Ayurveda recognises winter as a kapha season with strong vata undertones. It is characterised by cold weather, a sense of heaviness, increased moisture, cloudy days, and the grounded, slow feeling that sends many animals into hibernation.

A little extra sleep on a winter morning does no harm. Starting your day a bit late in winter is permissible by Ayurveda, as you feel fresher and more motivated if you wake up after 7 am on a chilled winter morning.

Drinking a glass of warm water is an ideal start to the day in winter. It improves the body's blood circulation and increases metabolic rate, thus aiding digestion. Warm water instantly activates the digestive system, which is necessary in winter.

To shake off winter sluggishness, do some exercises in the morning or practice yoga. Physical activity in winter makes both the body and brain active. It is the best time to practice some breathing yoga or pranayama.

Dress in bright, warm colours like reds and oranges to shrug off the gloominess of dark winter days. Also, always cover your ears, neck, and head with a scarf or hat if you are outside in the cold.

Ayurveda suggests skipping daytime naps as the long, dark, evening hours provide a perfect atmosphere for you to relax and unwind. It is better to have a prolonged sleep at night than to have multiple naps.

Plan on retiring around 10 pm or 11 pm and, before bed, apply some warm oil to your scalp and to the soles of your feet to facilitate restful sleep. Massage the warm oil well into your body for a perfect sleep in winter.

6 Healthy Herbs for Winter, as per Ayurveda

Our digestive power is strong during winters, which is why we are usually more than happy to eat a little more than we might in the summers. These are some specific herbs and spices that can help warm the body and maintain the digestive fire.

Ginger has natural thermogenic properties that keep you warm. Consuming ginger tea or adding it to meals can help the body from within, making it immune to the cold weather.

Turmeric is the most commonly used Ayurvedic herb. It is an immunity booster and can be used to treat seasonal ailments like coughs, joint aches, dry skin and swelling.

Cinnamon contains antioxidants that help fight infection and inflammation which makes it a great herb for the cold and flu season. Add 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon and grated ginger in a cup of warm water and stir it with honey.

Black pepper is a winter superfood and Ayurveda also suggests to eat it in this season. It helps in reducing chest congestion by diluting mucus, making it a lifesaver during winter.

Nutmeg is another warm spice that can be used to enhance the flavours of both sweet and savoury foods. It has potent antibacterial effects that aid in immune system stimulation.

Consuming chilli pepper in winter not only warms up your body but also prevents seasonal flu. It contains vitamin C, folic acid and carotene that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Armed Forces Flag Day 2023: All You Need to Know

Armed Forces Flag Day is a day dedicated to honouring the soldiers and veterans of the Indian armed forces. It has been observed annually on Dec 7 since 1949.

Orry is the new internet sensation, and netizens are talking about every little detail about him.

Flag Day emphasises our commitment to caring for our war-disabled soldiers, Veer Naris, and the families of martyrs who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

Armed Forces Flag Day promotes three basic causes: Rehabilitation of battle casualties, Welfare of serving personnel and their families, and Resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.

The Armed Forces Flag is a horizontal tricolour of red, navy blue and sky blue with the tri-service emblem at the centre. The colour red represents the Indian Army, navy blue represents the Indian Navy and sky blue represents the Indian Air Force.

7 Signs You’re Probably an Extroverted Introvert

An extroverted introvert, also known as an ambivert, is someone who has a balance of both personalities. They love both being alone and interacting with people. Here are some traits of an extroverted introverted person.

You Love Being Alone but Appreciate Good Company

You are great at making new friends and socialising but not too much. Socialising is mentally draining for you and you need a break from it every then and now.

Unlike an extrovert, ambiverts take a little longer to get comfortable with a person or situation. They need to push themselves harder, but they’re still more comfortable than introverts.

In case you find an environment, like a date or a party too friendly, you always have an escape plan. You are best at making an excuse whenever you want to run away from a group of highly extrovert people.

You Find People Both Intriguing and Exhausting

At social gatherings, you can both mingle with people cheerfully and enjoy the event from a distance. This is another way for ambiverts to recharge their social batteries.

You’re Often Mistaken for an Extrovert

People mistake you for an extrovert as you show signs of being polite, outgoing and fun. But in reality, you can’t recharge yourself without spending some alone time with yourself.

Extroverted introverts don’t enjoy small talk at all. This is where your introverted side is stronger. Small talk feels fake to ambiverts and doesn’t fill their batteries.

While an ambivert is usually surrounded by people, much like an extrovert, no one really knows them (even those closest to them). They enjoy being around people who don’t take offence easily, as they will more often cancel on you.

Wasabi, also sometimes known as Japanese horseradish, is a cruciferous vegetable known for its pungent smell and bright green colour which is a staple condiment for sushi and noodles in Japanese cuisine.

The Isothiocyanates (ITCs) present in wasabi are responsible for manifesting anti-bacterial properties. It is beneficial against food poisoning or any other foodborne illness. Wasabi is known to fight off foodborne pathogens such as E. coli and staphylococcus.

Some research suggests that the edible leaves of the wasabi plant contain compounds that may suppress the growth and formation of fat cells. In one study, which was conducted on mice, it was seen that wasabi leaf extract prevented weight gain.

Various studies have shown that ITCs present in wasabi suppress cells and enzymes that promote inflammation, including inflammatory cytokines like interleukins and tumour necrosis factor (TNF).

ITCs present in wasabi may have neuroprotective effects. They help prevent or slow down neurodegenerative disorders driven by inflammation, such as Parkinson's disease.

Some research indicates that the consumption of wasabi and other brassica vegetables may inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells (such as colon and breast cancer), which can potentially reduce the risk of those cancers overall.

Wasabi, particularly its leafstalk, may contribute to better bone health. On top of that, the anti-inflammatory compounds in wasabi might help ease arthritis pains.

6 Surprising Health Benefits of Wasabi

Michel de Nostradame aka Nostradamus was a French astrologer who published his infamous book Led Propheties nearly 500 years ago. In his book, he made 942 forecasts that appear to predict the future.

The French astrologer has predicted that in 2024 world will witness climate chaos. “The dry earth will grow more parched,” he predicts in one quatrain, “and there will be great floods”.

Nostradamus predicted naval confrontation with China centuries ago. He said that the “Red adversary will become pale with fear. Putting the great Ocean in dread”. The great ocean here might suggest the Indian Ocean and the phrase ‘red adversary’ is a reference to communist China.

In one of the quatrains, Nostradamus refers to someone he calls the ‘King of the Isles’, who had a controversial divorce and who is “driven out by force”. Further, he also wrote that this King is replaced by “one who will have no mark of a king”.

Nostradamus said in one of his predictions that due to old age, the Pope will be replaced by a new younger Pope. “Through the death of the very old Pontiff. A Roman of good age will be elected,” he wrote.

Previously, he is said to have predicted John F Kennedy's assassination, the 9/11 terror attacks and even the start of the coronavirus pandemic, as per interpretations of his writings.

Horrifying accounts of sexual violence from Oct 7

Two first responders from Israel addressed the UN in person. Simcha Grienman, who collected victims’ remains from the sites of attacks, described a woman’s body that he found naked from the waist down, leaning over a bed.

The corpse had been booby-trapped with a live grenade, hidden in the woman’s hand, he added. Among the bodies he recovered were two people who had suffered genital mutilation, one a woman who had “nails and different objects” in her genitals, the other so badly damaged “we couldn’t even identify if it’s a man or a woman”.
