Players with Most Appearances in Men's T20 World Cup History

Ahead of Pakistan's tour of Ireland and England, white-ball captain Babar Azam opened up on the forthcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA in June. The Men in Green are placed in Group A along with arch-rivals India, Canada, USA and Ireland. They will lock horns with India on June 9 in New York and Babar revealed that the one-time winners will have plans against Virat Kohli, who has an exceptional T20I record versus Pakistan. The right-hander has 488 runs in 10 games versus Babar &amp; Co., averaging a splendid 81.33.

Prior to Pakistan's departure for Ireland and England, Babar was asked on how will they tackle Kohli. He told the reporters in a press conference, "As a team, you always plan against different teams according to their strengths. We don't plan anything against only one player. We plan for all 11 players. We don't know much about the conditions in New York and we will plan accordingly. He [Virat Kohli] is one of the best players and we will plan against him as well."

Opting to bowl first, the 2007 winners India restricted Pakistan to 159 for 7 with Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh accounting for three wickets each. In reply, India were on the mat and reeling at 31 for 4 before Hardik-Kohli's 113-run fifth-wicket stand turned things around and Kohli ended proceedings in style in a thrilling last over.&nbsp;

T20 WC: PCB chief announces WHOPPING amount for each Pakistan player if Men in Green emerge victorious

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has slammed MS Dhoni for batting as low as No. 9 during Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) clash versus Punjab Kings in match 53 of the IPL 2024 edition on Sunday (May 5). Locking horns at the picturesque&nbsp;Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK thrashed Punjab by 28 runs after defending 167 for 9 with ease. Sam Curran-led PBKS only managed 139-9 in return after opting to bowl first. Despite the win, former CSK spinner Harbhajan has slammed Dhoni for coming out to bat at No. 9.

Since the 2023 edition, Dhoni has been in decent form but has batted very low; at No. 6 or below. While many feel his fitness issues have&nbsp;prevented him from batting ahead, Harbhajan -- and many others -- expected Dhoni to come out early when CSK were reeling at 75 for 4 in less than 10 overs. He came out to bat at No. 9, in the penultimate over&nbsp;and was dismissed for a golden duck. Thus, Bhajji lashed out at the legendary captain for not taking more responsibility with the bat. He feels Ruturaj&nbsp;&amp; Co. should play an extra pacer if Dhoni has to bat so low, even after Shardul Thakur.

<h2>'Nothing happens without his permission and I am not ready to accept that...'</h2>

Speaking on Star Sports, during the halfway stage, Harbhajan said, "MS Dhoni shouldn't play if he wants to bat at the number 9 slot. It is better to include a fast bowler than him in the playing XI. He is the decision-maker and has let down his team by not coming out to bat."

He&nbsp;further opined, “Shardul Thakur came ahead of him. Thakur can never hit shots like Dhoni and I don't understand why Dhoni made this mistake. Nothing happens without his permission and I am not ready to accept that this decision to demote him was taken by someone else."

“CSK were in a need of quick runs and Dhoni has done that in the previous games. It was shocking that he stayed back in the important contest against Punjab Kings. Even if CSK win today, I will still call out Dhoni. Let people say anything. I will say what is right,” Harbhajan added.

Meanwhile, Chennai captain Ruturaj reflected on his side's first-ever win over Punjab in the last six meetings and said at the post-match presentation, "Everyone believed the wicket was slow. Even low bounce. Just that the start we got, we were thinking of pushing till 180-200. After losing wickets, thought 160-170 was a good score. Don't know what he's doing, but even in pre-season he was clocking 150kph (on Simarjeet). He didn't get too many chances, but it's never too late. Were thinking of going with an impact batter, but then we thought the batter will give 10-15 runs, but he could give 2-3 wickets. Some of the guys were struggling with flu. Weren't even sure till the morning who's playing or not. To get the win, really happy with that."

CSK are at the third spot with 12 points from 11 games and are very much in contention to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Army fans will hope for Dhoni to bat a little higher and continue to strike in the manner he has in the ongoing edition. In IPL 2024, he is striking at&nbsp;224.49 with 110 runs in 49 balls.

It was an evening of mixed fortunes for Mumbai Indians’ batter Ishan Kishan after he was offered a reality-check by Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Mitchell Starc in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) on Friday (May 3). Chasing 170 runs&nbsp;Ishan&nbsp;did make a good start but was quickly brought down to earth&nbsp;having&nbsp;scored a six off Starc’s bowling. His wicket at the Wankhede Stadium saw the crowd go silent as the home side’s desperation for a win continued.&nbsp;

<h2>Ishan gets reality-check</h2>

Coming out to bat to chase 170, Ishan took the attack to Starc and hit a six on the leg side on the third ball of the second over.&nbsp;While this made the crowd&nbsp;ecstatic, it was the next delivery that&nbsp;brought everyone back to square one.&nbsp;In desperation for another six, Starc’s delivery caught Ishan by surprise as he failed to judge the flight and&nbsp;was bowled out&nbsp;on 13 off 7. The wicket in the second over was enough for the crowd to go silent&nbsp;with&nbsp;them having little joy throughout the season.&nbsp;

After the wicket, Mumbai never recovered and slumped to their latest defeat in the IPL 2024. Suryakumar&nbsp; Yadav did resist with a 56 off 34&nbsp;balls,&nbsp;but could not avoid his side’s eighth defeat of the season. Tim David scored 24 off 20 but did not get a good helping hand as the hosts suffered their first defeat to KKR on home ground in 12 years. The 24-run win for KKR also helped them&nbsp;stay firm in second place in the IPL 2024 standings.&nbsp;

Faf du Plessis ran riot at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as he scored 64 runs off 23 balls to wreak havoc for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) on Saturday (May 4). Playing against Gujarat Titans, the RCB skipper was at his fluent best to help his side to a 92-run opening stand in the IPL 2024. <h2>Du Plessis runs&nbsp;riot</h2>

Needing 148 runs to win, Du Plessis took the attack to the opposition bowling attack and scored runs all over the park. His 17-ball fifty was the second-fastest for the franchise and&nbsp;one that&nbsp;laid the foundation for a good start. His innings of 64 runs consisted of 10 fours and&nbsp;three sixes&nbsp;and&nbsp;with Virat&nbsp;Kohli&nbsp;he scored 92 runs in the powerplay, the&nbsp;highest for RCB in the tournament’s history.&nbsp;

<h2>RCB survive late collapse</h2>

Having been 92/0, the hosts quickly were reduced to 117/6 as they lost six wickets in&nbsp;the space of&nbsp;25 runs. Joshua Little was the architect of the RCB downfall as he scalped four wickets during his four-over spell. After Faf’s dismissal, Will Jacks (1), Glenn Maxwell (4), Rajat Patidar (2) and Cameron Green (1) departed in quick succession. His 17-ball fifty was the second-fastest for the franchise and one that laid the foundation for a good start. His innings of 64 runs consisted of 10 fours and three sixes and with Virat Kohli he scored 92 runs in the powerplay, the highest for RCB in the tournament’s history. Former South Africa skipper Dean Elgar has blamed head coach Shukri Conrad for his career being cut short. Elgar, who played 86 Tests for the Proteas, retired after the two-Test series against India in January earlier this year. Elgar currently plays for the English county team Essex.

"Shukri Conrad is the reason why my Test career was cut short," said Elgar in an interview to newspaper Rapport.

"It felt as though they did not recognise all my hard work over the previous year-and-a-half, that they didn’t realise how much we had improved as a team," he added on being replaced as the Test skipper with Temba Bavuma.

Elgar also said that the environment wasn't conducive and hence his form took a dive as well. Elgar captained South Africa in 18 Tests and scored 849 runs at an average of 26 against his all time average of 38.

"I became a part-time cricketer and full-time politician, something that I never want to go through again. I am a sportsman, not a politician or a cricket administrator, but I was thrown into a cauldron in which I had to be all three. If I had known that before, I would never have accepted the captaincy."

"I tried to make the best of a bad job, to control the things I could control. But my own form took a dive," he said.

He also noted that there was no acknowledgement for his efforts as skipper despite his team "from being sixth or seventh in the world we became a team with the potential to play in the World Test championship final".&nbsp;

Elgar ended his career with 5,347 runs in whites to go with 14 hundreds and 23 fifties. He, however, could not manage to score even a single double hundred in his career with 199 being his best score in an innings.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowler Harshal Patel has revealed that he didn't celebrate after picking MS Dhoni's wicket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to the enormous respect he has&nbsp;for the former Indian captain. The right-arm seamer got rid of Dhoni with a cleverly disguised slower delivery that outfoxed the veteran who had to depart on a golden duck.&nbsp;

The CSK batter arrived at the crease in the 19th over of the innings, with the crowd at the&nbsp;HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala going berserk. However, much to their disappointment, Patel had the upper hand in the battle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Definitely bit on the drier side, we felt that and even when we hit on the hard length, it wasn't going as fast as we were bowling, it's not stopping but definitely a slower one. (On MS's dismissal) I have too much respect for him to celebrate when I get him out," said Patel in the mid-innings show.&nbsp;

Quizzed how he was able to extract such movement out of the pitch, Patel said the ball was reversing.&nbsp;

"One of the advantages of day game is, the square is quite rough, when I came into bowl the first, the ball started reversing and it drifted away a bit and it made things harder for the batter. I was not really confident with those, initially I haven't been bowling for over a year but I've been working on it, there's no technique to it but when it comes out, it's good as the batters mostly don't pick it."

Fans had a field day trolling the Pakistan men's cricket team after their newly appointed white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, held the first meeting with the players via video conferencing. The South African is currently in India, working for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Gujarat Titans as the batting coach.&nbsp;

While Kirsten connected through the video call, the Pakistani players could be seen present in the conference room, taking note of what their new coach was instructing.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), posted a video of the meeting on its social media handles which instantly led to mass trolling, as some suggested that Pakistan team might start playing 'online cricket'.&nbsp;

"How do players learn from a coach through a laptop screen?" said one user, while another commented: "Only in Pakistan. A WFH coach for the national team."

A third added: "There was a man called MICKEY ARTHUR who was the ONLINE ZOOM coach of Pakistan Cricket. That was the ruining moment of Pakistan Cricket. Hopefully Gary Kirsten will join the team soon. Most likely in ENG series."

Under Kirsten, Pakistan will be eager to take giant strides in&nbsp;limited-overs format. They had a miserable run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, where they failed to make it beyond the group stage of the tournament.&nbsp;

The South African's first major assignment will be the 2024 T20 World Cup, where one-time winners Pakistan is in Group A along with India, Canada, USA and Ireland.

Kirsten won the 50-over World Cup with India in 2011, while managing a roster full of stars. His big challenge with Pakistan, however, remains managing the fragile egos within the team and the upper PCB hierarchy.&nbsp;

‘Play cricket online’: PCB trolled as new head coach Gary Kirsten addresses Pakistan team through video call

In what comes as a big blow to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), their strike pace bowler, Matheesha Pathirana, will return to Sri Lanka as he recovers from a hamstring injury.&nbsp;CSK will be without the services of Pathirana, nicknamed 'Baby Malinga' by the fanbase, as the tournament heads into its business end.&nbsp;

The five-time champions have endured an inconsistent season but Pathirana has been one of the few bright spots - often bailing out the team from dire situations.&nbsp;The right-arm pacer played six matches in IPL 2024 picking up 13 wickets at an economy rate&nbsp;of 7.68.

"Chennai Super Kings pacer Matheesha Pathirana is nursing a hamstring injury and will be returning to Sri Lanka for further recovery," the franchise informed.

Though CSK are placed 4th in the IPL 2024 points table, with five&nbsp;wins in 10 games, the final run of four&nbsp;games could be tricky for them without the support of some of the star players.

The franchise didn't inform if Pathirana will be returning for the playoffs, which start on May 21 with the first qualifier between the top two teams, scheduled at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.&nbsp;

<h2>A depleted CSK squad&nbsp;</h2>

In the lead-up to the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday (May 5), head coach Stephen Fleming had provided a grim outlook of the squad. CSK are already without the services of an injured Deepak Chahar while Mustafizur Rahman has returned to Bangladesh due to national team commitments.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Deepak Chahar doesn't look good. Initial feeling wasn't great. So we are waiting for more positive report. Physio and doctors will have a look. Sri Lankan boys are off to get visa. So we are hoping that their process is smooth. And we get them back for our next game up north (at Dharamshala)," said Fleming earlier this week.&nbsp;

"Tushar Deshpande got flu, so we had to make a few changes today, which is a bit unusual. But again that's part of it and we have got resources. It's just they haven't got time to be comfortable about their roles and us to be comfortable with the game plan that we are struggling with," Fleming added.

In what comes as a big blow to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), their strike pace bowler, Matheesha Pathirana, will return to Sri Lanka as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

In what comes as a big blow to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), their strike pace bowler, Matheesha Pathirana, will return to Sri Lanka as he recovers from a hamstring injury. CSK will be without the services of Pathirana, nicknamed 'Baby Malinga' by the fanbase, as the tournament heads into its business end. The five-time champions have endured an inconsistent season but Pathirana has been one of the few bright spots - often bailing out the team from dire situations. The right-arm pacer played six matches in IPL 2024 picking up 13 wickets at an economy rate of 7.68. "Chennai Super Kings pacer Matheesha Pathirana is nursing a hamstring injury and will be returning to Sri Lanka for further recovery," the franchise informed. IPL 2024: Big BLOW for CSK as star bowler returns home due to injury

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Mayank Yadav might not be able to play in the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, said head coach Justin Langer on Saturday (May 4). Mayank left the game against Mumbai Indians earlier this week due to soreness in the same spot which had forced him to miss five games after playing just three game post his debut on March 30.

"He's had a scan. He's got a small tear in a similar area to where his last one was. So it's very unfortunate. We saw the impact he had when he came back into the game. But we can all sleep," Langer said.

"There will always be a lot of discussion about fast bowlers, and I know he spoke to [Jasprit] Bumrah after the game and he reassured him that if he's going to be a fast bowler, part of his journey as a young fast bowler, he's going to get injuries," he added.

Mayank had set the IPL ablaze with his raw pace, taking six wickets in the first two games, against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He sent most of his deliveries north of 155-kmph mark - a rarity anywhere in the world. He also became the first to win Player of the Match awards in his first two IPL games.

The 21-year-old, however, hit a setback after that and missed the next five games due to pain in abdomen.

Speaking on his chances to play, Langer said: "We'll be praying that he can play, hopefully, in the playoffs, but I'm a realist as well. It'll be probably difficult for him to get up for the back-end of the tournament."

As for LSG, they are currently placed third on the 10-team points table with six wins from the 10 games they have played. Out of the remaining four games, they play against KKR at home before three away games against SRH, DC and MI.

IPL 2024: LSG speedster Mayank Yadav out of tournament with injury? Here’s what coach Justin Langer said

Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowling coach Sunil Joshi has confirmed that captain Shikhar Dhawan will miss the side’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) contest against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday as he continues his rehab. Dhawan has not played for PBKS since his&nbsp;side’s&nbsp;narrow defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 9 and continues to struggle with a shoulder injury. PBKS will be hoping for a win on Sunday,&nbsp;which will keep&nbsp;their Playoff hopes alive.

<h2>Shikhar Dhawan to miss CSK clash</h2>

“Shikhar, he’s under rehab, for&nbsp;this&nbsp;game&nbsp;he isn’t available and is being monitored closely. Hopefully, he should be back for the last two games,” said Joshi in the pre-match press conference.

Dhawan&nbsp;so far&nbsp;has scored 252 runs from five innings at an average of 30.40 and a strike rate of 125.61 with one fifty to his name. In his absence, Sam Curran has been handed the captain’s armband with hardly any change in fortune for the North Indian side. They&nbsp;will be hoping&nbsp;to have a change in fortune when they move to their second home in Dharamsala on Sunday&nbsp;which&nbsp;will host its first match of the IPL 2024 season.&nbsp;

Despite Dhawan’s absence, the likes of Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh have made a name for themselves&nbsp;having&nbsp;led the charge with the bat.&nbsp;

Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma played as Impact Sub in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 3 due to back stiffness. The information was confirmed by his teammate Piyush Chawla at the post-match presentation.

"He just had a mild back stiffness so it was just a precautionary thing," Chawla said.

It was another sad day in the field for the five-time champions as they lost their eighth game&nbsp;out of 11 played this season so far. The loss meant that MI are now hanging by a thread to make it to the playoffs. The only silver lining for MI in the match was Chawla overtaking Dwayne Bravo to become the second highest wicket taker in the league.

Talking about the milestone, Chawla said: &nbsp;"It has been a beautiful journey because IPL started 17 years back and at that time nobody gave that much preference to the spinners, but now if you see that in top few wicket-takers from India are all the spinners, [R] Ashwin, Yuzi [Yuzvendra Chahal], myself, so it's a good feeling."

As for the season, the spinner had no illusions about where the team stands and what's left to play for in the rest of the season: "For the pride and the reputation," he said, "because sometimes when you enter on the field, you don't think whether you are going to qualify or you are not going to qualify. You have to play for your name and that's what we are playing for."

In the match, KKR posted a modest 169 on a two-paced Wankhede pitch, thanks largely to Venkatesh Iyer's 70 off 52 and Manish Pandey's 31-ball 42.

Chasing the total, MI was never in the hunt except during Suryakumar Yadav's 35-ball 56-run innings. They were eventually bowled out for 145, losing the match by 24 runs.

India have lost their top position in the latest men's Test team rankings, issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday (May 3). Australia,&nbsp;the reigning World Test champions, usurped the top spot from India who retained their numero uno ranking in ODI&nbsp;and T20Is.&nbsp;

Led by Pat Cummins, Australia beat India in the WTC final at Lord's last year, winning their first ICC silverware in the format. The win helped Australia (124) gain&nbsp;four points over India (120) while remaining 19 points clear of third-placed England (105).

India mainly slipped in the rankings as their 2-1 series win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia was chalked out of consideration.&nbsp;

Notably, the latest rankings have been formulated by the ICC with respect to the closing of the previous WTC cycle in May 2021. Match results from May 2021 to May 2023 have 50 per cent weightage while results post May 2023 have 100 per cent weightage.&nbsp;

Only nine teams are now ranked as Afghanistan and Ireland are yet to play sufficient Tests, while Zimbabwe too is out as it has played only three Tests over the past three years.

India have lost their top position in the latest men's Test team rankings, issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday (May 3). Australia, the reigning World Test champions, usurped the top spot from India who retained their numero uno ranking in ODI and T20Is. Led by Pat Cummins, Australia beat India in the WTC final at Lord's last year, winning their first ICC silverware in the format. The win helped Australia (124) gain four points over India (120) while remaining 19 points clear of third-placed England (105). India mainly slipped in the rankings as their 2-1 series win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia was chalked out of consideration. Notably, the latest rankings have been formulated by the ICC with respect to the closing of the previous WTC cycle in May 2021. Match results from May 2021 to May 2023 have 50 per cent weightage while results post May 2023 have 100 per cent weightage. Only nine teams are now ranked as Afghanistan and Ireland are yet to play sufficient Tests, while Zimbabwe too is out as it has played only three Tests over the past three years. Latest ICC rankings: Australia topple India to usurp top spot in Tests

Former Indian chief selector Kris Srikkanth has lashed out at the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee for picking out-of-form Shubman Gill over Ruturaj Gaikwad in India's 15-man T20 World Cup squad. On Tuesday (April 30), the BCCI announced India's squad which features Rohit Sharma as the captain along with regulars such as Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, etc.

Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson were also named in the main squad with Gill, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh part of&nbsp;the reserves list. This has not been well received by Srikkanth -- India's 1983 World Cup-winning member -- as he feels Gill is completely out of form in the ongoing IPL 2024 edition, contrary to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Gaikwad.

So far, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Gill has 320 runs in 10 games at an average of&nbsp;35.56. Meanwhile, Gaikwad is the top run-getter with 509 runs -- at 63.63 and a strike-rate of&nbsp;146.68 with 4 fifties and a hundred. Thus, Srikkanth feels it wasn't fair to overlook the CSK captain's purple patch and claimed that&nbsp;selection is 'all about favouritism'.

<h2>'Gill is selectors' delight, team selection is all about favouritism'</h2>

Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel 'Cheeky Chekka', "Shubman Gill is totally out of form, but why he's selected in the team. There's no doubt that Ruturaj Gaikwad deserves a place. He scored more than 500 runs in 17 innings. Also he scored a century against Australia. Shubman Gill is selectors' delight. He gets chance even if he fails. He finds place even if he fails in Test, ODIs and T20s.There's too much of favoritism in selection. The team selection is all about favouritism."

Srikkanth even slammed the selectors for not including Rinku in the main squad, despite a strike-rate of 176.23 in 15 T20Is.&nbsp;

In this regard, he added, "I am not at all happy. C'mon all of you. Rinku Singh has been spoken about all over the world. He has performed in each and every opportunity he has got. How can you drop Rinku Singh? You drop anyone else, it doesn't matter. In my view, Rinku Singh should have been there, even if that meant you had to drop Yashasvi Jaiswal."

India are in Group A along with arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, USA and Canada and begin their campaign versus Ireland on June 5, in New York.

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has named India favourites for the 2024 T20 World Cup&nbsp;to&nbsp;be played in the West Indies and the USA in June. On Tuesday (April 30), the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, named India's 15-man squad which saw the return of Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant with Sanju Samson also getting a look-in. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube also got included whereas&nbsp;KL Rahul was dropped.

Rinku Singh, who has been India's finisher in the format in the recent past, was not part of the main squad but has been named in the reserves list. Speaking on Rohit Sharma-led India&nbsp;squad, Sangakkara -- who is currently serving as Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach in IPL 2024 -- lauded the squad and made a big claim.

Sanga, ahead of RR's away game versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday (May 2), said in Hyderabad, "It's (India) an extremely strong squad. They've got their batting covered, they've got their all-rounders in. They've got very high-quality spin and they've got very good combinations that they can play."

Speaking on India's team combination, Sanga elaborated, "Knowing the conditions there, I'm sure Rahul (Dravid) and Rohit (Sharma) have a good idea of what the squad should be to play the cricket they want in the World Cup. And they'll be having two or three different combinations, depending on whether they want a deeper batting line-up or more strength in their bowling. Indian men's cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has refused to divulge the decision behind including four spinners in the T20 World Cup squad. Sharma alongside BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media in Mumbai on Thursday (May 2), a little over 48 hours after the squad was first announced.&nbsp;

During the press conference, Rohit said it was on his insistence that the selectors picked four spinners.&nbsp;

"I don't want to go too much into detail on it, I'm sure opposition captains are listening to thisI definitely wanted four spinners. We've&nbsp;played a lot of cricket there [West Indies], we know what the conditions are like.&nbsp;The match probably starts at 10-10:30 in the morning. There is a little bit of technical aspect involved in this," said Rohit.&nbsp;

"Maybe in the first press conference when I do in the West Indies, I'll give more detail on this. I am not going to say it in public&nbsp;now but I'll definitely say it there," he added.&nbsp;

India have picked two wrist spinners in Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal while&nbsp;left-arm spin allrounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel form the other half of the spin quartet. However, the decision to go with four spinners has&nbsp;drawn the ire of fans who questioned if Rinku Singh's place was compromised due to Rohit's belief.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I wanted four spinners for sure. With two of the spinners being allrounders who can bat, Axar and Jadeja, and two attacking spinners - Kuldeep and Chahal - it gives you the balance in the spin department. Based on the team composition of the opposition we can decide what we want to play with," Rohit further explained.&nbsp;

<h2>Agarkar explains Rinku's exclusion</h2>

Quizzed about Rinku's exclusion from the squad, Agarkar reiterated that he wanted to give ample spin bowling options to Rohit for the slow decks in the West Indies.&nbsp;

"Toughest thing we have had to do. He [Rinku]&nbsp;has done nothing wrong or for that matter Shubman Gill. It is about the combination...we are not sure about the conditions we will get," said Agarkar.

"We wanted to try and have enough options. There are&nbsp;a couple of wrist spinners included - Chahal and Kuldeep to give Rohit more options. Axar, again, a batting allrounder or rather bowling allrounder," he added.&nbsp;

'I won't say in public': Rohit Sharma keeps mum on picking four spinners for T20 WC

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media on Thursday (May 2) regarding the squad picked for the T20 World Cup,&nbsp;scheduled to get underway in the West Indies and USA next month. Quizzed about the controversial exclusion of Rinku Singh, Agarkar said it was the 'toughest' decision he has had to take and that Rinku had nothing wrong to deserve the snub.&nbsp;

The fans and former cricketers have been fuming ever since Rinku was dropped from the squad, despite having proven&nbsp;his worth in the shortest format of the game, whenever given a chance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Toughest thing we have had to do. He [Rinku]&nbsp;has done nothing wrong or for that matter Shubman Gill. It is about the combination...we are not sure about the conditions we will get," said Agarkar.&nbsp;

"We wanted to try and have enough options. There are&nbsp;a couple of wrist spinners included - Chahal and Kuldeep to give Rohit more options. Axar, again, a batting allrounder or rather bowling allrounder," he added.&nbsp;

Agarkar, who donned the Indian jersey in four T20Is said it was unfortunate that Rinku missed out on the WC flight.&nbsp;

"It&nbsp;is just unfortunate, I don't think it has anything to do with Rinku. It is not his ball that he has&nbsp;missed out," said Agarkar.&nbsp;

"He is still one of the travelling subs, that's how close he was. I know it can be a little bit tough on him but at the end of the day, you can only pick 15."

Addressing concerns about why four spinners were included in the squad when one of the places could have gone to Rinku, Rohit cleared that he wanted four spinners in the squad.

"I wanted four spinners. The match starts at 10 in the morning and there is little technical aspect involved. I won't give the entire reason for it," said Rohit.&nbsp;

<h2>Fans furious</h2>

Ever since making his debut for the Indian team in the T20 format, Rinku has been one of the most consistent batters.&nbsp;In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Rinku has scored 356 runs at an enviable average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24.&nbsp;

Despite the stats backing Rinku's ability,&nbsp;the selectors opted to go with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube as the preferred finishers, primarily due to their bowling abilities.

"We want someone in the middle over to play that role [hitting big]&nbsp;and play&nbsp;freely and we picked Dube based on what he's done in IPL. We spoke about it and selected but our playing XI isn't guaranteed," said Rohit on Dube's selection.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On Wednesday (May 1), Rinku's father, Khanchandra Singh,&nbsp; revealed that his son was heartbroken after being excluded from the squad.&nbsp;

<h2>Australia drop Smith</h2>

A veteran member of the squad in the last decade, Smith was dropped in favour of Cameron Green&nbsp;who&nbsp;will play as an extra&nbsp;all-rounder, while Ashton Agar&nbsp;has also been picked&nbsp;for the showpiece event in the USA and the West Indies. National team selector and former player George Bailey cleared the air on the situation, stating the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Green are better suited to the winning conditions. &nbsp;

"We believe Ashton can play a critical role in this tournament along with Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Cam Green and Mitch Marsh in complementing our front-line attack options," Bailey said.

"The batting options available allow a tailored approach to each venue and opponent."

Mitchell Marsh will lead the 15-member pack&nbsp;in the USA, having&nbsp;first led during the South Africa tour in September 2023.&nbsp;According to Cricket Australia, Marsh is fit and will lead the side despite being unfit and&nbsp;not available&nbsp;for Delhi Capitals during the Indian Premier League. His colleague at DC, Fraser-&nbsp;McGurk&nbsp;was unfortunate to miss out despite being one of the standout players in the IPL 2024.&nbsp;

T20 World Cup 2024: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Steve Smith left out of Australia squad; Mitchell Marsh to lead

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube has revealed that a chat with India skipper Rohit Sharma during the Afghanistan T20I series in January earlier this year gave him indication of his T20 World Cup 2024 selection. Dube, on April 30, was named in the 15-man India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.&nbsp;

"When I got picked for the Afghanistan series, Rohit [Sharma] bhai told me I will [get a chance to] bowl and bat as well," Dube said in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

"He asked 'show us what you can do.' If the captain tells you we want to see you do this, you feel motivated to express yourself. My only thought then was how I could perform and help the team win," Dube added.

Dube had made his debut for India in 2019 but had fallen out of favour because of a string of poor performances. He, however, came back into the limelight, thanks to a stellar season with the CSK in IPL 2023. He smashed 418 runs in the title-winning season at a strike rate of 158 in 16 matches.

Dube also credited his rise to CSK set up and said: "When I came into the CSK setup, Mahi [MS Dhoni] bhai and [Stephen] Fleming told me that you have to hit. But they never said it has to be from the first ball. They know doing that can be risky. In my mind, I knew that they have the faith in me, so why should I take needless risks in my first 10 balls?

His first match after the India T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection, however, didn't go as planned. Dube was dismissed for a first ball duck against the Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 on May 1.
