Soon, it was speculated that renaming the country was part of the agenda of the upcoming Special Session of Parliament.

PM Modi reacts to India-Bharat row; asks Council of Ministers to refrain from the debate

A dangerous murderer escaped a Pennsylvania prison by climbing between the walls, the same way another inmate scaled them earlier this year to get away, officials say. The killer, named Danelo Cavalacante, 34, escaped from the Chester County Prison on August 31.

The police officials released the footage of Cavalacante escaping the prison in broad daylight by crab-walking up between two walls separated by a 5 ft (1.5m) hallway.

Earlier this year, another inmate also fled the prison using the same hallway. Officials say razor wire was installed after the previous escape, but clearly, it was not effective.

Double escape

When on May 19, a prison inmate Igor Bolte escaped the Chester County Prison, the officials said at a news conference that they hired security consultants to review the building and make it more escape-proof.

The consultants had “identified an insufficiency”, said Acting Warden Howard Holland, and razor wire was installed to keep other inmates from using the same exit route.

"While we believed our security methods were sufficient, they were proven otherwise. And we will move quickly to enhance our security measures," said Holland.

Navelo Cavalcante ‘crab walked’ the wall

Cavalcante was sentenced to life imprisonment last month after being found guilty of brutally stabbing ex-girlfriend Deborah Brando to death in April 2021 in front of her two infants.

Footage shows how he “crab walked up a wall, through razor wire”, Holland said on Wednesday. Cavalcante placed his hands on one wall and his feet on another to push his way upwards.

After reaching the roof, both inmates could climb down a ladder to a less secure part of the prison.

What is even more ironic is that at the time of the escape, just before 9: 00 am local time, there was a corrections officer in the observation tower. But the officer apparently failed to monitor the security feed, unlike in the May case when the inmate was caught only five minutes after escaping once he was spotted on video monitors.

The officer who was assigned to oversee Yard C when Cavalcante got away has been placed on administrative leave and is under investigation by the state's attorney general.

On Monday, authorities began using helicopters and patrol cars to blast an audio message recorded by Cavalcante's mother in Brazil, in which she calls on him to surrender.

A $20,000 (£16,000) reward is being offered for any information on him.

Allahabad High Court has ruled in a recent case that an inter-faith couple is at liberty to live together and their family members have no right to interfere in their life. The High Court ordered, “no person, including their parents or anyone acting on their behalf, shall be permitted to interfere in their peaceful live-in relationship”.

The bench of Justice Surendra Singh stated that if the couple’s life is hindered or disturbed by any of their family member, they must approach the Superintendent of Police, with a copy of the High Court’s decision for immediate protection.

Right to Life and Personal Liberty guaranteed under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India

Referring to the rulings of the Supreme Court, the single judge bench said, “…it is clear that a boy or girl, who have attained majority, is free to marry or live with a person of his/her choice and no one including his/her parents or anyone on their behalf can interfere in their right to freedom of choosing a partner which emanates from Right to Life and Personal Liberty guaranteed under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India."

The court also rejected the argument put forth by the state counsel that a division bench decision of the High Court in Kiran Rawat and another vs. State of Uttar Pradesh case (2023) declined to provide protection to couples residing together in a live-in relationship.

The court stated that a perusal of the judgment in that case revealed that the court had not ruled that the couple existing in a live-in relationship was not entitled to court protection. Rather, the court denied the couple's protection due to the special circumstances of that case.

The order was passed in response to a plea by an interfaith couple seeking a Mandamus writ (or order) directing the private respondent not to interfere with their peaceful living.

The petitioner’s attorney claimed that both petitioners were adults who were living together peacefully of their own free will in a live-in relationship. The lawyer informed the court that the girl’s mother and her family members were opposed to the petitioner’s live-in relationship and were harassing and threatening them.

According to the counsel, the girl's mother had threatened the couple with dire consequences, thus they were afraid of honour killing from her family members.

Not even parents can interfere in children's right to stay in live-in relationship: Allahabad HC

A team of deep-sea explorers found a rather strange object at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Science enthusiasts are calling it a ‘spooky golden egg’.

According to a report in the Miami Herald, scientists found the so-called golden egg off the coast of Southern Alaska on August 30. The shiny object appeared to have a hole in one side where a creature may have hatched, suggested explorers from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) last week.

The team of explorers found this shiny golden orb when they were exploring an extinct volcano during the Seascape Alaska 5 expedition, at about a depth of two miles.

Efforts to unravel the mystery of the ‘golden egg’ continue

In an attempt to unravel the mystery behind the ‘golden egg’, a team of oceanographers delicately extracted a sample, initially anticipating something eerie concealed within the golden shell. However, what emerged was nothing short of a strange texture resembling silk rather than the expected gelatinous substance.

Samples were then carefully collected in tubes and taken to a laboratory for analysis.

“I just hope when we poke it, something doesn’t decide to come out,” a marine scientist said. “It’s like the beginning of a horror movie. When our collective knowledge can’t identify it, it’s something weird. What kind of an animal would make an egg casing like that?”

The unearthing of the ‘spooky golden egg’ not only interests experts but has also generated curiosity in online communities, drawing comparisons to scenarios right out of an X-files episode.

Kerry Howell, a professor of deep-sea ecology at the University of Plymouth, told the Mail Online that the object is “weird”.

“In my 20 years exploring the deep sea I have not seen anything like that,” she said. “It’s always exciting to see new things and I will wait eagerly for the analysis of the sample to understand what it actually is.”

Efforts to unravel the mystery of the ‘golden egg’ continue In an attempt to unravel the mystery behind the ‘golden egg’, a team of oceanographers delicately extracted a sample, initially anticipating something eerie concealed within the golden shell. However, what emerged was nothing short of a strange texture resembling silk rather than the expected gelatinous substance. Samples were then carefully collected in tubes and taken to a laboratory for analysis. A Ukrainian orphaned boy adopted by an American couple seven years back, brutally murdered his own adoptive parents. Dima Tower, 21, was adopted from a prison-like Ukrainian orphanage by Robbie and Jennifer Tower.

Dima allegedly stabbed his adoptive parents in their home in North Port, Florida on Friday, before he led cops on an eight-hour manhunt that ended with his arrest on Saturday morning.

The Christian missionary couple, who also worked as real estate agents in the area, were found on their living room floor lying head-to-head surrounded by blood, as per the local news outlet WinkNews. The living room was splattered with blood.

“These were two really good, caring people,” Robbie Tower’s uncle, Warren Rines, told New York Post. “It just makes no sense, none of us understand the hate. They were the only two people in his life who ever tried to help him. They treated him like their own son.”

Why did the 21-year-old kill his ‘caring’ adoptive parents?

Dima reportedly lost his mother as a child and his alcoholic father abandoned him. He was adopted by the couple seven years back.

After killing the couple, Dima escaped in a car and eventually ran afoot, entering the dense woods. Authorities were able to take him into custody after an eight-hour manhunt.

As per Warren, Jennifer and Robbie were both religious and went on Christian missions to Ukraine. The couple was unable to have a child of their own, so they adopted Dima.

“He would have bruises on him in the orphanage,” Warren said. “When they went out to eat, he would have like six hot dogs. He wasn’t getting a lot to eat. These orphanages are like prison for kids.”

The couple believed that with love and care, Dima would overcome his past trauma. When in Florida, Dima found it difficult to get accustomed to his new surroundings, and would get into fights at school.

“I think the boy just had a lot of hate in him already before he came here. And I guess you take it out on the ones closest to you,” he said.

Tea is an integral part of Indian homes. Everybody enjoys their own kind of tea with their favourite snack. But there are some food items that, when are combined with tea, can have harmful effects on your health.

Foods that are high in acid content, such as citrus fruits, can interfere with the absorption of catechins (antioxidants) found in tea.

Tea has compounds known as tannins and oxalates which can inhibit the absorption of iron. Combining green vegetables with tea can prevent the absorption of iron in the body.

Foods that are highly seasoned, spicy or strong-flavoured can overpower the delicate flavour of tea, making it difficult to fully appreciate the tea’s aroma and taste.

Eating nuts with tea can have hazardous effects on health. The compound called tannin present in tea can block the absorption of nutrients when taken with nuts.

Eating ‘pakoras’ (fritters) or ‘namkeen’ with tea can have side effects on your health. It can lead to digestive issues that can cause constipation and acidity.

5 Food Items to Avoid with Tea

Absconding parents of Sara Sharif, 10-year-old girl found dead in her home, released a video claiming they are willing to co-operate with British authorities.

Sara’s body was found at her home in Woking, Surrey on August 10. Since then, Surrey Police have been after girl’s father Urfan Sharif, 41, and her stepmother Beinash Batool, 29, in relation to a murder investigation. The couple travelled to Pakistan from the United Kingdom on August 9 and police have been unable to locate them.

Recent lab tests in the United States suggest that the currently circulating COVID-19 variant BA.2.86 is less contagious as our immune system is able to fight it off better. The results were deduced by two teams of US scientists that tested the antibodies from vaccinated and infected Americans in a lab experiment.

When it comes to variant BA.2.86, which is also known as Pirola, our immune systems can recognise and fight off this variant better than the circulating offshoots of the XBB variant.

The BA.2.86 variant is descended from a different Omicron variant. A total of 29 cases of COVID-19 have been detected with BA.2.86 across four continents, but experts suspect it is more widespread.

What do lab tests suggest?

The lab tests suggest that people who had the most robust responses against BA.2.86 were those who were within six months of an infection with the XBB subvariant. This further suggests that updated COVID-19 vaccines, which are designed to fight off XBB 1.5, will provide added protection against a range of circulating COVID-19 lineages, including BA.2.86.

“Two independent labs have basically shown that BA.2.86 essentially is not a further immune escape compared with current variants,” Dr. Dan Barouch, director of the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and leader of one of the labs, told CNN.

Their results align with earlier experiments by labs in China and Sweden. Taken together, the data suggests that BA.2.86 will not be as troublesome as experts had feared. In short, this one seems to be a “scariant.”

FL.1.5.1: Another fast-growing variant

Another variant, FL.1.5.1, which is causing an estimated 15 per cent of new COVID-19 infections in the US has a different story. This fast-growing descendant of the XBB recombinant variant has a constellation of mutations that have raised concerns among the variant trackers. In lab testing, it was the most immune-evasive.

“If there wasn’t so much hype about BA.2.86, that would actually be the focus of the paper,” Barouch said.

How these lab tests were conducted?

Barouch and his team used pseudoviruses. They built the spikes of the BA.2.86 virus and attached them to the body of a different virus.

Then they took plasma from the blood of 66 Americans who had been vaccinated with monovalent vaccines only, who had gotten bivalent vaccines, or who had recently recovered from an XBB infection. Then they tested these samples to know how well their antibodies neutralised 10 Omicron subvariants, including BA.2.86.
