Tropical Cyclone Narelle has strengthened into a Category 5 storm and could lash the Queensland coast. Experts are calling it a "serious" event that has barely been witnessed in the past decades. If Narelle crosses the Queensland coast, it will only be the fourth time it has happened in 50 years. If the storm crosses over the coast between Lockhart River and Cooktown, it will be the first time in over 100 years, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said. The Category 5 storm is expected to cross the coast Friday morning, with intense rainfall and strong winds lashing the coastal regions. This will create a risk of flash flooding in the region. Narelle has been tracked moving towards the coast between Lockhart River and Cooktown. Crisafulli said preparations are being made to weather the storm, and people have been warned to take precautions. "It's a serious event, a significant event, and we're asking people to take precautions and do the little things that make all the difference," Nine News quoted the Premier as saying.
Tropical Cyclone Narelle path
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, wind gusts will reach in excess of 225km/hr. Cape Tribulation to Lockhart River and inland to the western side of the Cape form the cyclone zone with warnings in place. Crisafulli said that the storm is expected to weaken as it crosses over. However, "it still has the potential to have some serious winds as it goes across those communities all the way across." After crossing over Cape York Peninsula as a tropical cyclone, it will move west across the Gulf of Carpentaria. It will then reach the eastern Northern Territory over the weekend, and is likely to once again strengthen into a severe tropical cyclone. Narelle is forecast to reintensify off the Kimberley coast next week and will then shift into the Indian Ocean. Also Read: Air India suspends all flights to New York, Newark due to severe winter storm
About Tropical Cyclone Narelle - A very compact cyclone
Tropical Cyclone Narelle formed in the Coral Sea. The group had traveled abroad for a tournament but refused to return to Iran amid fears of retaliation during the ongoing war climate.

Earlier, five players were granted asylum by Australia, while another player and a member of the coaching staff later chose to stay and apply for protection as well. The athletes reportedly faced intense backlash at home and were branded “war-time traitors” by hardline voices after their decision not to return.

A woman in Australia was arrested trying to smuggle nearly 40kg of methamphetamine. The 32-year-old was coming to Sydney from South Africa and was carrying two suitcases. Border Force officers grew suspicious of their contents and did a search. They found meth worth around $36.7 million in her two suitcases. In the first suitcase, she was carrying 20kg of white powder in vacuum-sealed bags, while in the second suitcase, officers found 19kg of it. The powder was tested, and the results showed that it was methamphetamine, a total of 39 kgs. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) took her into custody, Nine News reported. She has been charged with one count of importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug and one count of possessing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. She faces life imprisonment for the crime. The officers at the airport grew suspicious as the X-ray of her bags allegedly identified anomalies in both suitcases. “This amount of methamphetamine, had it reached the Australian community, had an estimated street value of about $36.7 million, with the potential for about 390,000 street-level deals,” Australian Federal Police said in a statement. In the past few months, several drug busts have been made in Australia. Reports say that seven people have been charged and more than 100kg of illicit substances have been seized at the border. AFP Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden said, “We have disrupted these criminal supply chains, and these arrests should serve as a warning to criminal syndicates attempting to import harmful drugs into our country – we are ready and waiting, and you will be caught.”
Drug busts in Australia
On 22 January, Australian Border Force officers at Sydney Airport intercepted two passengers - a Briton and a Dutch.
