Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter MS Dhoni refused to run as his partner Daryl Mitchell completed a double (two runs) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 1. The incident happened in the last over of the CSK's innings, prompting questions on Dhoni's sportsmanship.

Arshdeep Singh, India's 2024 T20 World Cup-bound pacer, was bowling the last over against Dhoni, who has been fiery in this season in the last six balls. It was third ball of the over which Dhoni toe-ended towards long off. Mitchell immediately ran for a single but MSD refused to run and sent him back. Mitchell somehow managed to reach the crease before the ball arrived. Have a look at the incident below:

‘He is heartbroken’: Rinku Singh’s father reveals son’s reaction on T20 WC exclusion

On Wednesday (May 1), former England captain Michael Vaughan predicted the semifinalists of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The upcoming edition will be held in the West Indies and USA in June. Many major teams have announced their squads for the mega event and, thus, Vaughan shared his last four for the ninth edition. While many former cricketers and experts have named India and Australia or India and England as the two finalists, Vaughan made a bold claim by not including the Asian giants.&nbsp;

Neither India nor Pakistan!

Vaughan's T20 WC semifinalists are defending champions England, Australia, South Africa and co-hosts West Indies. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "My 4 Semi finalists for the T20 WC … England, Austrlalia, South Africa and the West Indies .. #T20WC2024"

‘You’ve made him a scapegoat,’ former Indian cricketer blasts BCCI for Rinku Singh’s exclusion from WC squad

The BCCI selection committee on Tuesday (Apr 30) picked wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant in the 15-member India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.

The BCCI selection committee on Tuesday (Apr 30) picked wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant in the 15-member India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. Pant's comeback after suffering a nearly fatal car crash is nothing short of a fairytale but to make the WC flight, he had to make big sacrifices. In order to give the best account of himself for T20 WC consideration, Pant went on a strict food diet that helped him to achieve match fitness. As per a report in Times of India, Pant had to snub his favourite food items like fried chicken, biryani and ras malai. "He adopted a calorie-deficit diet since late December. If his body demanded 1400 calories a day, he was given around 1000 calories. It was tough on him since he had to train very hard to gain match-fitness and had to strengthen the muscles on his injured right leg," a source involved in Pant's rehabilitation was quoted as saying. In an attempt to not get bored by the same, flavourless food, Pant moved into a rented house in Bengaluru while he was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). "He was allowed only 5 ml of extra virgin olive oil. He couldn't give up his love for chilly chicken. So, a recipe was derived to make it with that much oil. Goan bhindi was one of his favourites," the source added. Pant lost considerable weight Apart from strict food habits, Pant focused on taking solid sleep at night, devoid of distractions brought by the electronic gadgets. "All gadgets, including phones, iPads and TVs were shut down by 11 in the night. He had to have eight-nine hours of uninterrupted sleep to get back to rigorous training next morning," the report quoted a source as saying. As a result, Pant lost close to 16 kilogrammes over the course of four months, leading up to the start of the IPL where he had already played some sizzling knocks for Delhi Capitals Also read | India T20 World Cup squad: Five 'unlucky' players to have missed the WC flight The car crash had caused significant physical damage to Pant who was forced to step back from the game. According to reports, the Indian dasher suffered a severe right knee injury that required ligament reconstruction surgery. He also had a fractured wrist and ankle that took significant physiotherapy to heal. Rishabh Pant’s diet secret REVEALED that helped him to make India comeback

On Tuesday (April 30), the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced India's 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, in the West Indies and USA. Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming edition, with Hardik Pandya returning to the national side as the vice-captain. Meanwhile, the squad also saw the inclusion of Shivam Dube, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson whereas four of them were named as reserves. Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar shared his views on the provisional squad and feels T Natarajan, playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024, should have been added.

Natarajan has been part of the Pat Cummins-led SRH franchise in the ongoing IPL season. He has been an integral part of the lineup, nailing his yorkers and maintaining&nbsp;stringent lines in&nbsp;death overs. Natarajan has picked 13 wickets at an average of 19.38 and a strike rate of 12.92. Although he has been a bit expensive, with an economy of 9, he has bowled the tough overs in the end. Thus, Gavaskar feels Natarajan should have been part of the 15-man squad, which comprises reserve players such as Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed.&nbsp;

<h2>'T Natarajan&nbsp;has been bowling extremely well'</h2>

While talking to India Today, Gavaskar said, "I was thinking more like T Natarajan, the left-arm pacer bowler. He has been bowling extremely well. So, I thought maybe he could have been in the team. But that's okay. I think the seam bowlers that they have got, they all have experience. So no problem with that."

Notably, India will enter the T20 WC with four spinners (Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav) and just three specialist pacers. However,&nbsp;Gavaskar believes that all-rounder Hardik Pandya&nbsp;will serve as the fourth-seam bowling option for the one-time winners.

Gavaskar said, "Well, there is Hardik Pandya to bowl as well as the fourth seam bowler, so maybe that's the reason they've (selectors) gone with four spin bowlers. The pitches in the West Indies... there'll be a little more help for the spinners than for the quick bowlers. As we have seen in the IPL, the slower the deliveries, the harder it is for the batters to hit and that's perhaps the reason why they have gone with extra spinner."

Gavaskar highlighted that a change in 'attitude' and 'approach'&nbsp;could ensure the Rohit-led team's success in the upcoming edition and help them end their trophy hunt since 2013. He added, "There have been changes in attitude, changes in approach, which we saw in the 50-over World Cup (last year in India), and that augurs well for this (T20) World Cup as well."

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav hobbled off the field after picking his first wicket of the night against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Ekana Stadium on Tuesday (Apr 30). The apparent injury to Mayank, whose extent is yet unknown, has led to speculations online that LSG captain KL Rahul had rushed the express pacer back into the squad.&nbsp;

After winning the toss, Rahul was quizzed about Mayank's return to the matchday squad where the skipper revealed he had been pushing the medical staff for the pacer's return.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"He bowled really well and had huge impact for us. As a captain, I was tempted to bring him to the team as quickly as possible," said Rahul.&nbsp;

"I keep pushing the physios and medical staffs to give him the confidence. He was eager to go but it's important for him to get enough confidence in the nets. He has to come here and bowl fast without thinking much about the injury," he added.&nbsp;

Mayank was not at his fluent best, as was evident in the first over of the night when he bowled a no-ball and wide to kickstart the proceedings. He did manage to go unscathed in the next couple of overs but upon being summoned to bowl the penultimate over, Mayank felt something.&nbsp;

He bowled an express delivery straight on the stumps which Afghan veteran Mohammad Nabi could not keep out. But as Gerald Coetzee arrived on the crease to face the pacer, Mayank could be seen hobbling off the field. His teammate Naveen-ul-Haq stepped up and bowled the remaining five deliveries to close out the over.&nbsp;

Did KL Rahul rush Mayank Yadav into LSG squad? Pacer hobbles off after taking wicket against MI

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav is set to return as they face a wobbling Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 30. Mayank lit up the IPL in his first three matches, taking six wickets. He, however, got injured in his third match against Gujarat Titans on April 7 and walked off the field after just bowling one over and giving away 13 runs.

Mayank's pace will be a huge boost for LSG who are aiming to get into the top three of the points table with a win. They already have five wins from nine games and currently, sit at number five on the points table with 10 points. LSG will also be hoping to bounce back from the seven-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals in their last match at home when they failed to defend 197.

For Lucknow, skipper KL Rahul has been in good form, scoring 378 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 144. Apart from him, no other batter has been consistent but they have chipped in as and when required. In the bowling department, Yash Thakur has been their best bowler with 10 wickets in eight games. However, LSG's spinners Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi, who both have five wickets each, would be looking to be more effective.

As for MI, they are fighting to stay alive in the race for&nbsp;playoffs after losing six of the nine games played. After losing the first three games, MI looked to be back with three wins in the next four games but their campaign derailed again with two consecutive losses in the last two games.

Neither MI's batters nor their bowlers have been able to wrest control of the innings at crucial junctures which is reflected in their ninth position on the points table.

The newly introduced 'Impact Player' rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL) may have been the reason for Rinku Singh’s ouster from the Indian T20 World Cup squad announced on Tuesday (Apr 30), according to an unnamed BCCI official, as quoted by news agency PTI.

The BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar announced the 15-member squad for the World Cup in the West Indies and United States of America (USA), scheduled to start in June. However, the fans are slamming the panel for only relying on IPL form to select the squad - a sentiment that was echoed by the BCCI official. "No doubt, Rinku paid the price for the Impact Player Rule. He is plain and simple unlucky. Hardik might be in poor form but he is still India's best seam bowling all-rounder and it would have been a risk dropping him considering he is the only one who has bowled," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. The Impact Player rule allows the IPL teams to essentially play a "12-a-side" match which means someone like Rinku did not have ample batting opportunities this season to show his talent. Also read | India T20 World Cup squad: Five 'unlucky' players to have missed the WC flight Impact rule tips scales in Dube's favour In the eight matches for KKR, Rinku has only faced 82 balls, which averages around 10 balls per inning. Apart from the KKR openers, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have faced the lion's share of bowling. Comparatively, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have utilised Shivam Dube as the enforcer, often bringing him at no. 4 and 5 to up the scoring rate. The faith imposed by the CSK think tank in Dube's batting has led to the southpaw's return to the Indian squad as well. However, if there was no Impact Player rule, Dube would not have been substituted nearly as much as he has been, due to poor returns with the ball. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has barely tossed the ball to Dube this season as he becomes easy fodder for the batters. Consequently, the selection committee agreed that slotting Rinku alongside Pandya and Dube was too big of a risk. Ever since making his debut for the Indian team in the T20 format, Rinku has been one of the most consistent batters. In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Singh has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24 - a stat combination that not many modern batters can boast of, especially in the Indian squad. Impact Player rule led to Rinku Singh’s ouster from India’s T20 WC squad? BCCI official reveals

The BCCI selection committee on Tuesday (Apr 30) named the 15-member provisional squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, scheduled to start in the West Indies and United States in June.

While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retained their positions in the squad, and Yuzvendra Chahal making a comeback, several gun players have been left out by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, that has raised eyebrows all around&nbsp;

Rinku Singh:

One of the biggest names to miss out on the squad is Rinku Singh who has been put&nbsp;in the four-man reserve squad. Singh has had a relatively sedate IPL so far and the selectors have gone ahead with power hitter Shivam Dube ahead of him.

In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Singh has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24&nbsp;- a stat combination that not many modern batters can boast of.&nbsp;

Shubman Gill:

The star Indian opener was a guaranteed starter in the Indian squad prior to the IPL but some modest contributions with the bat for Gujarat&nbsp;Titans led to his demotion.&nbsp;

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli making it to the squad, it was always going to be a touch-and-go scenario for Gill who would now have to wait in the wings for an opportunity.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ruturaj Gaikwad:

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been having a stellar season with the bat so far. Having already smashed a century and nearly getting another in consecutive matches, Gaikwad would be crestfallen to not have even made it to the reserves for the World Cup.&nbsp;

Ravi Bishnoi:

With Yuzvendra Chahal on the periphery of the Indian squad for a long time, many believed that Ravi Bishnoi was going to partner Kuldeep Yadav in the World Cup. However, the selectors went ahead with tried-and-tested Chahal in the squad.&nbsp;

Mukesh Kumar:

The pacer had been in the reckoning for the Indian squad, having played the T20I series against Afghanistan in January. However, the selectors preferred to go with the known commodities that have been doing the heavy-lifting in the pace department for the last few years.&nbsp;

Notably, according to ICC guidelines, all teams are allowed to make changes to their squad until May 25, after which&nbsp;any alteration will require approval from ICC's Event Technical Committee.

India T20 World Cup squad: Five ‘unlucky’ players who missed the WC flight

Indian cricket fans were furious after the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar announced the 15-member T20 World Cup squad on Tuesday (Apr 30) evening. The exclusion of Rinku Singh from the squad invited the wrath of the fans who questioned if performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the only criterion for player selection.&nbsp;

Ever since making his debut for the Indian team in the T20 format, Rinku has been one of the most consistent batters.&nbsp;In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Singh has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24&nbsp;- a stat combination that not many modern batters can boast of, especially in the Indian squad.&nbsp;

The southpaw has been dropped after getting limited batting opportunities with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL.&nbsp;

Apart from Rinku's exclusion, fans were not happy with Yuzvendra Chahal being rushed back into the squad, especially owing to his known struggles on the international circuit. Ravi Bishnoi was being touted as the other wrist-spinner to partner Kuldeep Yadav on the world stage but the selectors went back to the conservative choice.&nbsp;

Similar was the case with Shubman Gill who had to contend with a spot in the reserves as both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma got the nod to play, what could arguably be their last ICC tournament.

Here are some of the reactions from fans and pundits over the squad selection:

‘10 steps back’: Fans furious post India’s T20 World Cup squad announcement by BCCI

On Tuesday (April 30), the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, to be held in the West Indies and USA in June. Rohit Sharma will lead the national side while Hardik Pandya will be his deputy. Among the big names, both Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been included in the provisional squad, while&nbsp;KL Rahul has been left out. The likes of Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill have been named in the reserves.

BCCI shared India's squad on their official handle on X, formerly Twitter. Here is the post:

Talking about the squad, Rinku Singh -- who averages a whopping 89 and strikes at&nbsp;176.23 in 15 T20Is -- and KL Rahul are the two big names to miss out. Rinku has done incredibly well in the limited chances he has got for Team India in the shortest format. However, Shivam Dube, Hardik and Ravindra Jadeja got the nod ahead of him. Dube has been in top form, both for India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the past year and, hence, got rewarded.

Meanwhile, Rahul was also in contention but missed out with Pant -- who made his return to competitive cricket during IPL 2024 -- and Samson edged past the former due to their form in the ongoing IPL season. Pant and Samson have been among runs in the 2024 edition, fourth and sixth-highest run-getter respectively, with a better strike-rate than Rahul.

The regulars such as Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, etc., have been included in the squad while Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have also been included in the team.&nbsp;

<h2>Nortje returns for Proteas</h2>

Having missed out on the team in recent times due to injury, Nortje’s return will be a big boost for the side which also includes the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Gerald Coetzee. Nortje has been a big value addition to the Delhi Capitals side in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season. Quinton de Kock will also feature for the Proteas in his last T20 World Cup for the nation. He had earlier announced his desire to retire from national duty after the tournament in the USA and the West Indies.&nbsp;

De Kock’s potential partner in the Playing XI will be Ryan Rickelton who impressed in the SA20 in South Africa. The middle order will consist of Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs with all starring for their respective sides in the IPL.&nbsp;

T20 World Cup: No international return for Faf du Plessis, Anrich Nortje included in South Africa squad

The countdown for the T20 World Cup has already started as all participant teams look to make their mark on the tournament starting on June 1. Team India&nbsp;will be no stranger to the occasion as they will walk into the T20 World Cup as one of the favourites to win the title.&nbsp;With almost a month to go for the T20 World Cup, the anticipation&nbsp;surrounding the inclusion of&nbsp;Hardik Pandya has stolen the spotlight in the Indian cricket&nbsp;fraternity&nbsp;as reports suggest he could&nbsp;be dropped&nbsp;from the squad.&nbsp;

<h2>Why is Hardik Pandya at risk of being axed?&nbsp;</h2>

Not long ago, Hardik was someone who could not be easily dropped from the T20 squad owing to his impressive performance for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the last two seasons. Besides his on-field performance, it was his leadership ability that saw him being handed the vice-captaincy in the format.&nbsp;But now he sits on the brink of exit from the Indian side, with the likes of&nbsp;Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh waiting on the sidelines to replace him. &nbsp;

In nine IPL matches so&nbsp;far, Hardik has scored 197 runs, which includes&nbsp;10&nbsp;sixes, while averaging a mere 24.63. When compared to Shivam Mavi, Hardik is nowhere near the Chennai Super Kings finisher who has scored 350 runs in the same number of matches.&nbsp;Mavi has hit three fifties compared to Hardik’s none&nbsp;while averaging&nbsp;a massive 58.33.&nbsp;

When it comes to&nbsp;bowling, Hardik is nowhere close&nbsp;to his best and has scalped four wickets during the same time. His economy of 11.95 against opposition batters makes him more vulnerable. Considering he will be facing the same players in the international outfit in a month,&nbsp;this does not help him at all. While Mavi is not a specialist all-rounder, Hardik Pandya’s presence in the Playing XI doesn't benefit the Indian team in any way as he is no longer an asset with bat and ball.&nbsp;

<h2>Poor leadership in IPL 2024</h2>

Hardik’s poor performances in IPL 2024 have&nbsp;been rounded off&nbsp;by Mumbai Indians’ horrible show on the field. In his maiden season as captain of the MI side, Hardik’s side has won only three matches and lost three&nbsp;matches&nbsp;in a row at the start of the season. Considering the current scenario, the team management might be&nbsp;reluctant to rely on his services.&nbsp;

With Hardik no longer a reliable asset and the emergence of options like Shivam Mavi, Rinku Singh and Dinesh Karthik as pinch-hitters, it won’t be a surprise if Hardik&nbsp;is dropped&nbsp;from Team India.&nbsp;

The countdown for the T20 World Cup has already started as all participant teams look to make their mark on the tournament starting on June 1. Team India will be no stranger to the occasion as they will walk into the T20 World Cup as one of the favourites to win the title.

Not long ago, Hardik was someone who could not be easily dropped from the T20 squad owing to his impressive performance for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the last two seasons. Besides his on-field performance, it was his leadership ability that saw him being handed the vice-captaincy in the format. But now he sits on the brink of exit from the Indian side, with the likes of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh waiting on the sidelines to replace him. In nine IPL matches so far, Hardik has scored 197 runs, which includes 10 sixes, while averaging a mere 24.63. When compared to Shivam Mavi, Hardik is nowhere near the Chennai Super Kings finisher who has scored 350 runs in the same number of matches. Mavi has hit three fifties compared to Hardik’s none while averaging a massive 58.33. When it comes to bowling, Hardik is nowhere close to his best and has scalped four wickets during the same time. His economy of 11.95 against opposition batters makes him more vulnerable. Considering he will be facing the same players in the international outfit in a month, this does not help him at all. While Mavi is not a specialist all-rounder, Hardik Pandya’s presence in the Playing XI doesn't benefit the Indian team in any way as he is no longer an asset with bat and ball. In his maiden season as captain of the MI side, Hardik’s side has won only three matches and lost three matches in a row at the start of the season. Considering the current scenario, the team management might be reluctant to rely on his services. With Hardik no longer a reliable asset and the emergence of options like Shivam Mavi, Rinku Singh and Dinesh Karthik as pinch-hitters, it won’t be a surprise if Hardik is dropped from Team India.

New Zealand have named their 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup which starts in June first week. With the shortest format WC set to be played in the USA and Caribbean, the Kiwis have decided to keep the squad experienced instead of experimenting, said head coach Gary Stead.&nbsp;

"We expect the venues in the West Indies to offer quite varied conditions and feel we've selected a squad with the scope to adapt to those conditions," Stead said.

Only two players in the squad will be playing in their first T20 World Cup - pacer Matt Henry and batter Rachin Ravindra.

"Matt has worked exceptionally hard on his skills across the phases of a T20 game to come back into selection consideration.

"Rachin has made every post a winner in the past 12 months and it was exciting to see him continue that trajectory over the summer in the T20 format against Australia," Stead said of their selection.

The squad will be led by Kane Williamson who returns after missing NZ's last two T20I series - the&nbsp;home series against Australia in February due to father duties and the recently played away series against Pakistan because of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Devon Conway also comes back to the squad after being ruled out of IPL 2024 with a thumb injury he sustained in the Australia series.

NZ had sent a depleted squad to Pakistan and only four players - Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, and Mark Chapman - have made it to the World Cup squad.

Veteran bowler Tim Southee has also been included along with Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson as well. Pacer Ben Sears has been named as the 16th man - the travelling reserve.

A resurgent Delhi Capitals (DC) will be facing second-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 29 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. DC have bounced back emphatically in the season, winning four of their last five games after losing four from their first&nbsp;five games.

KKR, after starting out the season with three wins on the trot, are having a see-saw moment with three losses and two wins in the last five games. Nonetheless, KKR have played two games less than DC and have same points - giving them a relatively pressure-free situation to play under.

Both the teams are reliant on their batting to win the games as evident by their last few outings. While KKR have gone past 220 in each of their last three innings, DC have done it twice with one being a 199-run score.&nbsp;

The openers from each side, Sunil Narine for KKR and Jake Fraser-McGurk for DC, have been in scintillating form this season. Narine, primarily a bowling all-rounder, has scored 357 runs in eight innings so far, while Fraser-McGurk, playing his first IPL, has smashed 247 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 237.50.

With their batting being almost equal in terms of hitting power, it'll probably come down to the bowlers and how well they can handle the pressure. The venue, Eden Gardens, has seen 200+ scores in eight of the last 10 innings and the batters have been extra brutal with scoring this season.

While KKR have a good mix of domestic and foreign bowlers, DC have Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed who have a better past record against current KKR top order. However, in their last meeting in the IPL 2024, KKR had tore apart DC for 272/7 in 20 overs - third highest score in history of the league.

DC, who are playing their second match in three days, will be hoping to ride on the momentum to keep the playoff hopes alive.

The Indian men’s team selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar will have a tough decision in hand to choose the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. Ahead of the team selection, one of the reports has suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering dropping Hardik Pandya from the Indian squad and instead naming Rishabh Pant as the&nbsp;vice-captain. India will try to end their 17-year wait for the T20 World Cup victory this year as Rohit Sharma and Co. aim to end their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

<h2>Pant instead of&nbsp;Pandya in T20 World Cup?</h2>

According to Cricbuzz, the selectors&nbsp;are strongly considering&nbsp;Pant as an alternative for Pandya in the deputy's role. While the selectors panel will not consider Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as the performance matrix to choose the team, they still reckon that Pant will be a better choice to be Rohit’s deputy. Pandya’s performance&nbsp;in the IPL 2024 is also a&nbsp;major&nbsp;concern for the selectors as he struggled with the ball.

Bringing Pant into the Indian side will help team India resolve two issues&nbsp;including&nbsp;the&nbsp; wicketkeeper&nbsp;and pinch-hitter’s role.&nbsp;Alongside,&nbsp;Dinesh Karthik, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul, Pant is one of the prominent options to play as a wicketkeeper. If Pant does return to the Indian side, it will be his first match for the national side since December 2022, when he represented India against Bangladesh in the Test series.

T20 World Cup 2024: Rishabh Pant to be considered for vice-captaincy ahead of Hardik Pandya - Report

Former Indian cricketer,&nbsp;and BCCI chief selector, Kris Srikkanth believes Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Rinku Singh will certainly be selected in India's final T20 World Cup squad. It is to be noted that the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee are likely to announce the provisional squad on May 1, i.e. the deadline for all the participating teams. Ahead of the team announcement, Srikkanth lauded Rinku and said that he has proven himself in every opportunity presented and should 'get the visa' for West Indies and USA -- the co-hosts for the mega event in June.&nbsp;

<h2>'Rinku Singh is a certainty in my 15. His international record is amazing'</h2>

Rinku has had a great start to his T20I career, amassing 356 runs in 15 games at a blistering strike-rate of 176.23. Thus, Srikkanth said on Star&nbsp;Sports Press Room Show, "A classic example is Rinku Singh. Rinku Singh is a certainty in my 15. He hasn't got that many opportunities to bat in the IPL but you see his international track record, it's an amazing track record. But if we go by recent form or opportunities, he hasn't got enough opportunities."

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will look to come out of the two-loss rut against high-flying SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 28. While SRH too lost their last game against last-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), they are still at the forefront of the redefined high-scoring season.

SRH currently are placed third on the 10-team points table with five wins and three losses in eight games while CSK find themselves in the lower half with four wins and four losses in eight games played so far.

CSK are going in a pattern as of now, starting with two wins then losing two with the same cycle repeating for the next four games.&nbsp;Their last two losses came against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), one at home and one away as they look to get a grip on their season with playoffs approaching.

SRH, on the other hand, have redefined batting this season, especially in the powerplay with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma leading the charge. The duo has been aptly supported by Heinrich Klaasen in the middle with Nitish Reddy and Abdul Samad doing damage lower down the order.

SRH have gone past 200 five times this season - four while batting first and one while chasing - and lost only while chasing that too by just four runs, scoring 204 in reply to Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) 208.

Playing at home certainly gives some advantage to CSK but SRH will be buoyed by LSG chasing down 210 in the last match at Chepauk. Similarly, CSK would be hoping to reprise RCB's act of using the spinners in the powerplay to pin down SRH openers.

With more than half the season done, the game becomes crucial for CSK more so than SRH as they look for rise above the mid-table logjam, especially with Delhi Capitals turning things around.

IPL 2024 CSK vs SRH, Match 46 Preview: Chennai aim to bounce back from consecutive losses vs Hyderabad at home

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul conceded that he was too late to bring on Ravi Bishnoi during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 27. RR chased the relatively-high target of 197 in 19 overs with seven wickets in hand. Leg spinner Bishnoi, who has played all the nine games for LSG this season, bowled just one over in the innings.

"I couldn't find a good time to bring in Bishnoi, and I think it was a bit too late by the time I got him on. Obviously, the plan was to keep him at the back end and make sure if Rovman [Powell] and [Shimron] Hetmyer come in to bat, he's bowled well against them. That was the plan of how we wanted to use our leg spinners," Rahul said after the loss.

The skipper also explained using veteran leggie Amit Mishra, who was playing his first game of the season, ahead of Bishnoi.

"Mishra is an experienced player and we've been thinking about using him from the first game," Rahul said. "Today (Saturday) was the day where we felt like he could be useful against their batters in the middle [order] with how slow he bowls and the slightly larger boundary. That was the idea of using him and we were hoping to use Bishnoi in the latter half."

Despite losing two wickets for 11 runs in the first two overs, LSG did well to post 196/5 in 20 overs, thanks largely to Rahul (48-ball 76) and Deepak Hooda's (31-ball 50) 115-run partnership for the third wicket.

While chasing, RR were given a flying start by openers Jos Buttler (18-ball 34) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (18-ball 24) as the duo added 60 runs for the first wicket inside the powerplay. LSG struck back by removing both the openers in space of three balls and then sending back Riyan Parag 18 runs after.

Royals skipper Sanju Samson (33-ball 71 not out) and Dhruv Jurel (34-ball 52 not out) then took the team home with an unbeaten 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

IPL 2024: LSG skipper KL Rahul concedes being 'late to bring on Ravi Bishnoi' after loss vs Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya has blamed the loss against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 27 on 'lack of intent shown by Tilak Varma' in the middle overs. Notably, Tilak was MI's highest scorer with 63 off 32 before being run out on the first ball of the last over in a chase of 258.

"Axar bowling to a left-hander [Tilak], the better option could have been to go after him," Hardik said after the game. "I think it was just a little game awareness that we missed out. At the end of the day, that cost us the game," said Pandya after the 10-run loss.

Hardik's comments came on the back of left-hand batter Tilak's slow start during which he scored 10 off 10 balls, mostly facing the left-arm spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel - a favourable match-up in the format. Tilak eventually broke the shackles by sending Axar for 10 runs on the last two balls of his second over - which proved to be his last in the match.

"The way the games are going and how the bowlers are under pressure throughout the competition, we backed ourselves to do it, the self-belief [was there]," Hardik said about MI's mindset on chasing the total.&nbsp;

"But if I have to pinpoint, a couple overs in the middle, we could've taken some extra chances," he added.

With the loss, MI's sixth in nine games, it has now become almost confirmed that the five-time champions won't be able qualify for the playoff in their first season under skipper Pandya.&nbsp;

DC, on the other hand, are having a bit of turnaround with five wins and same number of losses in 10 games. They currently are fifth on the 10-team points table.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed India's 2011 ODI World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten as their new white-ball coach. The PCB also appointed former Australia pace bowler Jason Gillespie as the red-ball coach.

The decision was announced by&nbsp;PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday (Apr 28) at a press conference in Lahore. The head coach position had been lying vacant since Grant Bradburn left the job in January this&nbsp;year. Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood had been the acting coach in the interim period.

With new coaches being appointed, Mahmood will continue to be the assistant coach for both the head coaches.

Speaking on the appointment of foreign coaches, the PCB chairman said: "We have maintained a balance for this, there's a lot of talent in our country as well. We're not that far ahead in medical sciences which is why there are some fitness issues in our country. We wanted the best of the best because closing our options to get the best options from outside our country may not get us the best results."

"Jason's coaching career has been marked by success both at the domestic and international levels, with a focus on player development and achieving excellence in team performance. Gary's coaching career has been marked by his ability to instill a winning mentality, develop young talent, and achieve success at the highest levels of the game, making him one of the most respected and sought-after coaches in cricket," Naqvi further added.

Both the coaches have been given a two-year contract and PCB is keen to have them full-time around rather than just being with the team around a series.

While Kirsten's first series will be the tour of England from May 22 after which the team will fly to the USA and Caribbean for the T20 World Cup. Gillespie, on the other hand, has his first series against Bangladesh in August during which Pakistan will play two Tests.&nbsp;

Former South Africa batter Herschelle Gibbs brutally roasted Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for another disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. RCB have never won a trophy in the IPL and this time too, they just have two wins in nine games played so far.

Gibbs, in a post on social media platform X, pointed how RCB changes everything every season but fails to address the most important aspect.

"RCB change everything from coaches to players every other season with no success instead of changing the most important thing and that’s the nature of their wicket " wrote Herschelle Gibbs.

The comments came after RCB registered their only second win of the season, snapping their six-game losing streak with a 35-run win against SunRisers Hyderabad on April 25. The game, however, was played in Hyderabad.

RCB lost three of the four games played at the M Chinnaswamy stadium. With short boundaries and placid wicket, Chinnaswamy is considered a batting paradise. It is here only that SRH pummeled them on April 15 for 287/4 in 20 overs - the highest ever score in league history.

In reply, RCB too posted highest ever score while chasing - 262/7 - but still lost the game by 25 runs. In rest of the three matches in Bengaluru, RCB lost by 28 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), lost by seven wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets.

For RCB, only Virat Kohli has been a saving grace this season alongside veteran wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik. Kohli leads the run chart with 430 runs to his name in nine matches at an average of 61 and a strike rate of 145. Karthik, on the other hand, has 262 runs to his name in nine games, third only behind Kohli and Faf du Plessis (264).
