Meanwhile, chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the state government has begun integrating allopathy and Ayurveda to treat coronavirus patients.

"We project that economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa will decline from 2.4 percent in 2019 to -2.1 to -5.1 percent in 2020, the first recession in the region in 25 years," the World Bank said.

The African Development Bank had said earlier that it has created a $10 billion emergency fund to help the countries in the region fight the pandemic.

"Africa is facing enormous fiscal challenges to respond to the coronavirus pandemic effectively. The African Development Bank Group is deploying its full weight of emergency response support to assist Africa at this critical time," the bank's president Akinwumi Adesina said.

According to the African bank, $5.5 billion will be set aside for African Development Bank countries, and $3.1 billion for sovereign and regional operations for countries under the African Development Fund.

The coronavirus sweeping the world hasn't gained a major foothold in Africa but authorities fear that some of the poorest countries in the world which constitute the sub-Saharan region may face large scale social and medical upheaval if the virus enters those countries causing widespread damage triggering mass unrest.

"The prime minister had a good night and continues to improve in intensive care at St Thomas' Hospital. He's in good spirits," Johnson's official spokesman said.

"Supplies of PPEs, masks, and ventilators have now begun. Twenty domestic manufacturers in India have been working for PPEs," the health ministry official Lav Aggarwal said, adding," orders for 1.7 crore PPEs have been placed and the supplies have begun. "

According to the health ministry, Railways have deployed more than 2,500 doctors and 35,000 paramedics staff.&nbsp;

"The chain of 586 health units, 45 sub-divisional hospitals, 56 divisional hospitals, eight production unit hospitals and 16 zonal hospitals are dedicating their significant facilities to fight the virus," the health ministry declared.

During the press conference, the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) said that 1,30,000 samples have been tested so far with 5,734 samples testing positive.

"Positivity rate ranges between 3-5 per cent in the last 1-1.5 months. It has not increased substantially. On Wednesday, we tested 13,143 samples," the ICMR official said.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said 779 people had died in the last 24 hours adding that the numbers "seem to stabilizing".

731 people had died due to COVID-19 a day earlier. New York has now recorded 6,268 deaths due to the deadly virus.

The United States has recorded over 12,800 deaths so far with at least 400,000 infected with the virus.

"We are flattening the curve," Governor Cuomo said while asserting that that social confinement orders were working. Cuomo said the death toll was high because people put on ventilators when hospitalization rates were high in previous weeks were now passing away.

"It's not a time to get complacent. It's not a time to do anything different than where we've been doing," Cuomo said, adding,"&nbsp;We are in the midst of it. We're not through it. It's not over."

Meanwhile, Wall Street stocks opened on a high on Wednesday amid the death toll numbers and hopes of measures of propping up the economy. &nbsp;The Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 22,939.55, up 1.3 per cent in early trade.

There was a line of passengers at the airport too. For the people of Wuhan, the threat is far from over. Almost all of them were wearing a mask. Some were in protective suits, even with face shields. These passengers were desperate to leave Wuhan.&nbsp;

Passenger Wang Wenshu travelling home to see her parents, said: "I haven't been out since January 21. this is the first time I left the house today. Now I'm going back home to meet my parents."

The Wuhan story remains a mystery for the world as photographs from the city show thousands of urns being delivered to funeral homes. A report in Caixin magazine quotes a truck driver, who allegedly delivered five thousand urns. Another report says seven crematoriums in the city were handing out 3,500 urns per day but, it remains unclear if these deaths were due to the coronavirus.

Critics of the Chinese government have been&nbsp;demanding an independent investigation by an international agency. China may be opening up Wuhan for its citizens but, it won't open its doors to international investigators.
