Russia on Friday dismissed claims that it is trying to interfere in the 2020 US presidential election. The country described the claims&nbsp;as a paranoid falsehood a day after&nbsp;US intelligence community's top election security official told lawmakers that&nbsp;Moscow, accused of meddling in the 2016 US election on Donald Trump's behalf, was looking to influence this year's vote.&nbsp;

The allegations were "like the usual paranoid announcements, which unfortunately will multiply as we get closer to the (US) election," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"Of course, they have nothing to do with the truth," Peskov added.

According to media reports, last week's briefing, led by election security official Shelby Pierson, addressed the overall picture of Russia's efforts, including hacking, weaponizing social media and attacks on election infrastructure.

The officials&nbsp;warned the committee in the classified briefing that&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/donald-trump-warns-russia-not-to-meddle-in-us-election-2020-267555">Russia&nbsp;</a>was working to cast doubt on the integrity of the voting process in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/donald-trump-warns-russia-not-to-meddle-in-us-election-2020-267555">US presidential election 2020</a>&nbsp;while at the same time boosting Trump's election to a second four-year term.

However, Mueller was unable to clear Trump of obstructing his investigation.

They have asked Mike Pompeo for assessments on a few points:&nbsp;

The number of political detainees in Kashmir and whether they have been subjected to torture or not. Restrictions on the Internet and mobile service, access for foreign diplomats, journalists and observers.

They also want to know if the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) would render anyone stateless. And, they are demanding specific numbers.

These are leaders from both sides of the aisle, a group of bipartisan lawmakers - Chris Van Hollen and Richard Durbin are from the democratic party; Todd Young and Lindsey Graham from the Republican Party. Graham is the same lawmaker who was recently rebuffed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Other lawmakers too are using the opportunity to mount pressure on Trump, Ami Bera is one of them. He is an influential lawmaker - who has expressed concern over India's new Citizenship Law and the situation in Kashmir. George Holding - a Republican lawmaker has also spoken out. They all want Trump to say something on both the issues.

So far, the United States has stood by India, at the same time, Trump has made repeated offers of mediation between India and Pakistan on Kashmir. However, it's not certain if Trump plans to bring up Kashmir or CAA while he is in India.

The officials&nbsp;warned the committee in the classified briefing that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/donald-trump-warns-russia-not-to-meddle-in-us-election-2020-267555">Russia </a>was working to cast doubt on the integrity of the voting process in the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/donald-trump-warns-russia-not-to-meddle-in-us-election-2020-267555">US presidential election 2020</a> while at the same time boosting Trump's election to a second four-year term.

Media reports quoting a source said that "the Russians are favouring one candidate while they do it," said the person, adding that the briefers identified Trump as the candidate.&nbsp;

There was no immediate response to a request for comment from committee Republicans.

Trump had allegedly rebuked acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire a day after the briefing for allowing his staff to appear before the committee.

Trump said on Wednesday he was replacing Maguire on an acting basis with Richard Grenell, a strong Trump loyalist who has served as ambassador to Germany since 2018.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.&nbsp;The office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment.
