Armed Forces Flag Day is a day dedicated to honouring the soldiers and veterans of the Indian armed forces. It has been observed annually on Dec 7 since 1949.
On 28 Aug 1949, the Ministry of Defence declared that Dec 7 would be commemorated as Armed Forces Flag Day, a day dedicated to honouring the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who serve the nation.
Flag Day emphasises our commitment to caring for our war-disabled soldiers, Veer Naris, and the families of martyrs who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
Armed Forces Flag Day promotes three basic causes: Rehabilitation of battle casualties, Welfare of serving personnel and their families, and Resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
The Armed Forces Flag is a horizontal tricolour of red, navy blue and sky blue with the tri-service emblem at the centre. The colour red represents the Indian Army, navy blue represents the Indian Navy and sky blue represents the Indian Air Force.
On Flag Day, the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy arrange a variety of shows, carnivals and other entertainment programmes to showcase to the general public the efforts of their personnel to ensure national security.
