<p>Burnout is no longer just a buzzword. It has become an epidemic and a serious global crisis, with recent statistics showing concerning trends and patterns. According to a report by WHO, more than 70 per cent of employees globally experience some kind of burnout, be it emotional, physical, or mental exhaustion caused by work stress. </p></p>
<p>Cases like EY's former employee Anne Sebastian shed light on the toll this crisis is taking. Sadly, she is not the only one, but many people feel trapped in the 24*7, constantly demanding, always-on work culture. </p>
<h2><b>What really is burnout? Let's understand</b></h2>
<p>In layman's language, burnout is a condition of ongoing mental and physical tiredness that is brought on by prolonged stress. For example, imagine you are juggling multiple balls—family obligations, personal relationships, balancing jobs and personal wants, etc.—and you suddenly drop one. You feel you can no longer keep up, you are too exhausted to continue or even try to pick up that one ball. You feel so drained and disconnected, even the simplest tasks like reverting to an email feel like a tough job. You feel overwhelmed and lack motivation.</p>
<p>Another reference to this is striking a balance between personal and personal life. In today’s digital, always-on-phone work culture, the line between work and personal time is merely visible. Messages pinging during vacations, family outings or dinners, and conference calls extend into the weekends leaving many people frustrated and overwhelmed. “A lack of boundaries between work and personal life is one of the biggest drivers of burnout in the modern workplace,” says Dr. Carol Bernstein, a psychiatrist at NYU School of Medicine.</p>

<h2><b>Why is work-life balance no longer a luxury but a necessity?</b></h2>
<p>Employees and workers, especially the millennials, are stuck in a harsh and unforgiving cycle. They want to succeed in their careers, achieve professional success, live fulfilling personal lives, and preserve their mental and physical health by hook or by crook.</p>
<p>However, these contradictory demands are too much to handle. Unlike millennials, Gen Z values particularly healthy work-life balance more than the previous generations. Gen Z, in particular, is pushing for a change in the way flexibility and efficiency are valued more. However, a lot of people are still struggling to strike that balance and frequently feel guilty about putting their time ahead of their job obligations. According to stress management psychologist Dr. Ellen Hendriksen, "learning to say no without feeling guilty is a powerful tool in preventing burnout."</p>
<h2><b>Preventing burnout before it’s too late</b></h2>
<p>Initially, the warning signs of burnout can be subtle but eventually become more apparent over time. Common signs include irritability, insomnia, difficulty in concentration and focus, feeling emotionally drained, stomach issues, and aggressive behaviour. When individuals fail to recognise these signs, in the longer time it often leads to long-term physical and mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and cardiovascular problems. According to Dr. Bernstein, "One of the main causes of burnout is a lack of boundaries between work and personal life."</p>
<p>But meeting deadlines or delivering outcomes makes it difficult to disconnect.</p>
<p>However, prioritising self-care and taking out personal time are essential first steps toward prevention.</p>

<h2><b>Micro-breaks can make a big impact</b></h2>
<p>Setting boundaries is often challenging. But, setting aside time for micro-breaks even for a few minutes, can help reduce stress levels because it resets the brain and refreshes the mind and body. Dr. Claudia W. Allen, a clinical psychologist, says, “Taking micro-breaks, even for five minutes, can help reset your brain.” It will improve mood, productivity, working environment, outcomes, and overall mental well-being.</p>
<p>Be it taking a short walk, chitchatting with co-workers around, or doing breathing exercises, these small changes make a big impact.</p>
<h2><b>Global perspective:</b></h2>
<p>Different countries use different approaches and techniques to improve the mental health of their employees.</p>
<p>Sweden, for example, introduced a four-day workweek trial in 2024, with employees reporting higher productivity and significantly lower stress levels.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, in Japan, companies are encouraging workers to take regular vacations, even implementing “no work” holidays to combat burnout.</p>
<p>These initiatives taken globally across the world demonstrate that it’s possible to change work norms and re-create working environments that promote well-being both physically and mentally. It’s not just about working less, it’s about working smarter and with intention and taking care of yourself</p>
<p>Mental health issues can be prevented if measures are taken to guard personal boundaries and health.</p>
<p>As we look ahead to 2025, Let's vow to make it clear: work and life balance is not just a luxury or an aesthetic, but a necessity, an essential and a healthy way of living life that includes no compromise</p>
<p>Before entering the year 2025, let's commit to putting ourselves first no matter what. Set stricter boundaries, take short breaks, and remember: the most important thing you can do for your career and life is to take care of your own self and your health. Let's reclaim our time and our well-being in 2025 and beyond. </p>

<p>The year 2024&nbsp;redefined&nbsp;workplace yet again. With work-from-office mandates and rising living and commuting costs, working is not the same as it was a year ago.</p>

<p>The atmosphere in many workplaces was one of the unsaid battles—between senior workers who might have never worked remotely and a growing number of young people who not only started their careers during the pandemic but also completed their education online.</p>

<p>Read to find out what’s changed!</p>

<h2><strong>Workplaces are becoming younger</strong></h2>

<p>The worker population across the globe is becoming younger with many companies accepting people without the need for a formal degree and focusing more on skills instead. This has created a new generation of workers who have started working earlier than ever before. The US Bureau of Labour Statistics says that Gen Z (those born after 1996) will make up almost 30% of the workforce in the country by 2030, highlighting the growing influence of this age group.</p>

<h2><strong>Change in professional language</strong></h2>

<p>2024 saw a change in the language used in workplaces. An X(formerly Twitter) post went viral which showed an employee ‘informing’ and not ‘requesting’ for leave from their boss with just a one-line message saying: “I will be on leave on 8th Nov 2024. Bye.”</p>

<p>The post which now has 2.8 M views sparked a furious debate on social media with some slamming the employee for being unprofessional. Others supported them in setting clear workplace boundaries.</p>

<p>Memes went galore about senior workers being baffled by their younger colleagues using ‘cool,’ ‘byeeeee’ and other such ‘slangs’ in professional emails.</p>

<p>GenZ workers constantly referred to their ‘boomer bosses’ as not being ‘chill.’</p>

<h2><strong>Fall of remote work</strong></h2>

<p>Work post the pandemic, has changed since companies and workers have realised that remote work has both pros and cons.</p>

<p>Remote work allows the cutting down of commuting costs and time for employees, leading to higher productivity and employee satisfaction.</p>

<p>However, there were also cases of remote workers being let go due to not working enough, and often at all.</p>

<p>In Aug 2024, an Australian employee with 18 years of experience lost her job after her company- Insurance Australia Group, tracked her work over three months and found that she did not have enough keyboard activity and often started work late and logged off early.</p>

<p>The incident went viral with many employers blaming remote employees for working less than their in-office colleagues.</p>

<h2><strong>Anna Sebastian, Narayana Murthy &amp; Mental Health</strong></h2>

<p>In July 2024, Anna Sebastian, a 26-year-old employee of Ernst and Young, took her own life reportedly due to work pressure. Sebastian’s mother also penned a heartfelt letter to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani highlighting how her child was burdened under unrealistic work pressures.</p>

<p>The letter ends with: “I hope my child’s experience leads to real change so that no other family has to endure the grief and trauma that we are going through. My Anna is no longer with us but her story can make a difference.”</p>

<p>It prompted widespread condemnation of ‘hustle culture’ and the myriad ways in which work affects the mental health of employees.</p>

<p>Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys and one of India’s foremost businesspersons reiterated his stance about work, sparking a new wave of support and fury.</p>

<p>In November, he expressed his disappointment over India switching to a five-day work week from a six-day one and called for a 70-hour work week to become the norm once again.</p>

The year 2024 redefined workplace yet again. With work-from-office mandates and rising living and commuting costs, working is not the same as it was a year ago. The atmosphere in many workplaces was one of the unsaid battles—between senior workers who might have never worked remotely and a growing number of young people who not only started their careers during the pandemic but also completed their education online.

Read to find out what’s changed! Workplaces are becoming younger The worker population across the globe is becoming younger with many companies accepting people without the need for a formal degree and focusing more on skills instead. This has created a new generation of workers who have started working earlier than ever before. The US Bureau of Labour Statistics says that Gen Z (those born after 1996) will make up almost 30% of the workforce in the country by 2030, highlighting the growing influence of this age group. Change in professional language 2024 saw a change in the language used in workplaces. An X(formerly Twitter) post went viral which showed an employee ‘informing’ and not ‘requesting’ for leave from their boss with just a one-line message saying: “I will be on leave on 8th Nov 2024. Bye.” The post which now has 2.8 M views sparked a furious debate on social media with some slamming the employee for being unprofessional. Others supported them in setting clear workplace boundaries. Memes went galore about senior workers being baffled by their younger colleagues using ‘cool,’ ‘byeeeee’ and other such ‘slangs’ in professional emails. GenZ workers constantly referred to their ‘boomer bosses’ as not being ‘chill.’ Fall of remote work Work post the pandemic, has changed since companies and workers have realised that remote work has both pros and cons. Remote work allows the cutting down of commuting costs and time for employees, leading to higher productivity and employee satisfaction. However, there were also cases of remote workers being let go due to not working enough, and often at all. In Aug 2024, an Australian employee with 18 years of experience lost her job after her company- Insurance Australia Group, tracked her work over three months and found that she did not have enough keyboard activity and often started work late and logged off early. The incident went viral with many employers blaming remote employees for working less than their in-office colleagues. Anna Sebastian, Narayana Murthy & Mental Health In July 2024, Anna Sebastian, a 26-year-old employee of Ernst and Young, took her own life reportedly due to work pressure. Sebastian’s mother also penned a heartfelt letter to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani highlighting how her child was burdened under unrealistic work pressures. The letter ends with: “I hope my child’s experience leads to real change so that no other family has to endure the grief and trauma that we are going through. My Anna is no longer with us but her story can make a difference.” It prompted widespread condemnation of ‘hustle culture’ and the myriad ways in which work affects the mental health of employees. Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys and one of India’s foremost businesspersons reiterated his stance about work, sparking a new wave of support and fury. In November, he expressed his disappointment over India switching to a five-day work week from a six-day one and called for a 70-hour work week to become the norm once again. “We first have to get a life, then we can worry about work-life balance,” said Murthy, talking at a media interaction. Anna Sebastian’s tragic death and Narayana Murthy’s comments, when seen in the larger context, form the perfect example of the growing need to value mental health at work. Work vs Life: Here's what defined workplaces in 2024

<p>When I landed in Dubai, I knew I had limited time and lots to do. A five-day trip would not be enough. I checked into Ibis World Trade Center Dubai which is in the heart of DIFC. I wanted to go and explore every part of Dubai.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Since I am a vegan I chose to dine at – Planet Terra, which had plenty of options for me. The interiors were chic and boho.&nbsp;I loved their muffins. Desert safari was at the top of my bucket list and I paired it up with an ATV ride. I could see the Oman border from the sand dunes during sunset. This was followed by a visit to Camp Nomad where I saw a traditional dragon dance. The dragon dance involved spitting fire in the air and I was awed at this tradition. I was not expecting much from the live shows in Dubai but camp nomad was lit.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Back at the hotel, I enjoyed live music which was specially curated to empower local artists. I enjoyed the remix of American, Indian, Armenian and Spanish music. Bollywood music is a big part of the culture in Dubai since 40 per cent&nbsp;of the residents of Dubai are Indian. I loved observing how I could speak with every other person I met in Hindi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I knew Dubai had a great immersive dining scene and I couldn’t wait to try. I ended up at Seven Paintings to try the infamous immersive dining menu inspired by seven famous paintings across the world. My first course was actually locked in a treasure box and I had to open it with a key. My second was inspired by Banksy and another was inspired by Picasso. It was a meal like I have never had before.&nbsp;</p>

<p><img alt="f" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="3e3d22ec-18b3-4cb9-81be-c44746eae1ff" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/thumbnail_IMG_7031.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I also visited Dubai Frame – a spot from where I could see all of Dubai. Burj Khalifa rose in the distance allowing spectacular views. I truly fell in love with Dubai there. The views from the frame made me feel like I had stepped into the future. Truly stunning and mesmerising. It was this view which made me feel like I needed to work harder in life and own a house in Dubai.<br />
<br />
Al Seef is one of the most popular promenades of Dubai. From here, we took a short boat ride and ended up in the gold souk. Designs like we had never seen before and stunning leopard-inspired jewellery caught my imagination. I could not imagine enjoying an afternoon anywhere else. At Al Seef, I also came across traditional antique shops which were selling lanterns and sculptures. However, I had no luggage space as a budget traveller.&nbsp;</p>

<p><img alt="f" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="22ecfbb2-6be6-42ab-b587-eb52614bd8bb" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/thumbnail_IMG_7320.jpg" /><br />
<br />
The cars in Dubai are spectacular. While driving around the Jumeirah region, I saw massive cars and plastic surgery clinics. The Jumeirah beach also had much to offer. Famished, I reached Slay Bar and Kitchen in DIFC where I tried tacos, pizzas and salad bowls alike. Slay is one of the places serving the best fusion food out there.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The best part was coming back to my room after a long day. The room had stunning views of buildings around and was a short drive away from Dubai Mall.</p>

<p>Dubai Mall had everything I could possibly imagine and stunning views of Burj Khalifa. I had underestimated how Burj Khalifa could make someone feel. It motivated me and made me realise there’s so much more to life and grander ways to live. Just imagine the view from the top of that building!&nbsp;<br />
<br />
At Dubai Mall, I also visited the immersive exhibition ARTE which has around 10 different rooms dedicated to seasons, flowers, paintings, emotions and other creative energies. I enjoyed a matcha latte in their immersive cafe and was stunned to see how flowers automatically got created around the cup. ARTE made me realise I need to surround myself with art to be happier. &nbsp;<br />
<br />
After shopping, I dined at Twine – a multi cuisine breakfast and lunch spot. However, I did not expect much from the food – it was exactly as per my Indian palate. The theme of the restaurant was modern with a hint of boho. I realised boho is perhaps one of the leading themes in designs for restaurants in Dubai.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
My Dubai trip would have been incomplete without visiting the Vishal Mishra concert at the Coca-Cola Arena. This too was quite close to my hotel. I had never heard of Vishal Mishra before and I was surprised to attend the concert and realise I knew all his songs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sadly, my Dubai trip was about to end. However, it felt luxurious and had been rejuvenating. I was glad to have made it to the centre of the world. Dubai made me realize that whatever it is I wanted, I had to go get it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A recent study indicates a worrying trend: high temperatures, which traditionally have been a major risk factor for older adults, are now becoming a major new threat to people under 35. <p>World Disability Day is celebrated on December 3 every year. The United Nations General Assembly declared the International Day of Disabled Persons in 1992 through resolution 47/3. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about disability issues and encourage support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of individuals with disabilities.</p>

<p>India is home to over 70 million people with disabilities as per the 2011 Census, though recent estimates suggest the actual number may be higher due to underreporting and population growth.</p>

<p>Disabilities in the country encompass a wide range of conditions, including mobility, vision, hearing and cognitive impairments.</p>

<p>Despite legal measures like the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which aims to enhance accessibility, education, and employment, significant challenges persist. Many individuals with disabilities continue to face barriers to full participation in society, including limited access to healthcare, education, and jobs, along with social stigma. Data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) highlight that people with disabilities in India are more likely to experience poverty and social exclusion than the general population. There remains a pressing need for improved data collection, greater awareness, and stronger enforcement of disability-inclusive policies to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.</p>

<p>But even amid these challenging circumstances, people with disabilities are thriving. Despite the obstacles they face, the power to overcome them has always helped them in striving hard to achieve success; each small step forward is a triumph, leading them toward a better future.</p>

<p>Mohammed Haneef Malik, a resident of Pattan in Kashmir, has emerged as a symbol of hope for people with disabilities in the region during the lockdown. After losing his eyesight in 2007, Malik has worked hard to turn his disability into a source of strength. Previously an electrician, he joined the Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), an organisation that supports individuals with disabilities in Kashmir.</p>

<p>At VMS, he continues to repair electrical appliances and fittings, setting a strong example for his colleagues. Despite various challenges, Malik remains committed to his work, traveling daily to his office in Srinagar before visiting the homes of people with disabilities to offer his help, ensuring they receive support during these challenging times.</p>

<p>Malik has become a well-known figure in his community over the past few years, offering support to many in need. "People reach out to me whenever they encounter someone with a disability who needs assistance," he shares. Malik acknowledges that society has been instrumental in supporting the cause he is so dedicated to.</p>

<p>Born with partial visual impairment, Mohammed Haneef Malik lost his eyesight completely in 2007. Since the Covid pandemic lockdown, he has been teaching people with disabilities how to use available technology to become more independent.</p>

<p>He also encourages those with visual impairments to continue learning and writing in Braille. Malik has a vision of opening a training institute to teach electrical skills to people with visual disabilities, but a lack of funds has made it difficult to move forward. "Such a project requires significant investment, and I lack both the land and the necessary equipment to begin," he says.</p>

<p>Despite these challenges, his main goal remains clear: "My sole objective is to help these individuals soar, overcoming their disabilities."</p>

<p>Malik is not the only person with disability who is proving to be shining example for the other members of the community.</p>

<p>Javed Ahmed Tak, a Padma Shri awardee, has been leading the Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline (HWOH) since 2003.</p>

<p>In 2008, the organisation established a "school for special children" after beginning formal education for children with disabilities in 2006.</p>

<p>"Financial support from CRY [Child Rights and You] helped us expand," Tak explains. He expresses frustration about lack of schools for children with disabilities in southern Kashmir, where many such children drop out every year due to social stigma and exclusion.</p>

<p>"No one wants to be friends with them," he says.</p>

<p>Tak highlights the shortage of trained rehabilitators in many organisations, though he notes that more professionals are now coming forward to help. Another challenge is the lack of accessible transportation, which HWOH addresses by hiring a car and receiving a van from the J&amp;K Police and other government authorities to bring students from remote areas.</p>

<p>The school only offers education up to Class 8, and after that, students are enrolled in mainstream schools with additional tutoring for exams.</p>

<p>With CRY’s help, HWOH also offers training in visual arts, crafts, and music, with students like Saima Hussain going on to work in a cultural academy.</p>

<p>Tak strongly believes that the plight of children with disabilities in Kashmir is dire, describing their treatment as "worse than animals." He shares that many psychiatrists have urged the creation of more special centres to protect these individuals from exploitation.</p>

<p>Despite slow progress in learning, Tak is proud that many children are now contributing to their families.</p>

<p>Tak himself became wheelchair-bound after being injured during political violence while pursuing his graduation, which led him to found HWOH with six others.</p>

<p>From 2009 to 2014, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs encouraged HWOH to have its students participate in national-level sports events, where they won medals.</p>

<p>Tak cites lack of political will for neglecting disability issues, saying, "Disability is the least priority for our politicians. We are also humans; we should be part of development to contribute to national productivity."</p>

<p>Tak also praises the 2016 Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, which was not fully implemented in J&amp;K until 2019, but he notes that the revocation of Article 370 led to a 4 per cent reservation in public jobs and 5 per cent in education for people with disabilities.</p>

<p>He is proud that HWOH's efforts have inspired other NGOs, like the Jigar Institute in Jammu, to join the cause, and he emphasises the importance of collaboration with the education department to help teachers integrate disabled students into mainstream classrooms.</p>

World Disability Day 2024: Honouring strength and inclusion

<p>Surrounded by racks of colourful dresses and blazers in China's manufacturing hub of Guangzhou, plus-size clothing brand owner and influencer Amanda Yao is on a mission to promote body positivity.</p>

<p>She is part of a small but growing number of women in China challenging restrictive beauty standards, including thinness, pale skin and childlike features.</p>

<p>Online, a frequently circulated saying claims that "there are no good women over 50 kilogrammes (110 pounds)", while recent social media challenges have women squeezing into children's clothes or showing off the coins they can stack on their collarbones.</p>

<p>Yao makes fashionable, high-end clothing for plus-size women, offering a vibrant contrast to the poorly cut offerings normally available in "slimming" dark colours.</p>

<p>"I want my customers to have clothes that express who they are inside, rather than soulless pieces that exist only to make them look thinner," the 35-year-old told AFP.</p>

<p>When it comes to clothing, most Chinese retailers focus on smaller sizes and "think that larger people don't need fashion and don't need beautiful clothes", Yao said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"But we have work, we have families, we have respectable lives, and we also need some fancy clothes sometimes."</p>

<p>To promote her online store, Yao posts pictures of her outfits on the Instagram-like Xiaohongshu app, often sporting leggings and tight-fitting workout tops she wears to climb the hills near her office.</p>

<p>"Reject body anxiety," Yao, who openly talks about weighing 100 kilograms, wrote in one post to her more than 15,000 followers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So what if I wear a strappy top and have big arms?"</p>

Yao began selling plus-size clothing four years ago after returning to China from the United Kingdom, where she had worked for several years.</p>

<p>"I found it especially hard to buy clothing here," she told AFP.</p>

<p>Items ordered online often failed to match sellers' photos, and Yao grew sick of "very ugly clothes".</p>

<p>In her Guangzhou office and showroom this month, Yao showed off a Chinese-style pink silk jacket from her brand Yue Design, while modelling a bright green cardigan and skirt set.</p>

<p>"I never post photos of myself wearing black online," Yao said.</p>

<p>By avoiding the colour traditionally recommended for larger women, she has also encouraged some of her customers to embrace brighter, more cheerful designs.</p>

<p>While clothing options for plus-size shoppers remain limited, some Chinese brands have taken steps to be more inclusive in recent years.</p>

<p>Lingerie brand Neiwai and loungewear company An Action A Day have featured larger models in their ads, though most of their items only cater to women up to 70 kilograms.</p>

<p>Aside from Yao, other influencers in China have found an audience eager for their posts about self-acceptance and photos of themselves enjoying clothing and food, despite the pressure to diet.</p>

<p>On Xiaohongshu, the hashtag "reject body anxiety" appears in nearly 200,000 posts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But this is still a marked deviation from most body image content on Chinese social media.</p>

<p>One recent popular format involves someone posting a photo of themselves and asking viewers for makeover tips.</p>

<p>These posts often draw extreme scrutiny from commenters, who pick on people for flaws as specific as having a square jaw rather than the "ideal" pointed chin.</p>

<p>With constant exposure to idealised body types, people "start to conflate the meaning of their own worth with what they look like," Stephanie Ng, who runs Hong Kong-based mental health organisation Body Banter, told AFP.</p>

<p>That has dangerous consequences, including extreme dieting and eating disorders, Ng said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is little official data on eating disorders in China, but the prominent Shanghai Mental Health Center reported an increase from eight such patients in 2002 to 3,000 in 2021, according to state broadcaster CGTN.</p>

<p>Even though Yao has built a loyal following, her posts can also attract cruel comments.</p>

<p>"Daring to post an ugly photo showing your ring-shaped torso fat doesn't equal confidence," one commenter wrote under one of Yao's workout posts.</p>

<p>She told AFP that the criticism has only made her more determined.</p>

Chinese plus-size influencer spreads body positivity through fashion

<p>Bestselling British-American writer Barbara Taylor Bradford, whose first novel "A Woman of Substance" turned her into an overnight success, has died aged 91, a spokeswoman said on Monday.</p>

<p>Taylor Bradford, who wrote 40 novels and notched up 91 million book sales worldwide during her career, died peacefully at her home on Sunday following a short illness.</p>

<p>She "was surrounded by loved ones to the very end", the spokeswoman said, adding that a private funeral would be held in New York.</p>

<p>"A Woman of Substance" tells the story of servant Emma Harte who overcomes a humble start in Taylor Bradford's native Yorkshire in northern England to head of a business empire, navigating personal tragedy along the way.</p>

<p>Many of her subsequent novels were also set in Yorkshire and followed a similar theme of great success against the odds, powered by grit and hard work.</p>

Bestselling British-American writer Barbara Taylor Bradford, whose first novel "A Woman of Substance" turned her into an overnight success, has died aged 91, a spokeswoman said on Monday. Taylor Bradford, who wrote 40 novels and notched up 91 million book sales worldwide during her career, died peacefully at her home on Sunday following a short illness. She "was surrounded by loved ones to the very end", the spokeswoman said, adding that a private funeral would be held in New York. "A Woman of Substance" tells the story of servant Emma Harte who overcomes a humble start in Taylor Bradford's native Yorkshire in northern England to head of a business empire, navigating personal tragedy along the way. Many of her subsequent novels were also set in Yorkshire and followed a similar theme of great success against the odds, powered by grit and hard work. <p>Pluto is set to enter Aquarius for the first time in over 200 years and people are celebrating the movement. It is being seen as a moment that will bring with it transformation and experts say it is a sign of good things to come for the next 20 years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pluto will stay in Aquarius until March 8, 2043. This is the first time since 1778 that the farthest body in our solar system is entering the eleventh sign. It is associated with destruction, death and rebirth, and the once-in-a-generation shift is expected to cause an upheaval in the world.</p>

<p>Astrologers say that Pluto moving into Aquarius will push people to do new things and welcome new opportunities, leading to happiness and prosperity. <p>Prince Harry just proved his commitment for the Invictus Games. On November 19, just ahead of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, Prince Harry was seen with Jelly Roll, who will be headlining the closing ceremony of the upcoming games.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a fun video that confirms Jelly Roll as the headliner for the closing ceremony, Harry is seen sitting down for a surprise tattoo, showing his commitment to the games that he started with the purpose of adding fun and joy to the lives of wounded and sick service personnel and army veterans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Harry and Jelly Roll are seen meeting at East Side Ink, a tattoo parlour in New York City. Harry was in New York in September so we think this must have been filmed then. In the video shared on Instagram, the Duke of Sussex and the “Save Me” singer are seen hanging out and joking around before the royal gets a tattoo.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Prince Harry gets tricked into getting inked</h2>

<p>As the video begins, Harry is seen being asked by someone, "Take a look around, can we get you anything?" to which he says, No, I'm alright. Is he going to be here any time soon?" as he sat in a tattoo chair.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jelly Roll then walks in and says, "Hey, hey! Tattoos! Speaking of! What's up! I'm such a fan, dude. Do you know I could not believe it when they called me and told me Prince Harry wanted to get a tattoo today? They wanted me to give him his first tattoo? This is the coolest thing ever!"</p>

<p>Taken aback, Prince Harry asks Jelly Roll why he’s wearing a glove, to which the latter says, “We’re giving you a tattoo about the Invictus Games."</p>

<p>Jelly then insists, "I'll play the Invictus Games, you just let me give you your first tattoo."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Harry then agrees but Jelly starts making one in the neck to which the royal interjects and says, "I was thinking the lower back or on my ass."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Nobody wants to see your ass, Harry!" Jelly Roll laughs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As the tattoo gets complete, Harry asks, "What's that! Dude, it's enormous.”</p>

Prince Harry just proved his commitment for the Invictus Games. On November 19, just ahead of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, Prince Harry was seen with Jelly Roll, who will be headlining the closing ceremony of the upcoming games. In a fun video that confirms Jelly Roll as the headliner for the closing ceremony, Harry is seen sitting down for a surprise tattoo, showing his commitment to the games that he started with the purpose of adding fun and joy to the lives of wounded and sick service personnel and army veterans. Harry and Jelly Roll are seen meeting at East Side Ink, a tattoo parlour in New York City. Harry was in New York in September so we think this must have been filmed then. In the video shared on Instagram, the Duke of Sussex and the “Save Me” singer are seen hanging out and joking around before the royal gets a tattoo. Prince Harry gets tricked into getting inked As the video begins, Harry is seen being asked by someone, "Take a look around, can we get you anything?" to which he says, No, I'm alright. Is he going to be here any time soon?" as he sat in a tattoo chair. Jelly Roll then walks in and says, "Hey, hey! Tattoos! Speaking of! What's up! I'm such a fan, dude. Do you know I could not believe it when they called me and told me Prince Harry wanted to get a tattoo today? They wanted me to give him his first tattoo? This is the coolest thing ever!" Taken aback, Prince Harry asks Jelly Roll why he’s wearing a glove, to which the latter says, “We’re giving you a tattoo about the Invictus Games." Jelly then insists, "I'll play the Invictus Games, you just let me give you your first tattoo." Harry then agrees but Jelly starts making one in the neck to which the royal interjects and says, "I was thinking the lower back or on my ass." "Nobody wants to see your ass, Harry!" Jelly Roll laughs. As the tattoo gets complete, Harry asks, "What's that! Dude, it's enormous.” Watch the funny video here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 (@invictusgames25) × The country star counters, "The Invictus Games are enormous," and Harry seemed shocked when he spied Jelly Roll's name in ink. The 2024 India Art Festival held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, from November 14 to17 was a heaven for art enthusiasts. This vibrant celebration of contemporary Indian art, which began in 2008 under the Indian Contemporary Art Journal, has evolved from its initial mission of supporting rural and semi-urban artists into a nationwide cultural phenomenon reaching major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Addressing art infrastructure gap The festival emerged as a response to India's limited platforms for its more than 200,000 artists. Its innovative dual-pattern exhibition model, launched in Mumbai, creates space for both galleries and independent artists, making art presentations accessible, easier, and communicable, both for creators and art collectors. Art themes The 2024 lineup maintained various styles and themes, such as landscapes as seen in the works of Bela Kumari, Rahul Naskar, and Varun Singh; abstract art pieces by Alka Pandey, Anindita Kishore, and Cheena Madan; human relationships explored by Amita Singhal, Anjali Prabhakar, and Jasmine Rizvi. Besides, a variety of spiritual art themes are portrayed by Abhishek Aacharya, Pratima Abhange, and Arshhia Chawla. There were paintings that followed the theme of realism, like the ones featured by Shyam Verma, Pankan Bawdekar, Om Thadkar, and others. The gallery also had sculptures by artists like Akshay Jadhav and Debjyoti Purakayastha. What stood out? Exploring various themes, realist paintings seemed a world apart from the rest. They had an old-school touch, simple yet powerful, as seen in Shyam Verma’s paintings. All his paintings depicted happiness where even the most ordinary person looked powerful, central to the art and their gaze held a certain intensity. On being asked, what is the central idea of his paintings, he said, “Not everything needs to show sadness. Painting is an expression, and one must always find positivity towards things.” He added, “When this piece (pointing out to one of his paintings) hangs in someone’s living room, it should create a positive environment”. As an amateur art admirer, I noticed the subjects in all his paintings had a bold look in their eyes. Talking about their gaze, he revealed, “The eyes alone capture the most expressions.” He said even if something may not be seen on a person’s face, it is in their eyes. So, eyes are a very important feature of any painting, especially if it is realist. Shree Shyam Verma from Lucknow is a self-taught painter who loves working on portraits. He wishes to revive the culture and heritage of the city through his paintings. Verma has painted exclusive portraits of the late Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his mother, and the King of Dubai, amongst many other known personalities. Participating galleries The festival featured two distinct sections: Gallery Section: This section featured prominent galleries from across India, such as: Delhi and NCR: Gallery Pioneer, OPS Art Gallery, Eminent Art Gallery, Stage Aura Planet Shree Yash Gallery. Mumbai: Bouquet of Art Gallery, House of Emerge, Tele Art Gallery, Traditional Art Gallery, Nitya Artists Center. Regional galleries from Udaipur, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Melting plastic pellets into chunky discs then squashed flat, a worker presses records in what claims to be the first vinyl plant to open in India in decades. Warm music with a nostalgic crackle fills the room -- a Bollywood tune from a popular Hindi movie. "I'm like a kid in a candy shop," grins Saji Pillai, a music publishing veteran in India's entertainment capital Mumbai, who began pressing in August. The revival of retro records among Indian music fans mirrors a global trend that has seen vinyl sales explode from the United States to Britain and Brazil. Pillai, 58, entered the music industry as "vinyl was just going out". He spent the last few years importing records from Europe for his music label clients. But he took the decision to open his own plant -- cutting import taxes and shipping times -- to focus on Indian artists and market tastes from Bollywood to indie pop after recording "growing interest". Retailers including Walmart have embraced the retro format, and megastars including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles have sent pressing plants around the world into overdrive. In India, the scale of revival is far smaller -- in part due to lower household incomes -- but younger fans are now joining in the trend. Pillai admitted the industry was still "challenging" but said the market was "slowly growing". - 'Show their love' - Vynyl record systems do not come cheap. A decent turntable, sound system and 10 records cost fans 50,000-100,000 rupees ($600-$1,180), the lower end of which is more than double the average monthly salary. But for those who can afford it, the old system offers a new experience. "You go to the collection, take it out carefully... You end up paying more attention," said 26-year-old Sachin Bhatt, a design director who grew up downloading songs. "You hear new details, you make new mental observations... There is a ritual to it." Vinyl records create a "personal, tangible connection to the music we love", Bhatt added. "I know a lot of young kids who have vinyl, even if they don't have a player. It's a way for them to show their love for the music." Vinyl is a "completely different" experience than "shoving his AirPods" into his ears and going for a run, said 23-year-old Mihir Shah, with a collection of around 50 records. "It makes me feel present," he said. Catering to these fans is a group of record stores, complementing the old records on sale in alleyway shops and flea markets. - 'Romance' - "There's been a huge resurgence," said Jude De Souza, 36, who runs the Mumbai record store The Revolver Club, saying the growing interest dovetailed with the wider availability of audio gear and records. Listening sessions organised by the store bring in more than 100 fans. Despite the growth in popularity, India's vinyl sales remain a drop in the global ocean. While the world's most populous country has one of the biggest bases of music listeners, with local songs racking up big views on YouTube and music streaming platforms, its publishing industry is small by global revenue standards. Music publishing revenues hit about $100 million in the 2023 fiscal year -- far smaller than Western markets -- according to accountancy giant EY. That is partly due to the lower spending power of its fans, coupled with runaway piracy. At a small roadside store, 62-year-old Abdul Razzak is the bridge between India's old vinyl culture and newer fans, selling up to 400 second-hand records each month to customers aged from 25 to 75.
