European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described Ukraine as "the beating heart of today's European values" in a visit to Kyiv on Tuesday as Russia marked its World War II Victory Day. Von der Leyen's trip underlined the European Union's support for Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin presided over a military parade on Moscow's Red Square and portrayed his own country as under attack by the West as war rages on in Ukraine for the 15th month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he and von der Leyen had discussed defence matters, sanctions on Russia and Ukraine's integration with the European Union. Central Asian Flyway: India leads global effort to save migratory birds

<p>Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque and one among Delhi's grandest identification-markers is set to get a revamp. In works for nearly two decades, the redevelopment plan, dubbed Jama Masjid redevelopment plan has reportedly&nbsp;received a fresh push from the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD).</p>

<p>The department has invited fresh bids to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the redevelopment of the area around the mosque.</p>

<p>"Last month, we opened the tender for appointing a new consultant for redevelopment of the Jama Masjid precinct," a department official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.</p>

<p>However, a Detailed Project Report simply means that the department will be told what all needs to be done for the redevelopment of the area. It could take some more years before the actual work on the basis of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) starts.</p>

<p>The first attempts at&nbsp;revamping the mosque, built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1656, began in 2004 when the then Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit's government first conceived Jama Masjid Redevelopment Plan.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Why Jama Masjid needs a revamp?</strong></h2>

<p>Unlike India's other heritage sites, such as Qutub Minar in New Delhi and Taj Mahal in Agra, Jama Masjid (since it is primarily a place of worship) is not a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).</p>

<p>The centuries-old monument has obviously had its tryst with the time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The finial of Jama Masjid’s central dome was damaged in May last year following heavy rain and thunderstorm. In June 2021, a slab of red sandstone from the minaret collapsed and ended up damaging the courtyard beneath it.</p>

<p>Other issues that plague the structure include narrow approach roads, and the presence of shops and residential areas opposite Jama Masjid’s main entrance.</p>

<h2><strong>About Jama Masjid Redevelopment Plan</strong></h2>

<p>According to a report in Hindustan Times, the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) board in August 2019 decided that to expedite the execution of the redevelopment plan whose the detailed project report will be divided into two parts.</p>

<p>One will concern the vicinity of the mosque’s precincts, including Meena Bazar, Urdu Bazar and all approach roads leading to the masjid, and the other about the main monument precincts, which means the areas within the walled premises of the main mosque.</p>

<p>The work reportedly entails the redevelopment of the 12.7 hectare area.</p>

In June 2021, a slab of red sandstone from the minaret collapsed and ended up damaging the courtyard beneath it. Other issues that plague the structure include narrow approach roads, and the presence of shops and residential areas opposite Jama Masjid’s main entrance. About Jama Masjid Redevelopment Plan According to a report in Hindustan Times, the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) board in August 2019 decided that to expedite the execution of the redevelopment plan whose the detailed project report will be divided into two parts. One will concern the vicinity of the mosque’s precincts, including Meena Bazar, Urdu Bazar and all approach roads leading to the masjid, and the other about the main monument precincts, which means the areas within the walled premises of the main mosque. The work reportedly entails the redevelopment of the 12.7 hectare area. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. India: Delhi's iconic Jama Masjid may soon get seminal revamp

<p>The last time a Pakistani foreign minister visited India, Dr Manmohan Singh was still India's Prime Minister. Rawalpindi's stamp of governance was with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani in Islamabad's corridors of power. India's Jammu and Kashmir had its special status with Article 370 well placed into India's constitution, and New Delhi was yet to see its meteoric rise as the subcontinent's diplomatic capital.</p>

<p>On Friday, as Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appeared with an on-stage stumble against his Indian counterpart, the two leaders' sharp diplomatic optics concluded the core SCO goal: combating terrorism.</p>

<p>The Egyptian capital witnessed a remarkable moment towards stability in West Asia this weekend, as foreign ministers from Arab League member states agreed to reinstate Syria’s membership after its suspension more than 10 years ago.</p>

<p>The decision was made in advance of the Arab League Summit in Saudi Arabia on May 19.</p>

<p>Syria’s Arab League membership was revoked after President Bashar al-Assad ordered a crackdown on protesters in March 2011 at the onset of Arab spring that spiraled the country into a civil war.</p>

<p>In what appeared to be remarkable optics to justify the escalation of ongoing war in Ukraine, two drones were exploded in Moscow this week as they hovered over Russian President Vladimir Putin's Kremlin residence. Russia designated the incident as a "planned terrorist attack" and "assassination attempt on the president of Russia".</p>

<p>Russia said the United States masterminded the attack, and that Ukraine carried it out.</p>

<p>Washington and Kyiv quickly denied the responsibility.</p>

<p>Yoon is facing criticism at home that he has given more than he’s received in his efforts to improve relations with Japan. 5 Times The World Was Ending But Did Not

French astrologer Nostradamus predicted that the world would end on this day. "The year one thousand nine ninety-nine seven month / From the sky shall come a great King of terror...," he wrote. Nostradamus has been right a lot many times though.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was widely deemed as a piece of architecture that could end the world. The machine's mini black holes did not end the world but instead widened the horizon of scientific curiosities.

American evangelist Harold Camping predicted a series of devastating earthquakes on May 21, 2011. The prediction further stated that the quakes will end all life on October 21. The world, of course, did not end then either.

A top-grossing film at the time, '2012' teased the end of the world. This was the last date on the ancient calendar created during Mayan civilisation. The date became a popular subject of media speculation as an expected moment of world cataclysm.

A numerologist, David Meade, in his book 'Planet X - 2017 Arrival', claimed that a planet would collide and destroy Earth on this date. He said that the date was written in code in Giza's pyramids. The date came and went without such event.

Some credible claims suggest Earth may not support human life by the end of 21st century. But a global consensus to limit the planet's warming may well prevent that. The world may not exactly end. But a threat to human civilisation, as we know it, cannot be ruled out.

The end of the world has been imagined in pop culture over decades. Many predictions have been proven wrong yet the curiosity over the 'end' remains
