Twelve people died and around 30 other passengers got injured after a private bus crashed into the wing wall of a flyover in Rajasthan's Sikar district on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

District Superintendent of Police, Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, said a private bus coming from Salasar to Laxmangarh rammed into a part of the flyover in Laxmangarh while taking a turn. According to the police, the bus was speeding and full&nbsp;of passengers due to which the driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into the wing wall of the flyover.

The right side of the bus got completely crushed and the driver died on the spot. A crane was brought to take out the passengers stuck inside, the officials&nbsp;said.

Sikar IGP Satyendra Singh said some of the injured have been referred to Jaipur and others are undergoing treatment at SK Hospital.

Twelve people have died in the accident, he said.

Vinita, Seema, Kiran Kanwar, Kamla, Banarasi Meghwal, Aditya Meghwal and Pramod Singh are among those killed in the accident. Efforts are on to identify the rest, the police said.

A team of doctors and administration has taken control of the situation and all arrangements have been made. All passengers are local residents. Their family members have been informed, the IGP said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has expressed grief over the accident.

India’s top election body on Tuesday (Oct 29) rubbished the Congress party’s allegations of irregularities in the recent&nbsp;polls in Haryana state. The Election Commission of India said the Congress party is raising smoke of ‘generic doubts,’ stressing that each step in the whole process was carried out flawlessly.

"After a thorough reverification by Returning officers of all the 26 Assembly Constituencies under question, ECI writes to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge that each step in electoral process in Haryana was flawless and done under the watch of Congress candidates or agents," the ECI said in a letter.

The election body also warned the political parties against making ‘baseless’ allegations which can cause issues in the country.

"It is needless to remind that such frivolous and unfounded doubts have the potential of creating turbulence when crucial steps like polling and counting are in live play, a time when both public and political parties’ anxiousness is peaking," the ECI warned.

The poll body also stressed that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the process are totally “un-hackable.”

India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday (Oct 29) said that they had busted a clandestine methamphetamine manufacturing laboratory in Gautam Budh Nagar of Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region).&nbsp;

The NCB and the Delhi police conducted a joint operation, in which they busted the lab which has been linked to the Mexican drug cartel – Cartel De Jalisco Nueva Generacion.&nbsp;

Indian nationals were running the laboratory in an industrial area in Kasna Industrial Area of district Gautam Budh Nagar, the NCB said in a statement on Tuesday. &nbsp;

According to the statement, the lab was meant to make synthetic drugs like methamphetamine for export to other countries as well as consumption in India.

NCB’s DDG Kumar Singh said, “Acting on information that a laboratory had been established in NCR of Delhi for production of synthetic drugs like methamphetamine for export to other countries as well as consumption in India, in which members of Mexican CJNG drug cartel (Cartel De Jalisco Nueva Generacion), are also involved, NCB conducted search operation in a factory in Kasana Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar district October 25, 2024 and found about 95 kg of Methamphetamine in solid and liquid forms.”

But the tourists are unfazed by these attacks. As per recent data, every day around 7-8 thousand people arrive in Kashmir and among them 3-4 thousand are tourists.

"I love it here, I am very happy to visit here and Kashmir is very lovely. It's a paradise on earth. We are feeling very safe and there seems to be no problem or issue with the situation. Kashmir is very pretty, and I would tell all my friends to come and visit Kashmir,"&nbsp;said Shafaq Khan, a tourist.

Local tourism seems resilient despite the attacks. A huge number of tourists coming during the festival season are enjoying the world-famous Dal Lake Shikara rides along with their families. The tourism stakeholders are expecting winter tourism to pick up as it has been in the last few years. Kashmir Valley is expecting record-breaking tourist arrivals this winter season.

We have Diwali coming up and people will be travelling around that time. We are getting a lot of queries. We have four seasons, and Kashmir has become an all-year destination. In India, Karni Sena, a right-wing organisation, has publicly announced a significant cash reward for any prisoner who manages to kill notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, currently held in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The army had launched a search operation after the attack on the Army convoy which led to the gunfight.

"We salute the supreme sacrifice of our true hero—a valiant #IndianArmy Dog, #Phantom," wrote White Knight Corps on X.

"As our troops were closing in on the trapped terrorists,&nbsp;Phantom&nbsp;drew enemy fire, sustaining fatal injuries. His courage, loyalty, and dedication will never be forgotten," it added.

According to the Army, in the operation, one terrorist was "neutralised and warlike stores have been recovered thus far".

The police encounter started at around 7.25 am near the Shivassan temple, which is located in the Jogwan region of Battal. The police have not reported any additional fatalities so far.

The Indian Army's BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles were also deployed to the encounter site.

The Army also used its four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles to carry out surveillance and strengthen the cordon near the attack site, reported PTI.&nbsp;

“The partnership between India and Spain is like a prism that is multidimensional, vibrant and ever evolving. I would invite Spanish industry and innovators to come to India and become our partners in our development journey,” said PM Modi, speaking in Hindi.

The two sides formalised a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in rail transport, which aims to foster cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, rail systems, and equipment, alongside urban and regional railway networks. Another agreement was signed on customs cooperation and assistance, with plans for a fast-track mechanism to facilitate investments. Additionally, the year 2026 will be celebrated as the “India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism, and AI.”

Spain, the EU's fifth-largest economy, has a bilateral trade volume with India nearing $10 billion. India and Spain are also supportive of a swift and impactful free trade agreement between India and the EU, according to Lal.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand told news agency PTI, “Reliable information has been placed before us that several organisations/parties are trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in Hyderabad city, by resorting to dharnas and protests.”

To ensure order and stability in Hyderabad, a police notification stated that all individuals and groups are prohibited from engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace. "Individual/groups of individuals are prohibited from making any speeches, gestures or displaying pictures, any symbols, placards, flags, and any type of message of electronic form etc., which is likely to cause disturbance to public peace and order in the limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad," it read.

These orders are in effect from 6 pm&nbsp;on October 27 until 6 pm on November 28. Police personnel, military members on duty, authorised funeral processions, flying squads from the education department, and any exempted individuals or groups have been excluded from these restrictions.

The orders come as the city prepares for the upcoming festival season, including Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, and Goverdhan Puja.

The move has faced opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which claims the ruling Congress government is targeting Hindu festivals. In a unique event held on the famous Dal Lake of Srinagar, over 150 females participated in a boat race, breaking all the stereotypical barriers and taking a step in the direction of women's empowerment and inclusivity.

Kashmir Valley's famous athlete and India's first female Chief Jury at the Paris Olympics, Bilkis Mir, organised the event. Bilkis has been working with Kashmiri women for years to train them in water sports, and she says this was a historic&nbsp;day in the valley to have so many women showcasing their talent on one platform.

''It was a historic day as it was the first such&nbsp;race for women. There are always events for men, whether it's cricket or other tournaments, but for women, there are very few. This was very unique, as these girls have stepped outside their houses and become a part of this race. It also helped unmask a lot of young talent, and we got new talent by this race. We are adopting 35 girls, and we are going to train them for national and international events,'' said Bilkis.

The young girls who participated in the event showed excitement and also wished that more such events were held in the valley. Providing platforms for local girls to showcase their talent and allowing them to prove their mettle on national and international levels is a dream for them.

''I am very happy to be a part of this race which was held for the first time in the Valley. There were over 100 participants, and three girls won. I want more such events to be held in the Valley. It was great and sports are very important for girls. People who say girls are not meant for sports are not true. Our teacher is called the aqua queen, and she inspires all of us,'' said Madiha Farooq, a participant.

Each participant received a certificate and a&nbsp;cash prize, with special awards for the top three finishers.

The much-delayed decadal census exercise and the work to update the National Population Register (NPR) are likely to begin early 2025 and the data will be released by 2026, thus changing future census cycles completely, official sources said.&nbsp;

However, no decision has been taken yet on whether caste census will also be carried out along with the general census.

The country's population count has been conducted every 10 years since 1951, but the census work in 2021 could not be carried out due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, no formal announcement has been made on its next schedule.

"In all probability, the work for the census and the NPR will begin early next year and the population data will be announced by 2026. With this, the census cycle is likely to be changed. So, it will be 2025-2035 and then 2035-2045 and so on in future," sources privy to the thinking of the government said.

The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner had prepared 31 questions to be asked to the citizens during the census exercise.

These questions include whether the head of the household belongs to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe and other family members as asked in the previous census.

Opposition Congress and the RJD are among the political parties which have been demanding a caste census so that the total OBC population in the country is known.

"The government has not yet taken any decision on caste census," a source said.

It is to be seen whether the government will go ahead with the delimitation exercise, which is due in 2026, after the census data is published.

Several political leaders from Southern states have expressed their apprehensions over the possibility of their states losing out on Lok Sabha seats and thereby their political clout as they have been successful in population control, unlike the northern states.

They feel that the southern states may get less number of parliamentary seats than the existing number of constituencies if the delimitation is carried out with the new data.

On the other hand, the Article 82 of the Constitution states: "Provided also that until the relevant figures for the first census taken after the year 2026 have been published, it shall not be necessary to readjust the allocation of seats in the House of the People to the States as readjusted on the basis of the 1971 census".

It means if the census is conducted in 2025 and data published in 2026, delimitation exercises cannot be carried out based on 2025 census data. If it happens, then Article 82 has to be amended.

"All these factors will have to look into before any decision is taken on delimitation," a source said.

The 31 questions to be asked to each family under the census exercise include the total number of persons normally residing in the household, whether the head of the household is a woman, the number of dwelling rooms exclusively in possession of the household, the number of married couple(s) living in the household among others.

The questions also include whether a family has a telephone, internet connection, mobile or smartphone, bicycle, scooter or motorcycle or moped, and whether they own a car, jeep or a van.

The citizens will also be asked what cereal they consume in the household, the main source of drinking water, main source of lighting, access to latrine, type of latrine, waste water outlet, availability of bathing facility, availability of kitchen and LPG/PNG connection, main fuel used for cooking, availability of radio, transistor, television etc.

The census of India is recorded every decade, with the first one being held in 1872. The first census post-Independence was recorded in 1951 and the last one in 2011.

According to the 2011 data, India's total population was 121 crore, sex ratio was 940 females per 1,000 males, literacy rate was 74.04 per cent and the population growth was 17.64 per cent from 2001 to 2011.

A total of 68.84 per cent of the population lived in rural areas, while 31.16 per cent lived in urban areas and the country then had 28 states and seven union territories with Uttar Pradesh recording the most populous state, with a population of roughly 20 crore.

The least populous Union Territory was Lakshadweep with a population of 64,429. Rajasthan was the largest state geographically, with an area of 342,239 sq km and Goa was the smallest state, with an area of 3,702 sq km.

Centre likely to commence population census in 2025 after four-year delay

Shockingly, Indians have lost over Rs 120.3 crores in the digital arrest scam in the first quarter of 2024.&nbsp;

According to data revealed by the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), about 0.74 million complaints were received between January 1 and April 30, 2024, and 46 per cent of the complaints included trading scams, investment scams, and digital arrests.&nbsp;

They use pressure tactics like accusing the victim of being involved in illegal activities and asking them to stay under ‘Digital Arrest’. During his recent episode of Mann Ki Baat, the PM mentioned that no official will investigate and ask for money or a fine over call. He also informed people that there is no such punishment as ‘Digital Arrest’ under the Indian legal system.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also explained a three-step strategy to be safe from digital arrest. He said, “Be aware that no investigating agency conducts such interrogations over the phone or video call. The three steps to digital security are: stop, think and act,”&nbsp;

Modi said, the first step when you receive a call is ‘stop’ and the second is ‘think’. He stressed that no official agency like the police will threaten or ask for money over video calls.&nbsp;

The third step is to take the necessary steps. He urged victims to dial 1930—the national cyber helpline—and also report these incidents on the official website cybercrime.gov.in.&nbsp;

While highlighting the digital arrest during the episode, he shared that scammers often impersonate CBI, narcotics, RBI, or police and converse as fake officers. He also said that listeners of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ showed interest in discussing this issue.&nbsp;

“People from every class and age group fall victim to digital arrest. People have lost lakhs of rupees earned through their hard work, out of sheer fear. Whenever you receive such a call, don’t be scared. You should be aware that no investigative agency ever inquires like this through a phone call or a video call,” PM Modi said.

During the episode, PM Modi also said that agencies have blocked thousands of video-call IDs, over lakh SIM cards, mobile phones, and bank accounts.&nbsp;

He said that agencies are trying very hard to save people from cyber fraud, but for protection from these scams, every citizen must be aware of them. He also asked victims of digital arrest or other cyber frauds to share it with as many people as possible to promote awareness about these scams.&nbsp;
