Five Foreign Policy Lessons From Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones lords over massive fandom second to none. It had many foreign policy lessons. The next few slides have spoilers. You have been warned.

The Starks trusted the Freys and Red Wedding was the consequence. The Lannisters of foreign affairs would send regards of unfathomable kinds.

The Battle of Blackwater Bay, Battle of the Bastards, Hardhome; the odds did not favour the winner. What won the war was the courage shown by the winning side.

EXTERNAL THREATS BRING POTENTIAL ALLIES CLOSER

The external threat posed by the Night King was able to bring the warring Lannisters, Starks, Targaryens and others together.

Robb Stark, the 'King in the North', was on a winning spree on the battlefield. The lack of strategic foresight pushed him to the Freys, an old enemy. The Lannisters emerged victorious.

Cersei Lannister's authoritarian tinge paved the way for High Priest's extremism. The weaponisation of faith can overthrow the same power that weaponised it.
