The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, won a historic mandate in Delhi polls on Saturday after a 27-year hiatus, ousting the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from power. The AAP's seat count plummeted to 22, a significant drop from its previous tally of 62 in the 2020 Delhi elections.
According to the data of the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 48 seats. The Congress failed to register a victory in any constituency again for the third consecutive time. The party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years from 1998, registered a hat-trick of zero tally in assembly polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Delhi for their support to BJP in assembly polls saying that they are relieved on making the national capital "AAP-da free".
Addressing a gathering at the party headquarters after the party's resounding victory in the assembly poll, PM Modi said the BJP will return the love of the people of Delhi in the form of progress and development.
He said the people of Delhi were filled with both "enthusiasm and relief" after "freeing Delhi from AAPda", a wordplay used for linking AAP with disaster (aapda).

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections and accepted the "people's mandate".
"We accept the mandate of the people with great humility. I congratulate the BJP for this victory and I hope they will fulfil all the promises for which people have voted for them," Kejriwal said in a video address.

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal launched a scathing attack against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stating that god "punishes" the ones who commit crime against women.
Maliwal's remarks are particularly significant in light of her past allegations against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's aide, Bibhav Kumar, whom she accused of "assaulting" her at the then Chief Minister's residence.&nbsp;
It is pertinent to note that despite Maliwal's repeated criticism of AAP, she has not yet left the party.

We did not come into politics for the sake of power, we considered politics as a medium through which the people could be served," he added.
Kejriwal lost the re-election bid from the New Delhi seat by 4,089 votes to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Parvesh Verma.
The AAP chief garnered 25,999 votes whereas Verma got 30,088, while Congress' Sandeep Dikshit finished a distant third with 4,600 votes.&nbsp;

Social activist Anna Hazare slammed Aam Aadmi Party and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal over alleged involvement in liquor scam and money laundering.
"I have been saying for a long time that while contesting the election - the candidate must have a character, good ideas and have no dent on image. But, they (AAP) didn't get that. They got tangled in liquor and money - his (Arvind Kejriwal) image was dented because of it and that's why they are getting fewer votes in the election," Hazare said.
