<p>The family of Jordan Neely, 30, a homeless New York man who was reportedly killed by a former US Marine Corps veteran in a chokehold, has come out to condemn the actions that led to Neely's killing.</p>

<p>The former US Marine Corps veteran has been identified as Daniel Penny.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Neely, while being homeless,&nbsp;identified as a "big time" Michael Jackson fan and had amassed a following within New York City and beyond.</p>

<p>In a statement released on Monday morning, Neely's family said that a statement issued last week by the attorney representing Daniel Penny amounts to an "admission of guilt," and that "his actions on the train, and now his words, show why he needs to be in prison."</p>

<p>The statement by Penny's attorney said he "never intended to harm Mr. Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death."</p>

<p>Penny was questioned by police and released the same day, and has not been criminally charged, CBS News reported.</p>

<p>The case is expected to go before a grand jury this week to determine whether or not to bring criminal charges</p>

<p>Protests have erupted in parts of Europe in which demonstrators have called for justice for Neely.</p>

<p>"Daniel Penny's press release is not an apology nor an expression of regret. It is a character assassination, and a clear example of why he believed he was entitled to take Jordan's life," the Neely family said in Monday's statement. "In the first paragraph he talks about how 'good' he is and the next paragraph he talks about how 'bad' Jordan was in an effort to convince us Jordan's life was 'worthless.' The truth is, he knew nothing about Jordans history when he intentionally wrapped his arms around Jordan's neck, and squeezed and kept squeezing."</p>

<p>The&nbsp;video footage of the incident shows Penny lying on the floor beneath Neely with both arms wrapped around his neck.</p>

<p>The chockehold has been characterised as "a tragic incident on the NYC subway, which ended in the death of Jordan Neely."</p>

<p>His family said Monday that Penny's actions on the train and the subsequent press release spoke to his "indifference" toward Neely's life and "show why he needs to be in prison."</p>

In short, his actions on the train, and now his words, show why he needs to be in prison."</p>

<p>The statement from Neely's family concluded with a request to New York City Mayor Eric Adams to "please give us a call."</p>

Manipur ethnic violence: India's Supreme Court takes note of 'humanitarian issues'

<p>Charles Philip Arthur George alias Charles III is now the King of England. His alarmingly ostentatious&nbsp;coronation without Britain’s imperial symbol of colonial plundering over his head (the Kohinoor) had 2,300 guests inside London’s centuries-old Westminster Abbey.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an elaborate, archaic and tiring ritual not seen in Britain since 1953, ‘God save the king’ was heard. The event was televised all over the world, including in Britain’s former colonies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In attendance were about 100 heads of state inside the Abbey, including the representatives of 56 of Britain’s former colonies that London’s archaic corridors of power have cleverly put into euphemism as the so-called Commonwealth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India, Bangladesh and Nigeria constitute the three most populous lot&nbsp;of this ‘commonwealth’.</p>

<p>What constituted the ‘common’ part of the commonwealth at Charles’s coronation?&nbsp;</p>

<p>What is common between Jagdeep Dhankhar (71), India’s Vice President, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (75) of Bangladesh?&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indian state of West Bengal where Dhankhar served as governor not long ago, and the country whose Prime Minister is Hasina since 2009, had a combined death toll of at least three million people in the great Bengal famine of 1943 when the British reigned supreme in the subcontinent. That the two leaders, along with 54 other representatives of former British colonies, chose to forget their region’s history at the expense of their present-day interests. Their attendance, obviously, represents the glorification of Britain’s colonial tyranny.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In terms of monetary value, Britain drained a total of nearly $45 trillion worth of wealth from India during the period 1765 to 1938, according to economist Utsa Patnaik’s 2018 research.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Such huge drain of wealth from the Indian subcontinent has&nbsp;corresponded into generations of extreme poverty, illiteracy and low life expectancies – the real ‘commonwealth ‘legacy’ which is anything but glorious.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, did he forget to recall that just from the Nigerian city of Benin alone, the British stole over 10,000 pieces of artefacts worth hundreds of millions which they still keep?</p>

<p>That the commemoration of colonialism is symbolised in the inflated glory of the vestige of the erstwhile empire which was pompously displayed in Saturday's coronation,&nbsp;the elevated public relations event of the metaverse age.</p>

<p>For billions all over the world,&nbsp;Charles’s coronation represents an eerie reminder of colonialism and coloniser both. At the same time, it is to the credit of London’s diplomatic success despite Britain’s demotion as the top global power over the decades that it has convinced the victims of its colonial tyranny that it is now reborn and wants a common wealth for all and a shared future. This is even as it refuses to repay, even by means of symbolic restitution, the enormous resources it looted from the former colonies.</p>

His alarmingly ostentatious coronation without Britain’s imperial symbol of colonial plundering over his head (the Kohinoor) had 2,300 guests inside London’s centuries-old Westminster Abbey. In an elaborate, archaic and tiring ritual not seen in Britain since 1953, ‘God save the king’ was heard. The event was televised all over the world, including in Britain’s former colonies. In attendance were about 100 heads of state inside the Abbey, including the representatives of 56 of Britain’s former colonies that London’s archaic corridors of power have cleverly put into euphemism as the so-called Commonwealth. India, Bangladesh and Nigeria constitute the three most populous lot of this ‘commonwealth’. What constituted the ‘common’ part of the commonwealth at Charles’s coronation? What is common between Jagdeep Dhankhar (71), India’s Vice President, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (75) of Bangladesh? The Indian state of West Bengal where Dhankhar served as governor not long ago, and the country whose Prime Minister is Hasina since 2009, had a combined death toll of at least three million people in the great Bengal famine of 1943 when the British reigned supreme in the subcontinent. That the two leaders, along with 54 other representatives of former British colonies, chose to forget their region’s history at the expense of their present-day interests. Their attendance, obviously, represents the glorification of Britain’s colonial tyranny. ALSO READ | Rishi Sunak, the 'proud British', are you sorry for Jallianwala Bagh massacre? In terms of monetary value, Britain drained a total of nearly $45 trillion worth of wealth from India during the period 1765 to 1938, according to economist Utsa Patnaik’s 2018 research. Such huge drain of wealth from the Indian subcontinent has corresponded into generations of extreme poverty, illiteracy and low life expectancies – the real ‘commonwealth ‘legacy’ which is anything but glorious. For President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, did he forget to recall that just from the Nigerian city of Benin alone, the British stole over 10,000 pieces of artefacts worth hundreds of millions which they still keep? At the same time, it is to the credit of London’s diplomatic success despite Britain’s demotion as the top global power over the decades that it has convinced the victims of its colonial tyranny that it is now reborn and wants a common wealth for all and a shared future. This is even as it refuses to repay, even by means of symbolic restitution, the enormous resources it looted from the former colonies. India and Sri Lanka stepped up their talks to proceed with trade in Indian Rupee as New Delhi and Colombo look set to expand their bilateral cooperation in "power and energy sector as well as aspects relating to Rupee trade".

India and Sri Lanka stepped up their talks to proceed with trade in Indian Rupee as New Delhi and Colombo look set to expand their bilateral cooperation in "power and energy sector as well as aspects relating to Rupee trade". Dr Pramod Kumar Mishra, a cabinet rank official in India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, met with Sri Lankan High Commissioner Milinda Moragoda in New Delhi on Friday to continue the bilateral dialogue between two South Asian neighbours on a number of issues, including on debt restructuring matters crucial for Colombo's economic recovery. "The High Commissioner stressed the vital role that economic integration between the two countries could play in Sri Lanka's economic recovery," an official readout stated. "High Commissioner Moragoda also followed up [Pramod Kumar Mishra] on a range of issues pertaining to the bilateral relationship that had been discussed during their last meeting in February," the readout added, while referring to a previous round of bilateral talks between New Delhi and Colombo that addressed former's support for latter's economic recovery alongside aforementioned matters of bilateral cooperation. "The matters discussed included further economic integration between Sri Lanka and India, enhancing Indian investments and tourism in Sri Lanka, ways and means to further promote bilateral trade, cooperation in power and energy sector as well as aspects relating to Rupee trade," the official readout stated further. Several banks in Sri Lanka have opened special rupee trading accounts, called Vostro accounts. This means that Sri Lankan citizens can now hold $10,000 (₹8,26,823) in physical form and for transactions with their Indian counterparts, they can use Indian rupees instead of US dollars.
