In a private dating group on Facebook, Renee flaunts herself to like-minded singles as a fit, adventurous Kizomba dancer who at 35 exudes "inner child vibes." But her main draw?

In a private dating group on Facebook, Renee flaunts herself to like-minded singles as a fit, adventurous Kizomba dancer who at 35 exudes "inner child vibes." But her main draw? She is unvaccinated. The Covid-19 pandemic may have receded, but dating apps, websites and social media groups still offer to unite vaccine-hating singles who believe debunked falsehoods such as that coronavirus jabs alter DNA or cause infertility. The trend underscores how anti-vaccine sentiment has become an entrenched identity for many who willfully resist or ignore scientific assertions that inoculations saved tens of millions of lives globally when the pandemic was raging. A prospective match's vaccination status determines compatibility not just for Renee, a self-employed Australian, but for many posting in "unvaxed singles" groups that have cropped up on Facebook. Dating decisions there are driven by chemistry but not science. In one closed group breached by AFP, many listed "no jabbies" as their top dating criteria, while others cheered anti-vaccine advocates as "pure blood freedom fighters." One meme popular in the group described their ideal partner: "She's curvy, funny, intelligent, unvaccinated." It demonstrates how the pandemic turned rejecting vaccines from a personal health decision to the way "people express their personal brand," said Timothy Caulfield, a professor at the University of Alberta in Canada. "It shows how high the walls of their echo chambers are. Being anti-vaccine has become an ideological flag -- a way to demonstrate which team you belong to," Caulfield told AFP. "It is less and less about science and more and more about the values being antivax signal." 'Swipe left' According to a 2022 survey by the Pew Research Center, about half of US adults who used a dating site or app said it was important to see the vaccination status on profiles. "Why is your vaccination status such a big deal? I've even seen it listed as a 'dealbreaker' on some profiles," said a post in a dating discussion group on the online messaging board Reddit. "The profiles I see most state the following: 'if you're vaccinated then please swipe left.'" Some comments in the group referred to vaccinated singles as people carrying "biological weapons," an apparent reference to the debunked claim the vaccinated spread "super strain" variants. Vaccine falsehoods often overlap with other types of misinformation, introducing believers to those espousing the QAnon conspiracy theory and anti-LGBTQ narratives. "Studies have consistently shown that if a person is anti-vaccine – or unvaccinated – you can make a strong guess about that person's positions on a host of other issues," Caulfield said. Spreading falsehoods can also be profitable. The Florida-based Wellness Company sells a detoxification supplement that it claims counteracts the harmful effects of coronavirus jabs, destroying spike proteins to get back "that pre-Covid feeling." But experts and public health authorities told AFP's fact-checkers there is no evidence the nearly $65 supplement does that. The same company also backs a dating website for unvaccinated people called Unjected. Before being accepted, its members are required to have their "vaccination status certified by a medical professional," according to the website. In 2021, US media reported the Unjected app, dubbed as the "Tinder for anti-vaxers," was removed from Apple's App Store over Covid-19 misinformation. A slew of similar apps for unvaccinated singles are available on the Google Play Store. One such platform is called Unjabbed, whose user reviews expressed concern about bugs and phone hacking attempts after the app was downloaded. 'Tall, dark, handsome' At the height of the pandemic in 2021, conventional online dating platforms including Tinder, Hinge and OkCupid sought to boost vaccinations. As part of a White House-backed effort, many platforms allowed users to create badges displaying vaccination status, with OkCupid calling the inoculated the "new tall, dark and handsome." Users who were vaccinated or planned to be saw a spike in matches and engagement, OkCupid said in a blog, adding the "vaccine is really helping people find love." But any future inoculation drive could be jeopardized by anti-vaccine sentiment, which appears resilient even as the pandemic ebbs and travel restrictions are lifted around the world. The allure of finding an unvaccinated partner is reinforced by false social media posts sharing unfounded fears that vaccines can be "shed" or passed onto people through body fluids, threatening fertility. "The only real utility a dating platform like this could have is finding a partner that aligns with your 'medical freedom' views," Katrine Wallace, an epidemiologist and assistant professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, told AFP. "There is no clinical reason to do so."

Time to swipe left?: Misinformation drives 'vaccine-free' dating

Love Is Blind is a reality TV dating show that premiered on Netflix in February 2020. It is currently in its season 4. The show is hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, and it has gained a lot of popularity since its release. The unique premise of the show involves single men and women who are looking for love. The twist is that they are not allowed to see each other before they decide whether or not they want to get engaged. The show's contestants go on "dates" in "pods," which are essentially small rooms where they can talk to one another, but they are not able to see each other. They are given a chance to build a connection and develop an emotional bond with one another before they even see what their potential partner looks like.

After a few days of talking in the pods, the contestants are given the option to propose to their favourite person. If both parties agree, they get engaged, and then they finally get to see each other in person for the first time. The couples then go on a romantic vacation at a couples' retreat resort to get to know each other better and get physically intimate before returning home to meet each other's families and friends.

The contestants are also given counselling and advice from the show's relationship experts. They help couples deal with any issues that may arise and give them guidance on how to build a healthy and successful relationship.

The ultimate goal of the show is for the couples to decide if they want to get married. In the finale, the contestants are given the option to either go through with the wedding or break up with their partner.

The show is designed to test the theory that people can fall in love without knowing what someone looks like. The premise of the show is based on the idea that true love is blind and that physical appearance is not the most important factor in a relationship.

Throughout the series, the couples face various challenges and obstacles that test their love for each other. The show has been praised for its unique concept and for exploring the idea of whether love can indeed be blind. It has also been criticised for its manipulation of the contestants and for perpetuating stereotypes about relationships.

Best revenge! Name a cockroach after your ex and feed it to an animal this Valentine's Day 2023

When the shelves start getting stacked with teddy bears, heart-shaped candy boxes, and flowers, you know it's time to celebrate love and Valentine's Day. It's the perfect time to plan something special for your crush or girlfriend, cut the months-long chase and say the three heavy words. Since we know it's not the easiest task and impressing someone takes a trick or two, we have a quick dating guide for you.

Whether you’re planning a laid-back date or something more extravagant, you must remember that you can only impress your girl by confessing your true feeling for her. Before seeing the decor, gifts, and the things you have planned for your Valentine's Day, she will see how genuine you sound, what you truly feel for her and how you're willing to plan a life together. These are the things that will truly matter to her!

So, unlike most dating guides that suggest ways to plan a perfect date night, we will help you understand how you can say the three magical words in the most genuine way possible.

You must go down on one knee!

It goes without saying but we will still stress the importance of going down on one knee when you propose or say "I love you". This gesture has been connected to submission, deference, and respect, among other things. The origin of this tradition is unknown, however, the action itself has been around for centuries.

Write down a list of vows

When your girl will hear you say those vows yourself, it will reassure her how much you love her and want to be with her. So make vows you know will mean a lot to your girl. Tell her how you will stand by her in good and bad times. Or how you will take care of her when she is sick or needs support. These small promises mean a lot in a relationship.

Handmade or handwritten

Gift her something handmade or write a love letter for her that can always remind her of your love and devotion. If you are good at pottery, make a flower vase for her with both of your initials or your anniversary date. If you are a painter, make a painting for her. Just get creative with the process and enjoy it!

Look and smell your best

Don't forget to don your best tuxedo and spray your favourite perfume before going on the date. You must look and smell your best.

Capture the moment

Lastly, ask your friend to capture the moment on a camera. Your girl would love to relive the moments through pictures and videos.

Valentine's Day 2023: How can I impress a girl/crush on Valentine's day?

For the longest time, alcohol has been a player in getting people together, a silent cupid many would call it but this cupid is taking a backseat in today's dating scenario. It's been noticed that an increasing number of people going on dates are preferring to without this liquid courage support called as 'Dry Dating'.

What is the 'Dry Dating' trend? Is it here to stay?

1. India's Tinder Swindler

Dating apps and sites are cluttered with a plethora of fake profiles where thousands of scamsters trap innocent individuals under the guise of romance and dupe them. Many cybercriminals often do this through popular social media sites like Instagram or Facebook or dating apps like Tinder. When the world was hit by COVID pandemic, there was a spike in the number of people flocking to the internet to seek some online company during isolation. A man named Ramesh Kumar Swain, who married and defrauded 27 women from 10 different states for money is India's 'Tinder Swindler', named after a documentary on Netflix. In the documentary, a notorious man posed as a wealthy heir and wooed women online, then conned them of millions of dollars. In a similar manner, Swain laid elaborate traps and took advantage of the women’s helplessness. Among one of Odisha's most notorious fraudsters, Swain targeted women that were middle-aged, educated, and well-off but were coping with divorce, or had family issues. The good part of the story? The 66-year-old con man was nabbed by the Odisha police for his wrongdoings while he was travelling in a car in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar.

2. 'Dexter' inspired Aaftab-Shraddha murder case

The gruesome killing of Shraddha Walker who was chopped into pieces is pushing people to reflect on the associated dangers of hooking up through online dating apps. Shraddha, whose body was disposed off after a brutal murder, had met Aaftab Poonawala on an online dating app Bumble in 2019. Both then moved to Delhi from Mumbai. Did Shraddha have the slightest of clue that by subscribing to the dating app she is apparently inching closer to a trap laid by this violent sexual predator who would kill her like an animal? In interrogation, Aaftab admitted that on May 18, after an argument, he strangled Shraddha and dismembered her body into 35 pieces to dispose it off easily without arousing suspicion. He also confessed that after “chopping the body”, he “washed the blood and stuffed the pieces in plastic bags and then kept them in the fridge”. Aaftab even bought a 300-litre fridge in which he kept the severed body parts of Shraddha for almost three weeks before dumping them across the forest area over several days in a 'Dexter' inspired crime. Even after the grisly murder, Aaftab continued to talk to multiple women on dating apps.

3. Woman drugged man, robs him of cash

A woman in Pune lured a man on an app and robbed him of his valuables in the first meeting. She met him via Tinder dating app and then told him that she wants to meet and grab some drinks. When the duo met, the woman offered a cold drink laced with some psychotropic substance to the man. Soon after having the drink, the complainant went unconscious. Taking undue advantage of his condition, the woman stole his gold chain and mobile phone of the man worth Rs 1.10 lakh. The man later lodged a complaint and the woman was booked. Youth across the globe are constantly swiping their screens to find a suitable match. Not all who hook up online hold a bad experience but thousands get trapped, duped to end up bitter.

4. A pseudo-therapist woman targets a man

In a cheating case filed in Karnataka, a woman took money from a man she met on Tinder. She posed as a wellness therapist on an online dating site. The two met on Tinder. One day, the man told the woman that he was stressed. Tapping the iron when it's hot, she told the man about his Instagram page and claimed to be a wellness therapist. Throughout the lockdown imposed due to Covid-19, the man took wellness therapy classes through Instagram. He even paid the woman Rs 3.15 lakh. Later, the man insisted on meeting her but she refused and then blocked him. The man later found that the woman had as many as 15 social media profiles. He finally took the matter to court and filed a case against the woman. As per media reports, the Karnataka High Court recently refused to quash the cheating case filed against the woman.

5. Woman raped by man she met online

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a five-star hotel in the Indian national capital of New Delhi after the two had met on a dating app. A case was registered on June 3 based on the woman's complaint in which she alleged that she was raped by a man at a hotel in Dwarka area of Delhi on May 30. "The woman, who used to work in a shop, alleged that she met the accused through Tinder (dating app)," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Dwarka) M. Harsha Vardhan said, as reported by IANS.

There has been a shift in how people are using the dating apps. People are increasing ghosting, cheating and conning people after contacting them through dating sites and apps, taking advantage of the emotional vulnerabilities. 1. India's Tinder Swindler Dating apps and sites are cluttered with a plethora of fake profiles where thousands of scamsters trap innocent individuals under the guise of romance and dupe them. 2. 'Dexter' inspired Aaftab-Shraddha murder case The gruesome killing of Shraddha Walker who was chopped into pieces is pushing people to reflect on the associated dangers of hooking up through online dating apps. 3. Woman drugged man, robs him of cash A woman in Pune lured a man on an app and robbed him of his valuables in the first meeting. 4. A pseudo-therapist woman targets a man In a cheating case filed in Karnataka, a woman took money from a man she met on Tinder. 5. Woman raped by man she met online A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a five-star hotel in the Indian national capital of New Delhi after the two had met on a dating app. Millions use these apps and fall victims and --- the number is growing. All users should be very discreet and take all due caution while taking things forward on these apps and websites.

More than 75 per cent of people using dating apps have been subjected to some sort of sexual violence in the past five years, a new study has claimed.

The figures were released on Monday following a survey by the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC), which showed that three out of four users of dating apps faced sexual violence after using these apps. The institute surveyed 9,987 app users.

Among the most common form of behaviour reported is sexual harassment, with abusive and threatening language, followed by unsolicited sexual images.

The survey further found that sexual violence was more frequent in the case of LGBTIQ+ men and women compared to heterosexual participants.

Among the heterosexual respondents, 79 per cent of women reported some form of online violence, compared with 61 per cent of men.

At least one-third of users faced physical abuse from someone they met on an app, with 27 per cent of those reporting incidents of sexual assault or coercion, such as drink spiking, the researchers noted.

The report pointed out that a “significant proportion” of app users were exposed to online and physical sexual violence.

“This is highly concerning given the significant and potentially long-term impacts associated with these victimisation experiences,” the study said, reports AP news agency.

“These impacts include poorer health and wellbeing, including overall life satisfaction, social isolation and lower self-esteem, as well as increased risk of re-victimisation.”

The study called for urgent improvement in user experience and safety, saying that the dating apps should prioritise easier reporting processes, tougher ID verification to ban perpetrators and censorship of explicit images.

“Considering the long- and short-term implications for victim-survivors after experiencing these harmful behaviours, there is an obvious need to develop mechanisms for protecting users,” the study said.

This f-word is definitely not a taboo. We flirt consciously or otherwise and the eternal game goes on. Some of the best literature can be (rather unceremoniously) summed up as flirting gone on for some 500 pages.

When we witness someone interesting, our eyes talk, words are measured (or not depending on the perceived preference), our body language changes.

So it's a bit of a buzzkill when we don't get the number.

What went wrong? We can ponder this for years if we choose to.

But this scientific study might help you. Researchers from US and Norway worked together on this (professionally) to know which flirtation technique works best.

So 415 men and women in Norway and 577 in the US were given questionnaires. They were asked about what they found attractive in the opposite sex.

It was found that for men, flirtation tactics which indicated generosity and commitment worked best. Indications of willingness to have intimate conversations and spending time together worked best. It was found that reining in urge to have sex worked well for men.

For women, somewhat opposite was found to be effective. While what they dressed played a part, a friendly touch during conversation was found to be effective as well.

But one thing that beat most other factors in terms of attractiveness. Both, men and women rated humour and ability to crack a joke high on the scale of attractiveness.

Online dating has become the new normal. Thousands are finding love online. Many are also being scammed, used for money laundering. Americans lost $500Mn in 2021. People above 60 lost significantly more money. Palki Sharma has the details.

Gravitas: Online dating scams surge during the pandemic

Spurned over not finding “enough single ladies” on a dating website, a 29-year-old man from Colorado, US, has sued the CEO of the company, claiming that the website does not have enough profiles of women.

Ian Cross, 29 has sued Denver Dating Co. for an undisclosed amount of damages, according to The Denver Post. He has accused the Nevada-based group of fraudulent inducement, breach of contract and deceptive trade practices.

According to the lawsuit, Cross “was interested in engaging a dating service to meet single women his age” and met with a representative named Lisa from the company in January.

The representative told Cross that their dating services has a “huge” database of single women in the 25 to 35 age range, and there was a recent influx of new members in that age range because of the ‘wave of breakups’ due to the pandemic, the lawsuit states.

Cross believed Lisa’s claims and paid $9,409 for the membership in February. However, he later discovered that there were only five women in the 18 to 35 age range active in the database, according to the lawsuit.

“The Denver Dating Co. uses online reviews of fake or fictitious customers in order to create a false impression with the public regarding the quality and characteristics of its service,” the lawsuit reads.

Several complaints have been filed against The Denver Dating Co., alleging among other things that the company had poor communication skills and used “high pressure sales tactics” to sign new customers.

All over the world, people use Tinder in search of a partner that they could spend time and connect. However, in New Zealand, the dating app is being used by aspiring first-time homebuyers asking for a prospective partner that might assist them in acquiring a house.

According to data provided by Tinder, the number of Kiwis mentioning that they were looking for a partner to buy a house in their Tinder profile had more than doubled.

A Tinder spokeswoman told a New Zealand-based news outlet ‘Stuff’ that the phrase “buy a house” in new users’ bios increased by 2.6 times between June 2020 and June 2021.

The bio is the area of Tinder users’ profiles where they can write about themselves, and outline what they are looking for in a partner.

Tinder provided examples of bios, ranging from light-hearted playful to pure transactional.

“Apparently it's easier to buy a house with someone else. Genuine outdoors bloke looking to settle down hopefully,” a user wrote.

“Bank told me I needed to find a partner to buy a house,” said another one.

“Just want someone to buy a house with, nothing serious,” said a prospective home buyer.

“Apparently it’s easier to buy a house with someone else. Genuine outdoors bloke looking to settle down hopefully,” one man wrote.

“Looking for someone to combine incomes with so we can buy a house using the Kiwibuild $180,000 couples limit,” said another.

However, despite the playful nature of these posts, the growing number of users seeking house also points to a large problem that young Kiwis are facing—housing affordability.

According to local media reports, the average house price across the island nation has soared to NZ $906,532 (approximately US $643,982), up 22% since this time last year.

For the vast majority of homebuyers, banks seek a 20% deposit, and across the country, which means the buyer has to shell out NZ $181,306— which is more than 3.2 times New Zealand’s average annual wage.

Consumer NZ’s survey found that 20% of New Zealanders said they were saving for a deposit but couldn’t catch up, and 42% said they were locked out completely – a total of 62%.

Housing affairs: Young Kiwis turning to Tinder to find mortgage mates

After Facebook Dating, the social networking platform is now testing a video speed-dating app called Sparked that will first allow 4-minute dates to help users find if they are compatible to each other.

Once you 'both have a great time’, dates will then be scheduled for a 10-minute duration.

After that point, Sparked can let the users exchange contact information and stay in touch via Instagram, iMessage, or email, The Verge reported on Tuesday.

Sparked is developed by the company's in-house NPE (New Product Experimentation) team.

The free-to-use app will offer no public profiles, no swiping and no direct messages (DMs) but a simple video speed-chat.

During the sign-up process, users need to explain what makes them a kind dater. The responses will be 'reviewed by a human at Sparked' before you can go on speed dates.

"Users also have to choose whether they want to date men, women, or nonbinary people, and then are asked if they are open to dating trans people," the report noted.

In 2019, the company rolled out Facebook Dating in the US, and later to various countries, including the UK.

The Dating app helps users explore potential romantic relationships within their own extended circle of friends.

Facebook also quietly launched a new app last year, just for couples who can connect to each other intimately like a personal dating app.

Called Tuned, the app allowed couples to share their mood, exchange music via Spotify and create a digital scrapbook.

United States President Donald Trump likened his diplomacy with North Korean Kim Jong-un to “dating”.

His ex-security adviser John Bolton’s upcoming book which has made headlines for its controversial nature apparently mentions the bizarre details.

The book is titled “The Room Where It Happened”, and has been at the centre of controversy in terms of its content. According to Bolton, Trump had sought political favours from Chinese President Xi Jinping and had allegedly not raised any red flags with China’s treatment of Uighur Muslims, who are reportedly kept in concentration camps.

Bolton also revealed that Trump “always wanted to be the one who broke up with the girl first”.

The memoir was published on Tuesday, and is perhaps the first of its kind in the entire US history. Trump had attempted to block the release of the book, which was denied by US court. According to Trump, the book contains sensitive details pertaining to national security, which is why, according to him it ought to be banned. This request was rejected.

Trump intends to drag Bolton to court and will reportedly seek a share of profits made from the book.

Bolton claims that he had resigned last September after first-handedly witnessing denuclearisation efforts in the Korean peninsula.

“Well, he said that he always, back in the day, as they say, he always wanted to be the one who broke up with the girl first,” Bolton said. “He didn’t want the girl to break up with him. And he used that to describe whether he would cancel the summit with Kim Jong-un first or whether we would risk the North Koreans cancelling it”.

“And I thought it was an insight into the president, candidly given, that showed how he approached this. As opposed to looking at it from the perspective of what our ultimate strategic interest was, in my view, would have been better not to agree to the summit to begin with.”

Trump has recently not made any comments on North Korea, especially after North’s violent transgressions whereby it blew up a shared liaison office across the border, which was seen as a symbol of North-South unity.

Bolton said “this entire two-year-long effort with North Korea ended in diplomatic failure. But that allowed the North Koreans the time that they need to continue to pursue nuclear weapons and ballistic missile delivery systems.”

Trump told a rally in West Virginia earlier while alluding to Kim, “He wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters. We fell in love."

Recently, Trump held his first post-coronavirus rally in Tulsa, which saw lesser turnout than expected. Reportedly, thousands of tickets were reserved by TikTok and K-pop fans who had no plans of going to the rally.

North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump cross south of the Military Demarcation Line that divides North and South Korea, after Trump briefly stepped over to the northern side, in the Joint Security Area (JSA) of Panmunjom in the Demilitarized zone (DMZ) on June 30, 2019 | AFP “Well, he said that he always, back in the day, as they say, he always wanted to be the one who broke up with the girl first,” Bolton said. “He didn’t want the girl to break up with him. And he used that to describe whether he would cancel the summit with Kim Jong-un first or whether we would risk the North Koreans cancelling it”. “And I thought it was an insight into the president, candidly given, that showed how he approached this. As opposed to looking at it from the perspective of what our ultimate strategic interest was, in my view, would have been better not to agree to the summit to begin with.” Trump has recently not made any comments on North Korea, especially after North’s violent transgressions whereby it blew up a shared liaison office across the border, which was seen as a symbol of North-South unity. But that allowed the North Koreans the time that they need to continue to pursue nuclear weapons and ballistic missile delivery systems.” Trump told a rally in West Virginia earlier while alluding to Kim, “He wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters. China's Southwest Jiaotong University launched a dating course, as many students entering college have seldom if ever, dated.

In high school, Chinese students face pressure from parents to study hard and get accepted to their ideal university. This, in turn, has led to the growth of dating websites and independent dating courses, to teach many young people a skill they lack.

To better equip their students with this social skill, the university has built such a dating course into their curriculum.

In a recent class, teacher Gao Fei presented colourful scarves symbolizing the sacrifices and benefits of a marriage.

Undergraduate students from various majors took turns expressing themselves via this thought-provoking process. They also discussed and wrote down what these sacrifices are.

For the male, it was mostly the loss of personal space and money; and the female - their looks and health.

This class, geared toward marriage, came near the end of a 14-week interdisciplinary course entitled the "Art of Getting Along with the Opposite Sex".

"In this class, the boys shared their views on marriage and changes they may encounter from dating up to marriage. We don't often understand this as girls," said Hou Shufen, a logistics undergraduate student.

In the early parts of this inaugural course, students learned how to make a good first impression, meet the right person, and date.

Gao, the course's founder and teacher, had two aims: to help narrow the gap between knowledge and practice and to better prepare -- than repair -- these students for what is to come in their future.

"The divorce rate in China has been increasing over the past five to eight years, and most of those divorced was born in the early 1980s or even late 1980s if they get married early. Young people born in the early 1990s have also begun to enter into marriage," she said.

For some students, it is more than just a dating and marriage elective.

Ji Zesen, an engineering undergraduate, said this course is necessary. He cited the lack of communication skills most university students face as they focus too much on their academics.

"If we can manage to get along well with the opposite sex, I believe we can also communicate better with the seniors and people of the same sex. The skills can be fully applied to these areas," said Ji.

In China, huge importance is placed on education: nailing good grades, getting into good schools and so on. Now college education is not all about just math and science, it is also about learning social techniques, like the class about dating and marriage here at this university. It all starts from equipping these students with soft skills to hopefully better maneuver today's societal problems and beyond.
