Another drone attack in India’s Manipur: Militants drop bombs on security forces’ bunkers

A drone attack was reported in the Indian state of Manipur for a second consecutive day, local media said on Monday (Sept 2). A report by the Imphal Times said that in the early hours of Monday,Kuki militants launched a violent attack on Sinam village in the Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency, Imphal East district.

Citing sources, the report said thatmilitants used drones to drop bombs on bunkers and other property belonging to the security forces.

The report added that Monday's attackintensified concerns about the effectiveness of existing security measures.

Villagers express concerns

Villagers have expressed concerns about these attacks. Speaking to the Imphal Times, a local villager said that the recent attack had shattered the sense of security previously provided by local defence forces.

“How long will we have to endure such violence?,” the villager asked, urging the government to take immediate action to prevent further attacks.

What happened a day earlier?

A day earlier, two peoplewere killed and nine others injured when suspected militants launched a gun-and-bomb attack in Manipur's Imphal West district.

A report by The Hindu said that drones were used in the attack.The sudden assault on the unsuspecting village caused widespread panic, forcing many residents, including women, children, and the elderly, to flee to safer areas, the police said.

Security forces, including state and central units, were deployed in the area to stabilise the situation.
