Arsenal&nbsp;substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice in three minutes and captain Mesut Ozil played a starring role as they extended their winning run with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League on Monday.

Substitute Aubameyang was in the right place to tap into an empty net in the 63rd minute to give Arsenal&nbsp;the lead and was on hand to finish a team move in the 66th that was orchestrated by Ozil, who had scored their first goal to put them level.

Arsenal&nbsp;stretched their winning streak in all competitions to 10 games and rose to fourth with 21 points from nine games, two points behind Manchester City and Liverpool and level with third-placed Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in fifth.

After falling behind to a Hector Bellerin own goal just past the half-hour mark,&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;grew into the game and midfielder Ozil stroked in an equaliser off the post just before halftime.

Ozil, who was skipper for the night, hit a left-footed first-time shot past goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel after surging from the halfway line and exchanging passes with Bellerin.

The German was at the heart of&nbsp;Arsenal's third goal too, sparking the move with a flicked backheel, then dummying a pass before continuing his run to receive a first-time ball from Alexandre Lacazette before dinking it over the onrushing Schmeichel to leave Aubameyang with the simplest of finishes.

Ozil tweeted that&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;had played "sexy" football and that he was proud to be captain. Manager Unai Emery agreed with the assessment of the performance but said the midfielder could lead the team by example even when he does not wear the armband.

"From Mesut Ozil today, it's a very good performance," Emery said. "I think he can play very much with this commitment, behaviour, also with his quality, (as) captain or not captain."

Leicester had started stronger at The Emirates and wing-back Ben Chilwell forced the opening goal when his cross deflected off Bellerin into the&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;net in the 31st minute.

They could also have had a penalty after&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;centre-back Rob Holding handled the ball seconds after being booked.

"For me it was a penalty and a sending off," said Leicester manager Claude Puel. "At this moment, with our domination in the game, we could have continued our performance, this great performance, 11 against 10."

Arsenal's next game is at Crystal Palace on Sunday, after they play Sporting in the Europa League in Lisbon on Thursday, while Leicester City will host West Ham United on Saturday.

Thierry Henry has "everything" needed to become a good manager, France coach and former international teammate Didier Deschamps said of the newly-named Monaco coach.

"Thierry's ready," Deschamps told TF1. "He has everything" to be a good coach.

"He's throwing himself into an exciting, exhilarating project where he'll have to take responsibility. It'll be up to him to take the reins."

Former Arsenal star Henry was named Monaco coach on Saturday, his first job in club management after leaving his position with the Belgian national team.

The 41-year-old French World Cup winner, who had been working as an assistant to Belgium coach Roberto Martinez since 2016, returns to the club where he began his professional career.

Henry replaces Leonardo Jardim, who in 2017 guided Monaco to their first Ligue 1 title since 2000. He was sacked on Thursday after a string of poor results left Monaco in the relegation places.

Deschamps, who captained the France team featuring Henry that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, also started his coaching career at Monaco, back in 2001.

"The first season was very complicated," he said, wishing Henry "lots of courage and big success".

Aaron Ramsey plans to stay at Arsenal for the rest of this season and not make a cut-price January move after the collapse of contract talks with the Premier League club.

Arsenal could attempt to cash in on the 27-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window, with top Premier League, La Liga and Serie A clubs reportedly monitoring the situation.

But Ramsey, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, said: "I am contracted to Arsenal and I am going to do my best now this season to try and achieve something special.

"Everything has been going great with the club. We thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that's no longer the case.

"So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season and I'll leave the rest with the club now."

The Wales international, who scored a stunning back-heel effort in Arsenal's 5-1 win at Fulham on Sunday, has scored 59 goals in 338 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Cardiff in 2008.

Asked if he was disappointed that there was no contract on the table, Ramsey said: "That's a decision they (Arsenal) have made and things happen in football. You just have to get on with it and carry on playing the best I can."

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said recently that Ramsey's contract situation would not affect his performances.

"Each player, they have their individual situations with their contracts," Emery said of Ramsey. "He is an important player and he will be helping the team with his performance."

Aaron Ramsey to see out season at Arsenal after talks fail

Aaron Ramsey netted a beautiful and well-constructed goal in <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/arsenal-run-riot-in-second-half-to-win-5-1-at-fulham-170034">Arsenal's 5-1 win over Fulham</a> on Sunday, which is definitely a contender for goal of the season.

The wonder goal has proved why Ramsey's stay with the Gunners is important and why he will be such a loss if, as expected, he leaves the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The goal was conceptualised by the 27-year-old midfielder, who began and ended a wonderful free-flowing move, just 39 seconds after coming on as a 67th-minute substitute.

Earlier, Arsenal's manager&nbsp;Unai Emery remained tight-lipped about a <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/midfielder-aaron-ramsey-unsure-of-arsenal-future-154701">new deal for Ramsey</a> and a contract offer to the midfielder was withdrawn last month.

Irrespective of that, Ramsey showed his quality when he created and finished a stunning team move to help Arsenal to a ninth straight win in all competitions - their best run since April 2015.

First, he dinked the ball over a defender deep in his own half before running on to make two key headers around the halfway line to allow the push forward to keep its momentum.

Finally, he met Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's low cross with a delicate flick with the inside of his boot to beat Marcus Bettinelli in the Fulham goal and conjure memories of the sort of goals Dutch great Johan Cruyff used to score.

"It was an important goal for Aaron and an important goal for us," said manager Unai Emery with more than a touch of understatement.

"The best performer for us is every player."

Although Emery has said he would like to keep Ramsey, but he is clearly not short of midfield options, with Alex Iwobi impressing before being replaced by the Welshman and Germany's Mesut Ozil to come back in after missing Sunday's game with an injury.

"I believe in us, we believe in our process but also we must keep taking confidence. I think we are in the first competition in the war. It is very difficult but we must prepare, continue improving and show big commitment," said Emery.

Watch: Aaron Ramsey's wonder goal for Arsenal against Fulham

Two goals from Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette, a wonderful back-heeled strike from Aaron Ramsey and two more from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;a 5-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Sunday.

Fulham pressed forward in the opening minutes as they looked for their first win over&nbsp;Arsenal since January 2012, and Argentine midfielder Luciano Vietto very nearly beat Gunners keeper Bernd Leno in the second minute.

Fulham's powerful Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic also had a number of half-chances but was unable to get any clear shots in on goal, with perhaps his best attempt a thumped volley over the bar from outside the area.

Against the run of play, Lacazette opened the scoring in the 29th minute for&nbsp;Arsenal, collecting a pass from Nacho Monreal, spinning round past defender Tim Ream and rifling the ball low into the corner of the net from close range.

Fulham's Andre Schurrle levelled the score just before the break, chipping calmly over Leno for his third league goal since joining the Cottagers in the summer on loan from Borussia Dortmund.

But the visitors ran rampant in the second half, with three unanswered goals.

Lacazette scored his fourth league goal of the season before substitute Ramsey back-heeled in an exquisite third for the Gunners after a pass across the area from Aubameyang.

The Gabonese striker then took the game away from the home side with two more goals that left Fulham with the worst defensive record in the league by a distance, having let in four more goals than any other team.

"We worked very hard in the second half for this result,"&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;manager Unai Emery told reporters.

"We need to be the same way in our matches: calm, finding our best performance and combination of players," he said when asked about the win,&nbsp;Arsenal's ninth in a row in all competitions.

The loss leaves the Cottagers on the edge of the relegation zone in 17th place, while&nbsp;Arsenal move up to third above Tottenham on goal difference and ahead of Chelsea who play at Southampton later in the day.

"We don't show the Premier League level, and this is our situation," Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic told reporters.

"Today we tried, we offered some positive signs, but it's not enough."

Arsenal run riot in second half to win 5-1 at Fulham

Unai Emery insists Arsenal won't be allowed to use their hectic schedule as an excuse for a poor performance when they face Fulham on Sunday.

Emery's side head to Craven Cottage bidding to extend their winning streak to nine matches in all competitions.

But Arsenal will be battling fatigue after touching down in London in the early hours of Friday morning, following a 4,000km flight from Azerbaijan, where they beat Qarabag 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday.

It is hardly ideal preparation for an important Premier League clash, but Emery tried to guard against burn-out by resting several players against Qarabag.

And regardless of the potential for dwindling energy levels after the gruelling European trip, the Spaniard believes his stars should be able to cope.

"For us it's not a problem to play on Thursday and then on Sunday because we want to play a lot of matches and a lot of competitions," Emery said.

"We also want to give the players the chances and opportunities to play, to give them confidence, responsibility and rhythm like today for all our players.

"The players who sometimes don't play were used against Qarabag. But then also, maybe players who featured against Qarabag can play on Sunday too.

"We can do that with some players. For us it's very important on Sunday to produce the best performance."

The Gunners should be able to use the momentum from their impressive winning run to keep them firing on all cylinders in the London derby.

Arsenal, up to fifth place after recovering from their slow start to the season, are vying to win six successive Premier League matches within a single campaign for the first time since August to October 2016.

'Big challenge'

They could earn three consecutive away league victories for the first time in two years, but Emery won't be taking Fulham for granted.

"Fulham is a very big challenge for us, first because it's away and second because each match in the Premier League is very, very difficult," Emery said.

"Fulham bought very good players like Seri, like Anguissa, and they have Mitrovic and Schurrle too. It's a very good team and I think their coach is a very good coach with experience in England.

"We need to push against them on Sunday and also show our best performance. Our idea is to be focused on Sunday with all of our players."

Arsenal hope Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will have recovered from illness, while Aaron Ramsey could play depending on the timing of his child's birth.

Bernd Leno will make his first Premier League start, with Petr Cech ruled out by a hamstring injury.

A Fulham defeat on Sunday would equal the club's worst start after eight top-flight matches.

They have won only one of their seven games and Slavisa Jokanovic's side hold the division's joint worst defensive record, conceding 16 goals along with Cardiff and Huddersfield.

"There's huge room for improvement. We are working to find our best formation, Jokanovic said.

"We're not at our best level, and we need to continue to work hard to reach that level. We need to be more ambitious, show more aggression, spirit, desire and intensity.

"After two hard games, Arsenal have found stability. They're a team in form, a big club and a good team.&nbsp;

"We need to be motivated, and we will be ready for the battle."

Arsenal can cope with hectic schedule, insists Emery

Former manager Arsene Wenger sometimes put the 'Arsenal way' of trying to play beautiful football above winning during his final years at the London club, according to goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Wenger departed in May after 22 years in charge having endured a barrage of criticism in the latter part of his reign for a tactical approach that resulted in 14 seasons without a Premier League title.

"What we lacked in the past - I would say the 'Arsenal way' was more important than getting the points sometimes and this is not how you win the league," Cech was quoted by The Independent as telling reporters after Sunday's 2-0 home win over Everton.

"Sometimes you need to make sure you win an ugly game, when you are not playing completely well but you just dig deep, close the back door and win 1-0 no matter how. I think this is what we lacked over the last three years, since I arrived (in 2015)."

Spaniard Unai Emery took over as head coach on a three-year contract in May and, after a tricky sunai emtart, has steered Arsenal to four straight victories as he tries to shape a team that can bring a 14th league title to the club.

Cech, 36, said Emery was bringing back the qualities required to win trophies that had gone missing under Wenger, whose last season in charge resulted in a sixth-place finish, 37 points behind champions Manchester City.

"Against Everton, we went through difficult moments in the game but we managed to get the win and with the clean sheet so this is very positive," the former Czech international told British media.

"I think the place has become much more demanding in every way so this is great to see because this is what initially drives everybody forward and gives you the kind of kick that: ‘I’m not doing enough to start the game’ or ‘I’m not doing enough to keep my spot in the game,’ because the manager asked for precision and hard work every day.

"This is how it should be. We have very healthy competition and we are actually taking the benefit of it."

Cech, who won four league titles in his time at Chelsea, faces competition for his starting spot from the club's new signing, 26-year-old Germany international Bernd Leno.

"This club hasn’t won the league for over 10 years so obviously you need to get back to knowing how to do it," Cech added.

"We started with the new manager from scratch, basically, and we try to get this mentality of winning every game, progressing every game, working every day and, hopefully, we can build this up and win the title sooner rather than later."

I think this is what we lacked over the last three years, since I arrived (in 2015)." Spaniard Unai Emery took over as head coach on a three-year contract in May and, after a tricky sunai emtart, has steered Arsenal to four straight victories as he tries to shape a team that can bring a 14th league title to the club. We have very healthy competition and we are actually taking the benefit of it." Cech, who won four league titles in his time at Chelsea, faces competition for his starting spot from the club's new signing, 26-year-old Germany international Bernd Leno.

EPL wrap: Things we learned from Premier League Matchday 6

Arsenal broke down a determined Everton defence to win 2-0 on Sunday, with second-half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang giving the Gunners their fourth straight Premier League victory.

Everton had created most of the early chances as they looked for their first victory at Arsenal since January 1996.

Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both fired in a number of shots, the Brazilian in particular leaving Gunners defender Hector Bellerin in his wake repeatedly as he turned and darted towards goal. But both were unable to beat Arsenal keeper Petr Cech, who was determined to register his side's first clean sheet of the season.&nbsp;

Late in the half, Everton defender Lucas Digne also went close, whipping in a free kick from just outside the area that Cech deftly tipped back over the bar.

Arsenal by contrast seemed to lack a finishing touch despite having two-thirds of the possession, with striker Lacazette often failing to control the ball when passed to.

The Frenchman found his feet just short of the hour mark, however, running in from the left before elegantly curling the ball into the far corner just beyond the reach of outstretched England keeper Jordan Pickford.

Gabon international Aubameyang doubled the lead two minutes later from what appeared to be an offside position, sending Pickford the wrong way from close range.

"A big thanks to Petr Cech because he took a lot of balls today and we won our first clean sheet," Lacazette told Sky Sports.&nbsp;

The win pushes the Gunners up to sixth in the table with 12 points, six points adrift of leaders Liverpool, while the Toffees stay in 12th place with six points.

Injury-plagued midfielder Santi Cazorla has left Arsenal after six seasons in north London as his contract has expired, the Premier League club has said.

The 33-year-old has not played since October 2016 and underwent several operations, one resulting in a loss of eight centimetres from the tendon in his right ankle.

He also nearly lost his foot after contracting gangrene.

"I'm very sad to be leaving after so many great times. I have loved my time with the club and I will always remember the special moments we had together," Cazorla said in a video message on Arsenal's website https://www.arsenal.com/news/santi-cazorla-leaves-club.

Cazorla made 180 appearances for Arsenal and scored 29 goals after joining the club from Spanish side Malaga in 2012.

He helped the team capture two FA Cups -- in 2014 when he scored and was the Man of the match, and 2015.

The technically astute playmaker returned to full training in the latter part of last season but failed to earn a new contract despite his comeback from serious injury.

"Santi is always one of my favourite players to watch. His natural ability with both feet, his speed of thought and movement were central to our best performances in recent years," Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said in a statement.

"He plays with a joy and freedom which is very rare. We wish him well for the future and thank him for his important contribution to our club."

Santi Cazorla bids farewell to Arsenal after reaching end of contract

Arsene Wenger admits he is still in shock after the curtain finally came down on his 22-year-reign as Arsenal manager and told The Guardian he will decide by the start of the World Cup as to do next.

The 68-year-old Frenchman -- whose trophy-laden reign at the Gunners came to an end without any silverware in his final season and failed to secure Champions League football for next term -- said he hadn't discounted taking on a different role. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Wenger -- who is to attend the World Cup in Russia as a pundit for Qatari-owned TV channel Bein Sports -- stood down a year before his contract was due to end amid increasing discontent &nbsp;both among the fans and the board. &nbsp;

"It's just too soon to know what I will do next," he told The Guardian in an interview conducted in Paris this week shortly after he had taken charge of his 1,235th and final match in the Arsenal dugout -- a 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town.

"I haven't even emptied my desk yet and in a way I am still in a state of shock.

"I am going to give myself until June 14, the day the World Cup begins, to decide.

"The question is do I still want to coach, to be on the bench, or is it time to take up different functions? The one thing I can say for sure is that I will continue to work."

Wenger, who guided Arsenal to three Premier League titles, including the famous Invincibles 2003-04 unbeaten season, and seven FA Cups, said he wasn't certain whether, at his age, he wanted to go through the emotional turmoil of being a manager.

"But do I want to continue to suffer as much?" said Wenger.

"I want to continue to defend my ideas of football, that's for sure. Spontaneously, I would say I still want to coach but I can't really say that yet for sure."

'Write new chapters'

Wenger, who says he has not held discussions about a potential role with the Qatari owners of French champions Paris Saint Germain, with whom he has close links and who he advised them to buy the club, concedes he is too restless to just loll around kicking his heels. &nbsp;

"I have friends who can go and lay on a beach all day long for the whole of their holidays and I envy them," he said.

"I just can't do that. I get bored. I need to be doing something. I need a challenge.

"I have lived and breathed football all these years and it's a passion -– I can't imagine doing anything else."

Wenger said his lack of a firm plan for the future also filled him with anticipation.&nbsp;

"That's why, in a way, this is an exciting moment for me, too," said Wenger.

"I have a new page, a blank page in front of me.

"As all good writers know, that can be a time of anguish but I hope I won't have too much of that. It's also a chance to write new chapters."

Wenger, who will also spend time in Russia travelling with close friend David Dein, the man who took the inspired decision to bring him from Japan to manage Arsenal in 1996, said he believed he had helped improve English people's perceptions of the French. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"When I arrived, you know, I was a complete unknown and I have always had the impression I am representing my country in a way," said Wenger.

"In a land where there has always been so much animosity between the English and the French I am proud to have achieved certain things and perhaps to have opened doors for other French coaches.

"Don’t forget, when I arrived in England a foreign manager was a very rare thing."

Arsene Wenger, still in 'shock', sets deadline for future plans

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could have played together at Arsenal had things worked out differently.

Arsene Wenger, who took charge of the final game of his 22-year reign on Sunday, revealed how he tried to sign both in 2003.&nbsp

Ronaldo went to Manchester United before joining Real Madrid and Wenger was unable to prise Messi from Barcelona.

“The obvious player [Arsenal missed out on] that comes to mind is Ronaldo. He was here with his mother and we were very close. Then Man United came in and they had Carlos Queiroz at the time, who was their coach. United played against Sporting Lisbon and Ronaldo was outstanding and they signed him. Wenger said.&nbsp

“There is always something you could have done differently but the problem of negotiations is to know when you give in and when you don’t give in. Once we were at £4.5m, we were still in negotiations. David [Dein] met with [the agent Jorge] Mendes in Paris and he was representing Sporting, so we were very close but Man United went to £12m, which we could not afford.

“I met Cesc [Fàbregas’s] parents and at the time we were interested in Messi and [Gerard] Piqué as well. We tried for the three but of course, it didn’t work out ... because of the agents. With Messi, Barcelona didn’t want to lose him of course and they made [the offer] that was needed to keep the player at the club.”

Europa League: Wenger denied final flourish as Atletico Madrid's Costa outlasts Arsenal

Outgoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he was left with a 'bitter taste' after his side failed to beat an Atletico Madrid side which played for ten men for almost 80 minutes in their Europa League semi-final leg on Thursday.

Arsenal were given a huge boost after 10 minutes when Atletico defender Sime Vrsaljko was sent off for stamping on Alexandre Lacazette's foot, and Atletico coach Diego Simeone was sent to the stands for his furious reaction to the decision.

The Premier League side dominated possession but missed a number of clear chances, with Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak making several fine saves before Lacazette broke the deadlock in the 61st minute.

The French forward headed Jack Wilshere's cross down into the corner of the net to give manager Arsene Wenger hope of winning a trophy in his last season at the club and taking his last chance to get the team back into the Champions League.

Atletico seized back the initiative in the 82nd minute, however, when Griezmann sped past Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, collected his rebounded shot off keeper David Ospina and calmly lifted the ball into the roof of the net.

"We come out tonight with a bitter taste," Wenger told reporters after the penultimate home game of his 22-year reign at Arsenal.

"You have to stay 1-0 up and after that everything is open," the Frenchman added. "We created the anticlimax by giving away the goal."

Wilshere also rued the missed chances for Arsenal, who are playing in their first European semi-final in nine years. Atletico have reached the Champions League final twice in the last four years and won the Europa League in 2010 and 2012.

The teams head to Madrid for the second leg next week when Atletico, second in Spain's La Liga, should be able to recall talismanic striker Diego Costa who scored three times against Arsenal in six games while he was at Chelsea.

Simeone praised the courage of his players.

"They are basically heroes," the Argentine said. "They stood firm for eighty-something minutes.

"The team responded to the red card with some fantastic defensive work and I think that will go down in the history of Atletico Madrid."

Arsene Wenger's 'bitter taste' after Atletico Madrid draw, Simeone praises his 'heroes'

Arsenal boss Arsene&nbspWenger&nbspsaid on Wednesday that the timing of his departure from the Premier League club after nearly 22 years in charge was not his decision.

The north London side announced last week that the 68-year-old would leave the Emirates at the end of the season, despite having one year remaining on his contract.

"The timing wasn't really my decision," the Frenchman told reporters ahead of Thursday's Europa League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid. "For the rest, I have spoken about it already."

Wenger&nbsphad come under sustained pressure from supporters to bow out after a string of disappointing results.

Arsenal, who are sixth in the domestic standings, can still qualify for next season's Champions League by beating Atletico and going on to win the Europa League.

"Is there a perfect goodbye? I don't know,"&nbspWenger&nbspadded. "I want to do as well as I can... This group of players deserve something special and I want to do it for them and achieve it with them."

Wenger&nbspsaid he would keep working in football beyond this season but did not specify whether he would take another managerial role.

"Honestly, I don't know what I will do," he said. "Will I take a little rest? I will continue to work, that is for sure. At the moment, I'm not ready to commit to anything else than to give my best for Arsenal football club."

Arsenal's Ukrainian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will miss Thursday's first leg at the Emirates, while Mohamed Elneny is out for the remainder of the season with an ankle ligament injury.

Leaving Arsenal was not my decision: Arsene Wenger

Arsene&nbspWenger&nbspjoked on Sunday that the broad coverage of his impending departure as Arsenal manager made him feel as if he had already been to his own funeral - but he also expressed dismay at a perceived lack of unity among the club's fans.

The Frenchman announced on Friday that he would be leaving Arsenal at the end of the season after nearly 22 years in the job.

"I am touched by all the praise I got from all English football, and I'm grateful for having had that experience in this country ... where football is special, where the passion is special,"&nbspWenger&nbsptold reporters after a 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham United.

"I know that I will not get that anymore in my life."

Wenger&nbspsuggested the coverage had felt something like an out-of-body experience.

"I had the feeling a little bit to assist live at my funeral because people speak about 'how you were' - so I don't need to die any more," he said, drawing a loud laugh at a packed news conference.

But after numerous poorly attended home games and a damaging run of losses away from the Emirates in 2018,&nbspWenger&nbspalso said he felt Arsenal's fans in England held the club in lower esteem than their supporters around the world.

"I personally believe this club is respected all over the world, much more than in England. Our fans did not give the image of unity I want at the club all over the world. That was hurtful," he said.

Wenger&nbspsaid he did not resent the fans but wanted them to focus their attention on the club and not on him - suggesting he may have been upset by the "Wenger&nbspout" signs that graced the stands with growing frequency in recent seasons.

"I do not want to make stupid headlines. I'm not resentful of our fans. I just feel if my personality is in the way of what I think our club is, for me that is more important than me," he said.

Fan Base

Wenger's relations with the club's fanbase have been increasingly rocky, particularly as Arsenal have failed to get beyond the Champions League last 16 since 2010 and failed to qualify for it all together this season.

Their only route back into that competition next season is by winning the Europa League, where they face Atletico Madrid on Thursday at the Emirates in the semi-final first leg.

The 68-year-old&nbspWenger&nbsprefused to say whether he would take any more managing roles.

"At the minute I speak to you, I am too attached to this club to say yes to another club,"&nbspWenger said.

"I cannot tell you much more because I don't want you to come back to me and say in six months 'You lied to us' - I know I did that a few times - but I don't want to be definite today."

He would not be drawn on who Arsenal might pick as their next manager.

"My job is to take care of the team, the results and the finances and transfers. My job is not to select the next manager," he said.

Fans did not give image of unity, that was hurtful: Arsene Wenger

Arsenal scored three goals in the final eight minutes as manager Arsene Wenger marked his penultimate home Premier League match in charge with a crushing 4-1 win over West Ham United in a London derby at the Emirates on Sunday.

Defender Nacho Monreal put Arsenal ahead six minutes into the second half when he fired low past Joe Hart at a corner to bring the match to life after a dull first half.

Marko Arnautovic equalised 13 minutes later when substitute midfielder Manuel Lanzini fed him on the left and the striker shot past the diving David Ospina into the bottom far corner.

Aaron Ramsey put Arsenal ahead again in the 82nd when a mistake in the Hammers defence allowed his effort from the left edge of the box to sail into the far side of Hart’s net and Alexandre Lacazette added the third and fourth goals.

"We took a bit of time to get going. I don't want to make excuses, we weren't quite at it," Ramsey told Sky Sports. "It was important we put it right in the second half.

"I'm delighted on a personal note to score -- and more importantly get the three points."

Hart had previously kept West Ham in the match with diving saves from Xhaka and Danny Welbeck but Arsenal climbed within six points of fifth-placed Chelsea on 57 while West Ham remain in relegation trouble six points above the drop zone on 35.

Asked about Wenger's departure, Ramsey said: "It's really tough to take by the group of lads. He's believed in us and given us all these opportunities over the years.

"We're not thinking about who's coming in next -- it's about doing it for him. Winning the Europa League would be a perfect send-off for him," he told Sky Sports.

That competition is effectively Arsenal's only route back into the Champions League next season but their way is blocked by formidable opponents in the form of Atletico Madrid in the semi-final. The first leg of that fixture is on Thursday at the Emirates.

Alexandre Lacazette shines in concluding minutes as Arsenal thrash West Ham

Arsene Wenger, one of the most successful managers in Premier League history, recently called it a day to his 22-year long trophy-laden managerial career at the English football club Arsenal.&nbsp;

On April 20, Wenger released a statement annoucing his departure from the club which he held dear for more than two decades.&nbsp; "After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season," the Frenchman said in the statement.

Wenger has been with the North London club since October 1996 and oversaw over 1228 games, an achievement unmatched in the Premier League history.

Under Wenger's guidance, Arsenal won three Premier League trophies and seven FA Cups. He was awarded Premier League Manager of the Year in 1998, 2002 and 2004.

In the 2015-16 season, Arsenal was in the Premier League title race but lost crucial matches and an embarrassing defeat to Premier League title winner Leicester City, which was promoted from Championship, resulted in trophy once again evading the North London club. The loss to the eventual title winner triggered a worldwide campaign, #WengerOut. The campaign unraveled like a viral fever and Arsene Wenger was at the receiving end as he could not repeat the successes he brought to the club in his glorious initial days.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While the fans expectations hit sky high the club's performance descended to such a disastrous low that the #WengerOut slogans got louder and louder. Besides a top-four finish, fans wanted a league title which was never in sight, resulting in frustration among the fans.&nbsp;

Wenger was expected to go or sacked at the end of 2017 season but instead the club, despite his run of poor performance, offered him two- year contract extension.&nbsp;

A legend like Arsene would never want to go through the phase of sacking and that may have pushed him to call it a day. He quit on his own or was asked to, is altogether a different case but Arsenal without Arsene seems an end of an era. Even there were media reports that few of the Arsenal players were supporting the #WengerOut campaign.

Was this campaign necessary at all?

Arsene Wenger took Arsenal into the Champions League for 20 years in a row. Arsenal won seven FA Cups under his guidance. Although the problem appeared as if Wenger's philosophy was not syncing with the Gunners, after Wenger's announcement of retirement, the #WengerOut campaign transformed to #MerciArsene. Good luck, miss you messages are surfacing on the social networking sites but it looks 'fake.'

Even Gary Neville, English football coach and also a pundit, who has slammed Wenger on various occasions, is now sending warms wishes.

Neville said, "The biggest compliment is that he played football that made us change the way we played against them.&nbsp; He now deserves the most incredible send-off from all in the coming weeks."

No farewell would ever compensate the damage that Wengerout campaign has done to value and ethics of Arsenal Football Club.

Wenger urged the fans to take care of the of core values of the club, he said, "To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club."

Opinion: Why Arsene Wenger deserves a farewell that matches his feat at Arsenal?

Former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to outgoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, describing the long-serving Frenchman as "one of the greatest Premier League managers".

Wenger announced on Friday that he would leave Arsenal at the end of the season, bringing an end to his near 22-year reign at the north London club.

Tributes to Wenger poured in from all quarters, but Ferguson's words are particularly poignant given the longstanding rivalry between the two men who often clashed before the Scot retired in 2013.

"I am really happy for Arsene Wenger. I have great respect for him and for the job he has done at Arsenal," Ferguson said in a statement on United's website.

"It is great testament to his talent, professionalism and determination that he has been able to dedicate 22 years of his life to a job that he loves.

"In an era where football managers sometimes only last one or two seasons, it shows what an achievement it is to serve that length of time at a club the size of Arsenal.

"He is, without doubt, one of the greatest Premier League managers and I am proud to have been a rival, a colleague and a friend to such a great man."

The 68-year-old Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including domestic doubles in 1998 and 2002, but bows out with Arsenal in sixth place in the Premier League ahead of Sunday's match against West Ham United.

Wenger's team face Spain's Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final next week.

Arsene Wenger to quit as Arsenal manager - who's saying what

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to stand down at the end of the season after a reign of almost 22 years that made him the most successful boss in the Premier League club's history.

The 68-year-old has been with the North Londoners since October 1996 and, with 1228 games in charge, is by far the longest-serving current manager in English soccer.

"After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season," the Frenchman said in a statement issued by the Gunners on Friday.

Wenger signed a two-year contract extension in 2017 and had said he planned to see it out.

He has faced mounting criticism, however, for the club's failure to sustain a serious title challenge in recent seasons, with some fans calling for him to be replaced.

The Gunners are a distant sixth in the league, 14 points adrift of fourth-placed North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur with five games remaining.

<img alt="Arsene Wenger.JPG" data-entity-type="" data-entity-uuid="" height="430" src="http://images.wionews.com/iniline-images/Arsene%20Wenger.JPG" width="770" />

They are also in the semi-finals of the Europa League, however, which represents their only realistic route to the lucrative Champions League next season.

"I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity," said Wenger, who urged the fans to stand behind the team and end the season on a high.

The club said a successor would be appointed as soon as possible with German Thomas Tuchel, out of work since leaving Borussia Dortmund almost a year ago, installed as the early bookmakers' favourite.

Difficult Day

Arsenal's majority owner Stan Kroenke said it was "one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport."

"One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsene has brought to the club on and off the pitch," he said.

"His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched."

Wenger won three Premier League titles, including in 2003-04 when 'The Invincibles' went unbeaten for an entire season, and seven FA Cups. He took Arsenal into the Champions League for 20 years in a row.

They won the league and FA cup double in 1998 and 2002.

"My personal situation is not so much my worry at the moment," he had told reporters on Thursday when asked about his future.

"My worry is to transform a season with many disappointments away from home into a success, and that’s what matters to me."

News of his decision drew a flood of tributes and reaction from throughout the game.

Arsene Wenger to step down as Arsenal manager

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said the Premier League`s decision to delay the implementation of the video assistant referee system (VAR) means the English top flight is being left behind.

The 20 top-flight teams voted against introducing the system for the league`s 2018-19 season after trial runs in the cup competitions received mixed reviews.

"The Premier League has been created with people who had a progressive mind... ," Wenger told reporters after Arsenal`s 2-1 league defeat by Newcastle United on Sunday. "Overall, I believe that with that decision we are behind the rest of the world.

"The young generation is used to (VAR) and worldwide they might move away from us because they see that in other countries they do it.

"Unfortunately the Premier League has again decided not to go for VAR and personally I believe that is a very, very bad decision," Wenger added.

"Every big game this season has been decided by mistakes that could have been avoided with VAR, especially in the Champions League with Manchester City and Liverpool."

Arsenal boss Wenger criticises Premier League's VAR delay

Alexis Sanchez says he expected a lot more from himself since moving to Manchester United from Premier League rivals Arsenal in January.

The Chile international, who has scored just once in 10 appearances for United, said he has high expectations for himself and that he has struggled to adapt after the &quot;abrupt&quot; January transfer window move.

&quot;Because I demand a lot from myself, I was hoping for something better,&quot; Sanchez told reporters while on national duty in Sweden. &quot;After my arrival at United, it was hard to change everything very quickly...

&quot;The change of club was something that was very abrupt -- it was the first time I&#39;ve changed clubs in January -- but many things have happened in my life that are difficult.&quot;

The 29-year-old says he considered withdrawing from the national team squad for upcoming friendlies to stay at United and work on his game but a conversation with Chile captain Claudio Bravo changed his mind.

&quot;I had asked permission to miss these games, but then I thought better and spoke with Claudio and told him that we should all be united,&quot; Sanchez added.

Chile, who failed to qualify for this year&#39;s World Cup finals in Russia, play friendlies against Sweden on Saturday and Denmark three days later.

"Because I demand a lot from myself, I was hoping for something better," Sanchez told reporters while on national duty in Sweden. "After my arrival at United, it was hard to change everything very quickly... "The change of club was something that was very abrupt -- it was the first time I've changed clubs in January -- but many things have happened in my life that are difficult." The 29-year-old says he considered withdrawing from the national team squad for upcoming friendlies to stay at United and work on his game but a conversation with Chile captain Claudio Bravo changed his mind. "I had asked permission to miss these games, but then I thought better and spoke with Claudio and told him that we should all be united," Sanchez added. Chile, who failed to qualify for this year's World Cup finals in Russia, play friendlies against Sweden on Saturday and Denmark three days later.
