A man stabbed four people in a rampage in Auckland, New Zealand. The authorities said that bystanders brought the man to the ground.

Police District Commander Naila Hassan said the suspect in the Auckland attack was in custody.

"This was an extremely fast-moving incident, where our police staff responded quickly, apprehended the offender and prevented further harm to our communities," Hassan said.

It was not immediately apparent what was the motive behind the attack.

New Zealand was the site of two violent stabbing rampages at supermarkets last year. One was considered a terror attack while a judge found no motive could be attached to the other attack.

A Muslim extremist, who was inspired by Islamic State group stabbed five people in Auckland last September. He was shot and killed by the police.

Three of those he stabbed were critically injured and two other people were also injured in the melee, but all survived.

Last year in May, shoppers and a staff at a supermarket in Dunedin managed to stop a frenzied man from hurting others after he stabbed four people. Three people were severely wounded.

The Dunedin attacker, 43-year-old Luke Lambert, was convicted on four counts of attempted murder and sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Astronaut nudges Sandra Bullock while recreating 'Gravity' scene on ISS

Pakistan and International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached an agreement over bailout programme, said Pakistani media. It is expected that the agreement will be signed in-principle on Friday (June 24).&nbsp;

Pakistan's economy is teetering on the brink of a financial crisis. Foreign exchange reserves of the country are drying up fast. Pakistani rupee is at record low against th US dollar.

However, the lender later said additional measures were needed to bring Pakistan`s budget in line with the key objectives of the IMF programme.

This month, Pakistan unveiled a 9.5 trillion Pakistani rupees (USD 47 billion) budget for the year 2022-23. The budget was aimed at tight fiscal consolidation in a bid to convince the IMF to restart much-needed bailout payments.

This changed when NASA's New Horizons flew past Pluto and Charon. The interplanetary probe captured never before seen images with unprecedented clarity. Pluto's satellite Charon was seen to have a 'red cap'.

The colour red often represents iron and rust for us. But for worlds like Pluto, so far away from the Sun, iron may not always be the right answer for such a phenomenon.

Now, a group of researchers has put forth their conclusion which may help us know why Charon has that red cap.

The research was published in journals Science and Geophysical Research Letters.

The researchers say that red cap on Charon is likely to be due to chemicals known as tholins. These compounds absorbed a specific colour of ultraviolet rays from the Sun to become red and get deposited around north pole of Charon.

Mystery of 'red cap' on Pluto's moon finally solved

US state lawmakers and poll workers described Tuesday how their lives had been upended by threats of violence as Donald Trump singled them out in his bid to overturn the 2020 US election.

Trump was personally involved in an intense campaign of pressure on officials in key swing states he had lost to Joe Biden, the fourth congressional hearing into the former president's bid to cling to power after his defeat was told.

Members of the committee probing the January 2021 assault on the US Capitol that followed the election have spent much of June setting out their initial findings that Trump led a multi-pronged conspiracy to overturn the results, culminating in the insurrection in Washington.

On Tuesday they heard from poll worker Shaye Moss, who was falsely accused by Trump and his lawyer Rudy Giuliani alongside her mother Ruby Freeman of "rigging" the election count in Georgia with "suitcases" full of ballots for Biden.&nbsp;

Moss, who is Black, described people making "hateful" and "racist" threats of violence following the baseless accusations, including one message saying: "Be glad it's 2020 and not 1920."

"This turned my life upside down. I no longer give out my business card, I don't transfer calls," Moss testified.

"I don't want anyone knowing my name... I don't go to the grocery store. Haven't been anywhere at all."

Freeman said in her deposition she had lost her good name and sense of security because "number 45 and his ally Rudy Giuliani decided to scapegoat me and my daughter Shaye, to push their own lies about how the presidential election was stolen."

The mother and daughter were among poll workers or election officials in several states who found themselves pressured to thwart the will of millions of voters based on bogus claims of fraud, the panel said.

Rusty Bowers, speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives, testified that he asked Giuliani "on multiple occasions" for evidence of his stolen election claims.

He told committee members Giuliani said "we've got lots of theories, we just don't have the evidence."

Trump issued a statement, read out during the hearing, attempting to discredit Bowers, calling him a "RINO" -- Republican In Name Only -- and claiming that the lawmaker had told Trump the election was rigged and that Trump had in fact won Arizona. 
Bowers said both claims were false.

'Part of the playbook'

Committee chairman Bennie Thompson had started the hearing by asserting that Trump "pressuring public servants into betraying (their) oath was a fundamental part of the playbook."

Liz Cheney, the committee's vice chair, said Trump was aware that his false claims of fraud could lead to violence, but he assumed a "direct and personal role" in the disinformation campaign anyway.

US presidents are not elected directly by citizens, but chosen by "electors" named to a body called the electoral college by the party that wins the presidential vote in each state.

The committee says a key plank of the plot to subvert the 2020 election was getting pro-Trump Republicans in swing states won by Biden to submit official-looking but fake certificates claiming they were the legitimate electors.

The committee says Trump pressed his vice president Mike Pence to accept these "fake electors" when he was overseeing certification of Biden's victory on January 6, 2021.&nbsp;

Pence ultimately refused to recognize the pro-Trump slates and the president's supporters rioted for hours at the Capitol in unprecedented scenes of brutality that led to at least five deaths.

Sexualized threats

At one point after the election, Trump personally called Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to get involved in his pressure campaign, according to videotaped testimony by McDaniel.

Trump put on his lawyer John Eastman, McDaniel said, "to talk about the importance of the RNC helping the campaign gather these contingent electors."

The exchange is crucial because the committee has promised to provide evidence of a direct link between Trump and the scheme to put forward the false electors.

In-person witnesses included Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger, whom Trump pushed to "find" enough votes to overcome Biden's lead in the battleground state in a phone call that is the subject of a state-level criminal probe.

Raffensperger revealed that 28,000 Republicans voted down-ballot in Georgia in 2020 but skipped the presidential race, which Biden won by just 12,000 votes. 
The official described being inundated with vile messages and said his wife began receiving "sexualized" threats after Trump made them briefly infamous among his supporters.&nbsp;

He also described a break-in at his widowed daughter-in-law's home sparked by the election fraud claims.

"Moments require you to stand up and take the shots, and do your job, which is what we did," he told the hearing.

Trump pressure to flip election 'upended' lives, hearing told

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Jordan on Tuesday and meet Jordan's King Abdullah. This is first such visit in years by de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia. Jordan's economy is currently struggling due to knock-on effects of the Ukraine war.

"This is an opportunity for a new phase in Jordanian-Saudi ties and to continue a program of economic projects and new investments," a senior Jordanian official told Reuters.

There is speculation that the meet will result in unblocking of at least USD 3 billion of investment projects that Saudi Arabia committed to in recent years, but which never materialized.

Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is looking into investing billions of dollars in mega-infrastructure projects in Jordan, including an estimated $2.5 billion railway project, a senior Jordanian official said.

Saudi Arabia has over $12 billion worth of investments in Jordan and once rescued Jordan with cash injections but has held off direct budget support.

Officials said discussions would look at more ways to help Jordan’s economy, which has been hammered by rising fuel prices and higher food imports. Jordan imports most of its energy needs.

Officials say Jordan's economic strains have worsened with the end of Gulf grants and little extra funding from Western donors in the last few years to cope with sluggish growth and high unemployment.

King Abdullah will also discuss with the Saudi prince a summit meeting next month in Jeddah where U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council in addition to Iraq, Jordan and Egypt.

Saudi Arabia and Jordan share deep concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions and what they see as Tehran's destabilizing role in the region, a Jordanian official said.

However, the lender later said additional measures were needed to bring Pakistan`s budget in line with the key objectives of the IMF programme.

With divorce filing, Google's Sergey Brin joins list of big names calling it quits

A study has revealed that women are "significantly" more likely than men to suffer from long Covid. It has also been found that they would experience different symptoms. The study has underscored critical need for sex-disaggregated research.

Long Covid involves the persistence of complications for more than four weeks after initial infection.

Researchers from the Johnson &amp; Johnson Office of the Chief Medical Officer Health of Women Team, who carried out the analysis of data from around 1.3 million patients, observed females with long Covid are presenting with a variety of symptoms including ear, nose, and throat issues; mood disorders, neurological, skin, gastrointestinal and rheumatological disorders; as well as fatigue.

Male patients, however, were more likely to experience endocrine disorders such as diabetes and kidney disorders.

The study found that there 22 per cent more chance of women developing long Covid than men. The research has been published in the journal Current Medical Research and Opinion.

"Knowledge about fundamental sex differences underpinning the clinical manifestations, disease progression, and health outcomes of Covid-19 is crucial for the identification and rational design of effective therapies and public health interventions that are inclusive of and sensitive to the potential differential treatment needs of both sexes," the researchers explained.

"Differences in immune system function between females and males could be an important driver of sex differences in long Covid syndrome. Females mount more rapid and robust innate and adaptive immune responses, which can protect them from initial infection and severity. However, this same difference can render females more vulnerable to prolonged autoimmune-related diseases," they added.

For the study, the team reviewed 640,634 total articles amounting to 1,393,355 unique individuals.

The floating hotel resembled a Chinese imperial palace. Global celebrities and personalities like Tom Cruise and Queen Elizabeth the Second have dined there.

Th floating hotel had financial woes for decades. It was still costing millions in maintenance fees every year and around a dozen businesses and organisations had declined an invitation to take it over at no charge,

The restaurant, which served Cantonese cuisine since 1976. Prior to its sinking, the hotel was towed away by tugboats.

Coronavirus pandemic had hit business hard. In 2020, the pandemic year, Jumbo ceased its operations. After months of COVID-19 restrictions, its parent company was unable to find a new owner and lacked the funds to maintain it.

The ex-employees are seeking class action status for all former employees throughout US who were laid off in May/June without notice

"Tesla has simply notified the employees that their terminations would be effective immediately," the complaint said.

Tesla, which has not commented on numbers of layoffs, did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the lawsuit.

Musk, the world's richest person, said earlier this month he had a "super bad feeling" about the economy and that Tesla needed to cut staff by about 10%, according to an email seen by Reuters.

More than 20 people identifying themselves as Tesla employees said they were laid off, let go or had positions terminated this month, according to online postings and interviews with Reuters.

The action filed by John Lynch and Daxton Hartsfield, who were fired on June 10 and June 15 respectively, seeks pay and benefits for the 60-day notification period.
