'Avengers: Endgame' world premiere: Marvel superheroes descend in Los Angeles in style

The world premiere of the much-awaited Marvel film ‘Avengers: Endgame’ took place in Los Angeles on Monday as actors Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Robert Downey Jr.

The world premiere of the much-awaited Marvel film ‘Avengers: Endgame’ took place in Los Angeles on Monday as actors Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and others got together. The world premiere was a gala event and the film is said to be one of the most sought-after-movie in recent history. In India, the ticket sales of the film have already shot up with more than 1 million advance ticket sales being recorded in the country. Earlier, to keep the buzz alive, director Anthony Russo spoke on the teaser and said, 'maybe it's all fake'. <p>Joe of the Anthony-Joe duo said that they were extra careful about ‘Endgame’ as it contains a lot more spoilers than its predecessor ‘Infinity War’. He said, "We kept it going even more so than 'Endgame'. There are more secrets in 'Endgame' than there are 'Infinity War'.”</p>

Now that Fox is part of Disney, the stars of the X-Men movies could be joining the Avengers -- or they could be out of jobs. Both sets of heroes hail from Marvel comic books, but corporate business decisions over the past several decades kept them apart when it came to movies -- the X-Men were with Fox, Spider-Man was with Sony. The Avengers and other characters eventually found a home under Marvel Studios, which Disney bought in 2009.

In one of the final scenes all the Ultrons were supposed to form a large Ultron and Avengers were set to fight that but the sequence got cut for time. It was this close. I was inspired directly by 'Robot'," said the director while addressing the press in Mumbai on Monday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The filmmaker seemed to be quite impressed by Indian films and revealed how he is in talks with Priyanka Chopra for a project.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 47-year-old filmmaker, who is known for giving Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) a grounded tone along with his brother Anthony Russo, finds Priyanka "fantastic" and would love to work with her.</p>

<p>"Priyanka is transitioning into global status now. She is fantastic... (I would) Love to work with her... I am potentially talking to Priyanka for something. I am not going to say what it is," Russo said in a group interview here.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last year, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige had said that they are planning to make a standalone on superhero Ms Marvel aka Kamala Khan. After the news broke, many fans on social media expressed their desire to see Priyanka playing the character of Marvel's first Muslim superhero.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The filmmaker said as an action director, Indian films like 'Dabangg' series were an interesting watch for him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I'm an action director so I saw 'Dabangg' many years ago. I still have to see 'Dabangg 2'. I thought the camera work was great in those movies. The tone and energy is also great. So, I certainly know Salman Khan," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russo also said that how it was important to promote the film in India and Marvel has a strong fan base in the country. "There was a recording of an Indian audience watching the 'Infinity War' and the moment Thor lands, the cheers sounded like a football stadium. We used to play that recording whenever we would get tired (working) on 'Endgame' because it took us two years to make that movie.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We would just play that recording and get reinspired.This response from the audience is why we make these movies. We know there is an excited fanbase here."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russo added that if Marvel planned&nbsp;to introduce an Indian superhero, he would bat for a Bollywood star to play the part.&nbsp;"I will pick Bollywood stars to play Indian superheroes. I think moving forward, you are going to see a really diverse Marvel universe.&nbsp;It is really important for all the audiences around the world because these movies are so global. They should be able to identify with a character on the screen. I think you are going to see that really soon," the filmmaker said.</p>

It is also the first time a female director, Anna Boden, is driving a superhero film in Marvel's stable with her "equal" collaborator of 20 years, Ryan Fleck.&nbsp;<br />

"I feel so lucky that I made my first blockbuster movie and I just get to talk about feminism all day.</p>

<p>Boden said as challenging as directing the film was, it was also empowering to be at the helm of big studio production.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shouldering a stand-alone introductory film of a female hero in the aftermath of Harvey Weinstein scandal is a big responsibility.</p>

<p>The director duo said they did an "all expenses paid" course at 'Marvel University', where they were supported by the team well-versed with the MCU history, which was unfamiliar terrain for them.</p>

<p>Despite the training, directing "Captain Marvel" was a "scary and humbling" experience for Boden though the directors don't feel any obligation towards "Endgame" where Captain Marvel is already set to play an integral role as the post-credit scenes in "Infinity War" revealed.</p>

<p>"Honestly, since they won't tell us anything about 'Avengers'? They have a lock and key on that, we feel no commitment and responsibility to that movie at all. We're just focused on our movie," she told PTI.</p>

Eighty years after his debut in Action Comics #1, dated June 1938, Superman is still an American cultural icon, the hero of reference and the undisputed star of DC Comics. And today, the comic book publisher -- also known for Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern, among others -- is counting on Superman more than ever. "He is the mould people worked with, the template for the idea of a superhero," explains Jared Smith, who works in a comic book store in Washington. "Superman is a very idealized character. They call him the Boy Scout of America. He always does the right thing and tries do to the good thing." In Action Comics #1, 13 pages were dedicated to the story of Kal-El, an alien from the planet Krypton with supernatural strength, sent to Earth by his father before his home planet was destroyed. Superman's debut was a smash success. A year later, DC Comics gave the Man of Steel his own book and introduced another formidable hero: Batman. Eighty years on, the formula has not changed: Superman has more or less always appeared in his red, blue and yellow suit with the "S" symbol on the chest. In his appearances on the silver and small screen, in comic strips and video games, he has fought for truth, justice and the "American Way." In Illinois, the town of Metropolis -- which shares a name with Superman's fictional home -- organizes an annual festival celebrating the hero. This summer, on the heels of a "Man of Steel" mini-series, DC Comics will reboot the standalone "Superman" series. For the challenge, they tapped Brian Michael Bendis, a legend in the genre who worked for two decades at rival publisher Marvel. "You always feel the legacy of the character when you hop on, and I've had that joy a couple of times, but there's something different about Superman," Bendis said in an interview with pop culture website Nerdist. "I think there's something fascinating about the fact that not only did this character invent the genre but it stayed true and became the core, soul, and centre of the genre for the entirety of its existence." Superman is an immigrant on Earth, raised by a farmer and his wife from infancy in fictional Smallville. Eventually, he takes the name Clark Kent, moves to Metropolis and becomes a journalist. His two creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, were Jewish high school students when they first came up with the idea for Superman. Their parents were immigrants, and their character personified the American dream -- a metaphor for immigrants who fled Europe in the 1930s for the peace and prosperity of America. It's a theme that Bendis plans to pick up. "People would come from all over the world just to live in Metropolis, to be watched over by the most famous immigrant," Bendis told The Washington Post. "It's not going to be this huge message, it's just going to be there -- just flavour, the way we see the world." From time to time in the past, Superman's popularity waned -- his chiselled perfection was sometimes too much for an imperfect audience, who turned to Spider-Man and the X-Men, whose flaws they could identify with more readily. "They made him so powerful as a character that there was nothing that could really threaten him, so after that, they introduced the idea of Kryptonite from his planet that could take away some of his powers," Smith explains. To keep Superman in step with society, writers tried to keep him in sync with political and societal changes of the times -- in 1978, he met boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who took him to the ghettos of Metropolis. More recently, Superman wanted to surrender his American nationality in protest at the government, which he felt had betrayed him. In another storyline, he saved migrant workers from a white supremacist, a nod to far-right violence seen in some corners of the country. Smith even recalls that the Man of Steel had something of a "socialist start," fighting capitalists "who were taking too much money or not treating their workers well" in the 1930s and 1940s. As ever, he fights for the American Way, whatever the definition.

'Avengers Infinity War' beats 'Padmaavat' with Rs 120 crore collection in first three days

<p>"Avengers: Infinity War" took North America by storm, opening with $250 million in 4,474 theaters. While numbers could fluctuate before an official tally comes in on Monday, that would surpass "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" for the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time. "The Force Awakens" bowed with $248 million in 2015.</p>

<p>The superhero tentpole, which cost between $300 million and $400 million, opened worldwide with $630 million, making it the highest global opening weekend of all time, even without China debuting this weekend.</p>

It is about what it costs to be a hero in a complicated world and to see value of the cost. And, all the heroes have to answer that question. Joe Russo on Oscars snub: There is a stigma towards superhero films

<p>He is one of the few stars who knows how the story of "Avengers: Infinity War" unfolds, but do not expect any spoilers from Benedict Cumberbatch as he says he is good at "keeping secrets".</p>

<p>The 41-year-old actor, who plays Doctor Strange in the much-awaited movie, said it was not a curious fan in him, but an old-school performer that demanded the script from Marvel.<br />

"I am kind of old-school in terms of filmmaking. I don't know how I managed to get the complete script. I am good at keeping secrets. As a fan, I didn't want to know what was going on, but as a character I had to understand the bracket in which I had to be operating. Marvel has been very guarded throughout the production of "Infinity War". So much so that directors Joe and Anthony Russo kept the full script out of the stars' hands only providing them with their scenes.<br />

At the beginning of the worldwide promotional campaign of the film, the duo also put out a letter appealing to the fans to keep spoilers to themselves.<br />
<br />
Cumberbatch said reading the script made no difference as he is confident that there will be many more surprises for him when he finally catches the film at its premiere.</p>

<p>"It doesn't make a difference. I will be sitting in the premiere and going like, 'Did I read that?'. A Marvel film is never what it is on script and that's what the joy is. There is a great fluidity and improvisation," he said.<br />

Set to release on April 27, "Infinity War" is the biggest superhero saga to be witnessed by the audiences ever, with fan favourites such as Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Black Panther among others, joining forces to defeat the most powerful villain, Thanos.<br />
<br />
And while fans are curious as to who emerges unharmed in the climax, Cumberbatch said the film is all about staying "united".<br />

"We strongly stand together. 'We are united' that's what the feeling you get from the Avengers. It is about putting away your differences and uniting. These Marvel films always bring people together. They always have science, logic, social and political tones. This one is about 'United We Stand'."<br />

The actor said working on the film was a "big deal" for him as a number of people have devoted their lives in creating this magical universe of superheroes which inspires generations.<br />

"This film is a big deal. This doesn't happen every day. Making this film may be just 10 years of the talents' life, but years of work by many people to get to this place. It is pretty hard. I am like 'holy crap? To be a part of something like this extraordinary without repeating'," he said.<br />

"I went to dinner of the Avengers and there I realised that many people have given their lives and families and their children to make it a huge success. It was incredible to see the first clip of the film at D23 (Expo). I was pretending not to cry thinking that it would be it be a little bit hysterical. It was generally very moving not just because of the arc of the story but the time people have invested in this unique enterprise," the actor added.<br />

Staying true to his English sense of humour, the actor said if given a chance, he would like to play Groot from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" as it is "like a walk in the park".<br />

He also shared that it took him around two-and-a-half hours to get ready for his role of Doctor Strange.<br />

"I watch Netflix during that time. I eat when they are putting make-up and that drives them crazy. It is difficult. Also, I meditate a lot at that time," he added.<br />

Earlier in the day, during a press conference, Cumberbatch and Iron Man Robert Downey Jr left everyone in splits when they were asked if they ever shared a "Sherlock" joke on the sets.<br />

To which Cumberbatch funnily replied, "There wasn't any joke and I hope there isn't any in future."<br />

Downey Jr played the legendary detective in 2009 film "Sherlock Holmes" and its 2011 sequel, while Cumberbatch essayed the title role in a crime drama TV series based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories.</p>
