The United States Department of Energy Secretary, has ruled out the possibility of the United States Navy escorting commercial tankers through the Strait of Hormuz despite rising tensions in the region. The decision comes amid growing security concerns for global shipping routes during the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

US Energy Secretary Rules Out Navy Escorts in Strait of Hormuz

As the US–Iran war 2026 escalates, Iran’s strategy of threatening or disrupting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has become a major challenge for Washington. The narrow waterway carries nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply, making it one of the most critical energy chokepoints globally.

US-Iran War: Does Trump Have a Counter for Iran's Hormuz Strategy?

Amid the escalating US-Iran war, Donald Trump sparked controversy after joking about the destruction of Iranian naval vessels. Speaking to Republican lawmakers, Trump said he had asked U.S. military officials why Iranian ships were sunk instead of captured. According to him, an official replied that it was “more fun to sink them,” prompting laughter in the room. The remarks came as the United States Navy continues operations against Iranian naval assets during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The comments have triggered criticism from analysts and officials, who say the rhetoric risks escalating tensions further.

The boat strike saw the US hit the vessel a second time, killing two people who had survived a previous hit. ‘Practically nothing left to target in Iran, war will end soon,’ says Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran against planting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Trump said any attempt to disrupt oil flows through the waterway would trigger severe consequences from the United States.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, with nearly 20% of global oil shipments passing through the narrow corridor connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea.

"If the World Cup is like this, who in their right mind would send their national team to a place like this?" the country's football defedration chief said. "How could one be optimistic about the World Cup that is supposed to be held in America?"

The Aussie government gave the asylum to five Iranian players including captain Zahra Ghanbari. Iran football federation chief Mehedi Taj, blaming the US government for incident, targetted US president Trump.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran is likely to end “very soon,” claiming American forces are far ahead of schedule in achieving their military objectives.

After over a year of mounting rhetoric about “funding Putin's war” and imposing tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Mar 10) took a U-turn on Moscow's energy exports, stating that Washington will waive some sanctions to boost supply and bring down prices due to upheaval in the global energy market caused by the war in West Asia. This move came as the war in West Asia entered its 11th day, causing upheaval in energy markets across the world as global oil prices jumped above $100 per barrel for the first time since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, marking more than a 50 per cent increase since the start of joint US-Israeli military strikes in Iran on February 28, which resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of the campaign. “We're also waiving certain oil-related sanctions to reduce prices,” Trump told reporters after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that, “We're going to take those sanctions off till this straightens out.” The Trump administration also took a U-turn on India after subjecting it to 25 per cent additional tariffs for months over the purchase of Russian oil. A top Iranian security official has threatened US President Donald Trump, telling him, "Be careful not to get eliminated." Reacting to Trump's statement that Iran would be hit "TWENTY TIMES HARDER” if Tehran stopped oil coming through the Strait of Hormuz, Ali Larijani wrote, “The sacrificial nation of Iran doesn’t fear your empty threats. Even those bigger than you couldn’t eliminate Iran. Be careful not to get eliminated yourself.” Larijani is Iran's Supreme National Security Council chief and is assumed to have taken a central role after Ali Khamenei's death. The Iran war started with the US and Israel launching missiles on the country on February 28, which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. On Monday, Trump gave a confusing message about the end of the war, saying the war will be a “short-term excursion” and end "very soon". However, he went on to warn Iran with bigger attacks if it continued to block shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Notably, the move has caused a major spike in oil prices as Brent crude, the international benchmark, topped out at $119 a barrel. “I will not allow a terrorist regime to hold the world hostage and attempt to stop the globe’s oil supply. And if Iran does anything to do that, they’ll get hit at a much, much harder level,” the US president said. Also Read: Pete Hegseth calls it 'most intense day of strikes' as Iran records lowest attack in 24 hours https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-iran-war-video-indicates-us-missile-hit-girls-school-in-minab-1773147554177/embed
Death toll and latest on Iran war
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth also threatened to hit Iran “harder than ever” if it keeps blocking oil flow through the strait. He also said that “today will be the most intense day” of the US war on Iran. "Today will be yet again our most intense day of strikes inside Iran. The most fighters, the most bombers, the most strikes. Intelligence more refined, and better than ever." The BBC reported more strikes in the Iranian city of Karaj. Two explosions were reported in Tehran following a warning by the Israeli military that it had started a fresh wave of strikes. The number of people killed in Iran since the start of the war stands at 1,332, including 206 women and children, according to Iranian government officials.

Ali Larijani, an Iranian security official, has warned Trump to watch out and "be careful not to get eliminated." He threatened the US president, responding to his fear tactic to get the Strait of Hormuz reopened, a closure that has sent oil prices soaring.

A FBI memo in the Epstein Files released by the Department of Justice last week has references to an incident in which a 16-year-old-girl being harassed by Epstein as he was talking to Donald Trump. The girl whose name is redacted was from Chile and brought up in a middle-class family in Queens. She revealed this information in an interview with the FBI on July 8, 2020. These are part of the 40,000- 50,000 new files released and has references to other interviews where a girl bit Donald Trump in his genitals as he was forcing oral sex from him. It is unclear the duration of the call, how she figured out the other person in the call was Donald Trump. The victim supposedly broke off relations with Epstein at the age of 19, when she went to seek a job in his office. “Victim went to his office once to tell him that she wanted a job. Victim was approximately 19 years old. EPSTEIN grabbed breasts, gave her $100, and told her to bring him girls, and that's how she could make money.” The victim then never returned, eventhough Epstein's assistant tried to contact her. According to him, he has been completely exonerated. “These are completely baseless accusations, backed by zero credible evidence, from a sadly disturbed woman who has an extensive criminal history,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. This was among the new releases of the Epstein Files; the DOJ didn't publish them initially, as these had references to US President Donald Trump. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing and association with Jeffrey Epstein.

Newly released Epstein files include an FBI memo referencing a call allegedly involving Donald Trump during an encounter with Jeffrey Epstein and a minor. The White House has dismissed the allegations as baseless.

Amid the ongoing US‑Iran war, U.S. President Donald Trump sparked controversy by suggesting that Iran might possess Tomahawk cruise missiles in a broader “blame game” over a deadly strike on a girls’ school in the Iranian city of Minab. Trump’s comments came as he faced questions about video evidence showing a Tomahawk missile.

US-Iran War: US President Now Claims Iran Has Tomahawks in Blame Game

US President Donald Trump and the Pentagon are offering differing opinions on the progress of "Operation Epic Fury" and the possibility of the end of the conflict. On the other hand, Iran is determined to drag out the war as long as possible to hurt the GCC countries and make the global economy bleed. US President Donald Trump on Monday said that the “excursion” is "very much complete". He claimed that the US has achieved ‘major strides’ in achieving its objectives in Iran. When asked when will the war in Iran end, he said ”very soon".On the contrary, a Department of War run social media account, posted that, “We have Only Just Begun to Fight,” along side picture of missile with word ”No Mercy" superimposed on it.When asked about the contradiction between the statement Trump and his Defence Secretary, he said, “it could be both”. He claimed that its a new begining for the country. Then he again claimed that they have reduced the capability of Iran to launch an offensive, Iran has “no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”

Q: You said the war is 'very complete.' But your defense secretary says 'this is just the beginning.' So which is it?
Trump and Rubio offered conflicting reasons for entering into war
This contradiction between Trump and his Defence Secretary, Secretary of State has been characteristic of the “Operation Epic Fury”. It has happened from the very beginning of the US war on Iran, which Trump now calls an “incursion”. Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that the US had information to believe Israel would launch an attack on Iran, and in retaliation, Iran would target US military assets in the region. So the US attacked preemptively."We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action; we knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties," said Rubio. On the contrary, Trump denied these claims, saying that, “I might have forced their (Israel's) hand”. He further added that he had a "feeling" those “lunatics” (Iran) will launch an attack against the US.Also Read: CENTCOM claims 5,000 targets hit in Iran during first 10 days of ‘Operation Epic Fury’, releases strike video

Trump and Hegseth gave conflicting accounts of the double-tap bombing at the Minab girls' school
On February 28, at the early hours of the attack at the Minab girls' school. The US forces struck the Minab Girls' school twice, 40 minutes apart, killing more than 150 children and staff members. These kinds of double-tap attacks on civilian infrastructure are considered War Crime by the United Nations. When at first confronted by reporters, Pete Hegseth said, “We are investigating”.Then Trump claimed that the missile was from Iran, who have poor accuracy with its munitions. But when asked by Hegseth, he again said, “We are investigating”, further adding that only people who kill civilians are Iranians. When confronted with the fact that no one other than Trump is saying that, even his Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, standing on his shoulder, on his plane, did not agree with him. He said, “Because I just don't know”. Further suggesting that Tomahawk is a missile that a lot of other country including Iran, have purchased.

Uncertainty around the Iran war remains
The war in Iran has reached its 10th day, and there were mixed hints in almost every important aspect of the war. There were conflicting accounts from Trump in a few hours apart, and between Trump and his own team, from the war being over, the state of Iran's defences, depleted Iranian leadership and the bombing of the elementary school. A cloud of uncertainty has engulfed the war, US is unable to rationalise its own actions, even within its own country, to its own citizens. The war remains unpopular, and the US has almost lost the narrative.

Trump again contradicts his own team, who have offered conflicting narratives on the rationale of war, the bombing of Minab elementary school, and the progress or ending of the war.

Donald Trump told Republican lawmakers that his wife's movie Melania was "hot" and that she had become a "movie star." While talking to other members, Trump told them how drug prices fell in his first term, and he went home and told his wife, Melania, about it. From here, he took a huge diversion, steering the conversation towards "Melania", the documentary. "I was so proud. I went home and told our great first lady, who is now a movie star. Can you believe it? That movie was hot, and it is hot. She became a movie star. It was a good movie," Trump said. Melania premiered earlier this year and dropped on OTT on March 9. The movie has been directed by Brett Ratner and shows the 20 days leading up to Trump's inauguration as the US President. It amassed $7 million at opening, way more than another hit, "Am I Racist?" which collected $5.4 million.
Trump on Iran war
Trump is currently in the limelight for the war with Iran. US and Israeli forces attacked the country on February 28, killing Ayatollah Khamenei. The war has been ongoing, as Trump said it could last four to five weeks. On Monday, he claimed that the conflict was nearly over, then took another U-turn soon after, vowing to continue fighting until total victory was achieved. He told CBS News in an interview that things have moved much faster than expected, and Iran's arsenal has depleted. "They have no navy, no communications, they've got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones," he said.

Donald Trump injected his wife, Melania's documentary, into a regular address to Republicans, saying the movie was hot and praising his “movie star” wife. Melania dropped on Amazon Prime Video on March 9.

In February, Trump made a similar quip during the Board of Peace meeting. “Melania is a big, big movie star. I always say there's not room in one family for 2 stars," he said. From 'four weeks' to 'war is very complete' to 'not won enough': Trump contradicts himself on endgame of Iran war

U.S. President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran could end soon, but stressed that the United States has “not won enough yet.” Trump claimed the joint U.S.–Israel military campaign has already weakened Iran’s military capabilities, but said operations would continue until a decisive victory is achieved.

Amid the escalating US-Iran war, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Tehran over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Trump said if Iran attempts to block oil flows through the strait, the United States would respond with “death, fire and fury” and strike Iran “20 times harder” than before.

Trump says he had “a very good call” with Russian president Putin, urging him to end the Ukraine war while discussing the Iran conflict and Middle East tensions

US President Donald Trump said Iran’s decision to retaliate against its regional neighbours following joint US-Israeli strikes was a major miscalculation, calling the move “very foolish, very stupid.” Speaking at a news conference in Florida, Trump said Tehran’s attacks on nearby countries, including Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, backfired strategically by pushing them closer to Washington. Iran’s neighbours “were largely neutral, or at least weren’t going to be involved,” Trump said, adding that after Tehran’s strikes “the neighbors came onto our side and started attacking [Iran,] and actually quite successfully.” Trump also said the military action fulfills a pledge he made years ago to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.During the same remarks, the president argued that the ongoing war with Iran could ultimately push oil prices lower, even though global markets have surged since the conflict began.
