The Secton 6B of the bill stipulates that every legislator that has served for any period up to five years, is entitled to a pension of Rs 36,000 per month ($428). So, please stay away from these," Sarma said.

"This is the only job left that I could apply for with any hope of a positive response. My family has refused to fund further studies or coaching, so employment is my lone option now," Sumitra said.

As per the data pertaining to the applicants for the jobs of sweepers, more than 39,990 graduates and over 6,112 postgraduates have applied for these unskilled menial jobs. The data (updated till September 2) shows that about 1,17,144 individuals having studied till Class 12 have also applied for the sweeper’s job. A total of 3.95 lakh individuals have applied for the job.

It is believed that soil from a sex worker's doorstep is virtuous, as it may have absorbed the purity and virtue of those who visit the sex workers.&nbsp;However, as it turns out, the tradition of sending the soil has been on halt for nearly five years, and not only due to the recent case.&nbsp;

For years, the sex workers at Sonagachi have raised their voices against the&nbsp;injustice and violence they have faced while practising their profession.&nbsp;

"This is not a recent issue. For many years, the soil has not been provided. We still do not have acceptance of sex work as a profession in society. We have long been seeking recognition for sex work," one of the sex workers was quoted as saying by Zee News.&nbsp;

The sex workers said some people were selling the soil to idol makers, but the tradition states that it should be begged for and received as a blessing from them.&nbsp;

The sex workers said despite their many contributions to the festival, they were not acknowledged and did not get the "respect" they deserved from civil society.&nbsp;

Despite their situation, a significant number of Sonagachi workers took part in protests recently to demand justice for the doctor raped and murdered.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

He accused Buch of not extending the repayment period and imposing penalties on those who agreed to defer repayments. Chandra alleged that a bribe was demanded by one Manjit Singh — recommended to him by a bank’s chairperson, to settle the case. Singh, who was acting as a middleman, said he could resolve the matter with Buch and her husband for a "price". Buch transferred her investments to her husband so as to avoid regulatory hassles. “I am convinced that the SEBI chairperson is corrupt since she and her husband, whose combined income was around Rs 1 crore per annum before she assumed the position at Sebi, has now gone up to Rs 40-50 crore per annum," said Chandra. "This needs to be investigated by the media and investigating agencies, including an analysis of the settled and compounded cases and the consultation fees paid by such corporates and received by the Sebi chairperson and her connected persons. The FRCV will be a futuristic Main Battle Tank with superior mobility, all-terrain ability, multilayered protections, precision and lethal fires over and real-time situational awareness, the release stated.

Congress intensifies attack on SEBI chief for receiving more retiral benefit than salary from ICICI Bank

Nine Maoists were killed in an armed encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bastar on Tuesday (Sept 3), about 280 km south of the state capital Raipur in central India. &nbsp;

The gunfight broke out around 10.30 am (Indian Standard Time) in the forest along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. This is when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Maoist operation, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range Sundarraj P told news agency Press Trust of India.&nbsp;

Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were part of the operation. The operation was launched after inputs were received about the presence of Maoists belonging to its west Bastar division unit.&nbsp;

Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were part of the operation. The operation was launched after inputs were received about the presence of Maoists belonging to its west Bastar division unit. In a rare instance, surgeons in Puducherry, southern India, have removed a ball of human hair from a teenage girl's stomach. The surgically removed ball of hair was 35 cm&nbsp;in length and 1.5 kg in weight.&nbsp;

The 17-year-old girl was suffering from 'Trichotillomania', a&nbsp;mental health condition where an individual compulsively pulls out their hair. In this particular case, the 12th-grade student had also been ingesting the hair, which is an extreme condition known as 'Trichophagia'. When a patient suffers from both these conditions, it often has severe negative effects on mental health and well-being.

The patient is recovering and healthy, after undergoing surgery.&nbsp;

In recent weeks, the high school student had been experiencing severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, which led the family to seek medical help.

The initial diagnosis revealed a large mass within the stomach. Later, it was identified to be an extensive hairball or trichobezoar, which is a serious gastrointestinal obstruction caused by the ingestion of hair.&nbsp;

According to the lead surgeon Dr&nbsp;K Sasikumar, a Surgical Gastroenterologist at GEM Hospital, the teenage girl had been ingesting her hair for more than a year, without her own knowledge.

"In such cases, they pluck and ingest hair, as a means of reducing their stress or alleviating some mental pressure. The ingested hair had occupied 90 per cent of the stomach's volume and started to cause immense pain and discomfort, which is what led to the identification of the condition. If small quantities of hair are ingested, it might not be so easy to know," he told WION.

The 90-minute-long surgical procedure involved removing the ball of hair from the stomach while ensuring that the surrounding tissues don't get affected.&nbsp;

Long hair has a smooth surface that’s often hard for the stomach to break down and digest. Hair also doesn’t move well through the human digestive tract as it contracts and relaxes, a process to move foods and liquids through the digestive tract. As the hairball starts to grow in weight and size, it may start to jut out through the stomach opening and grow into the small intestine, leading to further complications.&nbsp;

Dr&nbsp;Sasikumar cautioned that this condition is seen more often among women below the age of 30, especially adolescents. He said that parents can identify and prevent such conditions from deteriorating, if they seek medical help on spotting unusual bald spots or hair loss among teens, or observe teens having hair of differing length.

Following proper medical intervention, this condition can be treated through counselling sessions and behavioural therapy.

Salary packages as low as Rs 4 lakh ($4,764) have been offered to students during the recent placement season at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. The lowest package offered last year was around Rs 6 lakh ($7,146).&nbsp;

As many as 10 students are believed to have accepted job offers in the range of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh per annum, according to a report in Economic Times.&nbsp;

The premier educational institute of the country saw 543 companies registering for placements, out of which 388 came to the campus while 364 made offers.

While the lowest salary package decreased, the average annual package experienced a slight increase of 7.7 per cent - rising from Rs 21.8 lakh ($25,965) in 2023 to Rs 23.5 lakh ($27,990) in 2024.

At the same time, the placement percentage hovered around the 75 mark, which was a seven per cent decrease from last year's placement rate.&nbsp;

"Most of the remaining unplaced students have identified avenues to be gainfully employed," a report by IIT-Bombay stated.&nbsp;

The finance sector companies secured the services of 113 IIT-B graduates, while at least 17 design companies offered 33 jobs, which was lower than last year's numbers.&nbsp;

In the research and development segment, where companies are involved in&nbsp;chemical and mechanical research, energy efficiency solutions, semiconductors&nbsp;and research laboratories - a total of 36 organisations turned up and offered 97 positions.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Minimum salary package at IIT Bombay drops to $4,800 during placement season

The state assembly in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal on Tuesday (Sep 3) passed the anti-rape bill unanimously with full support from opposition. However, the amendments proposed by the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, were not incorporated.

The bill comes amidst uproar over the rape and murder of a trainee&nbsp;doctor in the premises of the RG Kar Medical College in the state’s capital, Kolkata. The state’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, has faced calls for resignation by the opposition in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The bill, titled the 'Aparajita Woman and Child Bill (West Bengal Criminal Laws and Amendment) Bill 2024', was tabled in the house by the state Law Minister Moloy Ghatak.

The bill seeks capital punishment for those convicted of rape and if the victim dies or ends up in a vegetative state. Moreover, it provides for a life sentence without parole for those convicted of rape.

The state assembly was specially convened for two days starting September 2 in the wake of strong protests across the country.

The bill is aimed at amending the existing provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, “in their application to the state of West Bengal to enhance punishment and to constitute the framework for…expeditious investigation and trial of the heinous act of violence against women and children.”

The bill also provides for setting up fast-track courts for rape cases.

“To expedite investigations and ensure swift justice for victims, this Bill proposes dedicated special courts and investigation teams. These specialised units will be equipped with the necessary resources and expertise to handle cases of rape of women and sexual offences against children efficiently, effectively and timely, thereby minimising the trauma experienced by victims and their families,” it states.

PM Modi lands in Brunei before Singapore as India aims to up its 'chips' in extended neighbourhood

A Class 12 student from Haryana’s Faridabad was allegedly chased down in a car by a group of people who mistook him for a cattle smuggler. The incident took place on Aug 23 and five people of the group, which claims to be cow vigilante, have been arrested, police said. The accused are identified as Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, Adesh and Saurabh.

The group mistook the victim, Aryan Mishra and his friends, Shanky and Harshit, for cattle smugglers and chased their car for about 30 kilometres near Haryana’s Gadhpuri on the Delhi- Agra National Highway.

The group had received information that cattle smugglers were roaming in the city in Renault Duster and Toyota Fortuner cars, picking up cattle. After this, the cow vigilante group decided to teach the alleged cow smugglers a lesson.&nbsp;

The accused saw a Duster&nbsp;car at Patel Chowk while he was looking for the cattle smugglers and asked the car driver, Harshit, to stop. However, Aryan and his friends didn’t stop their car and kept driving. Shanky, one of Aryan’s friends had some rivalry with some other group of people and he thought they had sent goons to attack them.
