According to a local media outlet, the shooting took place at or near the site of a Juneteenth music concert called "Moechella" on 14th and U Street. There are unconfirmed reports of more victims being found with one MPD officer being shot in the leg police are asking everyone to avoid the area, said local US media on Monday.&nbsp;

There has been a spate of gun violence in the US in recent times. The incidents, especially the one at a school in Texas, have stirred the public to demand gun control.&nbsp;

Gun rights have been enshrined in the US constitution and any demand for gun control meets stiff political resistance, especially from the Republican Party.&nbsp;

US President Joe Biden has underlined the need to ban assault weapons.&nbsp;

"We need to ban assault weapons. ... if we can't, then we should raise the age to purchase them from 18 to 21. Ban high-capacity magazines. Strengthen background checks. Enact safe storage laws and red flag laws. Repeal gun manufacturers' immunity from liability," he said.&nbsp;

In Rajasthan`s Jaipur, prohibitory orders under section 144 have been imposed from 6 pm on Sunday till midnight of August 18 in the view of the possibility of disturbance to law and order due to the protests.&nbsp;

Germany, on Monday, downplayed expectation that NATO summit next week would take concrete decision on Finland and Sweden's membership, but it stressed that a deal was in sight.

"I think this is about expectations management and to place this in its historical context," said a high-ranking German government source.

"And given the historical dimension, it would not be a catastrophe if we need a few more weeks" to find a deal, the source added.

"We are confident, very confident that a solution can be found that takes into account both sides' interests."

The official was quoted by AFP.

NATO had originally expected Finland and Sweden's membership bids to sail through quickly at a time when the alliance is keen to show a united front vis-a-vis Russia.

But Turkey's last minute resistance has thrown them off course.

Ankara has accused Finland and Sweden of providing a safe haven for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed as a "terrorist" group by Turkey and its Western allies.

Ankara has also demanded that they lift their weapons freezes on Turkey.

These spacecrafts carrying out such a long journey is in itself a wonder and a thing to be proud of as a human. But the arduous and still continuing journey has begun to take its toll it seems. NASA has been gradually turning off equipments aboard both the spacecrafts.

Both of these probes are equipped with television cameras, infrared and ultraviolet sensors, magnetometers, plasma detectors, and cosmic-ray and charged-particle sensors. But 44 years on, the need to conserve energy in order to transmit data has assumed great priority.

NASA has hence been gradually switching of instruments one by one. It has been decades since NASA shut down cameras on the probes. And though it feels sad it appears that NASA would continue shutting down more instruments.

Though it is not certain, will there be a time when we would cut all contact with both spacecrafts? The Voyagers will continue their journey into nothingness of space even after that. They will bear testimony of human ingenuity as they would chart lonely path in the deep expanse.

NASA to gradually shut Voyager probes as they drift away

Witnesses in Ethiopia said Sunday that more than 200 people, mostly ethnic Amhara, have been killed in an attack in the country's Oromia region and are blaming a rebel group, which denies it.

It is one of the deadliest such attacks in recent memory as ethnic tensions continue in Africa's second most populous country.

"I have counted 230 bodies. I am afraid this is the deadliest attack against civilians we have seen in our lifetime,"&nbsp;Abdul-Seid Tahir, a resident of Gimbi county, told The Associated Press after barely escaping the attack on Saturday.

He said ethnic Amhara that settled in the area about 30 years ago in resettlement programs are now being 'killed like chickens.'

"I will reach Mysuru at around 5.30 pm and there too, key development works would either be inaugurated or their foundation stones would be laid. I will also be attending a programme at the Suttur Math. Tomorrow morning, the Yoga Day programme will also take place in Mysuru," added PM Modi.

In a step toward enhancing mobility and boosting connectivity in Bengaluru, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the Bengaluru Suburban rail project (BSRP), which will connect Bengaluru city with its suburbs and satellite townships. The project, which is to be built at a cost of over Rs 15,700 crore, envisages four corridors with a total route length of over 148 km.

On the occasion of the eighth International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Tuesday, Prime Minister will participate along with thousands of participants in a Mass Yoga Demonstration at Mysore Palace ground in Mysuru.

Integrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with celebrations of the eighth IDY, Mass Yoga demonstrations will also be organised at 75 iconic locations across the country under the leadership of 75 Union Ministers, along with the Yoga Demonstration by the Prime Minister at Mysore.

The Yoga demonstrations will also be held by various educational, social, political, cultural, religious, corporate and other civil society organisations and will be attended by crores of people across the country.

Prime Minister`s Yoga programme at Mysuru is also part of the novel programme `Guardian Yoga Ring` which is a collaborative exercise between 79 countries and United Nations organisations along with Indian Missions abroad to illustrate Yoga`s unifying power that surpasses National boundaries.

The testing of&nbsp;Macau's roughly 600,000 residents is expected to end on Tuesday as the Chinese-ruled former Portuguese colony adheres to China's "zero Covid" policy aiming to eradicate all outbreaks at just about any cost.

Most residents are asked to stay home, restaurants will be shut for dine-in and border restrictions have been tightened, meaning casino revenue is likely to be close to zero for at least a week and likely the coming weeks, analysts said.

MGM China, Wynn&nbsp;Macau, Galaxy Entertainment, Melco and SJM Holdings dropped between 4 per cent -7 per cent.

Macau's government relies on casinos for over 80 per cent&nbsp;of its income, with most of the population employed directly or indirectly by the casino industry.

The latest outbreak came suddenly and has been spreading rapidly with the source still unknown,&nbsp;Macau's chief executive Ho Iat Seng said in a statement on the government's website.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his party Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will continue protests till Pakistan government announces fresh elections. He termed current Pakistani dispensation to be an 'imported' government.

Khan on Sunday, asked his party workers to be prepared for his call, ARY News reported. The party volunteers have been holding nationwide protests against rising inflation in the country. Imran Khan said that it was national duty to raise voice against atrocities and injustice.

Pakistan is currently facing high inflation. Khan held current government helmed by Shehbaz Sharif responsible for it.

"The national security and sovereignty will be compromised in return for seeking any kind of relaxation from the United States. The present government that had organized an anti-inflation march during the PTI government has now massively hiked the diesel and petrol rates by Rs115 and Rs85 respectively," Khan said.

He rejected the allegations levelled by the current rulers that the PTI government`s policies and agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were the reasons for the skyrocketing inflation, the ARY News reported.

Khan said that the PTI government had controlled the fuel prices despite being pressurized by the IMF and reduced the petrol rate by Rs 10 per litre.

He said that the US had decided to topple the PTI government through a conspiracy while "Mir Jafer and Mir Sadiq of Pakistan" contributed to the alleged foreign conspiracy adding that he had warned neutrals of destructive outcomes for the national economy in case of the foreign conspiracy`s success, the ARY News reported.

Other prefectures have also started doing the same. Miyazaki has ended such a lunchtime regime earlier in the month. Schools in Chiba, near Tokyo, have allowed children to face each other during lunchtime and eat without speaking.

The measures and relaxation of restrictions have elicited reactions from parents

“My child is used to eating silently, and I’m sure she doesn’t feel lonely as she is with her family when she gets home,” one mother said. She was quoted by The Guardian.

“I’m concerned about the possibility of infection, so I hope they will continue to eat without talking.”

Some of the teachers have praised the move.

Silent eating has gone on for a long time now,” Kenji Tanaka, a primary school principal, told the Mainichi Shimbun. “I hope happy school lunchtimes will return soon.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday (June 17) said that Russia had 'nothing against' Ukraine joining the European Union (EU). His words came on the same day European Commission recommended granting Ukraine a candidate status in the EU. Putin was speaking at Russia's annual economic showcase, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"We have nothing against it. It's their sovereign decision to join economic unions or not... It's their business, the business of the Ukrainian people," said Putin.

Russia is currently invading Ukraine. Putin has in past expressed Russia's fierce opposition to Ukraine joining North Atlantic Treaty Organisation&nbsp;(NATO). Such a scenario has been deemed a 'security threat' by Moscow.

But "as far as their economic integration is concerned, it is their choice", Putin said.

"The EU is not a military alliance, unlike NATO," he said.

The Russian president, however, said he believed that if Ukraine went ahead with joining the EU it would "turn into a semi-colony" of Western countries.

During his speech, Putin defended Russia by saying global economic problems were not caused by the Russian invasion.

"What is happening is not the result of recent months, much less the result of a special military operation that Russia is conducting in the Donbas," Putin said referring to the predominantly Russia-speaking region of Eastern Ukraine.&nbsp;

"The rising prices, inflation, the problem with foods, prices for fuel.. are the result of systematic mistakes in the economic policy of the current US administration and European bureaucracy," Putin said in televised remarks at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. &nbsp;

Gas prices were also on the rise Friday, exacerbated by the decision by Russian energy giant Gazprom to slash deliveries to Europe, citing repair works.&nbsp;

Putin said that high energy prices "have been observed since the third quarter (of last year), long before the start of our operation in Donbas", adding that the price hikes were also the result of Europe's "failed energy policy".&nbsp;
