Obviously, prison&nbsp;authorities haven’t met his demands citing rules that say all inmates must have the same food prepared in the jail kitchen. He was also reportedly severely reprimanded by the jail administration, after which he agreed to have roti-sabzi.

Earlier, when Roy was brought to the Alipore jail from Central Bureau of Investigation’s custody, he had urged the jail staff to have some sleep. He was also seen mumbling a few times initially. However, he is understood to have returned to his normal self.

The incident involved flight 6E0573, which departed Kolkata at 10:36 pm (local time). Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft's left engine failed, prompting the pilot to return to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

The emergency, which was declared at 10:39 pm (local time), was lifted at 11:08 pm after the plane landed safely at 10:53 pm.

This incident comes exactly one week after another IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Patna had to make an emergency landing in Nagpur due to a passenger’s sudden medical emergency. The passenger exhibited severe symptoms, including intense shaking, loss of consciousness, and body stiffness.

Upon landing, the passenger was rushed to KIMS-Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur, where doctors diagnosed the patient with a seizure disorder and provided emergency treatment.

The New Zealand fire service reported the event, confirming that the aircraft had to divert due to the mid-air fire.

Earlier in March, a United Airlines Boeing aircraft heading to Florida had to make an emergency landing in Texas soon after takeoff when its engine caught fire. Passengers reported seeing sparks from under the left wing near the windows, which were captured on video.

The police have arrested seven people, including two minors, in connection with the incident.

According to the authorities, Malik was called to a shop under the guise of selling empty plastic bottles. Once he went there the accused began hitting him.&nbsp;

Later, some local residents also stepped in,&nbsp;and the group took Malik to another location and continued to&nbsp;attack him, which eventually led to his death. Malik, who lived reportedly in a makeshift shelter near Bandhra village, earned his living by collecting waste and empty bottles.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday (Aug 31) postponed the assembly poll date for the northern state of Haryana to October 5. Earlier, the polls were scheduled to be held on October 1. The date for election results has also been changed to October 8, from October 4.

India’s Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana will go to polls in September and October. The polls in the Union Territory of J&amp;K will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25 and October 1.

Notably, the poll dates for J&amp;K have not been changed by the ECI.

The ECI in a notification cited the reasons why the decision to postpone polls was taken.

"Subsequently, representations have been received from National Political Parties, State Political Party and All India Bishnoi Mahasabha regarding mass movement of people of Bishnoi community of Haryana to Rajasthan to participate in centuries old Asoj Amavasya festival celebration," the top poll body said.

“It may deny voting rights to large number of people and may lead to reduce voters’ participation in general election to legislative assembly of Haryana,” it added.

"We extracted two keys, a four-inch long knife and two nail cutters from his stomach. When we asked the youth, he said he recently started swallowing metal objects. Now the youth is alright and his condition is improving," Dr Amit Kumar, who headed the surgery, said.

Despite the man ingesting metal objects and a delicate operation, he is recovering well at the hospital.&nbsp;

The boy's mother and the doctor say his social media addiction was to blame for the act. The doctor who conducted the operation said that social media seems to have taken a toll on his mental health and led him to perform weird acts.

People most prone to the disease include young children, pregnant women and those suffering from autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities and even schizophrenia.

The petition filed by advocate Yatin Sharma stated that the toothpaste packaging featured&nbsp;a green dot - typically associated with vegetarian products&nbsp;but the ingredient list included&nbsp;Sepia officinalis (common cuttlefish).&nbsp;

The toothpaste is manufactured by Divya Pharmacy, a subsidiary of Patanjali and is prominently marketed and sold in both offline and online stores.&nbsp;

The petitioner also claimed that Ramdev in one of his YouTube videos stated that&nbsp;"Samudra fen," used in the product, is animal-based, despite the product being marketed as vegetarian.&nbsp;

The petitioner claimed that the unintentional consumption of a non-vegetarian product had caused him distress and demanded redressal of the issue while highlighting the importance of transparency and adherence to religious beliefs.

"The gravity and effectiveness of the court's order are seriously questioned in this matter, highlighting the need for urgent judicial intervention. The member, speaking on condition of anonymity to the publication stated that Buch oversaw&nbsp;SEBI’s Adani probe “because it was ordered by the Supreme Court”.

The member said the probe was discussed with her informally too and at no point, Buch offered to recuse herself from these discussions.&nbsp;

If Buch did indeed oversee the investigation, it contradicts the position taken by the market regulator when it released a statement stating that&nbsp;Buch had “recused herself in matters involving potential conflicts of interest”.&nbsp;

"In spite of the pendency of 48,600 rape and POCSO cases in West Bengal, the State has not operationalised additional 11 FTSCs which may be exclusive POCSO courts or combined FTSCs dealing with both rape and POCSO cases, as per the state's requirement," said Annapurna Devi, Union minister for women and child development, in the letter.&nbsp;

“As may be seen, the information contained in your letter in this regard is factually incorrect and appears to be a step in the direction to cover up the delays in operationalising the FTSCs by the state,” the letter added.

District Tourism Officer Rahul Chaubey said that there was a plan to take the helicopter to Gauchar airstrip on Saturday, with the help of MI-17 aircraft for repair.&nbsp;

"As soon as it covered a little distance, the Mi-17 started losing balance due to the weight of the helicopter and wind, due to which the helicopter had to be dropped near Tharu camp. There was no passenger or luggage on the helicopter. The rescue team reached the spot as soon as the information was received. The team is inspecting the situation," the officer added.&nbsp;

He further confirmed that there was no passenger or luggage on the helicopter.&nbsp;

According to an Indian newspaper Amar Ujala, the chopper was run by a private company the same one that was involved in another incident on May 24, and made an emergency landing near Kedarnath.&nbsp;

During the incident, seven people, including six pilgrims were closely saved after the helicopter tried landing at the helipad in Kedarnath but&nbsp;failed due to a technical issue. It later managed to make an emergency landing in an open field.&nbsp;

Modi to visit Brunei on Sept 3; in a first ever visit by Indian Prime Minister

Although rainfall has stopped in the flood-hit Indian state of Gujarat, many towns and villages are still suffering from water logging due to high water levels of the rivers, reported news agency ANI, on Friday (Aug 30).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) alerted on Friday that the heavy rains and floods in the coastal state have now escalated to Cyclone Asna. This cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea became the first after 1979.&nbsp;The name Asna was&nbsp;given by Pakistan.&nbsp;

According to the weather department, the cyclone will be moving towards the west-northwestward over the northeast Arabian Sea, far from the Indian coast. This will occur over the next two days.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that he and&nbsp;Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a discussion over the phone about the flood situation and ongoing measures to be taken for the victims. The call took place on Thursday (Aug 29) morning.

The heavy rainfall and flood situation&nbsp;in Gujarat has&nbsp;resulted in over 26 fatalities in the past four days. Up to 18,000 people have been saved from the affected areas, and 1,200 people have been moved from their residences.

In a welcome news for the LGBTQ community in India, people in a queer relationship will no longer face any restriction on opening a joint bank account or nominating a person as a beneficiary to receive the money, the Finance Ministry said in a circular.&nbsp;

"This is to clarify that there are no restrictions for persons of the queer community to open a joint bank account and also to nominate a person in a queer relationship as a nominee to receive the balance in the account in the event of the account holder," read an advisory that the ministry shared on August 28.

The ministry added that a clarification regarding the issue had also been issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to all scheduled commercial banks, earlier this month.&nbsp;

India: LGBTQ persons can open joint bank accounts, nominate beneficiaries

India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and West Bengal police locked horns Friday (Aug 30) amid claims that the crime scene of the rape and murder case&nbsp;at&nbsp;Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital may have been “compromised”.

The CBI earlier alleged that the crime scene where the 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered was tampered with. The central agency claimed in India’s Supreme Court that the victim’s family was misled over their daughter’s death and that efforts were made to brush off the gruesome incident as “suicide.”

Kolkata police were quick to retaliate as CBI’s allegations directly raised a question of their efficiency. They claimed that all individuals present at the scene, as depicted in a photograph, were fully authorised to be there. Amidst this, a photo went viral on social media showing a crowd present inside the seminar hall where the incident took place.

Kolkata police clarified all people present in the hall were part of the investigative team.

"We are talking about the photo in question. The area is cordoned off. The body is behind it. I am telling you the names of all the people who are in the picture and are a part of the investigation team," claimed Indira Mukherjee, DCP Central, Kolkata police.

The police further claimed that the photo was taken on August 9, after a preliminary investigation had already been completed.

In the country’s top court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who was representing the CBI, also highlighted the delay in filing the FIR.

"As we entered the fifth day of the investigation, everything was altered, including the crime scene," he added.

"The most shocking fact is that the first FIR was registered at 11:45 pm after cremation. The parents were told it was a suicide, then death and then friends of the doctor at the hospital insisted on videography. They also suspected something was amiss," Mehta said.

The CBI also blamed the hospital administration for mishandling the sensitive matter.

‘Always advocated constructive dialogue,’ India on making efforts to end Ukraine conflict

India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth slowed to 6.7 per cent&nbsp;in the first quarter of the 2024-25 financial year, marking the lowest increase in five quarters, a decline from the 7.8 per cent&nbsp;growth recorded in the previous quarter.

The latest GDP figures also fall short of the 8.2 per cent&nbsp;growth seen in the same period last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Friday (August 30).

According to reports, Tanuj was living as a monk in a hut in the Kharar area on the Parikrama path in&nbsp;Uttar Pradesh's Vrindavan. To hide from the police and prevent himself from getting arrested, he concealed his identity by growing a beard and long hair.&nbsp;

A report by the Times of India&nbsp;said that the accused is a relative of Prithvi’s mother. To hide his identity, he cunningly changed his physical appearance and never introduced himself to new people. He started considering Prithvi as his son.&nbsp;

On August 27, the police received the information that Tanuj had gone to Aligarh. When the special team arrived to arrest him, he tried to flee into the fields with Prithvi but got arrested after an eight-kilometre chase.&nbsp;

As per the investigation officers, Tanuj wanted to keep Prithivi and his mother, Poonam Chaudhary, with him, but Poonam did not want to go with him. Therefore, Tanuj and his friends kidnapped Prithvi when he was 11 months old to threaten his mother to comply with Tanju's&nbsp;demands.&nbsp;

Two-year-old-boy refuses to leave his kidnapper after staying with him for 14 months

Two men have been booked here on the charge of abetment of suicide after two Dalit girls, aged 15 and 18, were found hanging, police said on Friday.

Their bodies were found hanging on an orchard on Tuesday, they said.

The men were booked under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Thursday following a complaint from the girls' family members, Superintendent of Police (SP) Alok Priyadarshi said.

"The accused are in police custody and will be put under arrest after questioning," he said.

"Police investigation findings correlate with the post-mortem report that the girls committed suicide. No injury marks have been found on the bodies," Priyadarshi had said on Wednesday.
