Nissan Motor Co&nbsp;has blasted suggestions in media reports of a conspiracy within the company to oust former chairman Carlos Ghosn.

Ghosn's 2018 arrest in Japan on financial misconduct charges has led to much speculation that the move was orchestrated by Nissan executives who opposed closer ties with partner Renault SA.

"I know that in books and the media there has been talk about a conspiracy but there are no facts whatsoever to support this," Motoo Nagai, chairman of Nissan's auditing committee, told shareholders at the company's annual general meeting.

Responding to demands from a shareholder to address the speculation, Nagai argued that the investigation into Ghosn was conducted both internally and by outside law firms.

Monday's meeting lasted almost two hours - twice as long as planned, as shareholders grilled Chief Executive Makoto Uchida on how he planned to restore trust in the company following the Ghosn scandal, and revive sales in the United States and China.

Uchida, who took the helm in December, told shareholders he would stick to his promise to step down as leader if he fails to deliver on a turnaround plan for the Japanese automaker, which last month reported its first annual loss in 11 years.

Seeking to slash costs and downsize after years of excessive spending in the pursuit of market share, Nissan plans to cut its model range by about a fifth and reduce production capacity, shuttering plants in Spain and Indonesia and laying off workers in countries including Mexico.

It now aims to sell 5 million vehicles a year, far fewer than past ambitions of 8 million.

The research showed that the region had undergone warming of more than 1.83 C since 1989 worrying nature experts. The study found that warm ocean temperatures had over the decades lowered atmospheric pressure over the Weddell Sea in the southern Atlantic leading to the incease in the flow of warm air directly over the South Pole.

The researchers attributed the change in climate at the South Pole to the phenomenon known as the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation (IPO) when the cycle lasts for about 15-30 years oscillating between "positive" and "negative" state.

Nature said: "These results underscore the intimate linkage of interior Antarctic climate to tropical variability," while adding,"this study shows that atmospheric internal variability can induce extreme regional climate change over the Antarctic interior, which has masked anthropogenic warming signal there during the twenty-first century."

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that 195 COVID-19 cases were reported in Guwahati in the last 24 hours with the total number of cases in the state rising to 7492. There are 2,390 active cases and 11 deaths reported in the state so far with 327 new coronavirus cases detected in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;

In Chhattisgarh, 84 new coronavirus cases were reported with the total number of cases rising to 2,964 including 619 active cases. There have been 13 deaths due to the virus in the state.

Over 3 lakh COVID-19 patients cured, recovery rate at 58%: Health ministry

China's foreign ministry said on Monday that it has "decided to impose visa restrictions against American individuals who have behaved egregiously on matters concerning Hong Kong."

The move comes after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo imposed visa restrictions on Chinese officials over infringement of Hong Kong autonomy.

China had said last week that "no one has any legal grounds or right to make irresponsible comments on Hong Kong affairs" as the Trump administration moved to restrict visas against Chinese officials.

China is set to pass the Hong Kong security law after the law-making committee discussed the bill on Sunday. Hong Kong has been at the epicentre of pro-democracy protests since last year. Protesters have demanded greater autonomy from the local government even as China has moved ahead with the new security law.

The EU backing the US move had said that China would face "very negative consequences" if it passed the national security bill.

The Chinese committee, however, is set to adopt the security law within days, reports said. China had earlier announced the draft of the national security law which would effectively bypass Hong Kong's legislature to tackle "terrorism" and "separatism".
