A popular messaging app that calls itself secure with end-to-end encryption has suffered a security lapse resulting into a huge cache of users’ messages being posted online, said a report. TechCrunch says that the messaging app is widely used in Asia and across the world with 20 million global users.

Even JusTalk Kids shows 1 million android downloads on Google Play. JusTalk says that both apps are end-to-end encrypted, which means that only the people in the conversation can read the messages. JusTalk claims on its website that “only you and the person you communicate with can see, read or listen to them: Even the JusTalk team won’t access your data!”

But the lapse has raised questions on the security of these apps.

The leaked data includes millions of JusTalk user messages, along with the precise date and time they were sent and the phone numbers of both the sender and the recipient. It also contained records of calls that were placed using the app.

The report says that security researcher Anurag Sen found the data this week and asked TechCrunch for help to report it to the company.

JusTalk was launched by Juphoon, a China-based cloud company in 2016. The app is now owned by Ninbo Jus. As per records on Juphoon’s website, both companies appear to share same office address.

Because each message recorded in the data contained every phone number in the same chat, it was possible to follow entire conversations, including children using the JusTalk Kids app to chat with their parents.

Air pollution is certainly not a good thing. Now, a finding by a UK government committee says that air pollution may raise the risk of Dementia, said The Guardian. The Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants advises British government on matters related to air pollution.

The 291-page report says that air pollution may raise the risk of 'cognitive decline' and of 'developing dementia' in older people.

As per experts, this may be due to air pollutants entering in body's circulatory system. This in turn may affect blood flow to the brain.

The authors said: "The epidemiological evidence reviewed fairly consistently reports associations between chronic exposure to air pollution and reduced global cognition and impairment in visuospatial abilities as well as cognitive decline and increased risk of dementia.

"Results are heterogeneous as regards to other cognitive domains such as executive function, attention, memory, language and mild cognitive impairment. The identified neuroimaging studies consistently report associations between exposure to air pollution and white matter atrophy."

As to the exact pollutant having such effect in humans, the reports says that various studies have various opinions.

According to numbers available with UK's National Health Service (NHS), about 850,000 people in the UK suffer with dementia.

A strike by the ground staff of Germany's national carrier Lufthansa hit operations of the airline on Wednesday (July 27). The strike led to cancellation of more than 1000 flights and added to travel woes of thousands of passengers. A powerful labour union Verdi has called for the strike. The strike is due to run until 6 am (0400 GMT) on Thursday.

The strike has been called to demand greater salary hike than what Lufthansa has offered.

The strike has caused Lufthansa to cancel nearly all flights at Frankfurt and Munich, the airline's domestic hubs.

Reuters quoted a passenger who was om his way from Africa to Paris and was stranded in Frankfurt.

"They say I will be rebooked tomorrow, but nobody was here when we arrived in order to say what we have to do, where we have to go, where we will sleep," said Diego Lambiase, the passenger.

Verdi last month demanded a pay rise of 9.5 per cent. This comes to 350 euros (USD 368) for around 20,000 workers who say inflation has hit them hard.

Lufthansa had offered an increase of 150 euros per month for the rest of this year and another 100 euros from the start of 2023, plus a 2% increase from mid-2023 dependent on the company's financial results

Actual gameplay was tracked rather than just a survey of experience of gamers. Data shared by seven game publishers was used in the study. Gameplay habits of 40,000 gamers were tracked with their consent.

Andy Przybylski, one of the researchers, said that the large scale of the study provided a strong evidence that gaming did not have any effect on wellbeing of gamers.

“With 40,000 observations across six weeks, we really gave increases and decreases in video game play a fair chance to predict emotional states in life satisfaction, and we didn’t find evidence for that – we found evidence that that’s not true in a practically significant way,” said Przybylski who was quoted by The Guardian.

Players were asked whether they were playing for healthy reasons, such as socialising with friends and having fun or negative ones such as feeling of compulsion to satisfy goals in the game. It was found that even those who wanted to play due to negative reasons tended to report an overall satisfaction.

Gaming doesn't have effect on wellbeing, says Oxford University study

A prominent Jewish community organisation on Tuesday (July 26) voiced alarm and concern over Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's remarks against creating " peoples of mixes race". The 59-year-old ultra-conservative prime minister said this during a speech in Romania. Orban was speaking in Romania's Transylvania region, which has a large Hungarian community. During his speech, he criticised mixing with 'non-Europeans".

International Auschwitz Committee, which counts several Holocaust survivors as its members, said Orban's speech was "stupid and dangerous". The committee further called on the EU to continue to distance itself from "Orban's racist undertones and to make it clear to the world that Mr. Orban has no future in Europe."

Christoph Heubner, vice-president of the organisation, said that Orban's speech reminded Holocaust survivors "of the dark times of their own exclusion and persecution". He was quoted by AFP.

Heubner called specifically on Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to make a stand when he hosts Orban on an official visit to Vienna on Thursday.

"We do not want to become peoples of mixed-race," Orban said on Saturday.

Orban is known for his anti-migrant policy. In past, he has made similar remarks.

Hungarian government appeared to be in damage control mode as Zoltan Kovacs, the governemnt spokesperson, said that Orban's speech was 'misinterpreted' by those who "clearly don't understand the difference between the mixing of different ethnic groups that all originate in the Judeo-Christian cultural sphere, and the mixing of peoples from different civilisations"

Orban also appeared to make allusion to Nazi gas chambers during speech connecting it to European Union's plan to reduce European gas demand by 15 per cent.

"I do not see how it will be enforced -– although, as I understand it, the past shows us German know-how on that," he said.

Jewish community in Hungary has also criticised Orban's speech.

"There is only one race on this Planet: the Homo Sapiens Sapiens," chief rabbi Robert Frolich wrote on Facebook.

Zsuzsa Hegedus, Orban's advisor has handed in her resignation over what she termed was his "shameful position". She called the speech "a pure Nazi text," according to news outlet HVG.

In response, Orban stressed "his government's policy of zero tolerance when it comes to anti-Semitism and racism", according to a letter that was made public.

In a summit held with vaccine makers and scientists on Tuesday (July 26), the White House pushed for 'next generation' of Covid vaccines that would offer broder and more durable protection against the virus.

"The goal of that is not only to protect against disease, but to protect against acquisition, and by acquisition, transmission," he said of the intranasal vaccine.

It may be possible to make a pan-coronavirus vaccine by taking pieces of different coronavirus variants. This is called a 'mosaic' approach.

Nasal vaccines are being tested in mice, where they have shown promise, while vaccine developers Pfizer and BioNTech have announced they will work towards trials for universal coronavirus vaccines.

In a commentary for Science magazine, scientists Eric Topol and Akiko Iwasaki argued that a new funding program for next-generation vaccines was needed, along the lines of Operation Warp Speed, which funneled $10 billion into vaccine development early in the pandemic.

"The objective of breaking the chain of transmission at the individual and population level will put us in a far better position to achieve containment of the virus, no less reducing the toll of sickness and long Covid," they said.

If it indeed takes place, Pelosi's visit would be the first to Taiwan by a sitting US House speaker since 1997. China has already said that it was "getting ready" for Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.

"We are firmly opposed to Speaker Pelosi's visit to Taiwan," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.

"If the US pushes ahead and challenges China's bottom line... the US side will bear all the consequences," he added.

Pelosi herself has not yet confirmed her plans to visit Taiwan.

China warns US, says latter will 'bear all consequences' over Pelosi's Taiwan visit

Russia Today, a media outlet controlled by the Russian state on Wednesday (July 27) lost court fight against ban imposed by the European Union (EU). The ban was imposed in the month of March over alleged disinformation. The court verdict has led to Kremlin warning of retaliation against Western media.

Europe's second-highest court has upheld the decision to impose the ban.

"The Grand Chamber of the General Court dismisses RT France's application for annulment of acts of the Council, adopted following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, temporarily prohibiting that organisation from broadcasting content," the Luxembourg-based General Court said.

Brussels had accused Russia Today of systematic disinformation over Russian invasion of Europe.

Judges of the General Court dismissed Russia Today's argument that ban curtailed its freedom of expression.

"The limitations on RT France's freedom of expression which the restrictive measures at issue are liable to have are proportionate, inasmuch as they are appropriate and necessary to the aims pursued," judges said in their ruling.

"The Court also finds that those measures do not disproportionately infringe the essential content of RT France's freedom to conduct a business since they are temporary and reversible," they said.

The Kremlin termed the court's decision as "extremely negative". It said that Moscow would take similar measures against Western media.

Dmmitry Pescov, Kremlin spokespersom said Russia Today was unable to work in Europe. But said that he hoped loopholes can be found in the judgment to resume broadcasting.

RT France said it would appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union, Europe's highest.

"The Court's confirmation of this general ban with an uncertain term unfortunately shows that the judicial power of the European Union cannot or does not want to oppose political power," Xenia Fedorova, president of RT France, said in a statement.

The EU sanction applies to RT's English unit and operations in Britain, Germany, France and Spain.

After his triumph, a US-based company, Infolinks, sent him an offer letter. Vedant&nbsp;wrote a 2066-line code to create a website. Videos can be uploaded and viewed on animeeditor.com, the website Vedant created. Users can also blog and chat. One can also create chat bots.

Vedant, who beat a thousand coders across the world is not even 15 years old.

Vedant's father is an electrical engineer while his mother is a Computer Science professor. Like every other teen, Vedant likes to use smartphones, laptops and other digital devices.

Worried that he was too engrossed in playing video games, his mother thought of teaching him coding. However, after initial training from his mother, it was his effort that sharpened his coding skills.

Vedant searched online for coding courses and completed 24 of them.&nbsp;

One day, when he was browsing Instagram, he stumbled upon the coding competition and decided to enter the fray. There were more than a thousand participants from across the world.&nbsp;

The family was stunned when Infolinks sent an offer letter via e-mail. They even thought that it was a fake offer. But when Vedant's teacher did some verification, it turned out that the offer was indeed genuine.

"We were elated when he got the offer. He was selected from among a thousand developers. This is big. We are proud of him," said Ashwini Devkate, Vedant's mother.

Vedant can not take up the job offer as he is still a minor, but the company, surely surprised by the teenager's precocious talent has now said that a job will be waiting for him whenever he completes his education.

Teenager gets USD 40k job offer after winning competition, but he won't join

An "extremely radicalised" youth from Assam has been arrested here by the Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru and police say an investigation was on to find out if he has links with any terrorist outfit.

Akhtar Hussain Lashkar, who was working as a food delivery executive, was picked up on Sunday night from a rented flat on the third floor of an apartment in Tilaknagar where he was living with some other people belonging to the same profession.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said on Monday the police have also detained his "accomplices" for questioning.

Police sources said Lashkar has been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code, including one for waging a war against the Government of India.

"He's an extremely radicalised youth. We worked out together with various agencies. He has been arrested and a case has been registered against him. The investigation and interrogation is on to unearth whether (he had links) with any of the organisations," Bengaluru Police Commissioner C H Pratap Reddy told reporters.

"He was working as a delivery boy. Other details will come out after the investigation," he said, adding, police were working with various agencies and got inputs about his activities.

"Details cannot be shared but the fact (is) that an FIR has been registered and the person has been arrested. There is enough evidence collected regarding the radicalised youth in Bengaluru,"&nbsp;he added.

CCB sources further said Lashkar had fled north India and was holed up in the city.

After his arrest, the CCB produced him before a special court, which remanded him to 10 days' police custody.

Sources said an accomplice of his has also been arrested, though the police did not confirm it.

Jnanendra lauded the police for their action. The minister recalled that the Bengaluru police had recently arrested a terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir at Okalipuram in the city.
