<p>Earlier this week, some media reports claimed, citing messages from the WhatsApp group of KU M R Gardi Vidyalaya school, that students from class 9 and above were made members of the BJP and given cards under a membership campaign.</p>

<p>The students were enrolled as BJP members through the phones of their parents. There are allegations that the students were then handed national flags and were photographed before being registered as party members.</p>

<p>Mukesh Nimavat, the school’s principal, defended himself saying the exercise was done to download a government educational app on the phones.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the BJP said it was an action to defame the party, citing rules that bar registration of members below the age of 18.</p>

I am investigating who is involved… As per primary investigation that we have conducted, it was revealed that no party member, taluka president, village sarpanch, or worker had gone to the school for the membership drive.”</p>

<p>A Kolkata court on Friday (Aug 13) denied the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the permission to conduct a narco test on the prime accused of the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case. The CBI wanted to extract more information from Sanjay Roy by placing him in a semi-conscious state, but the court refused to grant approval.</p>

<p>Earlier on Thursday, the CBI gathered dental impressions and saliva samples from Roy to compare with the bite marks found on the victim’s dead body. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is aiding the federal investigative agency in tracing and analysing key evidence linked to the crime.</p>

<h2><strong>Agitating doctors demand president’s, PM’s intervention</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, junior doctors in the Indian state of&nbsp;West Bengal, who have been demanding justice for the victim, wrote a four-page letter to President Droupadi Murmu, seeking her urgent intervention in the case.</p>

<p>The copies of the letter were also dispatched to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, urging support from the Centre.</p>

<p>The demand comes amidst the ongoing impasse between the state government, led by CM Mamata Banerjee, and the medics.</p>

<p>"We humbly place the issues before your esteemed excellency, as the head of state, so that our unfortunate colleague who has been the victim of the most despicable crime shall receive justice, and so that we, the healthcare professionals under the West Bengal Health Department, may be able to discharge our duties to the public without fear and apprehension," the letter read.</p>

<p>Justice Bhuyan, meanwhile, said that the CBI's arrest&nbsp;was only a measure to make meaningless bail in the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) case.</p>

<p>Bhuyan expressed reservations about restraining Kejriwal from entering the CM's office or signing files, but he eventually agreed to these conditions, as imposed by another bench while granting him bail in the ED case.</p>

<p>"CBI must ensure that the perception of it being a ‘caged parrot’ is discarded. It must be above board," he added.</p>

<h2><strong>The arrest</strong></h2>

<p>Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering investigation relating to alleged irregularities in the excise policy case.</p>

<p>On May 10, the Delhi chief minister was given bail till June 1 given the Lok Sabha elections in the country. He surrendered in prison on June 2.</p>

<p>On June 26, Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI while he was in custody of the ED.</p>

<p>On July 12, the apex court granted interim bail to Kejriwal&nbsp;in the money laundering probe by the ED. However, Kejriwal remained incarcerated since he was in custody due to&nbsp;a separate case being investigated by CBI in the excise policy matter.</p>

<h2><strong>The reactions to Kejriwal's release from jail</strong></h2>

<p>In a post on X, Kejriwal's wife Sunita said, "Congratulations to AAP family! Kudos for staying strong. Wishing also the soonest release of our other leaders."</p>

<p>"It has been proven once again that there is no other politician as true, honest and patriot like Arvind Kejriwal. BJP hatched thousands of conspiracy to arrest him. An honest man who was working to improve the lives of people was jailed, there is no greater sin than this in the history of democracy. Today, we salute and thank the Supreme Court, Constitution and Babasaheb," former Delhi Deputy CM&nbsp;Manish Sisodia said.</p>

<p>"This is not a victory of truth, lies have also been exposed. Supreme Court observed that arrest by CBI was planned to stop his release in the ED case...People prayed for him and their prayers have been answered today, I thank them and the Almighty..." he&nbsp;added.</p>

<p>Sisodia was given bail in the case on August 9.</p>

I am hoping that people will support him. He is a political prisoner and ECI has made it very easy for people. His daughter and son are living like orphans, and no one has gone to help them,"&nbsp;said Adil Nazir, Representative of Barkati.</p>

<p>In another shocking incident, a gang rape attempt was made on an on-duty nurse at a private hospital in India's Bihar, the police said on Thursday (Sep 12). The nurse, boldly, escaped the&nbsp;scene after cutting off the private parts of the alleged assaulter with a blade.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident took place at the RBS Health Care Centre in Bihar's Gangapur, while the doctor, who tried to assault the woman, and his two associates, were intoxicated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The nurse was finishing off her work at the hospital when the accused came and tried to allegedly rape her. The nurse managed to flee from there after cutting the attacker and called the police from a nearby field.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Bihar police said that one of the assaulters was a doctor and also served as the RBS Health Care Centre administrator in Gangapur. According to the police report, the accused have been identified as Dr Sanjay Kumar and his associates Sunil Kumar Gupta and Awadhesh Kumar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police said that the trio locked the hospital from inside and turned off CCTV cameras before attacking the nurse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Moreover, the alleged attackers&nbsp;were also drinking alcohol before trying to assault the nurse, which is also an offence in the dry state of Bihar.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Accused arrested</strong></h2>

<p>Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Pandey said that a team was rushed to the hospital and three people were arrested after taking safe custody of the nurse.&nbsp;</p>

The police said that the trio locked the hospital from inside and turned off CCTV cameras before attacking the nurse. Moreover, the alleged attackers were also drinking alcohol before trying to assault the nurse, which is also an offence in the dry state of Bihar. <p>Justice Bhuyan, meanwhile, said that the CBI's arrest&nbsp;was only a measure to make meaningless bail in the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) case.</p>

<p>Bhuyan expressed reservations about restraining Kejriwal from entering the CM's office or signing files, but he eventually agreed to these conditions, as imposed by another bench while granting him bail in the ED case.</p>

<p>"CBI must ensure that the perception of it being a ‘caged parrot’ is discarded. It must be above board," he added.</p>

<h2><strong>BJP reacts to SC giving bail to Kejriwal</strong></h2>

<p>Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said that Kejriwal's arrest was constitutional.</p>

<p>"His argument in the court was that his arrest was illegal. The SC has said today that the appellant's arrest does not suffer from any illegality... The arrest was constitutional... The Supreme Court busted the propaganda of the Aam Aadmi Party... Arvind Kejriwal never got relief from any court and no charges have been quashed... He has not been discharged," Bhatia said.</p>

<p>"There is no question of acquittal because the trial will continue... The AAP has to answer why Arvind Kejriwal is not resigning... The BJP has zero tolerance against corruption... The corrupt Arvind Kejriwal will bow down one day and the people will take the resignation from him...," he added.</p>

<p>BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, meanwhile, said that an accused was coming out on bail.</p>

I was not allowed any mode of communication because I refused to support the BJP," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rashid continued, "It’s sad that Omar Abdullah made such statements like it’s the victory of Islamists. Now he says the BJP wants to divide the votes in Kashmir. He did not speak about people for the last five years and that’s why he had to beg by taking his cap off in Ganderbal."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The other political parties are campaigning aggressively as well. The Congress and National Conference presidents held a joint rally in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Dr Farooq Abdullah and Malikkarjun Kharge were present at the rally/ Congress President Kharge took a direct dig at the BJP and Modi government.</p>

<p>"They used to say 400 paar, where are those 400 seats? They stopped at 240, if we had 20 more seats then all these people would have been in jail," Kharge said.</p>

In the highest courts of the country, there is almost no participation of 90 per cent of India. In media, there is zero participation of lower castes, OBCs, Dalits."</p>

<p>Yechury joined the CPI(M) party in 1975, starting his political career with the Students' Federation of India.</p>

<p>He was arrested during the emergency imposed by former Indian PM Indira Gandhi in 1975, as he played a key role in national politics. During that time, he was also pursuing his doctorate in Economics from&nbsp;JNU.</p>

<p>West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed her condolences. "Sad to know that Sri Sitaram Yechury has passed away. I knew the veteran parliamentarian that he was and his demise will be a loss for the national politics. I express my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," she said in a post on X.</p>

<p>"There's an elephant in the room. When we talk about the capture of institutions, businesses, and the media, the elephant in the room is that 90 per cent of India--OBCs, Dalits, Adivasis--aren't even part of the game. That's the elephant in the room," Rahul Gandhi said.</p>

<p>"The fact of the matter is they are not getting participation. The problem is that 90 per cent of India is not able to play...We will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place and India is not a fair place. Now, that creates a problem.
