The minister said 16 committees were formed on Saturday night itself and a contact list of 151 people has been identified.

She said the man had travelled with his friends to various places and the close contacts had been isolated. 
"Minor fever and symptoms were found in five of those under isolation and their samples have been sent for testing," the minister said.

A boy from Malappuram, who was undergoing treatment for Nipah infection, died on July 21. It was the first confirmed case of Nipah infection in the state this year.

Nipah outbreaks have been reported in Kozhikode district in 2018, 2021 and 2023 and in Ernakulam district in 2019, and the presence of Nipah virus antibodies had been detected in bats in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Idukki, Malappuram and Ernakulam districts.

Mondal is also accused of protecting Sanjay Roy, the suspect who had unauthorised access to the crime scene. The victim was found raped and murdered in the seminar hall, where she had gone to rest. A doctor discovered her body.

Sanjay Roy, a police volunteer, was arrested the following day after CCTV footage showed him entering the room at 4:03 am. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi later found Roy’s account to be "deceptive on certain important issues," PTI reported.

The Indian government has started the exercise to conduct the long-delayed population census and an announcement regarding the matter is expected soon, according to a report in TOI. 

The centre is also believed to be keeping an 'open mind' to the idea of adding a caste column to the census, owing to the demand of the opposition parties.&nbsp;

The once-in-a-decade census was to be completed in 2021 but got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time the census data was published was in 2011.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Work on holding the census is already on and a decision in this regard is likely soon," a senior government functionary was quoted as saying by the publication.&nbsp;

"This (caste count) is yet to be decided," the official added.&nbsp;

The last time a census featured a caste column was way back in 1931. However, the government stopped the exercise after independence.&nbsp;

According to reports, the&nbsp;Ministry of Home Affairs, which takes the lead in conducting the&nbsp;census, and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation have drawn up a timeline and are aiming to release results by March 2026, covering a period of 15 years.

The critics have argued that the delay in the census&nbsp;impacts the quality of many other statistical surveys, including economic data, inflation, and job estimates.

In a fresh twist in the political arena of Jammu and Kashmir, Engineer Rashid's Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has forged an alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. National Conference leaders allege that these alliances are at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which wants to divide the vote in the valley.

The AIP-JEI coalition said their strategic alliance will champion the cause of the people of J&amp;K. While Jamaat is fighting electoral politics after four long decades, the AIP is also fielding candidates across the valley for the first time.

A joint meeting of the AIP delegation was led by MP Rashid while the JEI delegation was led by Ghulam Qadir Wani. Following deliberations, it was agreed that AIP would support JEI-backed candidates in Kulgam and Pulwama.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has invited the protesting doctors for one last meeting to address their issues. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday (Sep 16) at 5 pm local time, according to the email sent by Dr Manoj Pant, the chief secretary of the state.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the honourable chief minister and your delegates," read the mail.&nbsp;

"The meeting is scheduled for 5 PM today ie 16th September 2024 at Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Kalighat residence. The same delegation which came for the last discussions is requested to arrive at the venue at 4:45 PM today."

The previous meeting at Mamata's residence could not go ahead after the doctors demanded to livestream it to ensure full transparency.&nbsp;

The doctors also requested that a videographer be allowed inside the Bengal CM's premises to record the meeting. However, Mamata refused to allow any of the demands saying the case was sub-judice.&nbsp;

“As RG Kar issue is before the court, we cannot allow live streaming.&nbsp;I will do the minutes, sign it as well," said Mamata.&nbsp;

She also berated the protesting doctors by claiming they had "insulted" her by requesting the meeting but refusing to enter the house.&nbsp;“I have waited for 2 hours”, the CM added.

The CBI alleged that Mondal took an "unusually long time to arrive at the scene of the crime," even though it was "only a five-minute drive." According to the investigative agency, the Tala police station in-charge was "informed about the incident at 10.03 am but he reached the spot at 11 am."

Furthermore, the lawyer pointed out a "14-hour delay in registering an FIR," and also raised questions regarding the filing of a "general diary by the police, stating that the victim was lying unconscious".

"He was obligated to register the FIR. They tried to pass it off as a suicide. There was a clear dereliction of duty. Custodial interrogation of both individuals is necessary."

India launches operation 'Sadbhav' sends relief worth thousands of dollars to Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday (Sep 14)&nbsp;detained the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,&nbsp;Sandip Ghosh, and a police officer for the delay in registering the FIR in connection with the rape and murder case of a junior medic in the Indian city of Kolkata&nbsp;last month.

Ghosh was previously detained for&nbsp;financial irregularities in a separate case. He is in judicial custody till September 23.

The CBI has accused&nbsp;Ghosh of misleading the investigators and hiding the evidence.

The federal investigative agency had conducted a second round of polygraph tests on the ex-principal on August 26 as part of their probe into the rape and murder case.

"To become a prime minister is not the aim in my life. I am loyal to my conviction and organisation and I am not going to compromise for any post, because my conviction is most important to me. I think that this conviction is the biggest strength of Indian democracy," he added.&nbsp;

During the gathering, Gadkari also revealed an incident about a journalist 'blackmailing' one of his officers. The minister said he told the officer to thrash the journalist to teach him a lesson.&nbsp;

“One of my officers informed me about this blackmail. I told him, ‘When that journalist comes to your office, lock the door and give him a good thrashing.’ And they did. After that, the publication he worked for stopped circulating,” said Gadkari.&nbsp;

The Nagpur MP also shared another story from Marathwada, where a government official was harassed by a journalist demanding advertisements. Gadkari said the journalist even went as far as filing a police complaint accusing the official of misconduct.
