Three people have been arrested for gang-raping a woman suffering from mental illness, in Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan last month, the police said on Thursday (Nov 7).&nbsp;

The woman, from the Indian state of&nbsp;Odisha who shifted to New Delhi months ago, was kidnapped and gang raped in October.&nbsp;

The 34-year-old woman&nbsp;is currently receiving psychiatric treatment at AIMS, Delhi, after the alleged gang rape that happened on October 10.&nbsp;

Three accused have been identified as Prabhu Mahto, Parmod Babu and Mohammad Shamsul, news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;

Delhi police said that on the night of October 10 and 11, a naval officer found a young woman soaked in blood on the roadside in the Sarai Kale Khan area. The officer then admitted the young woman to the AIIMS Trauma Centre and informed the police.&nbsp;

After the medical reports came, it became clear that the woman had been raped.&nbsp;

The police said that she&nbsp;came to New Delhi on May 9 without informing her family, after which her family filed a missing person’s report in Puri.&nbsp;

The woman holds a postgraduate degree in social work from Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneshwar and has worked as a researcher.

IPS DCP-South East Ravi Kumar Singh said, "On October 11, at approximately 03:15 am, a PCR call was received at Police Station Sunlight Colony. The caller reported the presence of a girl in Sarai Kale Khan's area. The girl was described as wearing a red kurta, bleeding and the caller expressed concern that the girl might have been injured or subjected to wrongful assault. The police staff immediately reached at the spot where the victim was found in a distressed state and promptly transported her to AIIMS Trauma Centre for medical examination. The victim disclosed to the attending doctor that she had been sexually assaulted by three unknown persons. The victim was found to be unfit for statement.”

As the investigation continued, 10 police teams were probing to apprehend the accused. Following this, they nabbed three accused persons after an over 20-day relentless search.

"After sustained efforts, the auto-rickshaw of the accused person was correctly identified and the driver on the night of October 10 as Prabhu Mahto. Thereafter, sustained efforts were made to track the accused and he was arrested on October 30. Subsequently, the other accused persons Pramod Babu and Mohammad Shamsul @ Raju were also identified and arrested in the present case on November 2 and November 4," Singh added.

Accused Parmod Babu, who is an alcohol addict, said that he closed his shop as per his usual routine and had alcohol.&nbsp;

"He noticed a girl sitting nearby. Shortly after, another accused Mohammad Shamshul, a beggar, alcohol addict and physically handicapped arrived at the scene. Both accused persons conspired to sexually assault the girl, assuming she was mentally unsound and an easy target. Together they forcibly dragged the girl to a deserted area to commit the crime. An auto driver-accused Prabhu Mahto witnessed the incident and joined them with the intent of getting involved in the crime. Subsequently, accused Prabhu Mahto forced the girl in his auto and raped her. Thereafter the accused dumped the victim towards Sarai Kale Khan and drove away," Singh said, according to ANI.&nbsp;

One of India’s top global tourist hotspots is dying a slow death, prompting netizens to share shocking stories of their own experience visiting the now ill-fated region. The Indian state here in question is Goa, also known as "the pearl of the east”, known for its Gothic churches, age-old ruins, palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, ferry rides, and bubbly folk music. But the state is getting attention on Indian internet for all the wrong reasons for quite some time now.

According to data shared by Goa’s tourism department, only 450,000 foreign tourists visited Goa in 2023, a whopping drop from 937,000 annually in 2019 or the pre-Covid era. The report, however, mentioned that domestic tourism in&nbsp;the state was picking up. Over 7 million domestic tourists visited Goa in 2022, almost equalling the pre-Covid figure of 7.08 million in 2018.

Reacting to the shocking figures, several X users highlighted on social media how ‘Goa taxi mafia’ was responsible for the decline of the tourism industry in the state.

“Goa is doomed all thanks to the alliance of local taxi mafia and administration,” wrote one X user.

It must be noted that ride-hailing services like Uber and Ola are banned in the state in the face of vehement opposition from local taxi unions. Ola, India’s own version of Uber, was launched in 2014, but was banned in Goa following massive strikes by the local taxi unions.

Another X user recounted his experience when ‘more than 10 taxi drivers ganged up against him’. “Goa’s taxi mafia is responsible for it,” he wrote, claiming that a German woman was forced to pay ₹1,800 ($21) to a taxi driver for a 37 km ride.

“I went to pick up a friend (from Germany) from Benaulim Beach and I was accompanied by another friend (a local Goan). A taxi guy (in Benaulim) saw us, he stopped us and in no time there were 10+ taxi drivers ready to beat us up,” he recalled.

That is because the soon-to-be Second lady of the US, Usha Vance, wife of US Vice President-elect JD Vance, hails from a&nbsp;small village in Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;

Usha Chilukuri Vance, 38, was born and brought up in suburban San Diego. She is the daughter of Indian immigrants, and her paternal ancestors live in Vadluru, a village in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;

Before the election, the villagers offered prayers for Trump’s victory, and Hindu priest Appaji hoped Usha Vance would do something in return.

According to reports, the Noida Police started a chase after spotting a notorious robber on Wednesday night. The chase ended in an encounter, and the police team recovered a stolen motorcycle, a pistol, five looted mobile phones, and ammunition from the accused.

The incident occurred around midnight when police was on their routine security check under the directives of the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissioner. Police officers stationed near Rabbit Park in Sector 58 spotted a suspicious individual approaching on a motorcycle.

The suspect, who has been identified as Sonu, aka Mota, tried to flee when the police signalled him to stop. The officers then began chasing the man, soon after which the accused opened fire on them. This prompted a retaliatory response from the police.

Mota was injured in the exchange and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.&nbsp;

It was later confirmed by the authorities that the suspect, who is only 22 years old, was identified as a wanted criminal involved in several robbery and theft cases in&nbsp;the area.

Police recovered a stolen bike, five mobile phones, a pistol, and several cartridges from Mota's possession. The weapon and all the mobile phones are believed to have been looted in earlier robberies.

“We were conducting routine checking when we noticed a suspicious biker near Rabbit Park,” said Manish Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Noida.&nbsp;

“This is a significant breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the area,” ADCP Mishra added.

“Sonu alias Mota is a notorious robber with a history of criminal offences. We are conducting further investigations to identify his associates and track down any other stolen property.”

The solar corona (the outermost part of the sun's atmosphere) has many mysteries associated with it. The solar corona is a million degrees warmer than the surface of the sun, and it is the origin of coronal mass ejections (highly charged particles), which can affect the functioning of satellites or communication and power networks back on earth. There is immense scientific interest in better understanding the solar corona and related phenomena. A Coronagraph is a device that can artificially block out the bright light of the sun, thereby enhancing the visibility of the faint corona. A solar eclipse, when the moon blocks out the sun, is a great natural opportunity to study the solar corona. But eclipses are rare and occur only for a few minutes. The two Proba-3 satellites will be precisely aligned so that the Occulter spacecraft casts a shadow across the Coronagraph spacecraft, thereby enabling the visibility of the faint solar corona. If the two are not perfectly aligned, then the bright disc of the Sun will not be hidden from the instrument, and the corona will be obscured by its bright light. Why is Proba-3 being launched from India? India's PSLV-XL launcher was chosen to ferry Proba-3 satellites to space, as the European Space Agency (ESA) does not possess a medium-lift rocket that can launch the 550 kg Proba-3 satellites into the desired orbit. The mass of the satellites is above the capability of ESA's Vega-C small rocket, while the large Ariane-6 rocket would be too costly for a mission of this kind. PSLV offers the perfect balance in terms of lift capability and cost. ESA will be paying around € 30 million (approx Rs. 271 crore) to avail the launch services from ISRO's commercial arm NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).

The man, identified as Sabarish, was under alcohol's influence when he decided to accept the challenge given to him by his friends.&nbsp;

According to media reports, the man and his friends had come out for drinks when they decided to burst some firecrackers to mark the festival of Diwali.

In a big relief to madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, the Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the constitutional validity of the 2004 Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Law and set aside an Allahabad High Court verdict quashing it on the ground that it was violative of the principle of secularism.

Besides the curriculum of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), the Madarsa Act made room for religious education as well.

The Allahabad High Court erred in holding that the law is violative of the principle of secularism, said a bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

Security forces have gunned down a suspected terrorist in an ongoing encounter in the Ketson forest region of north Kashmir’s Bandipora on Tuesday (Nov. 5). He was arrested a day after the body of a junior doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital.&nbsp;

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been summoned by the Lokayukta police to appear before it on Wednesday (Nov 6) for questioning in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case.

Earlier, the Lokayukta police questioned Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi BM in connection with the case.&nbsp;

This comes after a court declared that the governor was within his rights to allow the questioning of the CM by the Lokayukta.

The fighter jet, piloted by Wing Commander Manish Mishra, was conducting a routine training flight when the malfunction occurred and the jet crashed in Sonika village, within the Kagraul police limits of Agra district, around 4:20 pm (IST).

According to the defence officials, the plane was on its way to Agra when the incident happened.&nbsp;

Devesh Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sainya), Agra, said, "The pilot and co-pilot have been rescued and admitted to the district hospital", adding that he is at the site of the accident and a rescue operation is currently underway at the spot.

Meanwhile, Kagarol Station House Officer said, "There was a huge fire after the crash and we are trying to douse the fire."&nbsp;
