Amanpour&nbsp;added, "40 minutes after the interview had been due to start, an aide came over. The president, he said, was suggesting I wear a headscarf, because it’s the holy months of Muharram and Safar."

"I politely declined. We are in New York, where there is no law or tradition regarding headscarves. I pointed out that no previous Iranian president has required this when I interviewed them outside Iran," she further said.&nbsp;

The cancellation of this interview came even as Iran is facing unprecedented nationwide protests against the forced practice of hijab in the country. Public anger flared up in Iran since authorities announced the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who had been held by the morality police for allegedly wearing a hijab headscarf in an "improper" way and died&nbsp;in custody.&nbsp;

Amid massive outrage, some women demonstrators have defiantly taken off their hijabs and burned them in bonfires or symbolically cut their hair before cheering crowds.&nbsp;

The senior journalist mentioned in her tweets that the Iranian president's aide made it clear that the interview would not happen if she did not wear a headscarf and he said that it was "a matter of respect" and also referred to "the situation in Iran".&nbsp;

Raisi calls out double standards of West

Raisi&nbsp;also accused the West of "double standards" on women's rights as his country is gripped by protests over the death of a woman arrested by religious police.

"We have this double standard where attention is solely focused on one side and not all," the hardline cleric told the United Nations General Assembly, pointing to deaths of indigenous women in Canada and Israeli actions in the Palestinian territories.&nbsp;

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cleared a law that intends to punish journalists with a harsh jail term of up to 15 years for publishing “fake news” about the army.

The bill, which was adopted by lawmakers earlier on Friday, sets out jail terms of varying lengths and fines against people who publish "knowingly false information" about the military.

Journalists will also be penalised if they publish news contradicting officials' statements on Kremlin's war in Ukraine.

On Friday, Russia's media watchdog said it had restricted access to the BBC and other independent media websites and blocked social media giant Facebook.

The passage of law triggered pushback from western news outlets, with BBC, Canadian Broadcasting Corp (CBC), CNN and Bloomberg suspending their operations in the country.

BBC&nbsp;Director-General Tim Davie said the legislation "appears to criminalise the process of independent journalism".

&nbsp;"It leaves us no other option than to temporarily suspend the work of all BBC News journalists and their support staff within the Russian Federation while we assess the full implications of this unwelcome development," he said in a statement.

Bloomberg News said it was also temporarily suspending the work of its journalists inside Russia.

"The change to the criminal code, which seems designed to turn any independent reporter into a criminal purely by association, makes it impossible to continue any semblance of normal journalism inside the country," Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait said in a statement.

The CBC said it had temporarily suspended reporting from the ground in Russia so it could seek clarity on the new law.

In a statement, it said that it was ‘very concerned’ about the law, which ‘appears to criminalise independent reporting on the current situation in Ukraine and Russia’.

Putin clears law against ‘fake news’ on army; BBC, CNN, others suspend operations

Jeff Zucker resigned Wednesday as president of CNN and chair of WarnerMedia’s news and sports division, writing in a memo that he had failed to disclose to the company a romantic relationship with another senior executive at CNN.

Zucker, 56, is among the most powerful leaders in the American media and television industries. The abrupt end of his nine-year tenure immediately throws into flux the direction of CNN and its parent company, WarnerMedia, which is expected to be acquired later this year by Discovery Inc. in one of the nation’s largest media mergers.

In a memo to colleagues that was obtained by The New York Times, Zucker wrote that his relationship came up during a network investigation into the conduct of Chris Cuomo, the CNN anchor who was fired in December over his involvement in the political affairs of his brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York.

“As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years,” Zucker wrote. “I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t. I was wrong.

“As a result, I am resigning today,” he wrote.

Zucker was referring to Allison Gollust, CNN’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer and one of the highest-ranking leaders of the network, who is closely involved in major business and communications decisions.

Gollust said in a statement Wednesday that she was remaining in her role at CNN.

“Jeff and I have been close friends and professional partners for over 20 years,” she wrote. “Recently, our relationship changed during COVID. I regret that we didn’t disclose it at the right time. I’m incredibly proud of my time at CNN and look forward to continuing the great work we do everyday.”

Both Zucker and Gollust are divorced.

Chris Cuomo has contested the terms of his departure from CNN, which said it would not pay him severance or honor the remainder of his current contract. The anchor hired powerful Hollywood litigator Bryan Freedman to represent him in negotiations with the network.

Zucker had stood by Cuomo for months after it was revealed that the anchor had advised aides to Andrew Cuomo on how the governor could fend off the sexual harassment scandal that eventually led to his resignation. But Zucker dropped his support in December after more details emerged about Chris Cuomo’s involvement, including efforts to uncover the status of pending articles at other news outlets about his brother.

Days before Cuomo was fired, CNN was informed of an allegation of sexual misconduct against Cuomo by a former junior colleague at another network. Cuomo has denied that allegation.

In an industry known for its on-the-air talent, Zucker is perhaps the most recognizable figure among behind-the-scenes executives. "For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death... for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm," Biden said.&nbsp;

He added, "But there's good news. If you're vaccinated, and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death, period."

He has now been charged on three counts for using a facility of interstate commerce to sexually abuse minor girls.

As per the prosecutors, the accused used platforms like Google Hangouts and Kik for in 2020 to talk to parents of minor daughters. He sought permission from the parents to groom their minor daughters to be sexually submissive.

As per a release from US Attorney’s Office states, in June 2020, Griffin allegedly advised a mother of 9- and 13-year-old daughters that it was her responsibility to see that her older daughter was “trained properly.”

"Griffin later transferred over $3,000 to the mother for plane tickets so the mother and her 9-year-old daughter could fly from Nevada to Boston’s Logan airport," states the release.

There was also another incident which includes special allegations that Griffin attempted to entice two other children through the internet to engage in sexual activity. In April 2020, he allegedly tried to engage in a “virtual training session.”&nbsp;

This would include him instructing the mother and her 14-year-old daughter to remove their clothing and touch each other.

If convicted, Griffin faces 10 years of imprisonment on each federal count.

A spokesperson for CNN, in a statement, said, "The charges against Mr Griffin are deeply disturbing. We only learned of his arrest yesterday afternoon and have suspended him pending investigation."

Chris Cuomo, the anchor of America's TV network CNN and the younger brother of former New York governor Andrew Cuomo has been terminated by the network, "effective immediately."

CNN in a statement said, "Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother's defence. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately."

Earlier this year, in August, Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation as a result of a damning investigation by the state's attorney general.&nbsp;

The investigation revealed that the third-term Democrat sexually assaulted 11 women and attempted to retaliate against one of his accusers who went public with her claims.&nbsp;

“New York tough means New York loving, and I love New York and I love you,” Cuomo said, “I would never want to be unhelpful in any way, and I think given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government get back to governing, and therefore, that’s what I’ll do."

Cuomo's resignation was seen as a dramatic turnaround from a little over a year ago when he was hailed as a rising star in the Democratic Party for his administration's handling of the coronavirus outbreak.&nbsp;

“The fact that a foreign outlet like CNN are pulling out shows the degree of concern that Australia's laws have not kept up with the pace of technological change,” Matt Collins, a prominent defamation lawyer, told Reuters.

CNN would have no equivalent exposure in the United States and relatively little exposure in Britain or other English-speaking countries like New Zealand, he added.

This letter has once again amplified the aggressive nature followed by the Trump administration to keep an eye on the reporters who were trying to uncover the links between the former president and the Russian government, and its involvement in the US election 2016.

A few weeks ago, the Washington Post has claimed that the Justice Department has sent letters to three reporters — Ellen Nakashima and Greg Miller, and former Post reporter Adam Entous —and informed them that the department had received work, cell, or home phone records for the period of April 15, 2017, to July 31, 2017.

This poll was conducted by CNN with&nbsp;SSRS, an independent research company. In this poll, nearly 1,005 American voters were approached and questioned between October 23-26, 2020. The interviews were conducted through telephone.

As per the results, among those who have voted,&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;leads by&nbsp;64 per cent to 34 per cent votes for&nbsp;Trump. The category of people who were yet to vote, at the time of being interviewed, also favoured Biden&nbsp;with 63 per cent lead&nbsp;and Trump lagging behind with 33 per cent.

However, a shift in results is seen in the category of the voters who plan to vote on November 03 with Trump leading with&nbsp;59 per cent, and&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;securing only 36 per cent voters' attention.

When the voter category is shifted to demographics of women versus men, women are still preferring the Democrats by 61 per cent and only&nbsp;37 per cent women supporting Republicans — with women of colour favouring Biden by 77 per cent and 54&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;white women also giving votes to Biden.&nbsp;Men, on the other hand, have a very small difference between the two leaders with Trump leading the race with 48 per cent and Biden matching up with 47 per cent — with men of colour giving a lead to&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;by&nbsp;64 per cent but white men favouring&nbsp;Trump&nbsp;with 56 per cent.

Another interesting observation made in this poll has been that American voters with college degrees, and higher, are favouring&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;whereas people without degrees are split evenly. Similarly,&nbsp;49 per cent white women without college degrees&nbsp;favour Biden and same with&nbsp;Trump.

Nearly 48 per cent of&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;supporters have also revealed that their vote is mainly a vote against the current President rather than a vote in favour of&nbsp;Joe Biden.&nbsp;On the other hand,&nbsp;79 per cent&nbsp;trump&nbsp;supporters have said their vote is in favour of the President rather than against his rival.

Overall,&nbsp;Biden&nbsp;is still leading the polls for the upcoming US election 2020, but&nbsp;Trump,&nbsp;too, can gain the lead if the political environment in the country keeps shifting. The final result of the elections will be revealed a little later than the estimated time period due to the majority votes being cast by mail-in.&nbsp;

Theodore Boutrous, a lawyer for CNN and Acosta, said the White House was punishing Acosta for the contents of his reporting. "The White House cannot be permitted to cast out and punish reporters with whom it disagrees," CNN said in its court filing.

The White House Correspondents Association said revoking Acosta's credentials was a disproportionate reaction to what happened at the news conference.

A federal judge said he would hold a hearing on Wednesday on CNN's lawsuit against the Trump administration seeking the speedy reinstatement of press credentials for White House correspondent Jim Acosta, a frequent target of President Donald Trump. In its lawsuit filed on Tuesday in US District Court in Washington, the cable news network said the White House violated the First Amendment right to free speech as well as the due process clause of the Constitution providing fair treatment through judicial process. The network asked for a temporary restraining order. Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary, dismissed the action as "just more grandstanding from CNN, and we will vigorously defend against this lawsuit." US District Judge Timothy Kelly on Tuesday ordered the Trump administration to respond to the lawsuit by 11 am (1600 GMT) on Wednesday and he set a hearing for 3:30 pm (2030 GMT) that day on the request for a restraining order. Kelly, a former lawyer for the Senate Judiciary Committee, was nominated to the bench by Trump last year. The White House revoked Acosta's credentials last week in an escalation of the Republican president's attacks on the news media, which he has dubbed the "enemy of the people." Trump has intensified his criticism of the reporters who cover him, making personal jabs in response to questions he does not like, including those about Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe of whether his campaign worked with Russia to sway the 2016 presidential election. Trump denies any collusion took place. CNN, and Acosta in particular, have been regular targets of the president. The day after the November 6 congressional elections, Trump erupted into anger during a news conference when Acosta questioned him about the Russia probe and a migrant caravan travelling through Mexico. "That's enough, that's enough," Trump told Acosta last Wednesday, as a White House intern attempted to take the microphone away from the correspondent. "You are a rude, terrible person." The White House suspended his credentials later that day, with Sanders alleging that Acosta had put his hands on the intern who was trying to take the microphone from him. Videos of the encounter show Acosta pulling back as the intern moved to take the microphone. 'COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANYONE' "While the suit is specific to CNN and Acosta, this could have happened to anyone," CNN said in a statement. "If left unchallenged, the actions of the White House would create a dangerous chilling effect for any journalist who covers our elected officials." The lawsuit noted that Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday there "could be others also." Theodore Boutrous, a lawyer for CNN and Acosta, said the White House was punishing Acosta for the contents of his reporting. "The White House cannot be permitted to cast out and punish reporters with whom it disagrees," CNN said in its court filing. The White House Correspondents Association said revoking Acosta's credentials was a disproportionate reaction to what happened at the news conference. "The President of the United States should not be in the business of arbitrarily picking the men and women who cover him," it said. US Representative Jerrold Nadler, who is likely to become the Democratic chairman of the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee in January, supported the CNN lawsuit. "@CNN is right to fight back against the cynical, unfair, and authoritarian treatment of @Acosta for doing his job," he said in a Twitter post.
