According to a study, experts have shown how minutes of mindful breathing exercises can physically lower blood pressure as effectively as medication. The idea is that deep breathing is like muscle training for ones’ diaphragm and other muscles involved in breathing which promotes heart health and effectively reduces high blood pressure.

The experiment was conducted by researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Arizona, in the United States. The study looked at 128 volunteers, healthy adults between the age of 18 to 82 for the span of six weeks.

The participants were given a $32 PowerBreath device for 5 to 10 minutes each day. PowerBreathe is a resistance-breathing training device which looks like an inhaler. When people breathe into the handheld device it provides resistance making it harder to inhale. According to the study, within two weeks people started to see improvement with very few side effects.

“We found that doing 30 breaths per day for six weeks lowers systolic blood pressure by about 9 millimeters of mercury,” researcher Daniel Craighead, an integrative physiologist at the University of Colorado Boulder, told NPR. He also went on to explain how these readings are close to what they would expect from common aerobic exercises like walking, running or cycling.

This reading was also on par with many commonly prescribed medications given to patients to lower blood pressure, suggests previous studies. Meanwhile, the older volunteers for this study who had high blood pressure benefitted and saw the most notable results, while it also helped younger volunteers.

According to Craighead, they expect that the longer the participants would practice their blood pressure would lower further. He added that people who have unhealthy levels of blood pressure can benefit from this by adding to their routine.

While the normal blood pressure reading is less than or about 120/80 mmHg, high blood pressure or hypertension is diagnosed in patients with an average reading of 130/80 mmHg or higher, said the CDC. As the study noted, the volunteers’ blood pressure lowered by at least 9 millimetres of mercury in the first number, which is the kind of reduction that is seen with blood pressure medication, said a physician to NPR.

High blood pressure and hypertension can lead to serious health problems like heart attacks and strokes if left untreated. People who smoke, do not exercise or maintain a healthy diet or are under chronic stress are especially vulnerable and at risk of experiencing high blood pressure.

However, Craighead has warned that this technique is not to replace exercise or medication for people who have high blood pressure; it would be a “good additive intervention” for people who lead a healthy lifestyle.

Multivitamin gummies can enhance your wellness if you already live a healthy lifestyle. Gummies act as a perfect tool to better your skin, hair, and nails and make them shine and glow. As we know, vitamins are crucial for the regulation of better health.

They help keep our body and face fit and flourishing. Vitamin C is the highest priority for skin, vitamin A is beneficial for the eyes, and vitamin D is essential for bones and teeth. Now, when all these vitamins are instilled into one gummy, the usefulness of the same is, without any doubt, very successful. Two gummies a day is sufficient for adults to achieve the desired results.

Gummies are especially beneficial for healthy and shiny hair. As a side effect of COVID-19, most people have experienced hair loss problems. Along with a balanced diet, one can take care of their hair through gummies. It is the perfect solution for hair growth due to its healthy ingredients, erasing the post-pandemic hair struggle and worries.

With a busy lifestyle, multivitamin gummies help reduce the stress of keeping up with one’s appearances. They work efficiently and help reduce the risks of diseases, from skin to heart diseases. In recent times, gummies have started catching attention and are becoming popular. As people gradually come to know more about gummies and gaining more insight, the more they’re preferred and well-liked. It has become a well-known phenomenon, and these gummies are incorporated into wellness care.

However, it’s not only for adults but for kids as well. Gummies were initially invented for kids, but now due to their health benefits, they are being used by both children and adults. Gummies are replacing pills and capsules, and along with being practical, they also taste nice, which is the main reason for their popularity and for being preferred over pills and capsules.

They usually come in different tastes, shapes, sizes, and colours. As opposed to tablets, gummies are very quickly chewable. This is an essential factor for kids as they enjoy gummies and get great health benefits, which is crucial for their healthy growth.

Gummies cannot wholly replace healthy food and a balanced, vitamin-rich diet. However, they still play an essential role in health for a fast and time-consuming lifestyle. Pollution, dust, and many other factors can be harsh on skin and hair. Post pandemic, travelling has become frequent again, and with that, the wrong environment is causing harm to people’s skin, hair, and health.

Skincare and hair care routines can help and are beneficial; however, when one is short on time, the gummies can play a significant role in offering fast and effective results. Gummies are also free from harsh chemicals, which prevents the body from significant side effects. General Physician Dr Sanajan Jain says, “A tasty combination of vitamins C, D, and E with aloe vera extract packed in a gummy for healthy looking hair, nails, and skin helps in collagen production and preventing free radical and environmental damage to the skin, hair, and nails.”

With this, it’s clear that gummies help prevent hair and skin damage and its significant benefit is that the damage is stopped due to natural ingredients in gummies such as aloe vera, which is known to work wonders for the skin, and multivitamins, which help the skin glow and for hair to shine brighter.

Apart from preventing damage to skin and hair, gummies also work well for the eyes. Previous two years, being cooped inside houses and forced to be in front of the screen, people started experiencing problems with their eyesight. Today, post-pandemic screen time for people hasn’t lessened much, and the possible harm to one’s eyesight still persists.

You can use gummies to improve your eyesight as well as some gummies also consist vitamin A, a saviour for eyes and vision. Thus, popping gummies is a mediator for one’s body and health. Many famous companies such as Bodywise, Setu, and Man Matters are known for their incredible gummies and are commonly chosen today by the masses.

The most significant advantage of Gummies is that they have high storage stability. Unlike skincare or hair care products that have a limited shelf life and also eatables that have an even lesser shelf life, multi vitamin gummies, on the other hand, can be stored for a longer period of time. Just ensure you don't let water enter the bottle.

This is another reason why the business of gummies is flourishing today, and most people are opting for it. One can also carry gummies with themselves effortlessly.
Consumption of gummies for adults should be no more than two per day. Excessive intake can do more harm than good. One should be aware that gummies are used as a tool for wellness, and they shouldn't be used as an alternative to healthy meals.
In conclusion, with how the world is moving forward, gummies are guaranteed to have a higher demand in the future.
On Friday, France’s government announced its plan of imposing a minimum delivery fee of 3 euros on online book orders which are less than 35 euros. This comes months after the legislation was passed in December last year to close the ‘one-cent’ loophole, though a minimum shipping fee which was not decided until recently.

The ‘one-cent’ loophole was reportedly used by online retailers like Amazon and Franc which charged a token of 0.01 euro or 1 cent per delivery, as a French law passed in 2014 prohibited them from delivering books for free. On the other hand, local bookstores charge up to 7 euros for shipping the books, therefore, this move is expected to protect the independent bookstores in the country struggling to compete in the market.

The French ministers have called this phenomenon “distorted competition”. A joint statement by the cultural and finance ministries said, “This will adapt the book industry to the digital era by restoring an equilibrium between large e-commerce platforms, which offer virtually free delivery for books whatever the order size, and bookstores that cannot match these delivery prices.”
In a statement, on Friday, The French Independent Booksellers Association or Syndicat de la Librairie Française (SLF) said that the 3 euro fee was not enough and they will still be selling at a loss sending the books to customers. Therefore, they called the government to lower the post office fees for the shipment of books. (With inputs from agencies)

Every year, Hindus mark the end of a 14 days lunar period in the Hindu calendar (known as Pitri Paksha in Sanskrit) with Mahalaya. It is a day to remember one's ancestors and offer food to birds and animals in honour of one's forefathers.

For Bengalis, this day marks the beginning of week-long festivities- popularly known as Durga Puja which overlaps with Navrati, another Hindu festival celebrating the goddess.

On Mahalaya every year, Indian Bengalis wake up in the wee hours of the morning to listen to the legendary radio broadcaster and playwright, the late Birendra Krishna Bhadra's recitation of the Mahisasuramardini. The audio-play which has over the years been adapted in Hindi for pan-India audiences and included in numerous teleplays has become part of a tradition of the Bengali community.

Now available on Youtube, it is almost ceremonial to play Bhadra's audio-musical in the early hours of the morning on Mahalaya. No matter which part of the world one is in, Bengalis are known to tune in to Bhadra's voice and recitation of the Sanskrit shlokas which herald Durga Puja festivities days later.

While it has become a tradition for all Bengalis to mark Mahalaya with Bhadra's voice, it interestingly has its roots in modern-day technology.

It is actually a radio-induced culture - introduced in 1931 as a programme to give devout Hindus company as they made their way to the banks of River Ganga to perform rituals before sunrise. These rituals, known as 'Tarpan', were performed in honour of one's forefathers.

History of Mahisasuramardini- the play

In 1931, Mahalaya the programme was the first broadcast in Akashvani, Calcutta. The programme was organised by Pankaj Kumar Mallik, Premankur Aatorthi, Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Nripendra Krishna Mukhopadhyay and Raichand Boral- considered stalwarts of AIR, Calcutta.

In the initial years, as the radio play gained popularity, the one hour 30 minutes would typically be performed live at the radio station in Calcutta led by Bhadra's recitation. Some of the most prominent singers of Bengal including Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, Pratima Bandopadhyay, Shyamal Mitra, and Hemant Mukherjee have been part of the audio-musical over the years.

The controversy

Bhadra was briefly replaced in 1976 by the voice of prominent Bengali film actor Uttam Kumar and the programme was renamed 'Durga Durgatiharini' but did not get a favourable response from the listeners as they wanted Bhadra's voice for the occasion. Akashvani eventually brought in the original version recited by Bhadra the next year, and it continues to play every year.

Funnily, while most have grown up listening to Bhadra's recitation believing it to be a part of the tradition, it was in fact a modern-day radio-induced tradition that Bengalis made their own. Mahalaya and Bhadra's voices are synonymous with Durga Puja celebrations. The celebrations seem incomplete without listening to Bhadra's booming voice reciting Sanskrit shlokas.

His recitation has been used massively in pop culture in the last 90 years. Bhadra's voice, the classic audio programme is as integral to the festivities as the days of Durga Puja itself.

With the onset of TV, teleplays enacting the story of how Goddess Durga took charge and killed Mahisasura, the devil king, are played on various channels. Each has its own version of the folklore, but the climax, where the actual battle between the goddess and the demon takes place always has Bhadra's recitation playing in the background, no matter which channel you are tuned into.

In the last 90 years, Bhadra has become an important part of Bengali culture. What started as an invocation of the goddess as a means to keep sleepy devotees awake in the early hours of dawn, has over the years become a culture in itself that no Bengali is ready to let go of.

World Alzheimer's Day: Expert tells WION how to take care of Alzheimer's patient at home

French President Emmanuel Macron's choice of footwear while in London ahead of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral has caused some sort of flutter on social media sites. Many on Twitter in particular have accused Macron of donning sneakers while paying his respects to the departed monarch of the United Kingdom. Photos of him and his wife Brigitte Macron wearing blue trainers have surfaced online, leading to a variety of reactions. While some said Macron's choice of footwear was disrespectful, others were not bothered and said it is up to him what he wishes to wear. As per the France-based news agency Agence France-Presse, far-right politicians and other critics of the president in the country expressed umbrage at Macron and fanned the flames of outrage.

However, it later emerged that the photos were not from the funeral at all. Pictures of Macron and his wife at Westminster Abbey as they paid respects to the Queen proved that they had changed to formal wear.

'Disrespectful' Emmanuel Macron accused of wearing sneakers at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Here's the truth

The ceremonial processions taking Queen Elizabeth II's coffin to London's Westminster Abbey and then towards her burial place at Windsor reflect the ancient traditions of the British monarchy. LIVE | Queen's lying-in-state ends ahead of Westminster Abbey service

Royal Navy sailors will use ropes to pull the queen's lead-lined coffin mounted on a gun carriage from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. Their comrades in a team of 142 sailors will walk alongside to act as a brake if necessary.

This tradition dates back to Queen Victoria's funeral in February 1901.

The horses meant to haul the gun carriage weighing more than two tons panicked and began kicking, threatening to drop the coffin.

One of the queen's relatives, Prince Louis of Battenberg, a Royal Navy captain, suggested to the new king, Edward VII, that this problem could be avoided by replacing horses with sailors.

Nine years later when Edward VII himself died, this idea was put into practice again and it has since become an unchanging tradition at state funerals.

Eight soldiers from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards will have the task of carrying the queen's coffin from Westminster Hall to the gun carriage outside, and then into Westminster Abbey.

One of the most ancient in the British army, the regiment is among five infantry regiments that make up the Queen's (now King's) Life Guard.

The regiment's soldiers normally wear tall bearskin hats, a uniform they copied from the grenadiers of Napoleon's Imperial Guard, defeated at Waterloo in 1815.

The soldiers will be accompanied by Service Equerries to the Queen, attendants who assist the royals in carrying out public duties.

- Guard of Honour -

Three regiments will play a particularly important role in the procession, marching very close to the queen's coffin.

The Yeomen of the Guard, the oldest military unit in the British Army created in 1485, and the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms are two former bodyguard units for the royals that now perform only a ceremonial role.

The Yeomen of the Guard always wear a red-and-gold uniform dating back to the Tudor era (16th century).

One of their best-known activities is searching the Palace of Westminster for gunpowder before the State Opening of Parliament.

This annual ritual commemorates the Gunpowder Plot, a failed attempt led by Guy Fawkes to blow up King James I and parliament in 1605.

They will be followed by members of the Royal Company of Archers, who acted as bodyguards for Elizabeth II whenever she was in Scotland.

Some detachments from other regiments in Britain and from the armed forces of the Commonwealth, a group of countries headed by the British monarch, will rejoin the funeral procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner near Buckingham Palace.

- Elizabeth II's royal house -

While members of the royal family led by the new King Charles III will follow the casket, following them will be members of the queen's royal household, including the most senior officer of the royal household, the lord chamberlain.

In front of them will come the pipers and drummers of the Scottish and Irish regiments, and the Brigade of Gurkhas made up of soldiers from Nepal who are part of the armed forces. There will also be 200 Royal Air Force musicians.

- 6,000 troops -

Around 6,000 soldiers, sailors and air crew from the British armed forces will take part in the procession, Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Tony Radakin told the BBC on Sunday.

At several points along the route they will perform a royal salute, for example when they pass the Victoria Memorial commemorating the queen.

"For all of us, this is our last duty for Her Majesty the Queen and it's our first prominent duty for His Majesty King Charles," he said.

Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral: Complete schedule including order of service The horses meant to haul the gun carriage weighing more than two tons panicked and began kicking, threatening to drop the coffin. - Pallbearers in bearskins - Prince George and Princess Charlotte to attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral Eight soldiers from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards will have the task of carrying the queen's coffin from Westminster Hall to the gun carriage outside, and then into Westminster Abbey. - Guard of Honour - Three regiments will play a particularly important role in the procession, marching very close to the queen's coffin. - Elizabeth II's royal house - While members of the royal family led by the new King Charles III will follow the casket, following them will be members of the queen's royal household, including the most senior officer of the royal household, the lord chamberlain. In front of them will come the pipers and drummers of the Scottish and Irish regiments, and the Brigade of Gurkhas made up of soldiers from Nepal who are part of the armed forces. There will also be 200 Royal Air Force musicians. - 6,000 troops - Around 6,000 soldiers, sailors and air crew from the British armed forces will take part in the procession, Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Tony Radakin told the BBC on Sunday. At several points along the route they will perform a royal salute, for example when they pass the Victoria Memorial commemorating the queen. "For all of us, this is our last duty for Her Majesty the Queen and it's our first prominent duty for His Majesty King Charles," he said.

Queen Elizabeth II funeral: Five things to know about the queen's coffin procession

A new study on the effects of drinking several cups of tea per day has found that the practice has numerous health benefits ranging from lowering the risk of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease to overall mortality.

The study will be presented next week at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. According to the researchers, the study involved more than one million adult participants across eight countries.

The result of the study indicated that drinking just one to three cups of your favourite tea beverage lowered the risk of type 2 diabetes by four per cent. Meanwhile, it also reduced the risk of developing diabetes by one per cent for every extra cuppa.

"Our results are exciting because they suggest that people can do something as simple as drinking four cups of tea a day to potentially lessen their risk of developing type 2 diabetes," said a researcher related to the study.

Star couple Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady are reportedly living separately A source told CNN that the two have been dealing with marital issues. While Bündchen is a Brazilian fashion model, Brady is a legendary American football quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion who currently plays for Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady, who is regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time, had announced retirement from NFL in February this year, but he later walked back on that decision. As per CNN, he had taken a leave of absence of 11 days from training camp in August to deal with "personal things" as per head coach Todd Bowles. She had said, "This is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present. I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too."
