Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman BR Naidu on Monday (Nov 4) rejected the comparison of the Waqf Board with the governing body of Tirumala by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.&nbsp;

Naidu said that making a comparison between the two bodies is baseless since Waqf Board is a real estate company and Tirumala is a temple.

"This statement is baseless, the waqf board is a real estate company... How can he compare it with Tirumala? Tirumala is a Hindu temple. There have been demands for many years that non-Hindus should not be in Tirumala. It is not my personal (opinion)... Sanatana Dharma says only Hindus should be there. We are working on that and we will decide in the first board meeting," said the TTD chairman.

Last week, Owaisi said that if Muslims cannot become trustees of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), then even a non-Muslim cannot be on the Waqf board.

On Saturday (Nov 2), Owaisi said that the proposed Waqf amendment bill of the government, which has made the inclusion of two non-Muslims on the panel, is not right.

"Not even a single member of the 24 members of TTD Board (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) is a non-Hindu...The new Chairman of TTD says that the people working there should be Hindu...We are not against this, we just have an objection to the fact that Narendra Modi's government is saying in the proposed bill of Waqf that in the central Waqf Council, it has been made mandatory that 2 non-Muslim members should be there...Why are you bringing this provision in the&nbsp;Waqf bill?," said Owaisi.

"TTD is a board of the Hindu religion and Waqf Board is for the Muslim religion. There should be parity...When the trustees of TTD cannot be Muslims, how will a non-Muslim member be on the Waqf Board?," he further stated.

Last week, BR Naidu said that he would speak to the government about transferring or giving voluntary retirement to the non-Hindu employees who are working with them.

The foam has raised concern regarding increasing pollution levels in&nbsp;Delhi-NCR. Since the foam is indicative of severe pollution, the authorities have deployed chemical defoamers to mitigate the issue.

Footage was shared by news agency ANI on Sunday (Nov. 3) in which toxic foam was seen floating on the Yamuna River at Kalindi Kunj where pollution levels have remained very high.

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla criticised the Delhi government and blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the increasing pollution in the Yamuna River.

“Arvind Kejriwal is responsible for turning Delhi into a gas chamber; we now have to wear masks. They blame&nbsp;Uttar Pradesh&nbsp;but ignore the stubble burning in Punjab. They have failed to address the root causes of pollution in Delhi," he added.

According to the water utility's officials, the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) teams started spraying anti-foaming solutions near Okhla.

As per the DJB officials, nearly 12-15 tonnes of a diluted anti-foaming agent will be sprayed and the exercise will continue&nbsp;till Chhath.

Delhi's Yamuna gets covered by toxic foam, raising concerns ahead of Chhath Puja

In India's Uttarakhand, early Monday (Nov 4) a tragic bus accident on the Pauri-Almora border left 36 dead, including children, as the vehicle tumbled into a steep gorge.

The accident took place near Kupi in Uttarakhand's Ramnagar region. The bus, reportedly travelling from Garhwal to Kumaon, fell into a gorge in the remote, mountainous area where rescue operations are underway amidst difficult terrain.

Almora's disaster management officer Vineet Pal told PTI,&nbsp;"At least 20 fatalities have been confirmed, with several others injured who have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Local villagers are assisting rescue workers in locating passengers still trapped in the wreckage."

<h2>State resources mobilised&nbsp;</h2>

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, as per ANI, has mobilised state resources and directed the Secretary of Disaster Management, the Commissioner of Kumaon Division, and the District Magistrate of Almora to expedite relief and rescue efforts.&nbsp;

With the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on site, rescue teams are working quickly to evacuate survivors and provide medical aid.&nbsp;

"Very sad news has been received about the casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchula of the Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to carry out relief and rescue operations swiftly," Dhami posted on X.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a statement on Saturday (Nov 2) announced that it has filed a prosecution complaint against eight individuals in Bengaluru, linked to a widespread scam involving "fake" Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and deceptive investment applications targetting ordinary citizens.

An ED probe has unveiled an extensive network of cyber scams operating within India, predominantly on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

"Probe found that a huge network of cyber scams in India, involving fake stock market investments and digital arrest schemes are executed primarily through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram," said the ED in a statement.

"Known as 'pig-butchering' scams, stock market investment scams entice victims with promises of high returns, using fake websites and misleading WhatsApp groups that appear connected to reputable financial firms," it added.

The ED said that some of the victims of this scam were "manipulated" by fraudsters using fake arrests. Criminals pose as officials from agencies like the Customs Department or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to coerce victims into transferring large amounts of money by concocting scenarios that falsely implicate them in illegal activities. This method of psychological manipulation can devastate victims financially and emotionally.

The ED's chargesheet, filed on October 10, identifies the eight accused individuals as&nbsp;Charan Raj C, Kiran S K, Shahi Kumar M, Sachin M, Tamilarasan, Prakash R, Ajith R, and Aravindan, and&nbsp;24 associated shell companies. All accused individuals are currently in judicial custody, with the ED alleging that the total proceeds from these cybercrimes amount to an astonishing ₹159 crore.

According to the ED's findings, the perpetrators obtained numerous SIM cards linked to shell company bank accounts, which were then used to create untraceable WhatsApp accounts. This anonymity provided them with the means to execute their scams with a significantly reduced risk of detection. The criminals established 24 shell companies across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and other states to facilitate the laundering of the illicit proceeds.

In light of the escalating threat, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) issued a public advisory, urging people to "Beware of Digital Arrests". They cautioned that "those making video calls are not police, CBI, Customs officials or judges," but are, in fact, cybercriminals.&nbsp;

The advisory encourages anyone encountering such scams to report them promptly through the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 or by visiting the website www.cybercrime.gov.in.

Pakistan’s Lahore city recorded unprecedented levels of air pollution on Saturday (Nov 2), with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 1,900. This is the highest-ever pollution recorded near the India-Pakistan border.

The data was released by both the provincial government and the Swiss group IQAir. Lahore, which is Pakistan’s second-largest city, topped IQAir’s real-time list of the world’s most polluted cities on Sunday (Nov 3).&nbsp;

According to Swiss air quality rating agency IQAir, the AQI in Lahore surged to 1,067 around 9:30 am, which hit 1,900 later in the day.

The Lahore administration took several measures in response to pollution crises. Primary schools in several cities, including Lahore have been closed for a week and parents are advised to ask their kids to wear masks.

India's Election Commission postpones bypolls in Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh to Nov 20

Delhi woke up to the worst air quality of the season so far, with AQI reported at 600 and above in as many areas as Anand Vihar, according to the Aqicn website data. The overall air quality in the national capital stood at 317 on Monday (Nov 4), as of 8:00 am.

The pollution level, which is measured in PM 2.5 concentration, is currently 59 times higher in the capital city than the WHO-prescribed danger limit, as per the IQair data.

An AQI, which is a report of the quality of air in a region, is considered ‘poor’ between 200 and 300, ‘very poor’ between 301 and 400, severe at 401 and 450, and above 450 is “severe-plus,” which can cause damaging health concerns to residents.

After Diwali, On Friday (Nov 1), Delhi’s AQI was recorded worst globally at 359, followed by Lahore in Pakistan (AQI 217), Beijing in China (AQI 182) and Dhaka in Bangladesh (AQI 174).&nbsp;

To tackle the deteriorating situation in the capital, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said the Atishi government has deployed around 200 mobile anti-smog guns to combat dust pollution.

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Gopal Rai said that the Delhi government is continuously working on the ground to combat the rising pollution levels.

The 200 anti-smog guns, deployed across the national capital, operate in three shifts of eight hours each, spraying water in every assembly constituency to help control dust levels.

"Whether it is dust pollution, vehicle pollution or biomass burning, our teams are continuously working on targeting these three on the ground," Rai said further.

However, stubble burning only accounted for 15 per cent of Delhi’s pollution on Saturday (Nov 2), which is a substantial drop from Friday’s figure of over 35 per cent. This reduction indicates that other factors are significantly influencing Delhi's air quality.

Delhi woke up to the worst air quality of the season so far, with AQI reported at 600 and above in as many areas as Anand Vihar, according to the Aqicn website data. The overall air quality in the national capital stood at 317 on Monday (Nov 4), as of 8:00 am. The pollution level, which is measured in PM 2.5 concentration, is currently 59 times higher in the capital city than the WHO-prescribed danger limit, as per the IQair data. An AQI, which is a report of the quality of air in a region, is considered ‘poor’ between 200 and 300, ‘very poor’ between 301 and 400, severe at 401 and 450, and above 450 is “severe-plus,” which can cause damaging health concerns to residents. A case was lodged in Bihar's Purnia, the MP's constituency, based on the reports shared on social media.&nbsp;

Yadav reportedly received the call from a "Dubai number" and also sent letters to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, asking for enhanced security cover.

The man was identified as Delhi resident Mahesh Pandey.&nbsp;

Police then seized Pandey's mobile phone and SIM card, which was used to make the alleged threat call.&nbsp;

However, after this episode, Yadav's wife and Rajya Sabha Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan distanced herself and her family from his comments.&nbsp;

“Pappu ji and I have different political careers and we have differences between us. For the last one-and-a-half or two years, we have also staying separately. Whatever statement he has made, my children or I have nothing to do with it,” she said.

Jaishankar credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and interest as crucial in driving these diplomatic shifts over the past decade.

The police officers, Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod and Head Constable Shailesh Chauhan, said that they were checking the cars which were passing the busy area near Ber Sarai market.

The car suddenly jumped the red light. When the car was signalled to stop, the vehicle slowed down and then suddenly accelerated.

The police officers fell on the bonnet as the car moved forward and it stopped only after covering 20-odd metres. The police officials were admitted to Safdarjung hospital.

On the basis of the statements of the police officials, a case was registered under sections related to attempt to murder and causing obstruction to a public servant in his duty.&nbsp;

“A PCR call was received at the Kishan Garh police station stating that an unknown vehicle had hit traffic officers on duty and fled the scene," said a police officer.

“The injuries sustained by ASI Pramod and Head Constable Sailesh were reported to be minor. But the intention was to kill them," another police officer added. The investigation into the incident is underway.

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday (Nov. 3) that the recent de-escalation between India and China in eastern Ladakh may pave the way for “other steps” in their relationship.

Speaking to the Indian community in Australia, Jaishankar shared that India and China had achieved some progress in easing tensions in their bilateral ties. Jaishankar is on a five-day visit to Australia, from November 3 to November 7.

“In terms of India and China, we have made some progress. You know, our relations were very, very disturbed for reasons all of you know. We have made some progress in what we call disengagement,” he said. Jaishankar added that India would need to evaluate the course it would take following the disengagement.

“There are very large numbers of Chinese troops deployed along the Line of Actual Control who were not there before 2020 and we, in turn, have counter-deployed. There are other aspects of the relationship which also affected during this period. So clearly, we have to see after the disengagement, what is the direction we go. But we do think the disengagement is a welcome step. It opens up the possibility that you know, other steps could happen,” he added.

Earlier in the week, terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammed group targeted an ambulance in an Indian Army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector. In response, security forces killed three terrorists in a counter-terrorism operation.

The sparks ignited more firecrackers that were kept nearby, causing a blaze. The blaze led to a cylinder explosion in the adjacent house, and all the family members, including the killed children, were trapped. As two fire tenders reached the spot and the children were taken to hospital, doctors at Uluberia Medical College and Hospital declared them dead. According to a report by Indian Express, the West Bengal Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose expressed “deep sorrow” over the incident, saying, “It is tragic. I will visit the area.” The state's Union Minister for Education and Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar demanded a “thorough investigation” into the incident, the report said. Majumdar said, "This incident is heartbreaking amid Diwali festivities. In this situation, I am standing with their bereaved parents and family members. The unusually warm weather across the country could be attributed to two reasons. Western disturbances result in a temporary dip in temperatures when they pass but this did not happen this year, Mohapatra explained.

Above-normal temperatures are likely to remain in several parts of India, the weather department said on Friday.&nbsp;

“We (IMD) do not give any forecast on the onset of winter in the country, and we do not even consider November as winter,” said Mohapatra.

The Northwest and central parts are expected to witness above-normal minimum temperatures during the first half of the month as they received below-normal rainfall this monsoon.

Above-normal maximum temperatures are also likely over northeast and east central India and some regions of northwest and Peninsular India. On the other hand, the weather department predicts below-normal temperatures over west-central and nearby regions of northwest and north peninsular India.

The IMD has predicted above-normal rainfall over South Peninsular India this month.

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson responded sharply on Saturday after Canada’s government under Prime Minister&nbsp;Justin Trudeau described India as a "cyber adversary," heightening the already tense diplomatic standoff between New Delhi and Ottawa.

Canada included this designation in its National Cyber Threat Assessment 2025-26, released by the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security on Tuesday.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed Canada’s new classification of India, grouping it with countries like Russia, China, and North Korea. He described this move as a further "attack" on India.

"This appears to be another example of a Canadian strategy to attack India. As I mentioned earlier, their senior officials have openly confessed that they are seeking to manipulate global opinion against India. As on other occasions, imputations are made without any evidence," Jaiswal stated.&nbsp;

According to news agency Reuters, Canada’s signals intelligence agency, which tracks foreign cyber threats, suggested on Wednesday that India was likely already engaged in cyber activities threatening Canadian networks, allegedly for espionage purposes.

Canada’s Communications Security Establishment (CSE) chief, Caroline Xavier, was quoted in the report, saying, "As Canada and India potentially may have some tensions, it is possible that we may see India want to flex those cyber threat actions against Canadians."

Responding to questions at a press briefing, Jaiswal said, "Yes, some of our consular officials were recently informed by the Canadian government that they have been and continued to be under audio and video surveillance. Their communications have also been intercepted. We have formally protested to the Canadian government, as we deem these actions to be in flagrant violation of relevant diplomatic and consular conventions."

Jaiswal further criticised Canada, saying, "The Canadian government cannot justify the fact that it is indulging in harassment and intimidation."

The two countries' relations have been strained since Canadian PM&nbsp;Trudeau&nbsp;last year&nbsp;alleged that Indian agents might have been involved in the killing of Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India slams Canada for branding it a 'cyber threat' alongside Russia and China

Two persons were killed and one injured near Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district on Saturday (Nov 2)&nbsp;by three elephants which are believed to be part of the herd that was hit by 10 jumbo deaths earlier this week, officials said.

Officials said Ramratan Yadav (50) was killed in Devra village, some 10 kilometres away from BTR, when he went to answer nature's call.

After this, the three elephants killed Bhairav Kol (35) in Brahe village in the buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and then injured Malu Sahu (32) in Banka just outside the reserve, the officials informed.

Officials said the three elephants that went on a rampage this morning may be part of the 13-strong herd that has seen 10 deaths, a case that has made national headlines.

On October 29, four wild elephants were found dead in Sankhani and Bakeli under Khitoli range of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR), while four died on October 30 and two on October 31. The elephants may have died after consuming some toxic substance, as per officials.

When asked if the three elephants are part of the ill-fated herd, Umaria divisional forest officer Vivek Singh told PTI the pachyderms were being tracked and any finality about their identity would come after collection of data from the monitoring process.

Meanwhile, sources said one of the tuskers from the herd had arrived at the spot where the 10 deceased jumbos were being buried, apparently to mourn, which it did through trumpeting, stomping of feet and vigorous ear-flapping.

The sources said forest department personnel and others who had gathered at the spot during the time were left "shaken" due to the behaviour of this pachyderm.

An official, on condition of anonymity, said pachyderms can be vengeful and added the three surviving elephants from the herd were wandering in a radius of 15 kilometres from the site where the 10 died.

As per officials, the post-mortem reports of the 10 elephants have highlighted toxicity along with huge quantities of kodo millets in their stomachs.

On Friday, a top forest department official said samples collected from the field as well as organic, like viscera, liver, kidney etc were being sent to ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Izatnagar in UP's Bareli as well as the MP forensic laboratory in Sagar to ascertain more details about the deaths.

Apart from this, the National Tiger Conservation Authority and MP's state tiger strike force are also probing the deaths.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has asked the minister of state for forests Dileep Ahirwar, additional chief secretary (forest) Ashok Barnwal and the state's head of forest force (HOFF) Aseem Shrivastava to visit Umaria district ad submit a report on the elephant deaths.

The BTR is spread across Umaria and Katni districts in eastern Madhya Pradesh.

A terrorist was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Srinagar's Khanyar area of the Indian Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir, local security officials said on Saturday (Nov 2).&nbsp;

Earlier, four security personnel, two from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and two from Jammu and Kashmir Police's SOG (Special Operations Group), were injured in the gunfight.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi said that the terrorist has been identified as Usman and was the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

IGP Birdi said that the killed terrorist was involved in the murder of Inspector Masroor in 2023.

"A cordon and search operation in the Khanyar area of district Srinagar has resulted in an exchange of fire. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police posted on X.

IGP Birdi told news agency ANI, "Now this operation has been completed. Security forces have killed a terrorist, who has been identified as Usman..., he was the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and 4 security personnel have been injured. He is a foreign terrorist and his role and involvement in the murder of Inspector Masroor has come to light and further investigation is being done in this regard...."

The encounter broke out after security forces initiated an anti-terrorist operation in the Halkan Gali area.

"Based on specific input, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Srinagar Sector CRPF in gen area Halkan Gali, Anantnag. On 02 Nov 2024, suspicious movement near Halkan Gali was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, as a result, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on their own column.
