The demand for sex education in India is not new. Many people have voiced their concerns regarding the need for sex education in the school curriculum but due to staunch opposition from the orthodox people and political unwillingness, the proposal remains rejected.

But then why the topic of sex education is debated? It is a matter of fact that the developing economies have tried to level up with developed economies. It can be in terms of their infrastructure, technology and education among others. Then why sex education is restricted?

According to the state of world population report&nbsp;2021, titled My body is my own, highlights, 56% of countries have formulated laws and policies which support comprehensive sexuality education.&nbsp; 
&nbsp; 
India, being a diverse country opted for Indianness in every western innovation then why not this?

There is a breathing myth about this idea. Some opposition put forth by the people suggests - hurting of sentiments, loss of family essence, breaking shackles of culture and acceptance of dominated forces of westernization. Due to these reasons, life-saving lessons are put at stake like&nbsp;consent, STI, contraception, sexual health and hygiene. 
&nbsp; 
Sex education is an important part of education which helps young people to understand their body, sexual emotions, and sexuality, and helps them to make informed decisions about their bodily needs.&nbsp;

At young stages attracting toward myths and risky behaviour is a common occurrence. To provide precaution to them, sex education is necessary.

The topic of sex education is barred from school. States like Maharashtra Gujarat,&nbsp;Rajasthan,&nbsp;Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have banned imparting sex education in schools. They opine that this can corrupt practices and increase risky behaviour.

Globally, the leading cause of death for 15-year to 19-year-old girls is complications arising from pregnancy. Young people can take such decisions wisely after sex education.

Topics like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and reproductive tract infections (RTIs) and their adverse outcomes (such as cancer and infertility); unintended pregnancy and abortion; sexual dysfunction; sexual violence; and harmful practices (such as female genital mutilation, FGM) can be included.

The importance of consent for both males and females is losing out somewhere in this battle. India’s National Population Policy also reiterates the need for educating adolescents about the risks of unprotected sex.&nbsp;&nbsp;In fact, in 2005, adolescent reproductive and sexual health education was initiated which covered sexually transmitted diseases,&nbsp;consent, attraction, gender and sexuality among others. Later on, it was banned and 12 Indian states declared it "inappropriate" and said that it can "increase risky behaviour" among adolescents.&nbsp;

Getting much-needed awareness might help India to complete SDG goal 3 as well as target 5.6 SDG which ensures universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.&nbsp;

In 2007 a scheme was introduced by the National AIDS Control Organisation and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The aim was to spread awareness among adolescents about healthy sexual practices. It was later taken down as opponents thought it will corrupt Indian values. They contended that this will lead to experimentation and irresponsible sexual behaviour and furthermore that India has rich culture and values and sex education is good in western countries rather than in India. At the same time, the proponent of the scheme said India is modernising at a fast speed and these conservative thoughts are not required.&nbsp;

Certain sections of society consider that sex education can&nbsp;decrease the cases of rape. Many a time the rapist has an illicit notion of sex, lack morals and are misguided which allows them to take the wrong path to satisfy the need of the body and mind.&nbsp;

Good quality sexuality education is grounded in internationally accepted human rights, in particular the right to access appropriate health-related information. This right has been confirmed by the United Nations committee on the rights of the child, the committee on the elimination of discrimination&nbsp;against women,&nbsp;&nbsp;the committee on economic, social and cultural rights and many other organisations in the world.

It's high time the government should eye towards it!&nbsp;

A BJP youth functionary member was hacked by unidentified motorcycle-borne attackers on Wednesday (July 27), as per police, as unrest erupted in the town with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) calling for a bandh in several of the taluks to condemn the killing. Praveen Nettaru, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district executive committee, was killed and the police are looking into several explanations including the involvement of attackers from the nearby state of Kerala. As per police, after shutting his store, late on Tuesday (July 26), the victim,32, was on his way home when he was fatally attacked, PTI reported.<o:p></o:p>

As soon as the victim was attacked, he tried to escape and run but after taking a hit to the head, he collapsed, officials said. Locals called the police right away who reached the spot immediately and took the victim to the hospital, where the staff pronounced him dead. Following this instance, a demonstration organised by BJP and several other Hindu organisations, against the killing was held in front of the hospital.

As per Home Minister Agra Jnanendra, the area where the instance happened is near the Kerala border, and police are currently making particular efforts to apprehend the preparators by getting in touch with top Kerala police officials.

BJP youth member hacked to death in Karnataka, chief minister promises to punish the culprits

Anti-UN intense protests in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo claimed the lives of three UN peacekeepers amongst which two were Indian Border Security Force (BSF) employees and at least 12 civilians, as a BSF&nbsp;and UN spokesperson said.&nbsp;The UN mission, MONUSCO, is accused of failing to shield civilian militia violence that has raged for years, which sparked the protests. At least five people were murdered and about 50 others were injured on the second day of the protests in Goma, the Associated Press reported. As per a senior officer, the two deceased BSP members were head constables and both belonged to Rajasthan.<o:p></o:p>

The two BSF members, Head Constable (GD) Sanwala Ram&nbsp;Vishnoi&nbsp;and&nbsp;Head Constable (GD) Shishupal&nbsp;Singh, of the UN Peacekeeping Contingent (MONUSCO) were stationed in Butembo, died on July 26 as a result of several injuries sustained during the tumultuous armed demonstrations, a BSF spokesperson said. As per officials, two platoons or approximately 70-74 BSF soldiers were stationed in the region and were inducted in May this year, PTI reported.

Two Indian peacekeepers killed during anti-UN protest in Congo

A training delegation from the Bangladesh Navy is on a visit to India's Southern Naval Command, which is the training command of the Indian Navy. The delegation of five officers from the Bangladesh Navy is headed by Commodore Abu Mohammad Sazzad Hossain.

It is notable that India's Armed Forces train cadets and serving officers from friendly-foreign countries, as a part of military diplomacy and cooperation.

As part of India's Space sector reforms, the Government of India has transferred 10 operational communication satellites to NewSpace India Limited(NSIL), a Government-run company.

As part of India's Space sector reforms, the Government of India has transferred 10 operational communication satellites to NewSpace India Limited(NSIL), a Government-run company. This move of transferring ownership of ten satellites of the GSAT series to NSIL, would help the company rent them out(transponder capacity, services etc.) and generate revenue out of the same. "10 (Ten) in-orbit operational communication satellites viz. GSAT8, GSAT-10, GSAT-12R (CMS-01), GSAT-14, GSAT-15, GSAT-16, GSAT-17, GSAT-18, GSAT-30 and GSAT-31 have been transferred from Government of India to M/s. New Space India Ltd (NSIL), a CPSE under the Department of Space, at a written down value of Rs.4697.60 crores(Rs.46.97billion) against the issue of equity to the Government of India, with 01.04.2021 as the effective date of transfer" the Minister-in-Charge, Dr Jitendra Singh, shared in Parliament. Simply put, it can be compared to how an Internet service provider sells connections to homes based on the speed limit, data limit etc, likewise the capacity of the satellite is allocated to niche customers such as telecommunications companies, broadcasters etc. In this case, the Board of NSIL is authorized to price the transponder capacity as per the global trends. NSIL shall carry out the activities related to offering and allocation of capacity, as per the guidelines to be adopted by its Board. Notably, India's share is estimated to be less than 2% of the above. India's Space sector reforms that are being rolled out since 2020 are also meant to enhance the same. As part of this, the Department of Space, Government of India established the Indian National Space Promotion & Authorization Centre (INSPACe) to be a single window agency to promote, handhold and authorize the activities of private entities in the sector, thus providing them with a level playing field. Until 2020, India's private space industries were only supplying components and providing services to the state-run Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO). However, the reforms are aimed at enabling private companies to build and launch their own rockets and satellites from Indian soil and provide allied services. Earlier, when queried about the much-awaited Space Policy, Dr S.Somanath, Chairman, ISRO and Secretary, Dept of Space, replied that the internal review was complete and that the cabinet approval was pending and the final approval could be expected very soon. He added that the Space Policy was meant to create clarity on the private sector's ability to build its own rockets and satellites. "The bill is targeted to give teeth to Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe)" he said. India commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas to recognise the sacrifices made by Indian Army personnel during the Kargil War in 1999, the conflict that ended 23 years ago. The war, ‘Operation Vijay’ was fought between India and Pakistan in the Kargil region of the northern state, Jammu and Kashmir, known as Ladakh today. After nearly three months of armed conflict on the frigid heights of Kargil, the Indian troops declared their victory, raising the tricolor flag, a win for India. The Prime Minister of India, every year pays tribute to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate on this day.&nbsp;

But why did the war happen? Let’s check the background here:

It all started with Kargil being a tehsil of Ladakh but after the India-Pakistan 1947-1948 war, the Line of Control split the Ladakh district in half with Skardu Tehsil joining Pakistan. The two countries who later got engaged in a war again in 1971, signed Simla Agreement promising to not engage in ant-armed combat regarding the boundaries. However, both the countries were still trying to maintain their control over the Siachen Glaciers. However, during the 1990s, tensions between the countries escalated due to separatist actions in Kashmir, apparently funded by Pakistan. Later, the countries signed the Lahore Declaration in February 1999.&nbsp;

However, the Pakistani Army was carrying out a covert operation to cross LOC into Indian territory with the intention of cutting off the connection between Kashmir and Ladakh. Their objective was to compel the Indian army to leave the Siachen Glacier. But soon after knowing this, the Indian govt swiftly reached and wasted no time in mobilising nearly 200,000 Indian troops in the area. ‘Operation Vijay’ was the code for this mission.&nbsp;

Due to their high positioning, the Pakistani army had an upper hand over the Indian army in terms of shooting. Two Indian fighter jets were brought down by them and one crashed.&nbsp;

During the war, US President Bill Clinton ordered Pakistan to withdraw its troops from LOC, the country sought US action. The Indian army attacked then seeing the opportunity attacked the remaining Pakistani troops and captured the peaks while Pakistan was busy with its withdrawal.&nbsp;

The Indian Army successfully finished its operation on July 26, 2000.&nbsp;

700 deaths were reported in Pakistan, compared to 527 deaths overall among the Indian armed soldiers.&nbsp;

After winning the war, Pakistan denied being involved in the war. They ascribed the responsibility to the Kashmiri separatists. Although they were spotted awarding medals to the soldiers.&nbsp;

India on Monday was joined by more than 20 countries in deliberating on the overall situation in Afghanistan on the opening day of a two-day conference hosted by Uzbekistan at its capital city Tashkent. WION's principal correspondent Siddhant Sibbal gets you more on this.

International travellers having symptoms of monkeypox will be directly sent from Delhi airport to LNJP (Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan) Hospital, as per Indian authorities. The symptoms include high fever and backache. The decision was made on Monday (July 25) during a review meeting presided over by Delhi Governor V K Saxena. The Delhi government requested the district and other concerned officials to follow the Centre’s guidelines on the management of the infection. These guidelines also state that required arrangements from the airport to the hospitals need to be established or reinforced.

As per the sources, the isolation unit at LNJP Hospital, which has a dedicated 20-member staff to care for such patients, will be deployed to travellers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, exhibiting signs including all the symptoms of monkeypox. They further said that the district administration would confine the family members and do contact tracing while sending the samples of the suspected patients to the National Institute of Virology, Pune.&nbsp;

The Delhi Governor, V K Saxena on Twitter said that he along with CS, Secy Health, DGHS and other relevant parties are reviewing the situation for monkeypox in the national capital. The governor urged everyone to remain calm and follow the prevention and protocols issued.&nbsp;
