The 15-member squad includes veteran star Angelo Matthews and Dasun Shanaka&nbsp;while&nbsp;Dunith Wellalage&nbsp;also&nbsp;gets the cut. Matthews is the lone survivor from the Sri Lanka squad that won the T20 World Cup&nbsp;in&nbsp;2014.&nbsp;

Hasaranga’s&nbsp;eligibility had earlier caused controversy as he was likely to miss the start of the tournament.

During Sri&nbsp;Lanka's&nbsp;defeat to Bangladesh on March&nbsp;18&nbsp;Hasaranga was handed demerit points for showing dissent against an umpiring decision. According to the ICC ruling, a player with eight demerit points could be&nbsp;handed&nbsp;a ban for two Tests, four ODIs or four T20Is, depending on which came first.

In this case, Hasaranga was entitled to serve his ban during the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA and could have missed up to four matches during the tournament.

However, the player and the board soon named Hasaranga in the Test squad, despite him having announced his retirement from the red-ball format.&nbsp;

As soon as&nbsp;he&nbsp;was registered&nbsp;for the Test series against Bangladesh,&nbsp;a two-match ban was triggered, clearing the slate of eight demerit points.

Senior members of Mumbai Indians (MI) have raised concerns over the future of the franchise after the team crashed out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season under captain Hardik Pandya.

Senior members of Mumbai Indians (MI) have raised concerns over the future of the franchise after the team crashed out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season under captain Hardik Pandya. MI old guards Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah among others held a meeting to assess the future of the team, according to a report in The Indian Express. The senior players have voiced their displeasure over Pandya's style of captaincy, suggesting that the team had lost its joy and morale as the season continued. The meeting was held to discuss what the star players felt was the fundamental issue. Citing sources close to MI, the report stated that the meeting was necessitated as the team that was captained by Rohit for the last 10 years, was still coming to terms with the change of guard. “These are regular teething problems for a team that sees leadership change. This happens in sports all the time,” an MI official said. Also read | IPL 2024: Poor captaincy from Hardik Pandya will cost MI playoffs spot, feels former Indian batter Pandya faces criticism Pandya has invited criticism from pundits for not having a Plan B when things get south for him. Additionally, his tendency to single out players has not gone down well within the MI camp. Notably, after MI's loss against the Delhi Capitals, Pandya said Tilak Varma should have targeted Axar Patel more and attributed the defeat to a lack of game knowledge. A left-hand batter against a left-arm spinner is regarded as a great match-up for the former to score runs. However, Pandya's criticism felt misplaced as Varma remains Mumbai's highest scorer this season and had a fantastic inning, scoring 63 runs off of 32 deliveries. Owing to the continuous failure of the team, former Australian captain Michael Clarke opined that the five-time champions were struggling due to the factions that had developed. “I don’t know. I think it's wishful thinking for Mumbai this entire IPL. I think there’s a lot more going on than what we are seeing on the outside and you can’t have that many good players and perform this inconsistently,” said Clarke. “I think there are different groups inside that changing room and something is not working, they are not gelling together, they are not playing as a team,” he added. MI will now face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday (May 11) at the Eden Gardens in what will be their penultimate game of the season. (With inputs from agencies)

Rift brewing in MI? Star Indian players hold meeting to discuss Hardik Pandya's captaincy

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh lavished praise on Virat Kohli and labelled him as the best batter of this generation. Yuvraj further stated that the former Indian captain deserves to win a World Cup medal more than anyone else. Kohli is gearing up for India's upcoming campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 edition, in West Indies and USA in June, where he will compete in the tournament for the sixth time.&nbsp;

Kohli has been in sensational form in T20 WC history, amassing 1,143 runs. The 35-year-old was adjudged Player of the Tournament in 2014 and 2016 as well as in the 2022 edition. However, he has never won the T20 WC as his first-ever appearance came in 2012, five years after India's championship win in the inaugural season in 2007. He came close to winning the ODI World Cup at home in&nbsp;2023 but India lost to Australia in the final. Kohli ended up with 765 runs -- most by any batter in a single edition.

<h2>'I think he is also someone who needs a World Cup medal'</h2>

Thus, Kohli remains India's biggest player, especially in mega-events, and Yuvraj has backed him to win another&nbsp;World Cup title soon. The former Indian all-rounder said in a chat with ICC, "The best batter of this generation, I feel, in all formats. And I think he is also someone who needs a World Cup medal. He has one. I'm sure he is not satisfied with one. I think he surely deserves that medal as well."

Yuvraj further opined on Kohli's playing style and added, "I think he understands his game really well. He knows if he's there till the end, he is going to win the game for India and he has done that on some big occasions - against Australia in Mohali as well." He concluded, "Once he had the confidence of chasing and knowing the situation, he knows how to bat in these situations, knows which bowlers to attack, which bowlers to take singles off, when to attack again, handle the pressure and knows when to change his game."

Kohli-starrer Indian team will begin their T20 WC campaign on June 5, where they face Ireland in New York. They are placed in Group A along with arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and the USA.&nbsp;

On Wednesday (May 8), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hammered Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by ten wickets in match 57 of IPL 2024. With the heavy defeat, KL Rahul-led Lucknow are at the sixth position, with 12 points, and&nbsp;now in a do-or-die situation in their remaining games. Meanwhile, LSG's loss has eliminated Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) out of the IPL 2024 playoffs race.

The five-time winners MI can reach 12 points&nbsp;at best, even if they win their last few games. They currently have only four wins in a dozen encounters. With Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) looking almost certain to end the league stage as the top-two teams, SRH -- 14 points --&nbsp;and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) -- 12 points --&nbsp;are at the third and fourth spot, respectively. The fifth and sixth-ranked Delhi Capitals (DC) and LSG, respectively, face-off in the national capital next week, hence, one of them will have 13 points, at least (even if rain plays spoilsport). Thus, MI&nbsp;became the first team to be out of the playoffs race in this season.

MI fans were hoping for a huge favour from LSG, but Rahul-led franchise fell flat against Pat Cummins &amp; Co.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the likes of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are also nearing elimination but all three have an outside chance to date. The trio have 8 points each with a negative Net Run Rate (NRR).

<h2>Samson dismissed controversially&nbsp;</h2>

On the fourth ball of the 16th over, Samson hit a shot in the long-on region&nbsp;which&nbsp;was&nbsp;bound for a six. However, Shai Hope&nbsp;at&nbsp;the&nbsp;long-on&nbsp;caught the ball while struggling to stay in the field of play. However, with replays on offer, it looked otherwise as an angle showed Hope twice touching the advertisement holdings at the boundary line.&nbsp;

The third umpire&nbsp;was called&nbsp;to check whether the fielder had touched the boundary line&nbsp;or not. However, third umpire Michael Gough upheld the on-field decision to give Samson out on 86. The wicket took its toll on the outcome of the match as DC won the&nbsp;match&nbsp;by 20 runs as they restricted RR to 201/8 in their 20 overs. After Samson’s dismissal, RR went from 162/3 to 201/8&nbsp;which&nbsp;saw them lose five wickets in 4.2 overs and add just 39 runs.&nbsp;

Match 56 of the IPL 2024 edition took place on Tuesday (May 7) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium where Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 20 runs in a high-scoring affair. Asked to bat first,&nbsp;the home side posted 221-8 courtesy of&nbsp;Jake Fraser-McGurk's 50, Abhishek Porel's 65 and Tristan Stubbs' 20-ball 41. In reply,&nbsp;Samson-led RR managed 201 for 8 despite their captain's impressive 46-ball 86.&nbsp;

Samson kept his side in the run-chase with his effortless striking from one end. However, his dismissal shifted the momentum in DC's favour as the home side pulled off a 20-run win to remain in the playoffs race. In the 16th over, by Mukesh Kumar, Samson tried to smack a length ball&nbsp;over long-on but failed to get the desired elevation as Shai Hope completed a good catch at the deep.&nbsp;The West Indian came up with a brilliant&nbsp;effort to prevent a six as he tip-toed around the boundary and completed&nbsp;the catch. Nonetheless, it was a touch-and-go scenario as it didn't seem like a clear catch. Here is the video:

Bangladesh men's cricket team all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, has courted controversy after a video of him grabbing the neck of a fan and threatening to beat him went viral on social media.

The incident, believed to have transpired on the sidelines of a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match, has once again raised questions over Shakib's problematic behaviour.

In the widely-circulated video, the selfie-seeking fan can be seen running up to Shakib who is busy talking with his colleagues. As soon as Shakib sees the fan coming, he instantly shrugs him off, but upon repeated insistence, goes on to hold his neck, almost landing a slap in the process.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While it remains unclear if it was a playful banter from Shakib or a casual threat to the fan, those online did not appreciate the way the all-rounder dealt with the situation.&nbsp;

<h2>Shakib's problematic behaviour&nbsp;</h2>

It's not the first time Shakib made headlines for the wrong reasons, on or off the field. Although the Bangladesh veteran is considered a top cricketer across all formats, some of his conduct has been loud, a little violent and questionable.

During one of the previous seasons of DPL, Shakib lost his cool after the on-field umpire denied his clear-cut LBW appeal. Shakib angrily kicked the wickets and even uprooted the stumps, throwing them down and approaching the umpire while shouting.

Besides this incident, ICC once banned Shakib for three matches after he threatened a spectator with the bat and made a lewd gesture towards a television crew.

During the ODI World Cup in India last year, Shakib was caught in controversy yet again after he appealed for a timed-out dismissal against Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews.

The former Sri Lankan captain was adjudged out without facing a single ball as he did not arrive at the crease within the two-minute window, as stipulated in the tournament laws.&nbsp;

Speaking after the match, Shakib justified his decision saying he was at war.&nbsp;"I don't know if it's right or wrong but I felt I was at war (grins). I had to take the decision to make my team win. If it's in the rules why not take those chances," he added.&nbsp;

The Bangladesh captain said picking up the fight with Mathews and Sri Lanka helped the team raise its game as well.&nbsp;

"I thought that helped. At 36, the fight doesn't come all the time but today it helped, I won't deny that."

However, his decision led to negative reactions from spectators who questioned the Bangladeshi captain for&nbsp;not upholding the spirit of the game.&nbsp;

In the widely-circulated video, the selfie-seeking fan can be seen running up to Shakib who is busy talking with his colleagues. As soon as Shakib sees the fan coming, he instantly shrugs him off, but upon repeated insistence, goes on to hold his neck, almost landing a slap in the process. While it remains unclear if it was a playful banter from Shakib or a casual threat to the fan, those online did not appreciate the way the all-rounder dealt with the situation. Rajasthan Royals (RR) rode on skipper Sanju Samson's majestic 46-ball 86 but ended up managing only 201 for 8 in response to Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals' (DC) 221 for 8 in match 56 of IPL 2024 on Tuesday (May 7), at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. During the run-chase, RR were on course for a win till Samson's stay. However, the keeper-batter fell for a well-made 86 in the 16th over, bowled by Mukesh Kumar. It was a length ball as Samson tried to clear the ropes towards long-on but found&nbsp;fielder Shai Hope in the deep.

Hope did well to complete the catch but it seemed he had touched the ropes at some point. As a result, the on-field umpires took the decision upstairs where third umpire Michael Gough adjudged it out after only one angle of the replay was checked. This led to a long debate between Samson and the umpires as the RR captain made his displeasure known before making the long walk back to the pavilion. For his argument with the umpires, Samson was fined 30 per cent of his match fees by the BCCI.&nbsp;

The BCCI statement read, "Mr Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024. Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

At the post-match press conference, RR director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara opined on Samson's dismissal. He said, "Depends on replays and angles. It was a difficult one for the third umpire to judge. The game was at a crucial stage, so it happens in cricket. Different perspectives. Even if we have any other opinion, we will share it with the umpires and sort it out. I thought irrespective of that dismissal, RR still should have seen the game home."

Talking about the DC-RR game, Delhi rode on Jake Fraser-McGurk's 50, Abhishek Porel's 65 and Tristan Stubbs' 20-ball 41 to post 221/8. In reply, RR lost the plot after losing Samson (86) as they ended up losing by 20 runs. This became their second successive loss but they remain atop the points table, with 16 points, whereas DC now have 12 points and have moved to fifth place. SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) created an unwanted Indian Premier League (IPL) record during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 6. SRH gave away 19 extra runs inside the powerplay during their bowling - the most for any team in the league. The previous highest extra runs inside the powerplay were 16 which were given by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2023.

Defending a modest 174 at Wankhede, SRH bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave away 13 runs in the first over including four extras. South African Marco Jansen came on to bowl the next over, giving away 14 runs which included 10 extras. Jansen, however, sent back Ishan Kishan as well.

Kumar then bowled the next over and gave just four byes in extras but the over was counted as a maiden for the bowler as per the rules. Skipper Pat Cummins then came on to bowl the 14th over, bowling second consecutive maiden of the innings and getting Rohit Sharma's wicket as well.

Kumar then bowled his third over on trot, conceded five runs including an extra and took the wicket of Naman Dhir to leave MI's chase derailed at 36/3. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav then smashed Cummins for 16 runs in the last over of the powerplay as MI closed the first six overs at 52/3.

SRH couldn't get another breakthrough in the match afterwards as Surya and Tilak added 143 unbeaten runs for the fourth wicket for MI's fourth win in 12 games this season. Surya finished not out 102 off 51 balls while Tilak scored unbeaten 37 off 32 balls as MI chased the target in the 18th over with seven wickets in hand.

Earlier, MI bowlers did a great job of restricting SRH at a modest total after asking them to bat first. For Mumbai, skipper Hardik Pandya and spinner Piyush Chawla took three wickets each while Travis Head top scored for SRH with 48 off 30 ball.&nbsp;

Had it not been for Cummins' 17-ball 35, SRH would have bowled out for lower than they scored after being 136/8 in 17 overs. This was SRH's fifth loss in 11 games as they stand fourth on the points table with three more league matches to play.

The dashing opener from Australia, however, got out in the very next over when he chipped a full toss ball Ravi Ashwin towards the extra cover region. Nonetheless, his blistering innings gave a nice platform for Delhi to keep charging. The DC batters also obliged, finishing 78/2 in the first six overs before posting 221/8 in 20 overs.

After Fraser-McGurk got out, his opening partner Abhishek Porel kept the innings going. Porel eventually got out after scoring 65 off 36 balls - his first fifty in the IPL. By the time Porel got out DC had scored 144 runs in 12.4 overs. After Porel, Rishabh Pant (15 off 13), Gulbadin Naib (19 off 15) and Tristian Stubbs took DC past 200.&nbsp;

It was, however, Stubbs' 20-ball 41 runs innings which ensured the Capitals have a good score to bowl at. For Royals, Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/28 in four overs. Apart from him, Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.

DC are currently fighting to stay alive in the race of the playoffs. Before the game against Royals, they had played 11 matches in the league, winning five and losing six. They are sixth on the points table with 10 points.

Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has chimed in on the ongoing controversy between Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar. The legendary speedster said Kohli should not have responded to the critics, including Gavaskar, who had criticised his low strike rate during the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL).

Referring to both as "greats" of the game, Akram said their contribution to Indian cricket was immense but the altercation could have been avoided.

"Both are greats. Sunny bhai [brother], as a cricketer, as a human being, I know him off the field. As a commentator, he has been doing it for God knows how many years. And coming to the great man, Virat Kohli, he is a top player, a modern great," Akram told Sportskeeda.&nbsp;

"In fact, he is an all-time great in history, given the kind of performances he has had. But I think Virat shouldn't have said that," he added.&nbsp;

The former Pakistan captain urged both of them to "forget" the incident and move on from it.&nbsp;

"It is the commentators' job. If he got slow in a couple of matches and he [Gavaskar] said something, forget about it. Virat is not that kind of a person."

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/people-can-sit-and-talk-virat-kohli-lashes-out-at-strike-rate-critics-ahead-of-world-cup-squad-selection-716004">Also read |&nbsp;‘People can sit and talk,’ Virat Kohli lashes out at ‘strike-rate’ critics ahead of World Cup squad selection</a>

<h2>What did Virat say?</h2>

Kohli's spot in the T20 World Cup squad had been subject of intense scrutiny since the start of the IPL season. Despite being the leading run-scorer in the tournament, critics have gone after Kohli, arguing that the former Indian captain did not have the power game to take up a spot in the top order.&nbsp;

However, after playing a match-winning knock against Gujarat Titans last month, Kohli lashed out at the critics.&nbsp;

"I think all the people who talk about strike rates and me not playing spin well are the ones who love talking about this stuff. But, for me, it's about winning the game for the team. And there is a reason you have done this for 15 years," said Kohli.&nbsp;

"You have done this, day in and day out. You have won games for your team. And I am not quite sure if you have not been in that situation yourself, to sit and speak about the game from a box," he added.

Replying to Kohli’s remarks, Gavaskar did not pull any punches and said he will keep questioning anyone whose strike rate is low, opening the innings.&nbsp;

"Commentators questioned only when his strike rate was 118. I'm not too sure. I don't watch too many matches, so I don't know what the other commentators have said otherwise. But if you come and open and then have a strike of 118 when you get out in the 14th or the 15th over, I mean, if you want applause for that, that's a little bit different. That's different," said Gavaskar on Star Sports.&nbsp;

Gavaskar continued by saying as experts and as someone who has played the game, they know what they are talking about. He added that experts don’t have agendas and say what they see.

KKR squad, originally scheduled to land in Kolkata on May 6 (Monday)&nbsp;evening&nbsp;had their flight diverted to Guwahati due to bad weather and rainy conditions.&nbsp;The team's flight made a second attempt to land in Kolkata at midnight&nbsp;but&nbsp;again&nbsp;poor weather conditions prevented them from landing&nbsp;in the West Bengal capital.&nbsp;The flight was then directed&nbsp;towards Varanasi&nbsp;with&nbsp;the players again&nbsp;left&nbsp;stranded for the whole night.&nbsp;

KKR are next in action against Mumbai Indians on Saturday (May 11) when they take on Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens. Thankfully, KKR have enough time to recover and plan their journey&nbsp;while&nbsp;the same goes for Mumbai Indians&nbsp;who&nbsp;were last in action on Monday against Sunrisers Hyderabad.&nbsp;

On the Kolkata weather, the city has experienced scorching temperatures in April, recording&nbsp; its hottest day since 1954.&nbsp;Temperatures have exceeded the 40°C on nine different days during April&nbsp;with&nbsp;43°C being the highest.&nbsp;

At the time of writing on Tuesday, KKR were top of the IPL 2024 standings with 16 points from 11 matches. Their latest win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday may well have eased the pressure on the side, but that has not stopped them from having a sleepless night. After beating LSG by 98 runs, the KKR squad endured a tough night as they were left stranded in Varanasi as their flight was prevented from landing in Kolkata due to poor weather conditions. T20 World Cup: Most runs in T20 World Cup History

Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav played a match-winning knock against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (May 6), but Indian cricket fans were left worried as the star batter limped off the ground.

Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav played a match-winning knock against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (May 6), but Indian cricket fans were left worried as the star batter limped off the ground. The No. 3 batter looked visibly tired throughout the innings, leading to speculations that he was nursing an injury that could jeopardise his place in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Speaking after the match where he was given the Player of the Match award, Suryakumar, however, confirmed that he was not injured and that his hobbling was due to the amount of time he had spent in the middle. "I've been doing this after a very long time - first time after 14th December I've fielded for 20 overs and then batted for almost 18 overs. Little bit tired (nothing else to worry about)," said Suryakumar. "I feel it was the need of the hour - 3 wickets down when I went in. Someone had to play till the end, and that's what I did. Played for some time - I knew that the dew was heavy, and once the seam goes off, it will be easy for a batter to play. Enjoyed my time," he added. Also read | India's Suryakumar Yadav named ICC T20I cricketer of the year for second time in a row Suryakumar's counterattack Chasing a tricky target of 174, MI were off to a poor start and lost three wickets with the scoreboard only reading 31. From thereon, Suryakumar unleashed his audacious strokeplay against the SRH bowlers and managed to reach his century with a six, while also helping MI get over the line. Suryakumar was ably supported by Tilak Varma who played a sensible 32-ball 37-run innings and helped sustain the counterattack launched by the right-hander dasher. Speaking after the match, captain Hardik Pandya said the win was down to bowlers performing admirably in the first innings. "We want to focus on playing good cricket. We were good with the ball today, still reckon we gave 10-15 runs extra. Nevertheless, the way batters batted was brilliant," said Pandya. Suryakumar's resurgence with the bat augurs well for the Indian team who will be relying on him to come good in the T20 World Cup. India have been without an ICC trophy for more than a decade and Suryakumar's form would be paramount in deciding if the jinx is broken or not. (With inputs from agencies)

Amid mounting criticism from former players as to why MS Dhoni was batting extremely low down the order for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it has been reported that the former captain's delayed arrival at the crease was due to an injury he was nursing.

Amid mounting criticism from former players as to why MS Dhoni was batting extremely low down the order for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it has been reported that the former captain's delayed arrival at the crease was due to an injury he was nursing. Ever since Dhoni came down at no. 9 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), the likes of Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh have launched an attack on him, suggesting that the former Indian batter should not be part of the playing XI if he cannot come up the order. However, a report in the Times of India, citing CSK sources, claims that Dhoni has a muscle tear in his leg which has reduced his ability to run for too long. The injury happened early on in the season but due to the absence of the team's second wicketkeeper - Devon Conway, who is also out due to injury, Dhoni has been forced to take the field. Dhoni is reportedly taking medicines before coming to bat or field and has actively attempted to minimise his running. Notably, in one of the previous matches, Dhoni had refused a single to Daryl Mitchell in the last over and later got a runout on the final ball, taking the extra run. "We are virtually playing with our ‘B' team. Those who are criticizing Dhoni don't know the sacrifice that he is doing for this team," the CSK source was quoted as saying. Also read | 'Include a pacer than send MS Dhoni at No. 9' - Harbhajan SLAMS CSK star for his batting slot vs PBKS What did Harbhajan say? During the match, Harbhajan came down heavy on Dhoni as well as the CSK think tank. The former off-spinner said Dhini should not be playing and instead his spot should go to a pacer. "MS Dhoni shouldn't play if he wants to bat at the number 9 slot. It is better to include a fast bowler than him in the playing XI. He is the decision-maker and has let down his team by not coming out to bat," said Harbhajan on Star Sports. “CSK were in a need of quick runs and Dhoni has done that in the previous games. It was shocking that he stayed back in the important contest against Punjab Kings. Even if CSK win today, I will still call out Dhoni. Let people say anything. I will say what is right." CSK are currently in the top 4 but will need to keep their winning streak going to secure a playoff spot. One slip-up and the five-time champions may slide down the table into the mid-table logjam where several teams are sitting on the same points. (With inputs from agencies)

Match 55 of the IPL 2024 edition saw the Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, in pursuit of 174 on Monday (May 6). Hardik Pandya-led MI opted to bowl first and rode on the captain and Piyush Chawla's three-fers to restrict SRH to 173 for 8 before Suryakumar Yadav's 102 not-out propelled his side to a much-needed win after they were reeling at 31 for 3 at one stage.

During the MI run-chase, Rohit Sharma departed for a 5-ball 4. While Hitman started the season on a decent note, including a ton versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK),&nbsp;his scores in the last five games&nbsp;read 4, 11, 4, 8 and 6 (adding the SRH game as well). After his dismissal, a video surfaced online where the former MI skipper Rohit was seen sitting in sheer disappointment in the dugout. Fans speculated that the Indian captain was crying after his string of poor scores. Here is the video:

IPL 2024: Rohit's MI dugout video goes viral, fans speculate Hitman cried after early dismissal vs SRH

Australian batter David Warner has opened up on the acrimonious break-up with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the subsequent blocking on social media, saying it was bizarre and that it did 'hurt him'.&nbsp;

Warner realised he was blocked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise in 2023 when he attempted to congratulate his national teammate Travis Head, who was acquired by SRH.&nbsp;

"It did (hurt) because it was a sense of like hurt for fans. The fans are the most important relationship you could have. With the engagement with the fans that I had, with the team had was very good," Warner said in the latest episode of R Ashwin's YouTube show.

"Not sure why I was blocked. But, I did engage with a lot of fans on the social media side for SRH. I did feel it was my duty to engage with the fans, making sure they keep coming back. That's what is most important. But from the blocking point of view, I don't know. I have been sitting on it for about five&nbsp;years. It was bizarre. At the end of the day, I still got fans who come onto my page and talk to everyone. So it's great," he added.

<h2>Warner's SRH journey</h2>

Warner joined a struggling SRH side in 2014 and quickly went on to become a mainstay in the batting unit. He was appointed the captain in 2015 and a year later, led the team to its maiden IPL title, beating star-studded Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final&nbsp;while finishing the tournament as the second-highest run-getter with 848 runs.&nbsp;

Apart from being a terrific player for the franchise, Warner managed to form a close, intrinsic bond with the Hyderabad fans, who adored him to death. Hence, when&nbsp;the partnership between the SRH board and Warner came to a bitter end, the fans were left perplexed as to what transpired behind the scenes.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/david-warner-breaks-silence-on-fall-from-grace-at-srh-was-not-explained-why-i-was-dropped-as-captain-420196">Also read |&nbsp;David Warner breaks silence on fall from grace at SRH: Was not explained why I was dropped as captain</a>

Warner had started the 2021 IPL season as SRH captain but was sacked midway through the tournament and later dropped from the playing XI. To this day, Warner maintains that he does not know what he did to irk the SRH board. However, the southpaw has made peace with the fact that he may never get the answers he is looking for.&nbsp;

“Especially when you have played about 100 games for the franchise, I think I had four bad games in those first five matches in Chennai. It is difficult, a tough pill to swallow. There are still questions to which I think I'll never get answers, but you have to move on,” said Warner last year.&nbsp;

After leaving SRH, Warner joined Delhi Capitals where he has been shouldering the opening responsibilities. The 2024 season has not been the best for the Australian who has been injured and only featured in seven matches, scoring 167 runs.&nbsp;

'It did hurt': David Warner reflects on SRH blocking him on social media

Delhi Capitals (DC) spinner Kuldeep Yadav says that he now enjoys his bowling despite the batters attacking the bowlers more in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition. The season has seen some great hitting, especially by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) who have breached the previous highest team total of 263 set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) thrice in the season. One of those highest scores came against DC when SRH smashed 266/7 against them in 35th match of the season.

Speaking on the aggressive approach taken by the batters this season, Kuldeep, at a press event, said: "Sometimes you can get hit even on good balls, like it happened to me during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Heinrich) Klaasen and Abhishek hit sixes on good balls. But I believed in my skills, and I also got wickets that day. Now I enjoy my bowling more and I have learned all this from experience."

The spinner, however, said that he bowlers need to be more courageous and need to back their strength against trying to read batter's mind.

"I feel that the bowlers are trying more to read the batters' mind instead of sticking to their strengths. They are trying to bowl where the batter looks a little weak. But I think a bowler should understand his strengths and back his strengths. You can see Jasprit Bumrah, who backs his strengths. The way he bowls, any batter is on the back foot. He dominates the batters mentally. All these things become very important," he added.

As for his own performance, the spinner has taken 12 wickets in eight matches so far, joint-seventh most in the season. Talking about his team, DC are currently sixth on the points table with five wins and six losses from 11 games. They would want to win their remaining three league games to have a shot at the playoffs.

IPL 2024: 'Now I enjoy...,' DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav on aggressive batting in ongoing season

Indian cricket team's official kit sponsor, Adidas, on Monday (May 6) unveiled the senior men's jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA in June. The Indian team will don the kit for the tournament, hoping to end their trophy drought in the ICC tournaments.&nbsp;

The sportswear giant released the unveiling video, featuring Indian captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The video shot at the HPCA Stadium in Himachal Pradesh shows a giant-sized replica of the Indian jersey flying in the backdrop of the picturesque Himalayas.&nbsp;

The new kit is starkly different from the 2021 World Cup kit which had a dark blue hue with orange highlights only featuring on the collar. Adidas has gone with a combination of traditional blue at the front, and orange features on the shoulders with Adidas stripes on it.&nbsp;However, the jersey has only one star instead of the three usually seen on India's limited-overs jerseys.&nbsp;

<h2>Why the Indian jersey has only one star?</h2>

The stars in the jersey usually represent the number of World Cups a team has won. Since India has won only one T20 World Cup in its history, during the inaugural 2007 edition, the team is sporting a lone star, above the BCCI badge on the left side of the jersey.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Similarly for the ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue have two stars to mark India's 1983 and 2011 ODI World Cup wins.&nbsp;

<h2>India's squad for T20 World Cup&nbsp;</h2>

The BCCI selection committee on April 30&nbsp;named the 15-member provisional squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.&nbsp;While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retained their positions in the squad, several gun players have been left out by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, which has raised eyebrows all around.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Notably, according to ICC guidelines, all teams are allowed to make changes to their squad until May 25, after which&nbsp;any alteration will require approval from ICC's Event Technical Committee.

Indian cricket team's official kit sponsor, Adidas, on Monday (May 6) unveiled the senior men's jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA in June. The Indian team will don the kit for the tournament, hoping to end their trophy drought in the ICC tournaments. The sportswear giant released the unveiling video, featuring Indian captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The video shot at the HPCA Stadium in Himachal Pradesh shows a giant-sized replica of the Indian jersey flying in the backdrop of the picturesque Himalayas. The new kit is starkly different from the 2021 World Cup kit which had a dark blue hue with orange highlights only featuring on the collar. Adidas has gone with a combination of traditional blue at the front, and orange features on the shoulders with Adidas stripes on it. However, the jersey has only one star instead of the three usually seen on India's limited-overs jerseys. Why the Indian jersey has only one star? The stars in the jersey usually represent the number of World Cups a team has won. Since India has won only one T20 World Cup in its history, during the inaugural 2007 edition, the team is sporting a lone star, above the BCCI badge on the left side of the jersey. Similarly for the ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue have two stars to mark India's 1983 and 2011 ODI World Cup wins. One jersey. One Nation. Presenting the new Team India T20 jersey. The apparel company has already designed the kits for the World Test Championship final as well as the ODI World Cup, held in India last year. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retained their positions in the squad, several gun players have been left out by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, which has raised eyebrows all around. Notably, according to ICC guidelines, all teams are allowed to make changes to their squad until May 25, after which any alteration will require approval from ICC's Event Technical Committee. Here’s why India’s T20 World Cup jersey unveiled by Adidas has only one star

Pacer Josh Hazlewood believes there was no place to fit power-hitter Jake Fraser-McGurk in the Australia T20 World Cup squad as it would have meant tinkering with the already-settled top order.&nbsp;Fraser-McGurk was given the raw end of the deal by Australian selectors who did not name him in the 15-member provisional squad, announced last week.&nbsp;

Fraser-McGurk has scored 259 runs in the first six innings of the IPL 2024, at an average of 43.16 and a strike rate of 158.56, with three half-centuries to his name. Many had anticipated that the batter would be an automatic choice for the Australian squad for the World Cup but the selectors managed to spring a surprise.&nbsp;

"Where do you fit him in? It's so tough to fit into that top order with what we've got there with experience with Travis [Head], Mitch [Marsh] and Davey [Warner] in the top three, and then the middle order's pretty good as well," said Hazlewood.&nbsp;

"He'll definitely get his time. He's only young. He'll be in the team sooner rather than later, I think," added Hazlewood.&nbsp;

Prior to the squad announcement, former Australian cricketers such as Mark Waugh and Michael Clarke batted extensively for Fraser-McGurk to be included in the 15.&nbsp;

“Should be the first name on the sheet. Absolute certainty to be picked and open the batting in the World Cup," Waugh posted on X (formerly Twitter).&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Clarke said at the time:&nbsp;"The selectors have to be thinking about him now, with the team just a few days away from being selected.&nbsp;It's hard to leave him out, to be honest, the way he's played so far."

Mitchell Marsh will lead the 15-member pack&nbsp;in the USA, having&nbsp;first led during the South Africa tour in September 2023.&nbsp;According to Cricket Australia, Marsh is fit and will lead the side despite being unfit and&nbsp;not available&nbsp;for Delhi Capitals during the Indian Premier League.

Apart from Fraser-McGurk, former captain Steve Smith has also been dropped out of the World Cup squad. Having already won the 50-over World Cup in India last year, Australia will be hoping to do the double, having won their first T20 World Cup trophy in 2021.&nbsp;
