Arrest Mehul Choksi, no need for Red Corner Notice: CBI to Antiguan government

India's investigating agency the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has asked the Antiguan government to arrest Mehul Choksi accused in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank(PNB) case.

The Indian government has already submitted the extradition request for Mehul Choksi to the Antigua & Barbuda foreign ministry.
The CBI said the Red Corner Notice(RCN) issued by the Interpol is not necessary as its a custodial matter with the location of the accused already verified by authorities.
The CBI has sent a letter to the Antigua government through Ministry of External Affairs(MEA). The CBI had earlier requested the Interpol to issue an RCN for Choksi when it wastrying to ascertain his whereabouts.
Choksi had reportedly taken Antiguan citizenship last year and moved to the Caribbean country in July this year after leaving India.Mehul Choksi had said in a statement that he had moved to Antigua and Barbuda under the Citizenship by Investment program.

Choksi who owns Gitanjali Gems is under investigation for his role in the PNB scam along with his nephew Nirav Modi. The CBI had earlier arrested the vice-president of Gitanjali group Vipul Chitalia.
PNB had said the two jewellery groups headed by Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi had defrauded it of about $2.2 billion by raising credit from overseas branches of other Indian banks using illegal guarantees issued by rogue PNB staff at a Mumbai branch over several years.
