Team India manager Sunil Subramaniam on Wednesday was asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to return from the ongoing tour of the West Indies for allegedly misbehaving with the senior officials in the Caribbean Islands.

According to BCCI sources, Subramaniam has reportedly been asked to appear before BCCI CEO Rahul Johri in Mumbai for an explanation.

Subramaniam misbehaved with the Indian Foreign Service Officers when they reached him for a video shoot by the players for 'water conservation'.

The BCCI had asked the Indian High Commissions in Trinidad and Tobago to contact Subramaniam for the video, however, when an official tried to contact him, Subramanium refused to entertain the person.

Subramaniam has offered an unconditional apology to the Indian High Commission officials, citing stress as the reason for his misbehaviour. Team India manager further said that he was also sleep deprived when the incident occurred.

The BCCI officials were not too happy with his behaviour during the recently-concluded world cup too.&nbsp;

The MCC cricket committee has played down calls for neutral umpires to be replaced in Test cricket after Joel Wilson's decisions in the first Test between England and Australia came in for widespread criticism.

West Indian umpire Wilson had eight decisions overturned by players from both teams at Edgbaston, while his fellow umpire Aleem Dar also made several errors in the Ashes clash.

Many observers claimed the best umpires in the game should be on duty for what remains cricket's highest-profile Test series, regardless of whether they were born in England or Australia.

"I think the feeling is still that neutrality works. Unfortunately, there is still quite an imbalance in the ICC elite panel," said John Stephenson, head of cricket at MCC, the guardians of the sport's laws.

Currently, seven of the 12-strong elite panel hail from England or Australia and it appears investing more in raising the umpiring standard across the globe is a preferable option to ending a ruling dating back to 2002.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who sits on the committee, brought the issue to the table during a two-day meeting at Lord's.

"It was a bit of a focus during the last Test match and Ricky mentioned the possibility of bringing back non-neutral umpires," Stephenson added.

"It's probably a good time for the base to be broadened, maybe something should be done to train up more umpires to get them to elite level around the world."

Cricket could be included in the Olympics in the future with the 2028 Games in Los Angeles being the earliest it can be staged, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) said on Monday.

The MCC, custodian of the sport’s laws, had its World Cricket Committee (WCC) discuss the inclusion of cricket in multi-sports events at Lord’s on Sunday and Monday.

Cricket has not been given an entry in Olympics after 1900 Olympics.&nbsp;

“There is still much to be done if cricket is to be included in the Olympics, with Los Angeles 2028 the earliest likely opportunity, and the ICC continuing to work internally to align cricket to pursue the sport’s Olympic ambitions,” the MCC World Cricket committee said in a statement.

However, the BCCI is finally set to come under the ambit of the National Anti-Doping Agency, with its compliance paving the way for their cricket teams to take part in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

In June, women’s Twenty20 cricket moved a step closer to feature in the 2022 Commonwealth Games after being nominated by organisers for its potential inclusion in Birmingham.

Cricket has not featured in the Commonwealth Games since its maiden appearance in 1998 when the South African men’s team won the gold medal in Kuala Lumpur.

“The WCC is pleased to see that Women’s T20 Cricket is likely to be included at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, having supported this in their last meeting in March,” it added.

“Cricket is also due to return to the Asian Games at Hangzhou 2022, likely again to be in the T20 format. Including cricket at Hangzhou 2022 is the perfect opportunity to showcase the sport to the market in China.”

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Saturday suspended the contract of Mohammad Shahzad for an indefinite period stating that the wicket-keeper batsman breached ACB's Code of Conduct.

"As per ACB's policies, any player travelling out of the country is required to seek the permission of ACB. Shahzad has not adhered to this, repetitively," ACB said in a statement.

Earlier, Shahzad was<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/afghanistan-keeper-mohammad-shahzad-ruled-out-of-world-cup-2019-225176"> ruled out of the World Cup </a>on June 7 due to a knee injury.

Just like other sports federations in the country, the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=bcci">Board of Control for Cricket in India</a> (BCCI) has also come under the ambit of National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).&nbsp;

India's cricket board&nbsp;had concerns about the standard of NADA dope testing kits and had contracted an independent service provider for sample collection.&nbsp;

"They had two-three concerns," said sports secretary Radhey Shyam Julaniya after his meeting with BCCI chief executive Rahul Johri.&nbsp;

"The first was quality of the dope testing kits. We assured them the kit we're using is an international standard and recognised by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency)."

BCCI&nbsp;also agreed to&nbsp;bear the extra expenses for&nbsp;better kits and superior dope control officers.&nbsp;

Julaniya said that all sports are the same and&nbsp;everyone has to follow the same rules, "BCCI does not have discretion to say no," he added.&nbsp;

"I explained to them that you don't have discretion, you don't decide whether you'd follow the law or not. The law applies to all uniformly," he said. He made it clear that they could not make an exception for cricket.

Earlier, the BCCI had insisted&nbsp;on handling its doping analysis and sanctions in-house, rebuffing pressure from India's government and the World Anti-Doping Agency to come under the ambit of India's WADA-accredited national anti-doping body.&nbsp;

But the request has been turned down.&nbsp;

"NADA, as and when it wants to test, will carry out the tests like it does with all other athletes," Julaniya said.

"The WADA code gives the authority to the national anti-doping agency to carry out all testing in its territory, irrespective of the nationality of the athletes."

On the decision, BCCI's chief Johri, said, "We have to follow the law of the land &amp; BCCI is committed to follow the law that exists."

"We have raised quite a few issues which the sports secretary said will be addressed by them," he told reporters.

"We have agreed to bear the differential cost of high-quality testing," Johri added.&nbsp;

The BCCI is the world's richest cricket body and generates about 70 per cent of the sport's global revenues.

Zimbabwe Cricket's governing body will be reinstated as Zimbabwe's Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has decided to reverse its decision following a court order.

The ruling has also come after the International Cricket council's (ICC) letter to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) dated July 24, asking the body to unconditionally reinstate the ousted board.

"Accordingly, and pursuant to the said court order, the SRC hereby lifts the suspension of the directors of ZC, including that of the acting managing director (Givemore Makoni), with immediate effect," ESPN Cricinfo quoted the statement released by the SRC on Thursday.

The suspended ZC board had earlier appealed to the SRC's original order at an administrative court in the month of June this year.

The appeal was initially dismissed, but ZC had re-launched their appeal last month.

The ICC on July 18 had suspended Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect for failing to fulfill their obligation of ensuring that there is no government interference in its administration.

ICC's chairman Shashank Manohar had said that what happened in Zimbabwe was a 'serious breach'&nbsp;of the ICC Constitution.

"We do not take the decision to suspend a member lightly, but we must keep our sport free from political interference. What has happened in Zimbabwe is a serious breach of the ICC Constitution and we cannot allow it to continue unchecked. The ICC wants cricket to continue in Zimbabwe in accordance with the ICC Constitution," ICC had quoted Manohar as saying.

Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe for a tri-nations Twenty20 tournament in September despite the African nation being suspended by the game's world body, an official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board said Thursday.

Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe for a tri-nations Twenty20 tournament in September despite the African nation being suspended by the game's world body, an official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board said Thursday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Zimbabwe in July over a failure to keep the sport free from government interference, putting the country's participation in multi-nation events in doubt. "We have been informed by the concerned officials that there is no bar on Zimbabwe playing in bilateral matches. They are only suspended from ICC events. This is why we included them in the series," BCB spokesman Jalal Yunus told AFP. Afghanistan is the third team in the tournament scheduled to be held from September 13 to 24. Bangladesh was originally scheduled to play a bilateral series against Afghanistan in September, but officials said Zimbabwe had been included in the series following a request from the strife-torn country. The tri-series will be preceded by Afghanistan's maiden Test match against Bangladesh in Chittagong from September 5 to 9.

Cricket Australia unveiled new guidelines on Thursday to ensure transgender players can take part in the game at the highest levels. The policy sets out a testosterone limit for transgender and gender-diverse players who want to play for state and national women's teams.

Cricket Australia unveiled new guidelines on Thursday to ensure transgender players can take part in the game at the highest levels. The policy sets out a testosterone limit for transgender and gender-diverse players who want to play for state and national women's teams. "It doesn't make any sense that today, people are discriminated against, harassed or excluded, because of who they are," Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts said in a statement. To be eligible for elite women's teams, the players must show a testosterone concentration of fewer than 10 nanomoles per litre over at least 12 months. They must also be able to demonstrate their elected gender is consistent with how they are living their lives daily. The move more closely aligns Australia to the International Cricket Council's gender diversity guidelines. Cricket Australia's policy also guides community clubs, supporting grassroots cricketers to compete as the gender with which they identify. The guidelines cover everything from victimisation to privacy and providing suitable facilities, as well as the collection of personal information. Transgender participation in sport has proved a thorny issue with some prominent stars, including tennis great Martina Navratilova, voicing disquiet.

Bangladesh should adopt a rotation policy to prolong the careers of their top players and unearth new talents, premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has said.

The 32-year-old, undoubtedly the best cricketer Bangladesh has ever produced, was granted a break from the team's short tour of Sri Lanka for three one-day internationals after his heroics at the World Cup in England.

"A player can't play all the time, they need to take breaks," he told reporters in Dhaka.

"The responsibility falls on both sides. It is also the responsibility to understand (when) a player is saying that I need or a break, or the coaching staff is telling a player, you need a break. So both sides must understand."

The southpaw cited the example of India and said a rotation policy would boost bench strength for the South Asian country where cricket is the most popular sport.

"I will give you an example from India. Their players had the least injuries in their history last year. One of the main reason was their rotation policy. It helped them build many players who got exposure," Shakib said.

"At the same time, their players were fresh when they came to the side. Everyone, including Virat Kohli, got rested for one of the formats.

"When these breaks are in place, you can give more opportunity to players and you will have players in the pipeline as well. So we have to plan by looking at the bigger picture."

Bangladesh witnessed a spate of injuries to their players during the World Cup, where they finished eighth among 10 teams.

Bangladesh should adopt a rotation policy to prolong the careers of their top players and unearth new talents, premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has said. So both sides must understand." The southpaw cited the example of India and said a rotation policy would boost bench strength for the South Asian country where cricket is the most popular sport. So we have to plan by looking at the bigger picture." Bangladesh witnessed a spate of injuries to their players during the World Cup, where they finished eighth among 10 teams. Shakib was the lone shining light for Bangladesh during the tournament, finishing third on the run-getters' list with 606 runs from eight innings while also picking up 11 wickets with his left-arm orthodox spin bowling. Shakib wants rotation policy to preserve players, boost bench

Sri Lanka put on a clinical performance with bat and ball to record a 122-run win in the third and final one-day international and complete a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/sri-lanka-beat-bangladesh-by-seven-wickets-to-seal-odi-series-239060">clean sweep over Bangladesh</a> in Colombo on Wednesday.

Former captain Angelo Mathews led Sri Lanka with 87 off 90 balls, guiding the side to 294-8 before Dasun Shanaka backed his 30 off 14 with three wickets for 27 runs to complete the rout.

Somuya Sarkar hit the only half-century for Bangladesh, 69 off 86 balls, but it gave Sri Lanka no trouble as the visitors were bowled out for 172.

Kasun Rajitha (2-17) and Lahiru Kumara (2-26) complemented Shanaka with the ball to complete the victory in 36 overs.

Leg-spinner Akila Dananjaya deceived Soumya with his flight to bowl the left-hander in the 32nd over for his only wicket, rendering the rest of the game a mere formality.

Tail-ender Taijul Islam’s unbeaten 39 off 28 balls only managed to entertain a sparse crowd at the R. Premadasa Stadium and delay the result. &nbsp;

"I worked hard after getting dropped from the side. I was confident with my batting which helped me perform well. We're all relieved as a team because we performed together," Shanaka said after the match.

The home side won the first two matches respectively by 91 runs and seven wickets. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"There are a lot of negatives, starting from myself to the team. We have to hold it tight and come back strong," said Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who scored 21 runs in the three matches.

Mathews and Kusal Mendis, who made 54 off 58 balls, set the platform for Sri Lanka's big innings after skipper Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and elected to bat first.&nbsp;

Mathews and Mendis put on 101 for the fourth wicket.

Bangladesh got an early breakthrough when Shafiul Islam removed Avishka Fernando for six but Karunaratne (46) and Kusal Perera (42) steadied the innings with an 83-run stand.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam removed Karunaratne to break the partnership and Rubel Hossain got rid of Perera in the next over to bring Bangladesh back into the contest.

But Mathews and Mendis snatched the momentum back thanks to some sloppy fielding by Bangladeshi players.

Mushfiqur Rahim dropped Mathews on 32 off Shafiul before Sabbir Rahman gave the former Sri Lankan captain another life on 63 off Mehidy Hasan's bowling.&nbsp;

Mathews, who hit eight fours and a six, was finally dismissed by Soumya Sarkar in the last over but not before Bangladesh reviewed a caught behind appeal initially dismissed by on-field umpire.

Soumya finished with 3-56 while medium pace Shafiul also claimed 3-68.

The island nation's cricket board has dedicated the match to pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara who announced his retirement last week.

Tamim-led Bangladesh wore black armbands to pay respect to their first national captain, Shamim Kabir, who died on Monday.

"We have special security arrangements at match venues too," a police official told AFP.

Bangladesh will play three one-day internationals on July 26, 28 and 31 at the Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.

England vs New Zealand: Key battles in World Cup final clash

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has no problem that hosts <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/eoin-morgan-tells-england-to-replicate-australia-form-in-final-235606">England have been branded favourites</a> for Sunday's Cricket World Cup final but says anything is possible.

A new 50-overs world champion will emerge at Lord's after what many consider will be a battle between England's deep batting lineup and New Zealand's incisive bowling attack.

England ruthlessly destroyed five-times champions Australia to move to the cusp of their first-ever men's 50-overs World Cup title, while New Zealand's crafty bowlers defended a small total against two-times champions India in the other semi-final.

"I think England rightly so deserve to be favourites. Coming into this tournament from the start, they were favourites and they've been playing really good cricket," a relaxed-looking Williamson told a news conference when asked if his side were underdogs.

"Whatever dog we are, it's just important that we focus on the cricket that we want to play and we have seen over the years that anybody can beat anybody regardless of breed of dog," he said with a smile.

The canine reference appeared to amuse the Kiwi skipper who was also asked how it would feel to play party-pooper in a match which would be broadcast free-to-air on TV.

Virat&nbsp;Kohli admits Rohit Sharma's blistering form has made him alter his own role in the top-order as India gear up for Tuesday's World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

Sharma has smashed a record five centuries in a single World Cup to lead the tournament batting charts with 647 runs from eight innings.

Kohli has hit five fifties but a hundred has so far eluded the world's top ODI and Test batsman, who is happy to let Sharma play the more aggressive role once again when they face New Zealand at Old Trafford.

"It's been a different kind of role that I have had to play in this World Cup. As the captain of the team I have been open to play any role that the team wants me to," Kohli told reporters on Monday.

"It's great that Rohit is playing so consistently which means that coming in the later half of the innings you have to play a different role, which is controlling and letting guys like Hardik (Pandya), Kedar (Jadhav) and MS (Dhoni) and Rishabh (Pant) come out and express themselves.

Sharma comes in to the New Zealand contest on the back of three successive tons and two 180-plus opening stands with partner KL Rahul.

Kohli, who bats at number three, was unbeaten on 34 when India won their final group game against Sri Lanka on Saturday and insists he is happy doing his more low-key job.

"I've been very happy with holding one end and letting guys express themselves, striking at 150, 160 or 200 if the team needs. I know that I can accelerate in the end," Kohli said.

"I hope he (Sharma) gets two more (centuries) so that we can win two more games because it's an outstanding achievement.

"He deserves all the credit and, according to me, he's at the moment the top ODI player in the world."

'Used to pressure'

India's matches in England have witnessed packed houses with fans of the cricket-crazy nation thronging to the venues carrying the Indian tri-colour and wearing blue replica shirts.

Kohli acknowledged the pressure each game brings, but he was adamant the team is used to performing under such high expectations.

"Look, the&nbsp;Indian team always carry a lot of pressure whenever we play. We are used to that to be quite honest," said Kohli, who was part of India's World Cup-winning team in 2011.

"We are better equipped to react in these situations because we know what these kind of games and our fan base and the expectations bring.&nbsp;

"The disappointment is equal on either side. Our aim and our focus is on winning."

World Cup: Rohit Sharma is the best ODI player, says Virat Kohli

Australia captain Aaron Finch says it will be up to Glenn Maxwell whether he plays in Saturday's Cricket World Cup clash with South Africa after the all-rounder was struck on the forearm during a horror net session for the side.

Shaun Marsh was put out of the tournament on Thursday by a short delivery from teammate Pat Cummins which hit him on the wrist, and shortly afterwards Maxwell was sent to hospital by a blow from seamer Mitchell Starc.

"He (Maxwell) seems pretty good. He said he's been able to hold the bat no problem, it will just be a case of how he feels," Finch told reporters.

"At the end of the day, I think we will leave that call up to him, if he feels confident enough to get out there and do the job.

"All in all, he's a lot better than Shaun, obviously."

Finch says the team have rallied around to support Marsh, who has been replaced in the squad by batsman Peter Handscomb.

He was unfortunate to miss out on the World Cup after hitting a purple patch of form in the lead-up to the tournament.

"Shaun was obviously very disappointed. He is still in surgery at the moment, so we just wish him a speedy recovery. I think it hit the boys pretty hard," Finch said.

If Maxwell is not fit to face South Africa, Handscomb is likely to be drafted straight into the team.

"He will be 100 per cent ready to go," Finch said. "He was really stiff to miss out in the first place on the World Cup squad and every opportunity he's had recently with bat in hand, in the field, he's nailed."

Victory for Australia would mean they topped the table and set up a semi-final against New Zealand, avoiding two of the pre-tournament favourites in India and England.

It is a stunning reversal in fortunes for a side who had lost 20 of their previous 24 one-day international matches up to March this year.

"I think what's changed for us is our ability to win the key moments in games," Finch said. "The ability for somebody under any circumstances to put their hand up and play a key role to help win a game for Australia.

"That's not saying that wasn't happening. It was probably just guys would get the team into a position to win a game and then we wouldn't grab that key opportunity.

"So I think for me it's been about having a bit more experience around the group and guys who have been in World Cups, in tight series, in high-pressure environments, where they have got the job done before."

Indian middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu has announced retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday. Rayudu has written to&nbsp;The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI).&nbsp;

The decision came after he was snubbed for the Cricket World Cup 2019, which is underway in England and Wales.&nbsp;

He was not named in India's 15 member squad as all-rounder Vijay Shankar got the opportunity to play for Team India.&nbsp;

India made two replacements during the tournament as Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar were ruled out due to injury but still, Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal's names were preferred over Rayudu.

South Africa's players expressed bitter disappointment and even embarrassment after their elimination from the World Cup was ensured by their <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/pakistan-beat-south-africa-by-49-runs-to-end-proteas-world-cup-dream-229844">loss to Pakistan</a> at Lord's on Sunday but they said they would learn lessons and return stronger.

The Proteas' chances of progressing in the tournament evaporated after they logged their fifth loss in seven matches, making it mathematically impossible for them to secure a top-four spot and a place in the semi-finals.

"It's becoming where it's a little bit embarrassing. We're trying, but it's just not good enough. Obviously, I'm human as well so it will keep chipping away at me," captain Faf du Plessis told reporters after a 49-run defeat at Lord's.

"I'm a very proud player and captain, and playing for South Africa means a lot for me, and the fact (is) that the results we're dishing out at the moment - you know it's really, really tough," he said.

The team's headline bowler, paceman Kagiso Rabada, said the whole team felt like they had failed to play to their usual standard, both on Sunday and throughout the tournament.

"Pakistan turned up, and we didn't," he said.

"We're very disappointed. We tried so hard at practices and we spoke about what we needed to do, but unfortunately we just couldn't bring it out into the field of play. And that's what you have to do in tournaments like this.

"We try to prepare, we do our analysis. We come in with a good mindset - it's just execution is one thing that's been a question mark for us," added Rabada.

Du Plessis said the team had been running low on confidence as their losses piled up and turning that around rested mostly with each individual player.

"For me at the moment, it's a confidence thing. The guys are playing with low confidence and therefore making more mistakes," he said.

"The responsibility lies with every player to try and make sure that he comes to the park and gives everything, and if confidence is an issue, you need to sort it out yourself.

"You know, if I could I would get my wand out and get some runs on the table for our batters. But I can't, unfortunately."

Rabada and Du Plessis said the team had lessons to learn, and that they would be fighting to get things right next time.

"We'll definitely be back firing, looking to nail some of the things that we wanted to nail in this tournament," Rabada said.

Bangladesh's outstanding run chase against West Indies has given them the confidence to beat any team in the World Cup, captain Mashrafe Mortaza said ahead of Thursday's clash with in-form Australian at Trent Bridge.

Bangladesh overhauled West Indies' total of 321 with 51 balls to spare on Monday. They also beat South Africa and lie fifth in the standings, well in contention for a semi-final spot with four matches to go.

"That was a must-win game for us to stay in the tournament. I know a few players in our dressing-room who believe we can beat anybody," Mashrafe told reporters on Wednesday.

"Again, Australia is very difficult (to beat) but it's not impossible. If you have a good start you never know, so let's see."

Bangladesh's one-day international record against Australia has been poor, however, with only one win in 21 games against the defending champions who have won four of their first five games.

Australia fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have taken a combined 24 wickets in the World Cup and Mashrafe said Bangladesh will be wary of them.

"I think the Australian bowling attack has a lot of variation," Mashrafe said. "They have Pat Cummins, who can bowl with a change of pace. I think they have some good spinners. There's Nathan Lyon (and Adam) Zampa.

"So it won't be easy like the other matches but confidence is the main thing... If we took that confidence into the ground and deliver to our best, you never know."

Bangladesh will count on all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is the tournament's leading scorer with 384 runs, and Mashrafe said the rest of the team must take a cue from his match-winning performances.

"Shakib is brilliant," Mashrafe added. "Hopefully, he'll keep going. The way he's playing, I think we need to support him well as a team.

"(The) bowlers have to step up a little bit with what Shakib is doing. It's going to be a good batting track. Our bowlers have to... bowl really well to restrict the Australians."
