On Sunday, a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal slowly intensified into a cyclonic storm named 'Michaung', which is expected to hit the south coast of Andhra Pradesh between Nellore and Machilipatnam in the forenoon on December 5 with an expected maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph, said the IMD, in its bulletin.

A cyclone alert was issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining coasts of North Tamil Nadu for the next 12 hours. In its press release, the IMD said that the deep depression will intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours over the southwest Bay of Bengal. 
 
"Yesterday's Deep Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 2330 hours of December 2, 2023, over the same region," stated the release. 
 
"It is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours and reach west-central Bay Of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by December 4 forenoon," it said.

India's President Droupadi Murmu also reacted to the incident and expressed anguish. "Anguished that the derailment of a passenger train in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh caused loss of lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," Murmu wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Andhra Pradesh train tragedy: Death toll climbs to 14, preliminary probe finds 'human error'

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) head N Chandrababu Naidu was sent to 14 days' judicial custody till September 23, on Sunday (September 10), for his alleged involvement in a Skill Development Corporation scam.

Vijayawada Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court Judge Himabindu read out the judgement on former CM Chandrababu's case.

The judge ordered the remand of Naidu for 14 days to judicial custody and suggested taking the former CM to Rajahmundry Central Jail. Earlier on Sunday morning, Naidu was produced before the (ACB) court in Vijayawada.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) also released a statement calling for a state-wide Bandh&nbsp;on Monday (September 11) and will stage demonstrations against the arrest of Naidu.

"CID has taken Chandrababu for a medical check-up after high blood pressure and diabetes were detected. We are approaching the High Court for bail," news agency ANI quoted Naidu's counsel as saying.

In a notice, the CID said that Naidu was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Stating that the offence was non-bailable, the CID said that Naidu could be released on bail, and he might have to seek bail through a court.&nbsp;

The officials have claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss in excess of Rs 300 crore&nbsp;to the state government.

On Wednesday, Naidu had claimed that he could be attacked or arrested soon. "Today or tomorrow they could arrest me. They may even attack me. Not one, they will do many atrocities," Naidu said during a public event in &nbsp;Anantapur district.&nbsp;

On Saturday (September 9), Naidu was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Nandyala. Stating that the offence was non-bailable, the CID said that Naidu could be released on bail, and he might have to seek bail through a court. The officials have claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss in excess of Rs 300 crore to the state government. On Wednesday, Naidu had claimed that he could be attacked or arrested soon. "Today or tomorrow they could arrest me. They may even attack me. Not one, they will do many atrocities," Naidu said during a public event in Anantapur district. Locals thronged to Meghavaram beach to catch a glimpse of the carcass of the whale. It has been reported that the whale weighed about five tonnes and was more than 25 feet long. According to the forest officials who interacted with the local media, the mammal is suspected to be a baby whale owing to its smaller size when compared to average adult blue whales. A fully grown blue whale can weigh as much as 200 tonnes. This is equivalent to the weight of 33 elephants.

“The cause of death is unknown. A veterinary doctor will perform a postmortem and it will be disposed of,” a forest department official said as quoted by The News Minute.

Last year in the month of May, locals in Santhabommali mandal were amused as a gold-painted chariot washed ashore at Sunnapalli coast. It was concluded by the officials that the chariot apparently washed up from Myanmar or Thailand owing to high tidal waves formed by Cyclone Asani.

The blue whale has now been discovered amid heavy rainfall in the southern state. India Meteorological Department (IMD) data has said that eight places in Andhra Pradesh, including Srikakulam, received 7 cm of rain in just 24 hours. The weather departmen has said that the low pressure area over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal has persisted. It has been forecast that the low pressure area will turn into a depression.

Such a weather system is likely to cause moderate rain in several places in coastal Andhra and Rayalseema.

Government authorities have advised fishermen not to venture in the sea as the adverse weather means there would be winds reaching speed of 45-55 km per hour. The wind speed may also increase to 65 kmph.

Potti Venkata Rajesh Kumar, 44, passed away around 04:30 AM IST on Sunday, July 2. Rajesh was visiting Jacksonville Beach in Florida with his wife and two children before the US Independence Day on July 4.

Rajesh saw his son and daughter had gone far into the sea. However, he rushed in to help his son as he noticed them struggling with the rip currents, reported Times of India. The bystanders also rushed in to help them as both father and son got caught in the rip currents.&nbsp;

Brendon Townsend, another visitor at the beach, was among the first people to jump in and rescue Rajesh and his son. He also performed CPR on Rajesh's 12-year-old boy. However, his son later responded to the shock treatment in the ICU. Rajesh's brother said he is now stable, aware and talking.&nbsp;

Rajesh Kumar, a native of Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, moved to the United States in January 2022. His wife and children joined him in May 2023. He worked at a startup in the United States.&nbsp;

Indian man dies at Florida beach while trying to save son

An Indian man pursuing higher education in the United States has died of gunshot wounds while working at a fuel station. The 24-year-old, as per a PTI report, was pursuing a Master's Degree in the US. He has been identified as Saiesh Veera, a native of the South-Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Veera was fatally shot in the Columbus division of Ohio State on Thursday.

The police in a statement identified the victim. They said: "On April 20, 2023, at 12:50 am, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Broad St. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located an adult male victim, identified as SAIESH VEERA, M/O/24, suffering from a gunshot wound."

Rohit Yalamanchili, who is overseeing the online fundraiser, said that the deceased youth's graduation from his master's course was just 10 days away. Veera was reportedly the first in his family to have travelled to the US for studies.&nbsp;His father had passed away two years prior.

Under directions from&nbsp;Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the initiative aiming to "protect and propagate the Hindu faith"&nbsp;has been rolled out in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Kottu Satyanarayana said.

"To protect and propagate the Hindu faith on a massive scale, construction of Hindu temples in the localities of weaker sections has been initiated," Satyanarayana, who is also the Endowments Minister, said in an official statement on Tuesday.

Indian state to build 3,000 temples to ‘protect and propagate Hindu faith’

A massive fire broke out at Foxlink’s manufacturing unit in India’s southern Andhra Pradesh state. No casualties were reported.

The Taiwanese-based manufacturer, part of Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co Ltd, has halted production of cables for iPhone chargers. The factory opened in 2020.

The blaze was reported on Monday afternoon and damaged nearly 50 per cent of the machinery at the factory, said J Ramanaiah, who leads the Fire Services Department for Tirupati district in the state, reports Reuters news agency.

Around 750 people working at the unit in Jinkalamitta village, Tirupati district, were able to escape uninjured, police said.

There are 12 Apple suppliers in India who have set up manufacturing facilities across the country. Of those, five are in southern Tamil Nadu state, two in Karnataka state, and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

&nbsp;According to Apple, these companies are part of a longer list that represents 98 per cent of its direct spend for materials, manufacturing, and assembly of products worldwide for the fiscal year 2021.

Visakhapatnam will be the capital of southern Andhra Pradesh state, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced on Tuesday, even as a Supreme Court ruling is pending on whether the state government can develop three capitals.&nbsp;

The chief minister made the announcement&nbsp;at the International Diplomatic Alliance Meet and Curtain Raiser for Andhra Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023 organised in New Delhi.&nbsp;

The announcement of a new capital comes nine years after Telangana&nbsp;state was carved out of Andhra and Hyderabad city was assigned as its capital.&nbsp;

"Here I am to invite you to Visakhapatnam which is going to be our capital in the days to come. I myself would also be shifting over to Visakhapatnam in the months to come as well," he told the investors at the meeting.&nbsp;

Amaravati as a state capital had been in contention for a long ever since the formation of Telangana. In 2015, the then CM N Chandrababu Naidu-led government acquired over 33,000 acres of land from farmers to develop Amaravati as the capital of the state.&nbsp;

But after Jagan Mohan Reddy got elected in 2019, he decided to develop three state capitals—Visakhapatnam as the executive capital, Amaravati as the legislative capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital, following which he passed appropriate legislation.&nbsp;

Last year in November, the state government passed a bill in the assembly in November, repealing the controversial AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020, which was intended to establish three capitals for the state.&nbsp;

Without putting any timeframe, Jagan, speaking on the floor of the assembly said the government would come out with a "comprehensive, complete and better" bill after plugging loopholes in the previous version.&nbsp;

In March last year, the Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled against the three capitals and directed the government to develop Amaravati as the state capital as envisaged.&nbsp;

The court on March 3, 2022, said the state legislature lacked the competence to make any legislation for shifting, bifurcating or trifurcating the capital.&nbsp;

The state government then filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court Order.&nbsp;

A stampede broke out at another event of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday, killing three women and injuring some other people. The event was being organised by the TDP in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur for the distribution of Sankranti gifts among the poor, according to a report by news agency PTI.&nbsp;

The incident occurred when the TDP was distributing gifts among the poor in association with a voluntary organisation. A large number of women queued up to get the gifts, with some of them breaking the line and trying to move forward thereby resulting in the stampede.&nbsp;

One woman died on the spot while the other two succumbed at a government hospital. The stampede occurred after Chandrababu Naidu left the venue after launching the programme.&nbsp;

Gujarat's&nbsp;Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had expressed condolences to the families and announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakhs ($4900) for the families of the deceased and Rs 49,000 ($600) for the injured.

Following the clashes, Y S Sharmila was arrested in Telangana’s Warangal district on Monday. The police took her into custody and shifted her to Hyderabad.&nbsp;

Her party members obstructed traffic and organised a protest, which required the police to use force to scatter them. To raise awareness of the hardship of people in Telangana, Sharmila said that she has been on a padayatra for the last 223 days in a nonviolent and peaceful manner.

Sharmila had alleged that Reddy had been extorting money from people and indulging in land grabbing and threatening contractors. She said even Telangana CM KCR's wife has been acting like a de facto MLA and has resorted to land grabbing. "They are not leaving even an inch of land in the constituency. Why should the people vote for such people?” she questioned KCR, as reported by Hindustan Times.&nbsp;

Three Indian students&nbsp;died in a car crash in western Massachusetts when the automobile they were riding in collided with another vehicle.

Prem Kumar Reddy Goda, 27, Sai Narasimha Patamsetti, 22, and Pavani Gullapally, 22, died at the site of the collision, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

The accident is being looked into by local and state authorities in Massachusetts.

The victims were initially taken to the medical centre inside the zone and then, they were transferred to the Anakapalli government hospital for further care. However, both institutions were unable to point out the actual cause behind the incident at the manufacturing unit.

Earlier, a similar incident took place in June when around 500 women workers complained of discomfort. They fell unconscious and a number of them showed signs of nausea and vomiting.

At that point of time, the authorities said that it was a possible ammonia leak from a nearby Porus Laboratories unit and it resulted in the unit’s closure for a number of days. However, a repeat of the incident has resulted in concern among the workers as well as the owners of the plant.

At least 150 workers hospitalised after suspected gas leak in Andhra Pradesh

The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that severe cyclonic storm Asani is expected to travel northwestwards until the night of May 10 and approach the west central Bay of Bengal off the coast of North Andhra Pradesh.

Cyclone Asani is expected to recurve north-northeastwards and move into the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the shores of North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, according to the weather service. During the next 24 hours, it is expected to progressively weaken into a cyclonic storm.

In Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, and West Godavari districts, squally winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are expected to continue until 8.30 a.m. on May 11th, according to the IMD.

The weather department in Bhubneswar also informed us that the severe cyclonic storm Asani will weaken into a cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours.&nbsp;

"Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for next 24 hrs for Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri dists. Fishermen advised not to venture into the sea along &amp; off Odisha coast till 13 May", IMD Bhubaneswar.
