In a surprise move, YSRCP Rajya Sabha member and party general secretary V Vijayasai Reddy on Friday (Jan 24) announced his decision to quit politics, saying that he will be resigning from his parliament membership on January 25. Further, he said agriculture will be his future.
Reddy, who is also the party's floor leader in the Upper House, said he is not joining any other political party.
Reddy, 67, is currently serving his second term as a Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh. He still has more than three years left in his term.
He is the fourth YSRCP Rajya Sabha member to resign from the party after its rout in the 2024 Assembly elections.
"I am quitting politics. I am resigning from the Rajya Sabha membership tomorrow, (January) 25th. I will not join any political party. I am not resigning hoping for any position, benefits, or money. This decision is completely my personal one. There was no pressure. No one influenced me," he said in a post on 'X'.
Reddy, who was one of the key figures in former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP in the state, said he was indebted to the YS Rajasekhar Reddy family, which has supported him for four decades and three generations.
The announcement by Reddy came at the time when Jagan is in London on a personal trip.
He also thanked YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for giving Rajya Sabha the opportunity twice and also the latter's wife YS Bharati for elevating him to a higher pedestal.
"I worked with honesty as parliamentary party leader, Rajya Sabha floor leader and party (YSRCP) national general secretary for the benefit of the party and the state. I worked as a bridge between the Centre and the state," he said.
Delving on ruling TDP, Vijayasai Reddy noted that he only differed with it politically and did not have any personal differences with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's family.
Moreover, he highlighted that he always had a friendship with Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
Additionally, the veteran YSRCP leader thanked the people of the state, friends, colleagues and party cadres for honouring him in his long political journey.
"Special thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for encouraging me for almost nine years, giving me immense strength and courage, and giving me recognition in the Telugu states," the 67-year-old Reddy said.
Recently, the Enforcement Directorate grilled Vijayasai Reddy in Hyderabad on the acquisition of Kakinada Deep Water Port by Aurobindo Realty &amp; Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, which allegedly is connected to his relative.
With the exit of Vijayasai Reddy, YSRCP will lose another MP and will be left with only seven MPs in the upper house.
YSRCP Rajya Sabha members M Venkata Ramana, B Mastan Rao Yadav and BC leader R Krishnaiah resigned in the recent past.
Krishnaiah and Yadav subsequently joined the BJP and TDP, respectively, and retained their seats in the Rajya Sabha by-elections.
After Reddy's exit, the seat is expected to go to the ruling NDA in AP in the imminent by-election, owing to its overwhelming majority.
The TDP-led NDA has a strength of 164 legislators in the 175-member Assembly, while the opposition YSRCP holds 11 seats.
Currently, the NDA constituent Janasena has no representation in the Upper House.
One of Vijayasai Reddy's last acts as a parliamentarian was to submit his dissent against various provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill at the meeting of the parliamentary committee scrutinising the proposed law.

To her shock, upon opening the parcel, she discovered the decaying body of an unidentified man along with a letter threatening severe consequences if ₹1.3 crore (USD 0.15 million) was not paid. It remains unclear whether the letter was directed at Tulsi or someone in her family.

As per the forecast, this Cyclonic storm is expected to cross the coast between North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions, specifically between Karaikal and Mamallapuram, during the afternoon hours on Saturday, 30th November. At the time of the system's crossing, wind speeds are expected to range between 70-90kmph. Owing to this system and its possible impact, for Friday and Saturday, heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for more than 20 districts across the Tamil Nadu Coast. This includes a Red alert for Chennai and adjoining districts on Saturday. In a few districts of the state, the spillover effects of this cyclonic storm could continue to bring rainfall even on Sunday and Monday. According to the police, the accident happened when a man carrying "onion bombs" (a special Diwali firecracker) in a bag on his vehicle hit a pothole near Ganganamma temple, causing the bag with "onion bombs" to fall.&nbsp;

The firecrackers exploded on the spot, killing the rider. The rider has been identified as Sudhakar.&nbsp;

Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal said, "Even the Supreme Court and High Court say that in view of the pollution, we should not burst crackers; we should light diyas. This is the festival of lights and not fireworks. It is not as if we are doing a favour to anybody. Whatever pollution will happen, our children will suffer from it, so there is no Hindu-Muslim in this. Everyone's life is important."

This comes as the national capital has been witnessing a rise in air pollution. &nbsp;Delhi's air quality has deteriorated over the last several days, prompting the Delhi government to take measures to control air pollution.

“We are already in deficit. Having fewer than two children leads to the rapid decline of the young population. Having more than two kids will ensure a stable population,” Naidu said.

Tollywood star and Andhra Pradesh&nbsp;Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan Kalyan will undergo 11-day ritualistic penance after reports emerged that the 'prasdam' (offering) at Sri Venkateswara Temple was adulterated with 'animal fats'.&nbsp;

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kalyan called the incident a "stain on the Hindu race", adding that those practising the faith needed to atone for the injustice done to Lord Balaji.&nbsp;

"Tirumala Laddu Prasadam, which is considered to be sacred,&nbsp;has become impure as a result of the depraved tendencies of the past rulers. Contaminated with animal remains. Only open minds can succumb to such sin. Not being able to detect this sin in the beginning is a stain on the Hindu race," said Kalyan.&nbsp;

"Everyone who believes in Sanatana Dharma should atone for this terrible injustice done to Balaji, the god of Kaliyuga," he added.

The atonement period will start&nbsp;on Sunday (Sep 22),&nbsp;with Kalyan visiting&nbsp;Sri Dashavatara Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Nambur. After the 11-day period, Kalyan&nbsp;will visit Tirupati and beg the god to 'wash away' his sins.&nbsp;

"The moment I came to know that the laddu prasadam contained animal remains, my mind was broken. Feeling guilty. As I am fighting for the welfare of the people, it hurts me that such trouble did not come to my attention in the beginning," said Kalyan.&nbsp;

The Janasena Party chief said he was pained that even the board members at Tirupati were unable to report about the adulterations being done to the 'laddoos', offered to millions of devotees who throng to the temple.&nbsp;

"Only those who have no faith in God and no fear of sin indulge in such crimes. My pain is that even the board members and employees who are a part of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam system are not able to find out the mistakes there, even if they find out, they don't talk about it."

In a shocking revelation, the latest test reports have confirmed that beef tallow, fish oil, and palm oil were used to make laddoos, distributed as religious food offerings (prasad) at the popular Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, a sacred Hindu pilgrimage.&nbsp;

The report by NDDB CALF, a private laboratory focused on testing animal feed and milk and milk products, has revealed that the samples of the ghee used in making Tirupati laddoos contained foreign fat, including palm oil, fish oil, beef tallow, and lard (obtained by rendering the fatty tissue of a pig), said an India Today report.

Photographs of the test lab report were being shared on social media, but WION could not verify them.

“We expect extremely heavy rainfall in some areas of Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts, which is why we have issued an orange alert. Other areas will see heavy to moderate rains over the next five days," IMD officials told TNIE.

"Northern Telangana is likely to experience heavier rains compared to the rest of the state. The intensity is due to the combined effect of the monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation. However, the rainfall will be less intense than what we saw in the past week. Further intensity will depend on how the trough progresses.”

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rain in the city for the next 48 hours with winds up to 30-40 kmph. The minimum temperature is likely to settle around 23 degrees Celsius and maximum around 28 degrees Celsius.
