A Scoot aeroplane, that departed from South Korea for Singapore, was found to have a missing nose wheel upon its arrival in Taipei on Monday morning during a scheduled stop.

According to a statement released by the airlines, flight TR897, which connects Seoul, Taipei and Singapore, detected a technical fault upon landing at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

“The flight which was originally scheduled to depart from Taipei to Singapore at 1.30 am was subsequently cancelled,” it added.

As per Focus Taiwan reports, the flight had more than 300 passengers on board.&nbsp;

According to Taiwanese media outlets, the left nose wheel toppled at the time the plane was landing at 12:06 am after sensors detected abnormal tyre pressure before the aeroplane's descent.

“When the plane landed, the left tyre and metal rim on the nose gear were shorn off, leaving only the right nose tyre to keep the plane upright and moving,” reported Taiwan News.

Also, there were no signs of the wheel on the runway or taxiway, Focus Taiwan cited Taoyuan International Airport as saying.

As per the aviation safety portal SKYbrary, a nose wheel assists a plane in directional control during take-off and landing, and “allows the aircraft to manoeuvre whilst on the ground”.

<h2>Incident to be investigated, says&nbsp;Taiwan's transport minister</h2>

Taiwan's transport and communications minister Wang Kwo-tsai said that the incident will be probed by its Civil Aeronautics Administration and relevant authorities, as per CNA reports.

“Hotel accommodation and flight refunds have been arranged for our passengers where applicable. Scoot will provide assistance to customers with connecting flights from Singapore,” CNA quoted Scoot as saying.

The airline further said that it had arranged a recovery flight TR897D for the remaining passengers from Taipei to Singapore on Monday at 8:45 pm.&nbsp;

The recovery flight landed in Singapore at 1:35 am on Tuesday, as per Changi Airport's website.

"Scoot sincerely apologises for the disruption and inconvenience caused. The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority, and we will continue to provide assistance to affected customers where necessary," CNA quoted Scoot as saying.

A man allegedly wounded three women in a series of subway slashing incidents in Manhattan late on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) officials while releasing the pictures of the suspect, said they were on the lookout for the man.

In a press release, the NYPD said that the man, in separate incidents, slashed three women at the 86th Street-Lexington Avenue subway station between 4 and 5 pm&nbsp;on Sunday.

The police said that the first woman, who was the victim of the slashing, was attacked from behind in the right leg when she was getting off a train.

Moments later, the accused again slashed a 48-year-old woman's right leg as she was waiting for her train, as per NYPD.

Then the alleged assailant went on to attack another 28-year-old woman who was sitting in a southbound car.

Police said that the woman was immediately rushed to the hospital with a severe injury on her leg.

According to the police, the suspect was later seen fleeing through another station at Chambers Street before he disappeared.

The United States on Saturday recorded three mass shootings in Illinois, Missouri and Washington in a day, leaving four dead, and at least 38 injured.

The first shooting occurred in central Pennsylvania on Saturday morning where two state troopers were shot, one fatally, in a multi-scene shootout with a man who initially fired bullets into state police vehicles outside police barracks, reported CNN on Sunday.

The accused, identified as 38-year-old Brandon Stine, got out of the vehicle and shot a long rifle into marked police cars, Col. Christopher Paris, the Pennsylvania State Police commissioner, said at a news conference on Sunday.

He then fled the scene, prompting the authorities to launch a wide manhunt that is said to have included helicopter reinforcement.

One of the state troopers, Lt James Wagner, located Stine early that afternoon and they exchanged gunfire. A shot from Stine’s gun struck and critically injured Wagner, Paris said.

“At this point in the incident, multiple citizens and witnesses arrived to provide aid to Lt. Wagner and use the radio that was in his car to summon additional troopers, (emergency medical services) and first responders to help,” Paris said. Stine fled the scene again.

The second shooting occurred on Saturday around 8.25 pm near Washington State during an electronic dance music festival in which two people were killed and three injured.

The incident occurred a few hundred yards from the Gorge Amphitheater near Georgetown after the shooter “randomly” started shooting at the crowd.

After firing the initial shots, the suspect started moving through the campground and “continued to shoot randomly into the crowd” until he was eventually confronted by police and taken into custody, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said.

At least 20 people were shot, one fatally, during an overnight shooting in the US state of Illinois southwest suburban Willowbrook, on Sunday (June 18).&nbsp;

Local media reported citing witnesses that over 200 teens and young adults were gathered for a Juneteenth celebration when over two dozen shots were fired into the crowd. The incident took place at the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Route 83 (Kingery Highway) in DuPage County.

Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi had earlier issued 215 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India to participate in the annual festival scheduled on the eve of Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjan Dev Jee to be held in Pakistan from June 8-17, 2023.

This move is in line with the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to implement the Bilateral Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974.

The pilgrims will visit a number of holy sites including Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib during their stay in Pakistan.

A free trade zone agreement between Iran, Russia and several countries that cover the vast Eurasian region spreading from the borders of Eastern Europe to Western China is possible by the end of the year, Russia's TASS news agency reported on Monday.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told the state TASS agency in an interview that talks between the Eurasian Economic Union - which comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia - and Iran are in their final stages.

"We are moving forward," Overchuk said. "We very much hope that such an agreement can be signed by the end of the year."

Both the region and Iran have taken on additional significance for the Kremlin after Western sanctions over Moscow's invasion in Ukraine limited Russia's foreign trade routes and forced it to look for markets outside Europe.

However, despite tighter ties between Moscow and Tehran since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and began big purchases of Iranian-made drones to attack the country, trade between the two markets have grown only moderately.

Russian-Iranian commodity turnover rose 20% in 2022, according to government data, two-thirds the overall growth rate Moscow saw with China, another key partner with whom Russia has expanded political and economic alliance in the past two years.

The regional agreement with Iran would replace and expand an interim pact that already provides a reduction in customs duties on hundreds of categories of goods.

In November 2022, Russia started swapping oil products with Iran and in March, Tehran said it counts on "huge volumes" of both oil and gas swaps with Moscow.

Overchuk also told TASS, without providing much detail, that negotiations among the Eurasian Economic Union countries on creating a common gas market continue.

Russia says regional free trade pact with Iran possible by year-end

Qatar and United Arab Emirates' respective embassies reopened and resumed work on Monday after both the Gulf states agreed on restoring their diplomatic relationship, Qatar's foreign ministry released a statement as saying.

The Gulf states decided to restore the ties amid a comprehensive regional push for resolution. Also, this comes two years after Arab states ended a boycott of Doha that had completely broken the Western-allied Gulf Arab bloc.

The Qatari ministry in a statement said that the two foreign ministers, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed spoke to each other telephonically on Monday after the embassies reopened.

As per a Reuters report published in the month of April, the two Gulf states were in the process of restoring diplomatic relations.

The rift between Abu Dhabi and Doha emerged over regional influence, the role of Islam in politics and also over support for pro-democracy movements across the Middle East.

In the year 2017, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed all ties with Qatar over allegations that it backed terrorism and also that it minted closer ties with Iran.

After a Saudi-led deal, Riyadh and Cairo were the first ones to reappoint ambassadors to Doha in the year 2021 in order to put an end to the vendetta.

However, Bahrain has yet to reopen its embassy in Doha.

The restoration of ties also came post Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to re-establish ties after years of animosity, which had jeopardised flux in the Gulf and fuelled the war in Yemen.

Social media influencer Andrew Tate, along with his brother and two of his associates, has been charged with rape&nbsp;and human trafficking in Romania after a six-month-long probe, the prosecutors said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The anti-organised crime prosecution's unit (DIICOT) ordered the indictment" of the four defendants for offences, including "setting up an organised criminal group... trafficking in persons... rape", they said.&nbsp;

The four were arrested by the Romanian police in December 2022. They were placed under house arrest earlier this year in the month of March.

Tate, his brother Tristan and the two Romanian women deny all the accusations against them.

"It was held that, in early 2021, the four defendants formed an organised criminal group with a view to committing the crime of trafficking in persons on the territory of Romania, but also in other countries, such as the United States and the United Kingdom," DIICOT said in a statement.

Apart from the human trafficking and rape charges, "both in continuous form", the four have also been indicted for "illegal access to a computer system, altering the integrity of computer data, instigation to assault or other violence and assault or other violence," the statement further added.

As per DIICOT, Tate and the others arrested allegedly trafficked, recruited and exploited women by forcing them into "pornographic acts with a view to producing and disseminating such material" online.

The latest order by IndiGo is the largest-ever aircraft order placed by any airline with Airbus. 
Financial details of the order were not disclosed. The aircraft purchase agreement was signed between the airline and Airbus at the Paris Air Show 2023.

The latest order will provide IndiGo a further steady stream of deliveries between 2030 and 2035, the airline said in a release. Currently, IndiGo operates more than 300 aircraft. It has previous orders totalling 480 aircraft, which are yet to be delivered.

InterGlobe Aviation shares hit 52-week high in intra-day trade

Ukraine, on Monday, released a statement on the latest development in its two-week-old counteroffensive, saying that it had driven Russian troops out of an eighth village, situated on a heavily girded part of the frontline near the route that is most direct to the country's Azov Sea coast.&nbsp;

A Russian-installed official on Sunday said that Ukraine had taken control of the village, Piatykhatky, in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, as per news agency Reuters.

Later, he said that Moscow had pushed them out and on Monday morning he said Ukraine was attacking again.

Ukraine's Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar released a statement saying that Ukrainian forces had not only retaken Piatykhatky but had also advanced by up to seven km (4.3 miles) into Russian lines in two weeks, capturing 113 square km (44 square miles) of land.

"In the course of two weeks of offensive operations in the Berdiansk and Melitopol directions, eight settlements were liberated," Maliar said on Telegram, referring to two cities on the Russian-occupied coastline.

He also said that Russian forces were coming up against fierce resistance in the east of the country, particularly around Bakhmut.

"Our troops are advancing, position by position, step by step, we are moving forward," he said on Sunday evening. "The main thing is the speed of supply."

The Russian Defence Ministry, on Monday, said that its troops had averted an attempt by Ukraine to capture the village of Novodonetske in the eastern Donetsk region.

As per a Reuters report, the Russian Defence Ministry released a video which showed a soldier talking about capturing a&nbsp;French-made tank.

Both sides appear to have taken heavy losses in recent fighting and both say they have lost fewer troops than their foes.

"The enemy's 'wave-like' offensives yielded results, despite enormous losses," Russian-installed official Vladimir Rogov said on Telegram in reporting the Piatykhatky fighting.

A spokesperson for the Odesa military administration, Serhiy Bratchuk, on Sunday, claimed that Ukrainian forces have destroyed a “significant” ammunition depot near the Russian-occupied port city of Henichesk in Kherson. &nbsp;

In a video message, Bratchuk, said, “Our armed forces dealt a good blow in the morning - and a very loud one - in the village of Rykove, Henichesk district, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region.” He added, “There was a very significant ammunition depot. It was destroyed.”

India urged Germany to send Indian baby&nbsp;back to the country at the earliest asserting that it is important for the child to be in her linguistic, religious, cultural and social environment.

The child has been living in foster care in Berlin for over 20 months. The German authorities had taken her custody on September 23, 2021, when she was seven months old.

As per ANI reports, the baby was accidentally hurt by her grandmother in September 2021 after which the German authorities took her away.

While addressing the briefing on Friday, EAM spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "We are dismayed to learn that the child was abruptly shifted away from her current foster parent to a specialised foster care arrangement. The manner in which this shift was carried out is a matter of concern. We and the parents believe that this rapid change is not in the child's best interest and could have far-reaching consequences for her emotional and mental development."

He further stated, "We would like to reiterate that the baby is an Indian national and her nationality and socio-cultural background is the most important determinant of where her foster care is to be provided. We urge German authorities to do all that is necessary to send the baby&nbsp;to India at the earliest, which is also her inalienable right as an Indian national. We remain committed to ensuring the return of the child to India."

Talking about the case, Bagchi said that the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of India, Berlin, have been persistently advocating for the return of the child&nbsp;to India, "The child is an Indian national and she was placed in the custody of Germany's Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt) on 23 September 2021, when she was 7 months old. She has now been in foster care for more than 20 months," he said. &nbsp;

"Cultural background is the most important determinant of where her foster care is to be provided. We urge German authorities to do all that is necessary to send [name of the child] to India at the earliest, which is also her inalienable right as an Indian national. We remain committed to ensuring the return of the baby to India."

"The German authorities have been made aware of India's child protection system and the details of potential foster parents have also been shared with them," he said.

"The child's continued placement in German foster care and infringement of her social, cultural and linguistic rights is of deep concern to the Government of India and the parents."

Last year, in the month of December, Indian EAM Jaishankar conveyed to his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock the concerns over bringing the baby girl back to India.

"Our efforts have been guided by the best interests of the child, which we believe can be fully realised only when she is in her home country where her socio-cultural rights can be safeguarded," Bagchi said.

"Accordingly, we have been requesting Germany to return the child to India. The embassy has repeatedly requested German authorities to ensure that [child's name]'s connection with her cultural, religious and linguistic background is not compromised and sought consular access to the child," he added.

Bagchi said Baerbock, during her visit to India, had also conveyed that the German side was also bearing in mind the cultural identity of each child that is taken care of by the youth offices in Germany.

"Unfortunately our requests in this regard for safeguarding the child's national and cultural identity have not been met," he said.

After the installation of a major software update that enabled NASA's Curiosity Mars rover to drive faster and also reduced wear and tear on its wheels, the robot took stunning captures of the “Marker Band Valley” before leaving it behind.

The postcard, showcasing the picturesque landscape from the red planet, is an artistic representation of what Mars looks like at different times of the day.

In a news release, NASA said that the panoramas captured by the robot were taken with black-and-white navigation cameras on April 8, 2023.

The colours were further added to the black-and-white panoramas with blue being added to the parts of the postcard clicked in the morning and yellow to the ones clicked in the afternoon.

Further giving details of the postcard, NASA said that it shows several landmarks of Mars including "Marker Band Valley," where the rover discovered unexpected signs of an ancient lake and also two hills named "Bolivar" and "Deepdale".

“Anyone who’s been to a national park knows the scene looks different in the morning than it does in the afternoon,” said Curiosity engineer Doug Ellison of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, who planned and processed the images. “Capturing two times of the day provides dark shadows because the lighting is coming in from the left and the right, like you might have on a stage – but instead of stage lights, we’re relying on the Sun.”

NASA further noted that the rover took the photos during winter time and that the shadows during that time of the year are deeper and darker as the dust levels in the Martian atmosphere are at their lowest.&nbsp;

"Mars' shadows get sharper and deeper when there's low dust and softer when there's lots of dust," Ellison said.

A jury on Friday found an American man guilty of claiming the lives of 11 Jewish worshippers at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue in the year 2018, in what is deemed the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in the history of the United States, reported local media.

Robert Bowers was convicted of opening fire inside the synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 27, 2018.&nbsp;

Federal prosecutors charged Bowers with 63 counts, which also included 11 counts of obstruction of free exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death. The jury found him guilty on all counts, a spokesperson for the US Attorney's office in Pittsburgh confirmed, as cited by news agency Reuters.

Jurors, during his trial, heard testimony from the survivors of the attack. The evidence of Bowers' antisemitism included several posts that he made against Jews on a far-right website in the months leading to the attack.

The jury will now decide if Bowers should receive the death penalty for the shooting rampage.

In the sentencing phase, prosecutors will try to showcase that exacerbating factors were involved, making a case that Bowers carefully plotted the attack and that he targeted vulnerable victims. Most of the victims of the shooting were elderly.

Defence lawyers for Bowers have argued that he suffers from major mental health issues and that a death sentence would violate the Constitution on the grounds.

They claimed he had a "misguided intent" of wanting to stop one of the Jewish organisations from helping immigrants settle in the United States.

The court heard that the former truck driver yelled "All Jews must die!" during the mass shooting, which in turn added to the fears about a revival of far-right extremists and neo-Nazis across the US.

The incident took place during Shabbat services and Bowers was armed with an AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifle and three Glock handguns. The police then arrested him at the scene.

The massacre claimed the lives of members of three congregations in the synagogue. Two additional worshippers and several police officers were also injured in the incident.

As per local media reports, Bowers had expressed strong anti-Semitic views online before the attack.

The then-US president Donald Trump had called for Bowers to receive the death penalty.

However, the Department of Justice under President Joe Biden has not carried out any federal executions since he came to power in January 2021.
