Recently, a video has been widely shared on social media, showing a group of underprivileged children from a slum in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state in north India. These kids recreated a bridal campaign inspired by the iconic designs of renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The video, shared by the Lucknow-based non-governmental organization (NGO) Innovation For Change, shows the creativity of these kids as they craft bridal ensembles that are inspired by Sabyasachi's signature aesthetic. The result just did not amaze the internet but also left the designer in awe of them. Sabyasachi’s iconic collection Sabyasachi, known for his exquisite bridal collections, recently posted a video on Instagram showcasing his 'Heritage Bridal' line, where he emphasized that the colour red is not just seasonal but truly iconic. Inspired by this theme, the group of underprivileged kids from a Lucknow slum recreated the looks, using donated clothes. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sabyasachi (@sabyasachiofficial) × Innovation For Change revealed that the entire video was filmed by 15-year-olds who were eager to develop their camera skills. Moreover, every red dress featured in the video was designed and modeled by girls aged 12 to 17. Jash shares wisdom from old books and tries to bring in a new perspective on contemporary events. In the past he used to make ads. In the future he wants to make films. WION catches up with Jash Dholani to know more about his philosophy, X following and his interest in old books. &nbsp;</p>

<p><br />
<strong>Why have you named your X page (formerly Twitter) OldBooksGuy? What is it about old books that attracts you? Do you think the same wisdom is lacking from new books? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Firstly, authors of old books are not afraid of getting cancelled, so they usually speak their minds. Secondly, old books are vetted by time—only the best have survived. There were many reasons I chose to niche down on old books, but these two were probably the biggest ones!&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>A lot of world leaders including Elon Musk have retweeted your posts on Twitter. How did your content reach them? What is it about your tweets that resonates with them?</strong> &nbsp;</p>

<p>The internet is amazing. I can write something sitting in a cafe in Delhi, or a train station in Budapest, and reach people around the world. But I think you're asking a more specific question about internet virality. There are parts I can control and parts I cannot. Here are 3 things I can control: volume, experimentation, and relevance. I have tweeted more than 21,000 times - that's close to a million words. So - volume is important. Before Twitter I was uploading content on Youtube and Instagram - so I've experimented a fair bit with different formats. And then there's relevance: when the trailer for the Napoleon movie came out in 2023, and became a talking point on Twitter, I immediately uploaded a thread on Napoleon - and got a reply from Elon. But I could not have done the thread if I hadn't been reading Napoleon's private letters for years before!&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Now that you’re about to hit 100k on Twitter with leading global leaders following you - what are your next goals with your Twitter platform? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I want to hit a million followers and sell a million books.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What’s your book Hit Reverse about? Please share 3 key lessons in the book. &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Hit Reverse has 750+ new ideas from 75+ old books. People should read my book if they want the best insights from old classics (and some forgotten gems) but don't have the time to read them. Here are 3 snippets:&nbsp;</p>

<p>1. Charisma is being comfortable in your own skin. Here’s La Rochefoucauld, 16th century French writer, on how to be irresistible: "There is an air which belongs to the figure and talents of each individual...We should try to find out what air is natural to us and never abandon it, but make it as perfect as we can." Authenticity is hot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>2. &nbsp;Napoleon on Courage: "Courage can't be counterfeited—it's a virtue which escapes hypocrisy." Courage with logical thought is unbeatable: "The burst of courage which, despite the suddenness of events, still leaves you capable of thought, of judgment and decision, is excessively rare."&nbsp;</p>

<p>3. Men and women miscommunicate because they dance to DIFFERENT rhythms. Nietzsche: "The same emotions in man and woman are different in tempo: therefore man and woman never cease to misunderstand one another." Well-arranged differences in tempo, however, make a song…&nbsp;</p>

<p><br />
<strong>Since most of your content involves research - how do you spend your day? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I cast a wide net. I go down rabbit holes. I read wikipedia, wikiquotes, old essays, old letters, old journal entries. My goal is to find ideas that are useful, interesting, and memorable. That's the golden trifecta - not easy to find! But extremely rewarding when I do…&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What is a philosophy/ theory that you came across recently that has baffled you? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Historian Stephen Meyer says there are some very weird gaps in the evolution of life. There are sudden explosions in new species, sudden increases in the size and capacity of the human brain - from 1 to 100 with nothing in between. Explosions and improvements so sudden that the normal evolutionary process, which takes millions of years, just can't explain them. He's saying there was some extraterrestrial influence. Very baffling idea - but he's a brilliant guy and makes his case really well. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>You were recently a speaker at Brainbar. What did you speak about there? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Brainbar is an incredible conference based out of Budapest, Hungary. Thousands of high school and college students come each year to hear talks on technology, history, and much more. This year they were kind enough to invite me for a keynote address. My talk's title was "5 Modern Mistakes." It will be out soon!&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What is your opinion on these three current trends - self care, revenge travel and international education? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I think the best form of self-care is getting richer, hotter, and more powerful. Revenge travel - I had to google what it means. Hah - I'm generally pro-revenge, just don't physically hurt anyone&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fashion has always mirrored the changing times, evolving with the pulse of culture and society. However, with Gen Z leading the charge, the landscape has transformed in exciting and unprecedented ways. This generation’s approach to style is refreshingly bold, experimental, and unapologetically individualistic—far from the traditional norms that once defined fashion. Unafraid to break the rules, Gen Z champions authenticity, embraces uniqueness and views fashion as a powerful form of self-expression. In doing so, they are reshaping the industry from the inside out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>What sets Gen Z apart is their ability to blend the old with the new. While they find inspiration in the iconic styles of the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s, they never settle for simple imitation. Instead, they reimagine the past, adding modern twists and crafting looks that are distinctly their own. This creative fusion of nostalgia and innovation feels both familiar and forward-thinking, making their influence on fashion undeniable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Retailers need to ensure that their fashion curation stays ahead of these trends while remaining thoughtfully tailored to our Indian audience. Understanding Gen Z’s powerful influence on fashion, as apparel brands we must aim to offer collections that not only honour iconic styles but also empower consumers to express their personal identity. By blending nostalgic elements with a fresh, modern perspective, the curation must reflect the ever-changing fashion landscape. This approach ensures that the offerings are culturally relevant while keeping pace with the bold and forward-thinking spirit of today’s youth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In addition to curating fashion that speaks to Gen Z, one must recognize the importance of creating an experience that transcends age and demographic barriers. Regardless of age, the Indian consumer craves an experience that seamlessly combines online and offline elements, offering both convenience and excitement. To meet these needs, it’s time for brands to become more experiential, stores must now adapt to being more than just shopping destinations—they are environments that provide an elevated, immersive retail journey that offers a seamless, fuss-free experience. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Simultaneously, the e-commerce platform must extend this experience beyond physical stores, mirroring the effortless in-store journey. Whether customers shop online, on the app, or in stores, they should encounter a cohesive, omnichannel offering that bridges the digital and physical realms. Products available in-store are instantly accessible online, ensuring consistency across all platforms. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Fashion, by its very nature, is cyclical. It constantly draws from the past, blending it with present-day innovations to create something new. This trend is especially evident in Gen Z, a generation drawn to the craftsmanship and iconic designs of previous decades. By reimagining nostalgic styles through a modern lens, they merge the past and present, creating fashion that is uniquely their own. As apparel retailers, brands must aim to stay at the forefront of this movement, ensuring that the collections not only capture nostalgia but also push the boundaries of creativity and self-expression.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We must strive to offer more than just fashion, rather create an experience that is effortless, joyful, and inspiring. Fashion should empower people, helping them embrace their sense of style with confidence.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While GenZ’s have been in the forefront of style – age is merely a state of mind. While the creativity and energy of youth are celebrated, today, people of all ages want to feel confident and express themselves through their style. In today’s fast-paced fashion world, customers may not always know what they are looking for, and that’s where we come in. Brands must create safe and inspiring spaces—both online and offline—where customers can explore, discover, and find fashion that feels both aspirational and attainable. &nbsp;</p>

<p>In this dynamic landscape, fashion retailers have an opportunity to redefine how we connect with consumers across generations. By curating collections that inspire creativity and embracing experiential retail, brands can empower every individual to express their unique style with confidence. &nbsp;</p>

The Gen-Z Influence: Revolutionizing fashion & beauty

<p>Author and National Award-winning filmmaker Trisha Das says there is no secret sauce to make a book a bestseller. Das has recently released her new book <em>The Grand Samara </em>which pays homage to Georgette Heyer's classic and wildly popular novel, <em>The Grand Sophy.&nbsp;</em></p>

<p>The story of<em> The Grand Samara </em>is a bighearted romantic comedy about family and finding the perfect match set against the exuberant backdrop of contemporary Delhi.&nbsp;<br />
Das spoke recently to WION about her sixth book, about readership in the time of social media and how attached or detached she is to the characters she creates. Here are the excerpts of the interview:&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong><em>The Grand Samara </em>is based in Delhi. Does it borrow portions from your personal experience of living in Delhi?</strong></p>

<p>It does. I lived and worked in Delhi for many years and still visit regularly. Many of the places featured in the book are some of my favourite hangouts. Many of the characters are based on Delhiites I know. Not that I’d ever tell them.</p>

<p><strong>What is that one element that is essential to make a book a bestseller?</strong><br />
<br />
If we knew then only bestsellers would ever be published. I’ve seen many mediocre books with crazy sales and far too many amazing books that don’t do as well as they should. There is no secret ingredient – it’s about what captures the collective imagination of readers in that moment. A magical combination of a million variables that changes each time. Maybe AI will be able to figure it out in the future.</p>

<p><strong>In the age of social media and digital content, do you feel the number of book readers is dwindling?</strong></p>

<p>Yes. As a content consumer, there are a lot of options out there and books require more attention span and commitment than most. Still, there is a romance in the written word that many people appreciate, no matter the generation. And, books are still the most personalised form of consumer content – you can create your own visuals for a story inside your head, based on your own preferences. Which is why I don’t think books will ever go extinct - As long as there are imaginations, there will be books.</p>

<strong>Have you ever thought of adapting any of your literary works into a feature film?</strong><br />

Author and National Award-winning filmmaker Trisha Das says there is no secret sauce to make a book a bestseller. Das has recently released her new book The Grand Samara which pays homage to Georgette Heyer's classic and wildly popular novel, The Grand Sophy. The story of The Grand Samara is a bighearted romantic comedy about family and finding the perfect match set against the exuberant backdrop of contemporary Delhi. Das spoke recently to WION about her sixth book, about readership in the time of social media and how attached or detached she is to the characters she creates. Here are the excerpts of the interview: The Grand Samara is based in Delhi. Does it borrow portions from your personal experience of living in Delhi? It does. I lived and worked in Delhi for many years and still visit regularly. Many of the places featured in the book are some of my favourite hangouts. Many of the characters are based on Delhiites I know. Not that I’d ever tell them. What is that one element that is essential to make a book a bestseller? If we knew then only bestsellers would ever be published. I’ve seen many mediocre books with crazy sales and far too many amazing books that don’t do as well as they should. There is no secret ingredient – it’s about what captures the collective imagination of readers in that moment. A magical combination of a million variables that changes each time. Maybe AI will be able to figure it out in the future. In the age of social media and digital content, do you feel the number of book readers is dwindling? Yes. As a content consumer, there are a lot of options out there and books require more attention span and commitment than most. Still, there is a romance in the written word that many people appreciate, no matter the generation. And, books are still the most personalised form of consumer content – you can create your own visuals for a story inside your head, based on your own preferences. Which is why I don’t think books will ever go extinct - As long as there are imaginations, there will be books. Kiki Hakansson, first Miss World passes away at 95 in California

<p>Queen Camilla, the wife of Britain's head of state King Charles III, has been forced to postpone her engagements for this week because of a chest infection, Buckingham Palace said on Tuesday.</p>

<p>Queen Camilla, 77, had been due to attend the opening of the annual Field of Remembrance in memory of the country's war dead at London's Westminster Abbey on Thursday.</p>

<p>She was then expected to be at the palace hosting a reception for Britain's Olympic and Paralympic athletes that evening.</p>

<p>"Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest," a palace spokesman said.</p>

<p>"With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend's Remembrance events as normal."</p>

<p>The palace announced earlier that Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 78, would instead represent Camilla at the Field of Remembrance.</p>

<p>British media said that Camilla was resting at home under doctors' supervision. No further details about her condition were given.</p>

<p>Camilla accompanied Charles on a recent tour of Australia and at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on the Pacific island of Samoa.</p>

<p>The couple broke up the long journey back to Britain from Samoa last week with what the palace called "a short private stopover" in India, a place spokesman said last Wednesday.</p>

<p>The stopover, reportedly at an ayurvedic spa near the southern city of Bangalore, was said not to be health-related.</p>

<p>Charles 75, was diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer earlier this year and has been receiving treatment. His daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, announced recently that she has completed chemotherapy.</p>

"Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest," a palace spokesman said. "With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend's Remembrance events as normal." The palace announced earlier that Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 78, would instead represent Camilla at the Field of Remembrance. British media said that Camilla was resting at home under doctors' supervision. No further details about her condition were given. Camilla accompanied Charles on a recent tour of Australia and at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on the Pacific island of Samoa. The couple broke up the long journey back to Britain from Samoa last week with what the palace called "a short private stopover" in India, a place spokesman said last Wednesday. The stopover, reportedly at an ayurvedic spa near the southern city of Bangalore, was said not to be health-related. Charles 75, was diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer earlier this year and has been receiving treatment. His daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, announced recently that she has completed chemotherapy. Catherine's husband Prince William, who is heir to the throne, is currently in South Africa as part of his Earthshot Prize for environmental innovation initiative.

<p>Known for his delicious and healthful Italian natural haute cuisine, chef Fabrizio Marino has taken his skills from Tuscany's Ristorante Maggese to Kanifushi Island's idyllic shores. influenced by mentor Pietro Leemann, a pioneer of the natural cuisine movement, Fabrizio creates artistic dishes using fresh tropical produce. His culinary journey, which started in a small Florence restaurant, led to a disciplined approach that respects nature. WION&nbsp;catches up with Chef Fabrizio Marino to understand more about his love for vegetarian food and dining trends across the world. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What inspired you to be in the food industry? What do you think you bring to the table that's unique in this field? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I focus on plant-based food because it gives me a sense of peace and freedom, reflecting my ethical and ecological values. For me, cooking is about creating meaningful themes that enhance the dining experience. Each dish begins with an inspiration that allows me to explore unique flavours and textures. As a chef, I aim to bring harmony and creativity to my dishes ensuring that every meal is a celebration of the joy of plant-based cuisine. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Tell us more about your experiences in this industry so far. &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I had the privilege of learning from an exceptional teacher, Pietro Leemann, with whom I worked for about eight years. He transformed vegetarian cuisine into a high-level gourmet experience, making plant-based both innovative and refined. His approach to cooking showcased a flow of creativity with exceptional technique. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What is the Just Veg festival at Kanifushi all about? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>We started in September 2014 (10 years ago) It was an adventure to bring Western vegetarian cuisine to the Maldives. In the Just Veg restaurant on Kanifushi island, we offered innovative dishes within an experiential menu. We had the opportunity to exchange new opinions on food with the guests, I never imagined that that first experience would be strengthened and stabilised in such a long-lasting and shared project. Guests are very fascinated by the idea of meeting a European chef and being able to taste vegetarian food for a few days in the Maldives.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Are you seeing a rise in Indian cuisine specifically at tourist hotspots? What is driving this rise in demand? </strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p>Yes, we are witnessing a growing popularity of Indian cuisine in tourist hotspots. This is mainly driven by an increased global interest in diverse culinary experiences and the unique flavours of Indian cuisine. &nbsp;</p>

<p>India and Asia's rich culinary backgrounds offer a lot of techniques and ingredients rooted in tradition. This allows us, chefs to create dishes that are not only delicious but also meaningful. As one of my colleagues puts it, 'Tradition is a trampoline, not a cage!' This highlights the innovation potential that India’s culinary heritage has. &nbsp; Moreover, consumers are becoming more and more aware of the environmental impact of their food choices. This has led to a substantial rise in demand for vegetarian and eco-sustainable dining options. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What are three challenges that chefs face today specifically if they want to be visible in the global arena? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Chefs today face several challenges if they want to establish visibility in the global arena. Three key challenges are courage, enthusiasm and gratitude. &nbsp;Chefs should have the courage to constantly innovate and push boundaries while staying true to their culinary identity. &nbsp;Often, this is difficult in the culinary industry which demands tradition and novelty. Moreover, chefs should have high enthusiasm to sustain in a highly competitive environment. It is often a struggle for chefs to keep pace with evolving trends and consumer preferences. Lastly, gratitude plays a key role in being successful as globally, chefs need to build strong relations with their suppliers, fellow chefs and patrons. They should appreciate the collaborative nature of the culinary universe. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Is there a recipe for turning into a celebrity chef in today's world? What role do food popups play in boosting awareness about a chef? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I don't think I'm a celebrity. Rather a chef very dedicated to his work and in love with life. If I'm honest I've never tried to be a celebrity. I have always worked with passion, courage and freedom. The quality of the products I offer is high, the cuisine is fun and the ideas are unusual and personal. I receive these experiences of travel, comparison and exchange as a grace. I am grateful to life for all this and I reciprocate by doing my best. Pop-ups such as the Just Veg are opportunities for growth. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What are you looking forward to during the next 5 years in your professional journey specifically related to vegetarian food? &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I'm thinking of creating more time for myself and equally, I would like my collaborators to have more time for themselves. Vegetarianism, ethics, ecology, awareness, beauty, joy, success... they are all words connected to each other and something I look forward to continuing doing in the long run. Further, I will develop sustainability projects in a broad sense, related to cooking and beyond.&nbsp;<br />

When Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna entered the fashion scope in 1997, the landscape wasn't exactly like it is today – it was more about exclusivity and what one saw on the runway.

When Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna entered the fashion scope in 1997, the landscape wasn't exactly like it is today – it was more about exclusivity and what one saw on the runway. But in the digital era, Rahul Khanna of the duo explains, fashion is constantly evolving, more accessible and faster-paced. 27 years on, the duo, too, has evolved with changing times. "We’ve had to adapt by embracing these changes while staying true to our core design philosophy. For us, it’s always been about craftsmanship and innovation, but now we’re also thinking about sustainability, digital experiences, and how to make couture relevant in today’s world. We’ve had to evolve, but without losing our essence," shares Khanna, in an exclusive interview with WION. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna (@rohitgandhirahulkhanna) × As several aspects of the fashion world continue to change, one wonders about the relevance of fashion weeks. Khanna, a firm believer in the magic of storytelling, remains positive about the present and future of fashion events. "While digital platforms offer instant access to a wide audience, fashion weeks provide a space for real-time storytelling and emotional connections that go beyond the screen," he says, adding, "There’s something irreplaceable about seeing a garment move on a runway, how it interacts with light, and the energy it creates in a room full of people. It’s also a place where the industry can come together, where collaborations and conversations happen in real life, not just through a screen." Often celebrated as one of India's most remarkable menswear designers, the couturier duo has since taken on womenswear as well. Their latest collection, Nocturnum, stands testimony to their hold on the fashion front. "Nocturnum is truly a journey into the night—a reflection of both the serenity and the unpredictability of the cosmos. We wanted to encapsulate the mystery and beauty of what happens when celestial bodies, like stars and meteors, transform as they traverse the night sky. Each piece in this collection represents that delicate balance between structure and fluidity—streaks of light that evolve into blooms," says Khanna. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna (@rohitgandhirahulkhanna) × Describing their collection as a celebration of geometry, nature, and architecture that takes place under the veil of darkness, Khanna reveals the idea of celestial meeting couture emerged from a moment of reflection. It started with a thought about the midnight sky – how it holds both chaos and calm – and that's something the two wanted to translate into fashion. "We envisioned these streaks of light falling, creating blooms as they touched the earth. From there, it was all about blending those shapes and energies into something wearable yet evocative of that cosmic dance," adds Khanna while talking about their 'tangible yet dreamlike' collection. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna (@rohitgandhirahulkhanna) × Over the years, several celebrities have sported signature Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna outfits, and the designers are in awe of how each person brings their own energy and style to their designs. But ask about Bollywood favourites, and Khanna comes up with two names – Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan. "One name that stands out is Deepika Padukone - she carries such an effortless grace and sophistication that truly aligns with our aesthetic. Another favourite would be Shah Rukh Khan, whose aura and presence elevate any outfit," he elaborates. But beyond the names, the fashion creator feels elated when someone connects with their vision and brings it to life in a way that feels uniquely theirs. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna (@rohitgandhirahulkhanna) × With its rich history, heritage and adaptability, Indian fashion has always held a special spot on the global platform, but in recent years, it's been embraced in a way that goes beyond just aesthetics. "We’re seeing more designers who are unapologetically Indian in their approach while being contemporary and globally relevant. The world appreciates the richness and diversity of our textile heritage, and today’s designers are bridging that gap between tradition and modernity, making Indian fashion not just a moment, but a movement," elaborates Khanna. While the designers have always focussed on craftsmanship and storytelling, the two aspects that play a key role in helping Indian fashion go global, there's another angle they are particular about – sustainability. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna (@rohitgandhirahulkhanna) × "Sustainability is something we take seriously, not just as a trend but as a responsibility. We’re increasingly working with natural and recycled materials, and focusing on processes that reduce waste," says Khanna, adding, "A lot of thought goes into how each piece is constructed—whether it’s ensuring that our embroideries are hand-done by skilled artisans, or choosing fabrics that are environmentally friendly."
