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has opened a new front of attack against British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, this time accusing him of failing to bring to justice 'rape gangs' when Starmer was the head of the country's prosecution service.
In a series of posts on his social media platform X, Musk said on Thursday (Jan 2), "In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service's (CPS) approval for the police to charge suspects."

"Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013," Musk added. For those who don't know, the answer is Starmer.&nbsp;
Apart from Musk, British lawmakers including former prime minister Liz Truss and author JK Rowling also condemned the crimes being committed by rape gangs.

"The horrific failings on rape gangs show the complete lack of accountability in British criminal justice. The proper role of Lord Chancellor needs to be restored (to its pre-2005 state), and the judiciary should be accountable to them," Truss said in a post on X on Wednesday.&nbsp;
<h2>The rape gangs or grooming gangs in UK</h2>
For several years, there has been systematic rape of young females in the UK by organised gangs, including those in Rotherham, Bristol, Rochdale, Cornwall, and Derbyshire. Many of these gangs were operated by mainly Pakistan-origin men.&nbsp;
Musk's remarks against Prime Minister Starmer came hours after Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch called for a full national public inquiry into the rape gangs scandal.

"Trials have taken place all over the country in recent years but no one in authority has joined the dots. 2025 must be the year that the victims start to get justice," Badenoch said in a post on X.
<h2>The Rotherham scandal</h2>
The scandal in Rotherham is perhaps one of the world's worst sexual exploitation scandals involving girls as young as 12 years old.&nbsp;

In a series of posts on X, Elon Musk criticised the Keir Starmer-led government in the UK for not launching an inquiry for the gang rape of "innocent little girls."

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has opened a new front of attack against British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, this time accusing him of failing to bring to justice 'rape gangs' when Starmer was the head of the country's prosecution service. In a series of posts on his social media platform X, Musk said on Thursday (Jan 2), "In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service's (CPS) approval for the police to charge suspects." Keir Starmer, 2008-2013," Musk added. For those who don't know, the answer is Starmer. Apart from Musk, British lawmakers including former prime minister Liz Truss and author JK Rowling also condemned the crimes being committed by rape gangs. No UK government inquiry for the gang rape of innocent little girls, but £22M spent on an obviously violent lunatic. Shame, shame, shame. https://t.co/PwN6lL9w3u — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 3, 2025 "The horrific failings on rape gangs show the complete lack of accountability in British criminal justice. The proper role of Lord Chancellor needs to be restored (to its pre-2005 state), and the judiciary should be accountable to them," Truss said in a post on X on Wednesday. The rape gangs or grooming gangs in UK For several years, there has been systematic rape of young females in the UK by organised gangs, including those in Rotherham, Bristol, Rochdale, Cornwall, and Derbyshire. Many of these gangs were operated by mainly Pakistan-origin men. Musk's remarks against Prime Minister Starmer came hours after Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch called for a full national public inquiry into the rape gangs scandal. Elon Musk accuses UK PM Keir Starmer of failing to bring 'rape gangs' to justice

Elon Musk has come under fire from UK politicians after publicly supporting far-right figure Tommy Robinson, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
Musk, who owns the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), pinned a post on his account saying &ldquo;Free Tommy Robinson!&rdquo; and tagged Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. Robinson is serving an 18-month sentence for contempt of court after making false claims about a Syrian refugee.

Musk also accused Jess Phillips of negligence, saying she &ldquo;deserved to be in prison.&rdquo; In another post, he wrote, &ldquo;Who is the boss of Jess Phillips right now? Keir Stamer. ‘Free Tommy Robinson’: Elon Musk demands release of jailed UK far-right leader; slams PM Starmer

Turo, a peer-to-peer car sharing platform based in San Fransico, is under scrutiny following two fatal incidents involving vehicles rented through the service. Authorities confirmed that vehicles involved in a deadly attack in New Orleans and an explosion in Las Vegas were rented via Turo.
<h2 class="p1">Understanding Turo</h2>
Turo is a platform that enables private car owners to rent out their vehicles to others. Established in 2010 as 'RelayRides' and rebranded in 2015, the service connects renters with trusted hosts. Unlike traditional car rental services, Turo does not own the vehicles on its platform but operates as a marketplace for peer-to-peer rentals. Users must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver&rsquo;s license, and provide personal information for verification. The service offers several vehicle pickup options, including in-person, delivery, or app-based keyless access.
<h2 class="p1">Turo and the recent incidents</h2>
In New Orleans, Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a Ford F-150 Lightning truck into a New Year celebrations crowd on Bourbon Street, resulting in 15 deaths and injuries to over 30. The vehicle had been rented through Turo. The company has confirmed its cooperation with the FBI in the ongoing investigation.

A Turo spokesperson stated, "We are heartbroken to learn that one of our host&rsquo;s vehicles was involved in this awful incident. We are actively partnering with the FBI. At the time of the reservation, there was nothing in Jabbar&rsquo;s background that would have flagged him as a safety risk."
In Las Vegas, a Tesla Cybertruck rented via Turo exploded near the Trump Hotel. The vehicle, which contained fireworks and gasoline, detonated in the valet area, killing the driver and injuring seven others. Authorities confirmed that this vehicle was also rented through Turo, but investigations have not linked the two incidents.
<h2 class="p1">Company response</h2>
Turo issued a statement to NewsNation, expressing condolences to those affected. The company clarified that the Ford F-150 Lightning involved in the New Orleans attack belonged to a host on the platform. It also reiterated that there were no safety flags in Jabbar&rsquo;s background at the time of the reservation. Turo emphasised its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement in addressing any safety concerns related to these incidents.

What is Turo, the car-sharing app used in New Orleans attack and cybertruck blast in Las Vegas?

U.S. authorities are investigating any possible connection between the attack in New Orleans, which left 15 people dead, and the explosion of a Cybertruck outside a Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, where one person died. Elon Musk, who owns Tesla, the company that produces the Cybertruck, has also suggested a potential link between the two incidents.
Musk claimed that both vehicles were rented using the same app. At least one person was killed and several others wounded when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside a hotel owned by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in Las Vegas.

FBI Probes Possible Link Between New Orleans Attack And Cybertruck Blast

Billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday (Jan 2) sparked yet another controversy as he called out FBI's New Orleans division over a social media post where the agents can be seen wearing Taylor Swift-themed friendship bracelets.
The Tesla CEO took to his official X handle and reshared a post by Senator Marsha Blackburn in which she wrote, "This is what the FBI New Orleans has been doing," alongside the image of the agents donning bracelets.
"Return the FBI to its mission of investigating criminals and terrorists," she added.

This comes in the wake of a deadly attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day, where a man drove his pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street at approximately 3:15 am on Wednesday (Jan 1), killing 15 people.
New Orleans Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick described the driver as being &ldquo;hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did.&rdquo; She further added that the driver&rsquo;s intention appeared to be to &ldquo;run over as many people as he could.&rdquo; Additionally, two police officers were shot by the suspect, but both are now in stable condition.
The FBI said that the suspect died following a gunfight with the police. After the truck came to a stop, the driver opened fire on officers, who returned fire, leading to his death.

<h2>'Attacker inspired by ISIS'</h2>
The driver has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar who reportedly was inspired by Islamic State as an ISIS flag was found in his vehicle and he also posted some videos on social media expressing a desire to kill hours before the incident took place.
United States President Joe Biden said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) found ISIS-inspired videos that Jabbar posted on social media where he expressed a desire to kill
"The FBI also reported to me that mere hours before the attack, he posted videos on social media indicating that he was inspired by ISIS, expressing a desire to kill. The ISIS flag was found in his vehicle which he rented to conduct this attack. Possible explosives were found in the vehicle as well, and more explosives were found nearby...The investigation is continuing to be active and no one should jump to conclusions," Biden said.

<h2>Elon Musk reacts</h2>
Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday (Jan 1) said that both Cybertruck and F-150 suicide bomb incidents seem to be linked and look like acts of terrorism.
He said in a post on X that the explosion was "caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck," and that it was "unrelated to the vehicle itself."

&ldquo;Appears likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo. Perhaps they are linked in some way,&rdquo; Musk wrote in a post on X.
Earlier, he said the "whole Tesla senior team" was investigating the blast, adding: "We've never seen anything like this."
The incident comes hours after a truck rammed a crowd in New Orleans, claiming the lives of at least 15 and wounding dozens of others.
<h2>Musk backs Cybertruck build quality, says 'picked the wrong vehicle for terrorist attack'</h2>
The Tesla CEO later in a post lauded the build quality of his company's cybertruck saying the "evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack".
"The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken," he wrote on X.

US President Joe Biden said that the authorities were investigating a possible link between the blast and the New Orleans attack.

In a shocking incident, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside US President-elect Donald Trump's hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday (Jan 1) killing at least one. The authorities are investigating the incident as a possible act of terror. The electric car arrived at the Trump International Hotel's glass entrance moments before it burst into flames. The footage of the incident shows the vehicle parked at the hotel entrance before the large explosion occurred. Tesla Cybertruck explodes outside Trump hotel in Las Vegas, incident being probed as possible terror act

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has updated his X, formerly known as Twitter, and changed his name from "Elon Musk" to "Kekius Maximus". Watch to know more.

Elon Musk Changes His Name On X To 'Kekius Maximus'

In a surprise move, billionaire Elon Musk altered his profile name on X to &ldquo;Kekius Maximus&rdquo; on Tuesday (Dec 31) which sparked a flurry of reactions from his followers on social media.
He also changed his profile avatar to an image of the popular character, Pepe the Frog, clad in Roman attire and holding a video game joystick.
This sudden change of tech mogul's username and password sparked chaos in the cryptocurrency market, causing the value of a meme coin sharing the same name to surge dramatically.
Netizens were seen looking for answers, asking questions about whether the change was only for laughs or was another trick by US President-elect Donald Trump's confidant to shake up the cryptocurrency markets.

<h2>Decoding 'Kekius Maximus'</h2>
Musk watchers on the internet have suggested that the new username and avatar appear to be a mix of "Maximus Decimus Meridius", a Roman general played by Russell Crowe in the 2000 hit movie "Gladiator", whereas "kek" is an expression that is widely used by trollers online as an alternate for "LOL" (laugh out loud).
"Kek" is also a reference to a "virtual white nationalist god," said the news agency AFP citing the nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Pepe the Frog is a cartoon character from the "Boy's Club" comic series.
This popular comic character was associated with the alt-right and white supremacists, with the Anti-Defamation League dubbing it a "hate symbol" during Trump's first tenure as the POTUS.
"The majority of uses of Pepe the Frog have been, and continue to be, non-bigoted," the ADL wrote on its website.
However, as it went viral, the meme was centred on "racist, antisemitic or other bigoted themes," the ADL added.
"Manipulators can twist anything to give a wink and a nod to a sub-culture of online hate while claiming ignorance," the SPLC said.
"The use of the meme and name is indicative of the continued online culture that claims hateful ideas are simply jokes. Hate is not a joke."
Musk before giving a new look to his profile, posted a teaser on X saying, "Kekius Maximus will soon reach level 80 in hardcore PoE."
